Great review, John. The Rambler is great. I use a discontinued model called the Vagabond which adds 2 extra tools to the Rambler. If I was going to buy something currently available, I'd go Rambler or Midnite Manager (adds pen and flashlight to Rambler). Or a Jetsetter for travel. I believe Leatherman discontinued the Style and Squirt because the warranty was eating them alive on those scissor springs that kept breaking. That's enough for me to stay away. I like the MiniSailor Lite for travel. One Nextool you don't show is the Mini Flagship. It's awesome. Probably the best pliers based multitool on the market that's smaller than the PowerPint. The PowerPint is great. I added a two 10x5x2mm magnets at the end to keep it closed. It also keeps the bits locked in. The magnets don't move when I open and close the tool. One other tool of a similar size and weight to the SOG you might consider is the Roxon KS2 Elite (incredible scissors, saw, D2 blade, in line awl, in line Phillips, all locking tools, one handed tools, 4mm bit kit). It complements the PowerPint well (pliers, file, bit driver). Finally, don't sleep on the LeverGear Edge XT pry bar. It has a retractable exacto blade, as well as a magnetic bit holder, a couple of built in screwdrivers, a box tape ripper notch, and wire stripper. Very small and light - easy to carry on a keychain. Question: How do the scissors on the E1 compare to the MiniSailor Scissors - which do you like better?
Thanks for the comment and great suggestions. I did try the Roxon KS2E to compare with the Nextool E1. Ended up returning the Roxon just due to weight. But I really liked it, otherwise. The E1 scissors are the same as the Mini Sailor Scissor, as far as I can tell. Thanks for the suggestion of the LeverGear Edge XT - looks pretty cool!
The SOG Powerpint also has the crimper tool and has a lock. The black 'plastic' parts on the inside in closed position are to release the lock but of course you can also open another tool. I would call it a mid size tool and with the 84mm size it's the same size as my SAK Recruit so it still fits in the pocket easily. In town I usually EDC the Gerber Dime but out of curiousity just ordered the Nextool Mini Sailor.
@@JohnScottB I have both the one with pliers and the one with scissors now since they arrived last week. I must say I'm very impressed. And for that price they make excellent mini multi pliers. Great for EDC. I think even better than the Dime although that's still great too. I also bought the Roxon M3 that comes with small bits and a bit holder. But these mini multitools I will EDC but not to replace a full size multitool. The SOG Powerpint I will because it has the stronger grip and has the normal size bit holder in the handle itself.
@@StevanOutdoor nice, yeah I'm super impressed with everything from Nextool that I've tried. Seems like they have great QC because the praise is pretty universal. How do you like that Roxon? I looked at it but I didn't like that you have to open the handle for access to the other tools.
@@JohnScottB I must agree. I bought two of their mini knives as well with the small blade, nail file/flat head screwdriver and the scissors and find them as good as Victorinox but a lot cheaper than the alox SAK's of it. So I added them to my kits also. I have nothing bad to say about Nextool so far although I would have liked to have the key chain ring on the Mini Sailor scissor one. I personally actually like the tools on the inside because they don't snag in your pocket and don't rub holes. The scissors are even stronger and better on the Roxon compared to the Mini Sailor. On the other hand the Mini Sailor scissors version still has great scissors and has a small plier and the plier version has a small scissor. But the Roxon has the bitset I carry in my bag (tool pouch) just in case and they are good for small tasks. I carry them in my pocket organizer and can switch between them depending on where I'm going and what I'm doing.
Great video! I've gone through a lot of tiny tools, but I always come back to the Classic SD. It's a simple and amazing tool. Great video, thank you for the content!
Interesting point, the Rambler's knife comes out on the opposite end from the key ring (as opposedto the classic), making it easier to use. Especially if it's hanging on your keys. Plus, you get the combo tool.
Great video. The Vic Rambler is the best pocket tool for every children’s dad. The SOG Powerpint would be the perfect urban EDC if they added a flathead screwdriver on it. The Nextool E1 looks impressive, just purchased one right after watching this video. Also check out the Leatherman Free T4, a bit bulky but has very practical tools.(the scissors can’t pass the paracord test though
Thanks for the comment! Let me know what you think of the E1. I've got the Leatherman Arc for my full size tool. I love the one handedness of the free series.
