I think most people don't realize that Wukong is a trickster who loves to troll. That said, the game does a poor job establishing that as part of his character. Just look at the start of chapter one. He (his successor I guess) transforms into a fruit to troll some wolves. And then out he comes all serious. Could've shown him having a laugh or the time of his life for example to show what he's like. But nope, throughout the game your character is mainly serious. And also mute.
@@directxxxx71 Pretty sure it's the real Wukong. Comparable to a reincarnation, but slightly different. Basically a remnant of himself who follows a certain path to become his real self once more. That instant death ability anime also has something like it. A sage woman who gets killed by the MC manages to 'survive' somehow by creating a vessel. This vessel has no memories of the real one, but it awakened after the death of the real one. That and... God of Highschool also does something similar in part 4 (or maybe it was 5) and the main character is pretty much a creative take on Wukong.
@@thenonexistingheroIt makes sense. The destined one is the Wukong has lost his six senses, "eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind" That's why he is not naughty and playful like the complete real Wukong.
For Chinese, Wukong’s voice has been like that for decades started from the 1964 animation , 1986’s TV series and many more other plays, radio drama etc. Sun Wukong’s voice has been tattooed in our brain, I think the English voice imitated it very well, I’d give a thumbs up!😊

The Chinese voice for Wukong is very close to the og 1986 Journey to the west tv series. If the English voice is a 7 or an 8 the Chinese voice is 10/10 especially for people who familiarized with the original Wukong voice in their childhood.
i understand why you said some voice acting in your opinion doesn't match the character, but everyone who's seen the 1986 tv show journey to the west knows this voice was above and beyond accurate. They have honored the memories of millions of kids from the 80s and 90s whos watched this show their entire childhood.
The best part of the game has to be the difficulty level - its like you said very similar to god of war which is perfect for any 'casual' player to get into and challenging enough to realise that its not just button mashing for the win. This game is phenomenal.

It's 9/10 for me. The only thing I wish was better is the level design. It's beautiful but I never felt in any area like I was scared. The basic enemies pose no real threat. I wish there were more optional parts that posed really hard challenges that offer rewards. And the invisible walls are not ideal
It's #GOTY2024 for anyone, who just genuinely love games, love them without any political agendas & narratives. Especially can't be missed if someone likes Action-Adventure games & Action-RPGs, plus interested at least a bit in the culture & myths from other parts of the world! :) About the English performance of the voiceover... Yeah, I guess Cohh tried to associate the voiceover with some short of real monkey thing... But Sun Wukong is a demon who also get to the level of gods... And a trickster spirit like others said already in this comment section as well, who can be cruel sometimes, because he is not the type of negotiate much with his enemies. :) For me his voice at the beginning just meant his determination, his bravery, and the necessary cruelty against his also cruel foes. I didn't felt his voice sneaky at all, but that's probably because I knew about his character, and his true nature already from movies, and books. All in all, I just happy others like this game just as much as me, plus I hope this game encourage more people to read the Journey to the West as well! :) Like it's happened with The Witcher books, after the success of The Witcher games.
I’ve been holding off on this game for a while, it never really interested me but as a long time souls fan and action game fan I feel I owe it to myself to experience this one.
Black Myth Wukong: a game so good it makes gamers who pride themselves on building accepting communities throw any kind of moral compass they possess out the window. Loved the review!!! #ForTheGamers
But......the Voice of Wukong....need be that....sit well with his Character trait in the Original Novel.Personally its more favor than Voice of Chinese version🤣
One of the cool things about this game is that it doesn’t have a difficulty slider. Instead, they give you an *'EASY'* mode in the gameplay itself. For example, in Chapter 2, the last boss has that annoying wind tornado that keeps blowing you away while he hides behind it. But if you explore enough, you'll find a secret area with an item that makes the fight like 10 times easier, which makes exploring in this game feel way more rewarding
This game absolutely is a Souls-like, as is Nioh. Sekiro is a souls-like and it's fast as fuck. The only thing thats different is that you don't lose your XP upon death.
Yeah I don’t understand why ppl keep saying it’s more like God of War, it does not play like God of War at all. Some ppl have said Wukong is the Chinese God of War, maybe that got carried over the wrong way? BW: W is definitely a soulslike, or at least souls-inspired.
@@william7182 I agree. Saying it's like God of War only confuses people and creates false expectations. I don’t understand why calling it a Souls-like is seen as a bad thing.
Just one thing, its a little bit early for you to talk about difficulty. I know you're like in chapter 3 or so, but showing your difficulty judgement based on chapter 1 isn't telling much, as the game's difficulty very much increases starting chapter 4, all the way to the end bosses
I have to agree with him though. I beat the game already and besides like a handful of bosses, i beat almost everything in 1 or maximum 2 attempts. This game isn't really that hard. I would say it is a nice medium level challenge.
