  • In this Blender Compositing VFX Tutorial, We will first create a clean plate using our video clip.
    Then with a little bit of masking and some compositing we can easily remove the unwanted traffic in our shots.
    You can then add some compositing with Color Grading and even some camera shake to finish the shot.
    Hopefully this Blender Compositing VFX Tutorial helped! and as always thanks for watching!..

      Is it better? I couldn't really comment since I only have used gimp and PDN but I know some people think of Gimp as a poor substitute to PS.. Again I don't have PS so I can't compare them but Gimp does everything I need so don't get me wrong.. I like Gimp... :)

    • @jimsomers8915

      linux > open source > better..... and even if it's not REALLY better you can crack out your coding books and make it better yourself so.... better.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому

      I never really thought about "improving" Gimp or any program for that matter.. That is to say, coding isn't my thing but I do like the Idea of being able to write a bit of code and improving the program. Anything that can be modified and made better (In the eyes of the user. Since we all have different Ideas on whats better) is always a good thing. Again, Gimp has never let me down but others may need Gimp for things that I wouldn't so a little modification would be cool.

    I had an idea about how to do this, and I need to do it on a fairly grand scale for a project idea I have. I may need to mask not only vehicles or people out of shots, but also mask in wind moving around trees and stuff, but I have a pretty good idea about how to do that all now.

    I'm curious, if the back plate was just a still image, why did the final composited clip at the end show some slight camera movement (noticeable when watching the road lines carefully)?

    • @DarkfallBlender

    To produce the clean plate, I guess a median filter applied to the selected images would have worked as well and save a little work at that step (though the main work remains with rotoskoping in the video)

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      A median filter in blender?..

    • @HagenvonEitzen
      @HagenvonEitzen 6 років тому +1

      I didn't mean to say that step could be done in blender. But in certainly can in Photoshop, and with correct addons also in GIMP, or even as ImageMagick one-liner. In the end, the effort is probably not *much* different - again, the main work is in the tedious rotoskoping ...

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому +1

    Is it possible to do it the same way when the camera is moving? For example a video at the beach turning around and you don't want to see the other people.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      Hey Jan, It is possible to do what you want but it would be quite different from this tutorial. You would need to first track your footage then create a clean plate (an image with just the beach no people) then comp it together. It will help if you know the focal length you shoot the footage at, along with other info about your camera (for the tracking). You could try and track your footage and then use this method in the tutorial here but you could get problems with people moving into your "clean area" so I think the clean plate idea would be easier. (one thing I don't like about clean plates is that they are a single image, so if your lighting changes in your footage, the clean plate won't change..)

    Help please. i`m following step by step and have a problem at 1:43 of this tutorial. when I select the loaded movie clip it has unappropriate scaling (i don`t see the whole scene, just a half approx.). so when i click render so the rendered image has the same unappropriate scale. i think this will not allow to finish tutorial correctly. what should i check?

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому

      Hey Evgeny, If you look at your render panel (on the right) you can see your resolution settings, make sure the resolution is the same as the movie clip you are working with. Also, right under that there is a Percentage Scale.. By default it is set to 50%.. Change that to 100% and your masks and scaling will be fixed..

    Hey, can you help with an edit to address overlapping objects? like a person in from of an object, Retain the person but remove the background conditioned to - When both the objects tend to move. Appreciate in advance.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      Sounds like you need to Rotoscope. In the last live stream we rotoscoped a hand that was moving in front of a face.. You would need to create and animate a mask and then use it to occlude or remove the object you don't want.. But note, if the thing you want to remove (lets call it Obj. A) if it goes in front of say the object you wish to keep (Obj. B.) When you mask or rotoscope out Object A and it is directly in front of the object you wish to keep then you might have some trouble.. You may need to work around that and depending on the shot you are working on it could vary..

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      It would be similar, You would have to make a clean plate, track your footage and maybe even lose some quality (Since you would need to scale the whole shot up)..

    • @LuizFelipe-nh6ow
      @LuizFelipe-nh6ow 6 років тому +1

      When you mention "clean plate", i gonna need to make frame by frame the clone process? I found it a little confusing :p

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      It's a complex task to do when the footage isn't on a tripod.. but like we did in this video we only use the part we want to see it would be the same in your project. In the start of the start of the video we create a clean plate (an image that has no cars in the shot) then with a mask we "Show" the clean plate in certain areas.. but when the footage is moving you would have more work to do.. You could use a similar technique where you take areas of the original video and move them to remove a person, now I'm not sure if this would help you but you might want to check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/lR89kPyPghg/v-deo.html

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому

      Hey thanks for the comment!.. I mean it depends on the shot and what you want to achieve but I would assume it would be the same as this. Just create a clean plate of your shot, then mask around the person or things you wish to keep and then mix the video with the clean plate using the mask as a factor.. If your camera is moving you may be in for more work.

    • @brianwilson2904

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому +1

      To create a clean plate, you need to first save out a still image then (in photo editing software) clone the background and where ever you see people. You want it to look empty.. Then for the mask I would create a mask to follow the people and then animate the factor to make them disappear as and when you require.. again this will be a lot harder if the camera is moving!..
