    DID YOU KNOW?
Punk and early new wave rockers such as Tom Verlaine of the band Television (who can be seen playing a Jaguar on a 2003 album cover)[1] adopted the Jaguar for both contrarian and economic reasons; its lack of mainstream use made it both a style statement and less expensive than guitars of comparable quality. In the 1990s the popularity of the Jaguar and Jazzmaster exploded after they were used by guitarists such as Scott Hill, John Squire, Kurt Cobain (for whom a signature model was introduced), Kevin Shields, Black Francis, J Mascis, Brian Molko, Rowland S. Howard, Thurston Moore, John Frusciante, Will Sergeant and Johnny Marr (who has a signature model). Despite this, Jaguars still fetch considerably less than Telecasters and Stratocasters of similar year and condition.
One of the reasons why the Jaguar was used by indie rock artists is the sonic possibilities offered by the bridge construction. The bridge and vibrato unit of the Jaguar and the Jazzmaster help produce sympathetic resonance since there is a considerable length of string between the bridge and the tailpiece. Additionally, by strumming the strings behind the bridge, a characteristic chiming sound can be created, an effect which has been exploited by artists like Sonic Youth.

The Jag was neglected from the waning of surf in the early ‘70 until its resurgence w/ punk/new wave late ‘70s. Early ‘90’s grunge winner.

To me, the Jaguar is my personal Strat. I own an olympic white Fender Crafted in Japan Jaguar, 2002-2004 and it's the most joy to play with it, including the ways how you can change the tone with a Jag😃

Nice RHCP reference at 5:30ish minute mark. One of klinghoffer’s best riffs. So pretty and quirky. Nicely done. That’s also one of the songs that made me want a Jag. Not sure if he used one on this or not though. 😂

I clicked on this video due to confirmation bias as my Jag is my number one guitar.
I find it to be extremely versatile tonally (and cool to look at).

omg that burgundy mist Jag is a dream! what an awesome video. My favourite two Fenders are Mustangs and Jags. The most comfortable to play for me, and I love the sound of both and the look 🙏 loved this video!

The 24" scale is actually just as close to Gibson's 24.75" scale length as Fender's traditional 25.5" scale

    • @flapjack413
      @flapjack413 2 місяці тому +1

No, Gibson's so called 24 3/4" scale is actually 24.594", or roughly 24 9/16". My jags definitely feel closer to my LP than my jazzmaster compared to my LP. But yeah, if the Les Paul were a true 24.75", then yeah, it would be right in the middle of the two.

you mess up the switches explanation. The "strangled" switch is the one closest to the volume knob. The middle swicth is the bridge on off. The switch close to the neck is for the neck pickup.

I remember in the 80's We Buy Used Guitars on 48th Street in NYC was full of used vintage Jaguars and Jazzmasters for dirt cheap. Nobody wanted them. Then Nirvana came out and the prices went through the roof.

EDIT: I forgot I could prolly walk into your store and find a decently priced period accurate American Jag. I really miss living down the street from you guys in Lakeview!!
God I want a Jag so damn bad. I love the short scale, and I love my Duo Sonic but I need it! Super bummed I missed out a few years back when they were making these in the American Standard line, now you have to get something that is affordable but not really period correct or a REALLY expensive American model. Why did Fender take them off the standard line after like 2019!??!?!

Would love to see a picture of that Jaguar under the pickguard because to my eyes that’s undoubtedly Foam Green. I have a couple of original sonic blue Instruments, faded and unfaded. Neither of them looks anything like this.
I briefly owned a 1966 Foam Green Jaguar and it was exactly this shade of green under the pickguard

Aren't the metallics rarer purely because you had to pay extra? They're all DuPont car colours of course but the metallic would have to be mixed specially. Most store models or simple catalogue orders would adhere to the usual colours.

I love Jaguars but they’re no fun to shop for if your budget is like3-4k. There’s nothing out there but overpriced beaters that have been through hell.
    I just got a 7-1/2lb AV2 Jazzmaster for $2500 and it’s incredible.

The built in fuzz is something that I'm surprised wasn't done by Fender back in the day, specifically for the Jaguar. It was attempted by Gibson around the same time with the eb-0f and shortly after with Vox and others, but it makes a ton more sense than a "rhythm switch" for a guitar that developed and marketed specifically for surf and modern guitarists in mind. On the Jazzmaster it made total sense.