I have been on a similar journey lost a leatherman micra loved the dime it is missing somewhere in my house… like the nextool mini flagship because of the scissors also just ordered the Roxon M2 because of the bit driver, package opener and scissors
The Roxon M2 seems cool. Similar to the Nextool Mini Flagship in terms of feature set. I wasn't a huge fan of the Roxon bit set when I tried it with their KS2 Elite - but let us know what you think!
the sog power pint is great i edc it every day, the plires, kives, & bit driver are amazing out of the package all of the others needed modding & even then the scissors need to aren't great.
are you left handed? at 5:10 I saw that the used Leatherman Style CS scissors were giving you trouble during the demonstration. I'm left handed and have found that using dull right-handed scissors can be improved by compensating in order to ensure the blades are slightly pushing into each other. hope that makes sense. the nextools are looking pretty nice, I want all of them! stoked they make a TSA safe tool, been underwhelmed with most options since the leatherman TSA tools were discontinued.
Pushing the powerpint just a bit you can get a Gerber Octane from china distributors. At 5 oz it is very thin, easy access blade, full Philips, and great pliers with a cool ass opening. fits just as well in the 5th pocket too.
I have 3 of them, 1 black and 2 silver and no quality issues whatsoever. I did order them at different times and the last one even directly from China. The question remains if I was lucky or you had bad luck, maybe a bad batch.
Rambler is my favorite 58mm. I like it better than my Style CS. I thought the scissors on the CS would be way better. I might try a Micra the form factor don’t bother me as my favorite leatherman is a Rebar anyways. I just don’t have any confidence in leatherman scissors.
I want to like the Powerpint, but it has no built in flathead screwdriver without modification and all the tools besides the pliers are pretty bad. Love that E1 though! I hadn't seen it before. No pliers but maybe a great pairing with mini Knipex pliers! Is it discontinued though? Not available through your link.
Yeah no flathead is a bizarre omission. The E1 just came out in the last year so i assume it's just out of stock. I'll keep an eye and update the link if I see it back in stock.
That's true. For me they could have replaced the box opener with a strong flathead. On the other hand the way they made the bit adaptor is genius. I like the double sided file/saw and that's rare to find on small/mid size multi tool.
#1. Good video. #2. You should probably look into modifying your tools. #2.1. The dime... I had one of the first ones. It was impossible to open without another tool. I took it apart and took a small file to the tools I was having issues with. Just work on the opening parts, make sure you don't work on the parts that need to be tight when open. AND here is the warning I didn't get, go slow it doesn't need much. #2.2. The next tools, can they be taken apart and swap things around? i.e. Can I remove the knife and put something else in place.
Thanks for the comment, you're right that I haven't gotten into modifying tools yet but that sounds like fun (and a slippery slope!). Not sure if the Nextools are intended to be swapped around. I tried to remove the belt clip from the E1 but you'd need a very specific right angle torx head wrench that is like proprietary to their factory. The mini sailors are like doable.
Which Roxon do you like? I tried the Ks2 Elite and I really liked it. It's similar to the Nextool E1 but better quality tools all around, but I didn't like the weight of it. A little too heavy for pocket carry for me.
Many years ago I bought the Leatherman Crunch. Basically a vice grip multi tool. It'll do many things the needle nose multi tools can't.
Lucky you! Those are collector's items these days!
yes sir really wish I'd picked 1 of those up
The Crunch is hands-down the best multitool ever. I use one as a daily carry on the farm. I really wish they would make a comeback.
The crunch is awesome but you kinda need to carry a regular multi tool and the crunch to have a decent set of tools on your person.

I really wanted to like the powerpint but both of my examples were poorly finished and misaligned.
That's a bummer that they've got QC issues it sounds like.

SAK toothpick can be used to stop a bomb like in the movie Executive Decision.
SOG powerpint "you can use the file as a saw" WHAT?! I am going do disagree with you on that

No, it's not removable. At the weight of it, I feel like it needs a clip anyway. 👍

It would help your intended target of 10k if you call things as they are, e.g., "the Leatherman Micra is a piece of design and handling rubbish".
