to me, and I am sure to many others, the Jag is the best solid guitar ever. So expressive with the vibrato and that thick tone. Capable both of rough and subtle sounds. It is great to see a session player like Pierce playing one. And he seems to really dig it! Of all the guitars he showed in this rundown, and they were all good, the jaguar was the most distinct and by far the best. What do you guys think?
I love the Jaguar for freaking everything: The Design, The Chrome, The Tone Variations with and without effect Pedals and the shimmery vibrato bar🙂 I'm glad that I own a Jag and love the short scale neck a lot😃 The Jaguar like the Jazzmaster are completly missunderstoods guitars🤔
I lean more towards the Jazzmaster but either one I agree are the best guitars. The vibrato is what got me hooked, plus a rhythm circuit that can provide another tonal option or simply a kill switch, and it’s comfortable to play sitting or standing.
I’ve always been intrigued by the Jaguar, but never really thought of taking the leap and purchasing one. After watching Tim strike a few chords, I am now sold.
Tims one of those guys, his joy for the instrument is totally infectious. Any time I see Tim play, I wanna pick up my guitar and play too. His knowledge and skills are off the charts, which could easily be intimidating. He could shred anyone's face off I've no doubt. But his love for music seems to give him some kind of... Telepathic connection to the right parts to play for the song? That's what's inspiring about him. Nothing he's ever done sounds to me like it's in the way, or obstructing the song. He only adds to it. There's something genuinely beautiful and awe inspiring about that.
Jags are the best, I love them. I have to say equally as rad is the Jazzmaster, too. I have a Jazzmaster that I decided to model after the '57 prototype, that never was. Gold guard, burst, blacks p-up covers and flat-top knurled knobs (T style). It's got the Seymour Duncan Antiquity set for the warmer 50's sound but I also put flat wounds on it. It will always have a set of them. They really do bring a new dynamic.
I run 14-56 ‘flats’ on a early 60’s SG special into a 65’ AC-30 twin (no pedals except a wah occasionally) and it sounds amazing! I almost sold it cus I didn’t get the sound I wanted till I tried flats
I tried flats on my jaguar and they definitely pair well with the bright pickups. The issue I ran into which made me take them off within the hour was they were very dead acoustically, they are poorly suited for styles of music other than "vintage jaguar" sounds, and they required higher action to prevent buzzing compared to the same gauge of round wounds. It would be cool to have a second guitar laying around with flats on them but it was pretty niché and not something I'd recommend as the standard jaguar setup.
I like that It’s probably a fender super reverb amp you’re playing through..the guitar you say you’ll never sell it. You’ll just hand it down to somebody in the family to sell. Jaguars are cool looking. I got two fender Stratocaster’s made in America …sound just as good as that, how do we know it ain’t copyrighted by the Chinese.. I understand . I always cherish a guitar that feels right in the hands ,not just because it can make big sounds and play loud like AC/DC and some of the other bands.😊
What flat-wound string gauge would be appropriate for a Jaguar? Asking because my first guitar was a fender jaguar but I hardly play it. Maybe this will make me wanna play it again.
Looks like he has Thomastiks from the look of the silk raps in red. Glad he spent on Thomastiks. Or maybe the Jag had the flats on it already when he received it. So many people use Chromes which are way to stiff and don't sound as good.
I had a pair once on my jazzmaster. Incredible tone. I saved them.😁 Anyway. Can you suggest any guitar string companies. That still make them available.👍✌️
Thomastik-Infeld and Pyramid have good reputations when it comes to flatwounds. D'Addario makes some too but I don't like them personally. Beyond that, boutique makers like LaBella or Dogal, but they are pretty pricey.
They are not so expensive as someone think, i got a 1966 Jaguar some years ago for 2350 EUR. Never tried Flats on that guitar, now i have to check this out.

Absolutely! I put the Jazzmaster in the same category. There’s not enough session players demoing these amazing and painfully misunderstood guitars.
Great to see, I just wish he knew how the rhythm circuit works 🤣
The Jag is the greatest, most misunderstood guitar ever.

If you fancy trying the concept, the Squier CV 70s ones are RREALLY good.
@@Bruisewillies I’ll check that out. Thanks!
My first bandleader played a '64 Jag with flats (amongst other things) - bloody awesome!

this rig rundown is easily in the top 5 of all time :)
So nice Tim!!!! My dad “handed down” to me his 1963 Burgundy Mist Jaguar. It will stay in my family Lord willing - forever!

Yes! Jaguar/Jazzmaster vibrato is the best ever.

I can't believe someone edited this and thought, "Yeah, let's definitely keep the super cool 'play it while you're on your surfboard' bit."
Go flats go!

Wow, he traded his stepson’s friend for a guitar.
Good trade.
Probably just a fair weather friend anyway….😉😆
I can see why the Beach Boys loved these guitars!

I agree on the not liking chromes.
Don’t think those are thomastiks, as plain b and e aren’t wound in their sets.
I run super heavy flat wounds on my doom guitar (sg, tuned to C std). It's amazing sounding, especially with all the gain.
I had a pair once on my jazzmaster. Incredible tone. I saved them.😁

@@Gottrahmen thank you Tim.👍✌️
Big thumbs up for Thomastik-Enfeld flatwounds - they come in a range of gauges, too. I have a 10-44 'jazz swing' set that is easier on hands.
I always run flatwound 14s on my jaguars
I put flats on my jazzmaster figured it was built for it.
Reverb on expression, damn.
another repeat ?
Just got a squir with flat wounds I love it
Jaguar > Strat
I think the trem stays in tune way better than a strat trem but the sustain is horrible.
this thing is quite similar to my höfner XD
strutting the Greg Koch look?!? that is a little different....... ;)
Had flat wounds on a Gibson for over 20 years no problem….
Fuqin legend. Yall dont know
Bitchen surf guitars, I have a 64, just wants you to play wipeout, 007 theme, ventures. 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This is going to cost me money.

The constant use of “Arsenal” is so dorky to me.
mk.gee….