Like he said you have multiple tricks to address difficulty even for the hardest fights, you'll be suprise on how the fights became easy just because you change something on your build depending on the boss
@@thomegatherion924 If you beat the last & optional secret boss in 2 attempts, you're an exceptional player and therefore not a reference to judge this game's difficulty
@@Payneonline No, those two were actually difficult and took me more than 2 attempts. Like i said, MOST bosses were first try. This game is simply nowhere near the difficulty that soulslike games have. And that's okay. Of course, everyone is different and some people "get" how the game works faster than others.
@@thomegatherion924have to agree with you there, the only boss I struggled with was that scorpion in chapter 4 and the final boss in chapter 2, the rest were so easy
I’m a gameplay focused gamer. I’m ok without combos as long as the game makes me use my brain and has some variety. Ranton sort of made me feel like this won’t be for me. Thoughts?
Absolutely gorgeous game to play. Has some souls-like features but the difficulty I'd say is way easier. Which is great as it's accessible to more casual players.
U wont be disappointed if u keep playing on the game until the end and optinal bosses, they are cool Gorgeous, but there are still a lot of glitches that need to be fixed.
It's a good game, but kind of dissapointed that there are no attack combos. You only mash light attacks, and you can do strong attacks in between or separately. That's it. For comparison, God of War has a heap of cool combos you can do, which come in handy for particular fights. Kind of odd that for a game so focused on combat, combos are almost non-existent.
The game's combat still feels more like a Souls combat style. The combo in black myth wukongis just make the combat feel more fluid and flashy. Using light attacks with a parry is pretty cool if you can pull it off.
Bruh. 100% no to the queuing. I absolutely want a game to make me time my hits and give me the option to move cancel except in a few moments where you are physically committed to an animation.
I just spent around 2k hours in elden ring and still playing it but Iam ready for somthing else while waiting for monster hunter wild. Is this game will fill my nerdy stomach with at least 1k hours you think? Is this some kind of a looting game? Any endgame contents? Multi player maybe? How about making different builds to work with... anything to keep players like me playing in long term? Thing is that I cant take any game seriously if theres nothing at the end of the line.
Huh.. didn’t think the English version Wukong sounded more like a snake than a monkey but after you explained, I can see what you mean. I’ll be playing in Chinese.
It's fun but I have no illusions I'll be able to finish the game. I'm still soldiering on (in Chapter 2), needing more than 10 attempts to beat some of the bosses, but I know things get a lot harder later on, so at some point I'm just going to hit a brick wall.
Big deal. Sales dont mean shit. It only shows how quick people have come to buy something over visuals alone. Most players wont even finish half this game, just you watch. Stellar blade got huge praise when released but somehow that got forgotten about in a month? This game will get the same treatment. You all got duped into buying a game meant to piss you off with poorly implemented combat mechanics. Any R2 + "X" rarely work when needed.
The Wukong voice is actually very good. That's because Wukong is kind of an ass that loves to talk shit and troll people (in the end, he's still just a monkey that knows how to talk). Could have been better, yes, but at least the voice actor nailed Wukong's trolling attitude.
Elden Ring is the closet thing to black myth ive played. I dont see anything in Black Myth that reminds me of God of War. Ive platinum'd both. Wukongs NA voice fits perfectly with his character
It's #GOTY2024 for anyone, who just genuinely love games, love them without any political agendas & narratives. Especially can't be missed if someone likes Action-Adventure games & Action-RPGs, plus interested at least a bit in the culture & myths from other parts of the world! :)
About the English performance of the voiceover...
10000% yes. I just completed it and got the secret ending on Thursday. What a game, man.
Just finished chapter 4. Love it
General Zod loves black myth wukong
I’ve been holding off on this game for a while, it never really interested me but as a long time souls fan and action game fan I feel I owe it to myself to experience this one.
so how do you feel it so far?
Wukong is mischievous. Probably why they went with a snakey sound.
Black Myth Wukong: a game so good it makes gamers who pride themselves on building accepting communities throw any kind of moral compass they possess out the window. Loved the review!!! #ForTheGamers
Wukong's english voice is exactly how it should be, it sounds perfect to me
But......the Voice of Wukong....need be that....sit well with his Character trait in the Original Novel.Personally its more favor than Voice of Chinese version🤣
Just curious. Without reading the original novel, how do most western players imagine what Wukong should sound like? Maybe Aragorn or Mufasa?
No one is commenting about the soundtrack! Its amazing
Great job with this video!
One of the cool things about this game is that it doesn’t have a difficulty slider.
