    When shooting in locations you can not control, there is always the risk of having unwanted people or objects in your shot.
    For example, we want a nice shot of the lighthouse and the water behind but there is a man in the way.
    With a few Masks and some Nodes we can easily remove the problem and get the shot we want.
    I hope this Blender Compositing VFX Tutorial helps and as always Thanks for watching!.

      The Masks in blender are pretty good.. at first they may be a bit of a pain to get used to, but after a while they become really easy to use.. Not to mention useful also..
      I have used the masking tool so many times in various projects, but this example I think shows how useful it can be. Not only removing a person from a video but the background is also moving.. Of course this wont work for every video but I think you get the Idea..
      I'm glad you will find a use for this and thanks for the comment!..

      @DarkfallBlender  5 років тому

      I did a video on how to remove Tracking markers on a Face, I think its the same steps pretty much, just like you said its on a different scale.. You would track the markers, then create the small masks and then parent them to the trackers (since its moving) and composite the same way in this video..
      Anyway good luck with your project!..

    Hi,
    Not sure if this is the right video to ask this question. I watched some of yours, blender frenzy and Ryan King and they make sense.
    My skill level is I guess about middle beginner.
    My wife is making some tutorial videos ( Writing Chinese ) , she has some marks on her face she is sensitive about. To reduce them the best I have come up with is a mask on each cheek with points on either side of the eye, below center eye and jaw /ear. I can get tracks on the jaw / ear and eye brow.
    Making the mask follow the tracks is fine, using parent.
    But I then have to go through frame by frame as moves her head and move the nodes of the mask to keep the shape and exact position.
    Is there a way to automate the mask reshaping as she moves?
    I can't get any more tracks?
    The best I thought of was a makeup pencil to make black dots when each point of the mask should be and parent each mask point to its own track.
    Is that a sensible way of doing this?
    Sorry for asking a dumb question, Im a southerner and blonde.... remembering to breathe in and out again is taxing.
    Thank You
    Jessica

    Is the process the same for when the camera is moving? I'm assuming you just animate your masks?

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому +11

      Yeah if the camera is moving you can just animate the mask. If your object or person (or what ever you are trying to remove) is still, you could just track the object then parent the mask to the track. That way the mask will move along with the object saving you some time..

    When i want to remove a object on the street or other objects and the camera is moving backward or other camera movements, then the place where i masked the object out with the translate Node then i get a street ground in the mask place with out the object but when the camera is moving this street ground will look different because this same street ground with out the object is not any more at the same position do you have any idea who i can still have the same street ground from the beginning that i make with the translate Node also when the camera is moving that i also have the same streeet ground?

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  6 років тому +1

      Hey ZGames.. It all depends on how the camera is moving would make me approach it differently but say for example your camera is moving backwards as you mentioned. You could add a couple of tracking markers and use the data to move your Translate nodes so your corrected image (in the mask place) should be the one you need.
      I did something similar with the offset x and offset y Tutorial you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/_fpiTDX9Ccs/v-deo.html
      SO you can use the Offset x and offset y technique and use it to move your translate nodes for your "Clean image" or the new image that has no people/objects.. But again this may not work depending on your movie clip/camera movements..
      I hope this helps!..

    Good tutorial however i did everything exact to the point of adding translate node. When i use the X slider it does not move the mask. Maybe i have done right but it might be to do with the mask, for example i use Alt C to close the points and go from there. What if it is because all the points are still selected as in the a key ? Hope you figure my problem there.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  3 роки тому +1

      Hey RWF, You mean if all the points in the mask are selected?.. As long as the mask is closed (like you did with Alt C) it should not be a problem. I would think it would be a problem with the Nodes.. I should also mention that I have been developing a free blender add-on called VFX Nodes. It has a bunch of pre made nodes with different effects, the Patch Node is essentially this same effect but in one single node group. You can check out the video on my channel or check out the blog post here: darkfallblender.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_8.html

      @@DarkfallBlender Thanks for the rapid response. I will get that add on but first let me explain what i figured out. I loaded a still image into movie clip editor and followed your instructions from there . It did not work, however on an actual movie clip it did work but still a problem there. The problem was the area i masked when using the translate node X axis it was moving stuff from the right of what i masked. Other than that amazing tutorial that has made me have a go at other tutorials you have made. Definitely. subscribing to your channel.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  3 роки тому

      So when you load in a single image into the movie clip editor and then say move to a different frame it will cause issues (I think that was one of your problems) Another thing, in your render settings make sure the resolution Percentage slider is at 100% (this is a common problem and will effect your output in the compositor) The vfx nodes will auto set the % slider when you add a node. I think the % slider will effect your Translate for the X..
      If this is still not working you can try starting a new project, use the VFX addon and see if you get the same result?.. Also thanks for the support 👍!

      Darkfall: That’s very intuitive. The pickle I’m in is I was using Adobe after effects and the roto-brush does that exact thing frame by frame automatically. Unfortunately, I’m using the trial version of After Effects and there is no way (that I have found) to export my footage in a way that can be played. So, I’m looking for free solutions that don’t require me to outline my subject frame by frame every time. Do you have and tips or solutions to offer? Any help means a lot

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  4 роки тому

      I see.. roto scoping can be done 5 frames at a time (in some cases) which will make it slightly easier but most times it will need frame by frame.. It can be time consuming but it's worth the effort..
      That being said, for some videos we can use the difference node.. This would require you to first have a clean plate image of your back ground(so just the bg and no actor in the shot) and secondly your background needs to be stationary (not just camera motion but no motion at all).. Again this is very specific and probably won't help in this scenario..

