  • We stopped by the Rock N Roll Vintage shop in Chicago and go our hands on some delectable vintage Fender offsets: an early '60s Jazzmaster found in an abandoned barn and an all-original, well-loved 1965 Jaguar. See more on Reverb: shorturl.at/fmAF4

@@Mark70609 The Birthday Party stuff I think is probably Rowland's weakest work to be honest. His two solo records are stunning, and I love his work in These Immortal Souls and Crime and the City Solution.

That Jag has one fugly sunburst. Anyway, put 11/12 gauge flatwound strings and it all makes sense. Such a versatile and fun guitar.

The last Jaguar I played was really bright. I have a Blonde Bandmaster and it certainly fattens up these guitars.

I recently had the extreme good fortune of getting one in pristine condition. I’d like to tell you it didn’t live up to expectations … but damn, it’s even better than I’d hoped.

Love my 90s MIJ Jag. I got curious: the 1962 price of a new sunburst Jag: $375. It was the most expensive Fender of the pre-CBS era (a sunburst Start was only $280 in ‘62.)

I have only played a JM and a Jag in their Squier variations, so I would LOVE to play the real vintage versions. I am drawn to the Jag looks and pickups, but when I played those Squiers, the Jazzmaster felt better in the hand .
The kids at GC didn’t understand how the controls worked and I only learned after that visit so the initial complexity of both was rather stymieing for me. I hope to have another go at it and at least find 2 Vintera reiterations to play side by side now that I understand the controls.
Thanks for the video, I’m gonna steal some of your tunes 🤜🏽🎸🤛🏽

Jazzmasters are so much fun. I wish the offset body shape was taken and used with a wider variety of guitar designs (it seems like jazzmaster fans don’t like changing things about the original design). I remember I had always wanted a jazzmaster with a Floyd rose and when Guitar Fetish recently announced the SBS Guitars line, I immediately set my heart on getting one of the vintage looking blue jazzmaster models. I then replaced the knobs with old black fender witch hat knobs and put pearloid block inlays stickers on it to give it the look of a 60’s jazzmaster, as well as add a checkerboard strap for extra classic 50’s-60’s looks. I love that thing to death. The Floyd rose and 60’s Fender offset look together makes for this true “hot rod” classic car-looking thing about it. I need to play out with it more.

Beautiful playing but man is that JM harsh. Even my Squier with modern pickups has a warmer neck pickup. And a lovely fat necK!

I’ve not deeply bonded with any vintage design jazzmasters myself. I’ll tell you, the best sounding jazzmaster I’ve ever played, across vintage design vs. more modern leaning ones, was an American Professional Jazzmaster with the newer V Mod pickups in the 2010’s. That was one of the best sounding guitars I’ve ever played in my life. I highly recommend trying one.