Instead, they give you an *'EASY'* mode in the gameplay itself.
For example, in Chapter 2, the last boss has that annoying wind tornado that keeps blowing you away while he hides behind it.
But if you explore enough, you'll find a secret area with an item that makes the fight like 10 times easier, which makes exploring in this game feel way more rewarding
wind tamer
@@ericliume "Easy"?
the game is dope…..love just jumping into that world and seeing what happens
This game absolutely is a Souls-like, as is Nioh. Sekiro is a souls-like and it's fast as fuck. The only thing thats different is that you don't lose your XP upon death.
Exactly. So much closer to souls game than God of War lol
Yeah I don’t understand why ppl keep saying it’s more like God of War, it does not play like God of War at all. Some ppl have said Wukong is the Chinese God of War, maybe that got carried over the wrong way? BW: W is definitely a soulslike, or at least souls-inspired.
@william7182 I platinum'd the 2018 god of war and got close on ragnorok and the other similarity I've seen is the way the opening cut scene starts
English VA for wukong doesn't sound like a snake at all lol I'm glad many other commenters are pointing out that he sounds exactly like he should
I’m a gameplay focused gamer. I’m ok without combos as long as the game makes me use my brain and has some variety. Ranton sort of made me feel like this won’t be for me. Thoughts?
the dota 2 voice for Wukong is the best
Monkey magics eng va is fine. If you read JTTW you can see it fits his character.
Absolutely gorgeous game to play. Has some souls-like features but the difficulty I'd say is way easier. Which is great as it's accessible to more casual players.
Haha, you must be really good because I think it’s much harder than Bloodborne or Sekiro.
thanks, brotherman! here's 50
U wont be disappointed if u keep playing on the game until the end and optinal bosses, they are cool Gorgeous, but there are still a lot of glitches that need to be fixed.
A suggestion for a new difficulty level instead of too easy or too hard
... perfect? Which in my opinion is exactly the level of the game
it has soo many souls elements to be a souls like
It's a good game, but kind of dissapointed that there are no attack combos.
It’s a must buy and I’m on chapter 4
I loved Elden ring , a little burnt out from it at the moment . I'm almost done Lies of P , is this what I should play next boys ?
5:35 look at that jiggly ear
I definitely think it has some Souls dna in it. And the chinese voice acting is awesome.
Pretty damn GOOOD !
Bruh. 100% no to the queuing. I absolutely want a game to make me time my hits and give me the option to move cancel except in a few moments where you are physically committed to an animation.
This is more souls like than anything else!
Not only is it worth playing, so far it is the Game of the Year. I dont see any game this year that can beat this game.
Good thumbnail
I just spent around 2k hours in elden ring and still playing it but Iam ready for somthing else while waiting for monster hunter wild. Is this game will fill my nerdy stomach with at least 1k hours you think? Is this some kind of a looting game? Any endgame contents? Multi player maybe? How about making different builds to work with... anything to keep players like me playing in long term? Thing is that I cant take any game seriously if theres nothing at the end of the line.
Huh.. didn’t think the English version Wukong sounded more like a snake than a monkey but after you explained, I can see what you mean. I’ll be playing in Chinese.
the first contender for GOTY
My friend just paid his debt with me so im gonna buy this game tomorrow using that money yesssiirrr
"It's not hard" does 8 times
It's fun but I have no illusions I'll be able to finish the game. I'm still soldiering on (in Chapter 2), needing more than 10 attempts to beat some of the bosses, but I know things get a lot harder later on, so at some point I'm just going to hit a brick wall.
Black Myth is looking at 30 Million Sales in 3 years - Games don't read fake news
Trump lost 2020 fair
Any R2 + "X" rarely work when needed.
btw wukong in novel and show and movie talks like that. It sounds like a monkey. He is mischievous
The Wukong voice is actually very good. That's because Wukong is kind of an ass that loves to talk shit and troll people (in the end, he's still just a monkey that knows how to talk). Could have been better, yes, but at least the voice actor nailed Wukong's trolling attitude.
NG+ now, with 40h in, and I can't drop it. I m loving it. Only big issue is the RNG for some trophy (curious), :/
Worth every penny.
Elden Ring is the closet thing to black myth ive played. I dont see anything in Black Myth that reminds me of God of War. Ive platinum'd both. I feel like only people who haven't played God of War are trying to compare the two. Im currently only on chapter 2 in black Myth maybe my opinion will change. And Wukong's voice acting is perfect
The irony of this game😏
For those hating on AC shadows😂
Not only is it worth playing it is Game of the Year. I dare anyone argue that and if you try to you are wrong.
Boss rush whokong
You should try Chinese voice, it's awesome.