    • @firstlast9813

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  4 роки тому

      You can remove the person but it would be more work. You would have to animate the mask and do whats called Roto scoping (fancy name for going frame by frame and moving your mask to match the outline of the man). Then once you have animated your mask you can jump to the compositor and just add a mix node, plug in your movie clip and plug in your new movie clip (the one you want to replace the old background with) then add a mask and plug into the factor of the mix node.. I also created an Addon called the VFX Nodes with you could use to create the nodes for the Patch node and the Clone Node

      @@DarkfallBlender yes, I know that. Iam doing this technique with resolve and I hate it because it takes ages and makes my hand hurt. I asked because I thought there would be an easier way in blender, because I saw a guy who showed how to track faces and remove things like pimples or stuff in the background, all with a plugin that gives you a 3d model of a human head.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  4 роки тому

      It depends on the scenario I guess. For example, if th footage was on a tripod and the background did not move but the actor does, you could create a quick clean plate (a still shot from before the actor enters the shot) then use a difference node it would remove the background since the node will only show the difference (that being the actor).. Though I guess that's not going to be helpful for other cases.
      You said about how you saw someone remove pimples, that would be easy and we have done things like that before. I also have a "Marker Removal" node that you can use to remove things from actors faces (no models needed)..
      Again it's always "scene dependent"

    Help! When I slide X axis in 'Translate' node my original man stays put and another one appears to his left! Followed this early stage of your tutorial five times to make sure I was doing it all correctly. Any suggestions?

    • @DarkfallBlender

      Is the translate node on the correct string?.. You could try and swap the inputs round on the mix node.

    • @kelvinmoore2521

      Thanks for getting back so quickly. All nodes connected as per your tutorial. I changed the inputs round on the mix node and although the man didn't duplicate, only some of him disappeared then returned erratically. I'll keep working away and see how I get on. Once again thanks for responding and producing an exciting tutorial.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому

      Hmm, it's strange. When you connect the nodes it sometimes doesn't update. Once you connect everything just reconnect the string into the viewer node or (if you have the node wrangler add on enabled) hold ctrl+shift then left click the mix node.. This should refresh the backdrop.. (you could also check "Auto Render" at the bottom - this may help) Anyway I'm sorry I couldn't help you any more then this without seeing the problem It's hard to guess what it could be.

      Think I may have a problem with Blender - I followed one of your other videos using tracking markers and masks to remove specific areas. Although while scrubbing through the markers and masks tracked the areas they did not remove/mask those specific areas. Think I'll re install Blender. Thanks for your help and advice.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому

      Im not sure if that will fix the issue.. It would help if I could see your process.. So when you add the mix node and then the mask and connect them up, at first nothing changes but when you add the translate node (to the bottom string) and then change the value of the translate now the man should move.. in your case what happens? I think it may be something simple and can be fixed but without seeing the problem it's hard to guess what it may be.. If you can record a video of you trying this tutorial and then posting it on my facebook page, I might be able to help..

    Removing all the actors from a movie

  • @letsblendthis5784
    @letsblendthis5784 7 років тому +1

    You only needed two masks for that. Even one would have been enough if you had used Gimp or Photoshop to create the missing rock part (using a still frame from the footage) and add it back on top of the scene. Look here for the node three and exemple of the rock image on transparent background -> i.imgur.com/Q60iq3Q.jpg

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому +1

      What about lighting changes? When you use a still frame it wont change when the lighting does.. In this example the lighting does not change and yes you can get away with going into another program and creating your image but in my opinion its a waste of time. In most other cases the lighting may change slightly especially outdoors and a still frame will stand out..

    • @letsblendthis5784
      @letsblendthis5784 7 років тому +1

      It clearly is faster, if you're used to photo editing. You're right about the lighting, I didn't think of that because it's not an issue on this footage. Though, you can animate the value of a color correction node, or a simple "hue/ saturation/ value" node. I've used this technique once.
      Your second mask can be avoided, in the "motion tracking" window you can add located feathering on your mask, this way your mask is only blurry in the sea area, not the rock/feet, you don't need the blur node.

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  7 років тому +1

      I don't see how its faster to stop and open up a program just to create an image when I can create a mask in the same program I am already using. The workflow is much better IMO but we all have our preferences I guess. As for the feathering you are correct but I prefer to use a blur node. again its all down to your preference. Creating an extra mask takes only a few seconds... anyway, I appreciate the comment!..

    • @DarkfallBlender
      @DarkfallBlender  4 роки тому

      Hey, yeah once you have removed that person or object, you can then add another person or object on top of that movie clip as you normally would. I should also mention, I have created an add-on that helps with tasks like this. You can use the Clone node or the Patch Node to remove someone from your shot. It will save you time by adding the nodes you need with a single button : ua-cam.com/video/HyPSR1v6sps/v-deo.html
      That is a video of the Darkfall VFX Nodes addon. You should note that this was version 1.0 and we are now on version 1.5.. So you my want to watch the other videos in that series to see what has changed. Of you can download the Addon from our blog (link in description)..

One of them the camera is moving so you have to track that shot as well, if you want just search for green screen in my videos and you will find it.. Good luck with your project,..
