I would like to see you repair the scissors spring. Thousands of these pop up on EBay a very low cost because of the broken springs. That is why Leatherman discontinued PS4. They could not warranty the tool because of the faulty scissor springs.
Nice job! It looks great. I've always wanted a Leatherman Wave/Charge with a SAK awl on it. That's the one tool that model needs to be the nearly perfect outdoorsman's multi-tool.
@@FittoSurvive I don't know. I've never had a Leatherman apart. I always wonder what would be the part to ditch in order to make space for the awl, the micro-bit driver or the medium screwdriver. The screwdriver would probably be the best choice. Since there is alrady a full-size bit-driver onboard it has less utility than the micro-bit driver.
Does using a conical file to widen the holes cause any problems, like side-to-side play in the tool or making it point off-center when deployed? It must change the profile of the hole.

The frame and spring system on the Squirt is significantly different from a SAK, so I do not think thts you could. I wanted to fit scissors from a 58mm SAK into the Squirt but it was way too small to even try. The pivot barrels on the squirt are almost larger than the pivot area available on the 58mm tools.
I did one of these a few years ago. Of course without the acid washed tools, which look awesome. Had to drill out the holes a little bit if I remember right with all the 3D printed scales from shapeways to make it work. Think yours went together quite a bit easier than mine.

Ive always wanted to see one of these taken apart. Ive always wanted to do a half mod on one of these. No pliers but all the tools in one half to minimize it. Ive seen it done with a micra but cant find it done to squirts.

Have you done anything with the Gerber Dime? Say what you will about Gerber, but the Dime is a comparable tool….tweezers…good add. Might be something there.

Would you ever mask off the entire back part of the tools when etching, for smooth operation when deploying them? I think it could help with snap if the part of the tool interfacing with the back springs remained polished.

The acid etching does not damage the finish. But it can be scuffed.

The philips and scissors are definitely too small. I looked into that. But the Nitecore scalpel should work on the Squirt.

I looked in to that. I couldn't find a way to do it back then, but it's been a while. Maybe I should take another look at it.

The brass scales are a bit thicker than the original ones. So, I would have to say that it probably would not fit.

@@dlajb It would have to be a smaller scalpel holder. The Nitecore NTK05 should fit. The Havalon scalpels are too large.

I don't mask it off. Instead, I use nail polish. You can see this on the pivoting section of the tools before I acid etch them.
