  • In this Blender Compositing VFX Tutorial, we will be revisiting a former tutorial, How to remove people / objects from video.
    Be sure to check out our latest Add-on, The Darkfall VFX Addon.. It's a free add=-n that contains 8 different effects and the Clone.. Check out the blog page here: bit.ly/2kB5XYt
    In this example video we have a few more things we need to remove and I think we did a pretty good job. Of course if you spend more time on your project you can make it look even better. The video quality was not the best and then with Compression it looks even worse, so be sure to use high quality Background Videos when you are working on your own projects.
    Since we have a few people we want to remove from our video, we will be creating "Super Nodes" or Mega/Uber Nodes to help speed up our workflow. Once we have created a new Node Group (Which I decided to call it the Patch Node..) we can bring that node into future projects and save even more time.
    I hope this technique helps you in your future projects! if you found this Blender compositing Tutorial helpful be sure to hit that subscribe button for more..
    As always, thanks for watching!.

      😅 Anyone working on a zero budget or even minimal budget would disagree.. To be fair It is quite a lot of steps so I have been developing a free blender Addon Called the VFX nodes.. With the click of a button the Addon will do most of the work for you. The Nodes will be added as a single Node in your compositor.. For this Effect you can use the Patch Node. You can check out the Addon here: darkfallblender.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_8.html or check out some of the video on my channel..

    Again a pretty good job :) I just wondered about why you are using "mixnodes" for composing your layers together. It's allright to do so and it works just fine, but maybe you have there a special reason why using mixnodes instead of alphaovers? I tried this "grouping" of node-setups too, but for me it was always to tedious to control this setup, with renaming and stuff (ofcourse it would safe time later in next projects).. i like to group this kind of node-setups with "ctrl+j" .. so i got it visuel seperated from my full-nodetree too, but i can hold it inside the overview for everything.
    Nice Video, i like it, there is so much wich could be added for this shot.. i am thinking about of doing it with your permission.. maybe some rebuilding of this rocks to achive more "depth" for the finalrender.. adding some animated cloudtextures imitating that sparkling foam above the waterlevel to clean this rebuild up .. i know it just was a tutorial for this removing effect .. but iam always full of ideas if i see projects like this :)
    thanks for sharing and blend on :)

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому

      Hey Stoerfish, thanks for the comment buddy!. Yeah I have no preference when it comes to simple mixing like this. I generally use Mix nodes unless I NEED an alpha over. Since the effect works either way I encourage you to use what ever you feel comfortable with.. Ctrl + J , i believe is creating a frame, and pretty useful for tiding messy nodes up but I think the Node Group or Super Node is much cleaner and easily appended into new files. I like hoe we can do the job once then bring in the nodes we need in the future..
      As for the Background Video, I don't own it and the link is in the description sooo go for it.. I always get Ideas when looking at videos like this and yeah this tutorial was about how you can clean up videos that would have been unusable otherwise.. I think I will use this video sometime in the future and now it's "clean" I will have less work to do ;)
      Anyway good luck with your project and again, cheers for the comment!

    As far as I know, hitting Ctrl-G creates a Node Group so I think that is what they should be referred to as. Also, you could save yourself some time by putting the Blur node into the group as well and give inputs called Mask Blur X and Mask Blur Y (or just a single Mask Blur going to a Value node to feed into both the X and Y values of the blur node). With this particular video, you could have saved yourself even more time by simply zooming into the upper left part of the video which would have cropped out the people at the right and bottom.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому +1

      Hey Jeffrey, Yeah it makes a node group, though if you have multiple node groups (that do different things) it would be best to call it something you can easily identify.. As for the nicknames, (Super nodes, uber nodes ect). I don't really mind what people call it.. As for the Blur node, I was going to add them to the group but I wasn't sure how to be able to control the Blur amount since there is no socket. Nor can I find a way to add a socket to the Values so if you know how, I would appreciate the knowledge..
      Now for the "Cropping", Yes it would have saved time but that would have defeated the purpose, not to mention the loss of video quality. The fact is, even if the person is in the middle of the screen, this can sometimes be an effective way to salvage footage that would have been scrapped otherwise..
      anway, thanks for your comment

    • @JeffreyBlakeney
      @JeffreyBlakeney 5 років тому +1

      @@DarkfallBlender I didn't notice that there were no input connections for the X and Y values on the blur node. It seems there are a lot of nodes like that and what with drivers not working well with nodes, that seems kind of problematic. Haven't been playing with 2.8 yet, though, so don't know if it has improved there.
      However, after a bit of head scratching and reading, it seems that if you give the size input a number the X and Y values in the blur node become multipliers. Set them both to 1 and make the size 30 and you get an X and Y blur size of 30. Because size is an input, it can be put on your node group's inputs as well.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому

      It would have been nice to be able to simply add a Socket to the Node but your work around is pretty good! . I will certainly incorporate it into this "Patch node" and any others that need it..
      Thanks for sharing!..

    Great tutorial, very good indeed. Just one thing, at 9:05 you refer to an add-on but I can't make out exactly what you call it, and I wouldn't know where to get it. I think you said Node Render add-on?

    • @DarkfallBlender

      Hey Stuart. glad you like it.. The Add-on I mention is the Node Wrangler add-on which is built in to blender.. Just go to Edit > preferences > add on section and search for node wrangler. You can then click the check box to activate it.. I would also note that this removal effect has been simplified even more by using the Darkfall VFX nodes addon. It has a bunch of pre built nodes like this removal effect saving a whole bunch of time.. If you want you can check it out here: darkfallblender.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_8.html
      You just need to download the script and then again in the addon section (in the user preferences) you can click install from file and select the VFX node addon.. up to you 👍

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  Рік тому

      Hey Dark GT, thanks I am glad you enjoyed it! So yeah you could easily achieve the desired effect using masks. The technical term would be rotoscoping and though I do not specifically have a video on rotoscoping we actually have done it many times in many videos (so if you followed some of my other videos you may already have done it!).
      For example in the Hoverbike VFX shot : ua-cam.com/video/92MPQwiEjjI/v-deo.html
      we are using masks to take a section of the road and move it over to where the wheel should be.. Making it look like its flying.. you could use the same process to take an object in the shot (or you can use a different video/ image) and position it behind your actor.. then you can create a mask around your actor and composite them over the top of your image

    Is it necessary to increase the samples from the default. And if we use the EEVEE render engine do we lose quality on our movie clip?

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому +1

      Like in 2.79, when we render from the compositor, using movie clips (not using a render layer) we don't need to worry about the samples. Samples would only be a problem if you are using a Render layer node or Rendering from viewport... As for Eevee vs Cycles, again we are not using the Render Layer so there is no difference in speed or quality when it comes to this technique..

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  4 роки тому

      It's nothing to do with the version of blender, it has more to do with the footage?... Is the camera moving? is it on a tripod? is the necklace occluded at any point in the video?.. These are just some things that will effect your process of removing an object.. In this video you can see that I take a small section of our video clip and paste it right on top of the area i wanted to remove..I suggest trying to do it this way and then see what problems may occur?...
