Of course. Is this game worth it is nothing else than using rhetoric to provide your genuine feedback after beating the game or spending enough time in the game to have a deep enough understanding of the mechanics and features the game comes with. What else do you expect? 1 hour video of gameplay and then providing viable feedback? Use your brain dude
he's just milking it. it's normal. he probably gets mad profit from milking it considering it's the internet's current month long obsession (after palworld, hd2, lethal company, content warning)
The biggest charm of this game for me is the location shooting. Many of the monuments are scanned models of actual sites. The game graphics are so beautiful.
Welcome to visit China! It’s a welcoming and beautiful country. For so long, western media has been black picturing China as a whole, so many westerner hate China.
yes. I was in China for over 30 years but I haven't been to many museums or ancient architectural complexes, and I don't really understand traditional costumes culture. This game reproduces various remaining ancient buildings, ancient ornaments, jewelry and clothing in the game by scanning buildings and cultural relics in real scenes, which really makes me want to travel there.
Not only is this game incredible quality but it's also China's first AAA flagship game, and a truly culturally significant one at that. It's amazing to see how many people have become fascinated with the lore and story of "Journey to the West". It really is one of the greatest literature classics in human history. It deserves the 10 million copies sold❤❤❤
Many foreigners who are not familiar with Chinese culture understand this game only in terms of gameplay, overlooking its underlying story. This cultural difference leads to varied evaluations of the game. For example, there is a scene where the protagonist, the Destiny Character, encounters a mural depicting Wukong paying respects to his master, Bodhi Patriarch. Many Chinese players feel a deep resonance and can't help but stop to admire it. In the cold-toned scene, the warm light represents Wukong's most beautiful moments. It’s only as he matures that he realizes Bodhi Patriarch is his true and only master, who named him, taught him how to be a person, and imparted his skills without seeking anything in return. Despite knowing Wukong's wild nature, Bodhi Patriarch never thought to control him with a golden hoop. We know that Sun Wukong can transform into 72 different forms, yet no matter what he becomes, we can always recognize him as a monkey. When he dons a Taoist robe, his demeanor takes on an ethereal quality, reflecting his imitation of his master. This makes me wonder if Wukong is reminiscing about those carefree times spent with Bodhi Patriarch, where he felt loved and cared for. Wukong has no parents and no name; he was timid and afraid when he first met Bodhi Patriarch. Even when Wukong misbehaved during his learning, Bodhi Patriarch treated him with understanding, never scolding him. At most, he would lightly tap Wukong on the head. In Bodhi Patriarch's Lingtai Mountain, Wukong was never the eldest disciple but rather a mischievous younger brother, proudly showcasing his newly learned spells to his older brothers, who adored him. When Bodhi Patriarch was upset, the older brothers would secretly pull Wukong away, fearing he would be reprimanded. Bodhi Patriarch watched as Wukong learned many things under his guidance, smiling with the pride of all fathers who hope for their children's growth. He understood that Wukong had a mission to fulfill and would have to face it alone. Although Bodhi Patriarch was reluctant to let Wukong go, he had to release him. Despite sternly instructing Wukong not to tell others that he was his master, Bodhi Patriarch always cared about him. When Wukong was surrounded by countless celestial soldiers and ultimately trapped under Five Finger Mountain by Buddha, Bodhi Patriarch did not blame him. Instead, he would change his appearance each year to celebrate Wukong's birthday, helping him groom his messy hair and watching over him, feeling heartache for his disciple. In Chinese mythology, one day in heaven equals a year on earth, so for Bodhi Patriarch, he could visit Wukong every day. Later, when Wukong made a mistake and knocked over the ginseng fruit tree owned by Zhenyuanzi, he was given three days to revive it. Wukong searched everywhere among the gods he knew but found no solution. In desperation, he went to find Bodhi Patriarch, only to discover that he was not there. Wukong, who had not cried in five hundred years while trapped under the mountain, broke down at the thought of Bodhi Patriarch saying he would never see Wukong again. He curled up into a small ball, ultimately causing Bodhi Patriarch's heart to soften, and he helped his disciple out of trouble. Hearing his master's voice rejuvenated Wukong, as if he were reborn. Yes, even someone as powerful as Sun Wukong, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, has his soft side. Only in front of Bodhi Patriarch can Wukong be a carefree and happy little monkey. In the storyline involving the false Monkey King, Wukong says, "If my master were here, he would definitely recognize me." In Bodhi Patriarch's eyes, Wukong is merely a playful little monkey, a clever and lovable disciple, never the "bad monkey" others describe. Thus, a single mural can convey these stories without any animated scenes, allowing us to grasp its significance. This exemplifies how cultural differences influence perception. In "Black Myth: Wukong," many similar stories unfold, and just the appearance of a character brings forth numerous narratives. This is why some people deeply appreciate the game, while those unfamiliar with Chinese culture may not enjoy it as much.
thank you for this comment i really loved reading it. it made me emotional to read about how you describe wukong’s softer side. you definitely made me interested in the game and story
To add to that: Journey to the West is one of the 'Four Classic Novels' of China, these novels are some of the most influential novels in the Sino-sphere. It's the equivalent of what Shakespearean novels Hamlet and Macbeth are to the Anglo-sphere so to speak.
My favorite thing about this game is when you kill a new enemy you get a story about that enemy that fleshes it out as a "person" - like I killed the wolf assassin and learned that his backstory was being scared to kill and take a life, and so he kills from the shadows to give a "merciful death"
Tha Mad Tiger gets me, though. He just wanted revenge against those who killed the little boy he was concerned with. Little did he know that the boy's father did an awful thing which the villagers responded by beating his son to death with sticks.
For Chinese people, from 3-year-olds to 80-year-old ladies, they all know Journey to the West, Sun Wukong, the Golden Cudgel, flying in the clouds, the Flower-Fruit Mountain, and the Seventy-Two Transformations. Everyone has at least one moment when they want to become Sun Wukong, to fight monsters and demons with great pleasure, and to do somersaults in the clouds. Sun Wukong, the Monkey King, is a national idol. He is cool and handsome. Now is your chance, you can gallop in the game and sweep everything with your Golden Cudgel. This game is a work of art, like walking through a museum. You step into those ancient temples with thousands of years of history, and each of those Buddha statues and antiques has its own real existence and its own story; even the logo fonts in the Black Myth Wukong, each word has a source, all from the copybooks or stone carvings of ancient Chinese calligraphers, such as Ouyang Xun, Yan Zhenqing, etc. What an excellent work!
the thing about the yellow wind sage is that, you can remove the sanstorm blocking your vision completely by getting an artifact from a hidden quest line
It’s a reference to Journey to the West original story. In the og story Wukong also got blinded and whooped by the Yellow Wind sage magic before he got the artifact from a Bodhisattva or something
wait THATS what that does????? I just thought it gave you a free stun on him lmao... tbh tho as long as you save mana for the 3rd phase of the fight most players should be fine
@@KobunLaunch I noticed the stun, but not any sandstorm removing. The visual Sandstorm around the arena goes away after you engaged the boss once, no vessel required.
16:46 The yellow wind sage and 100 eyes were designed impossible to beat, only beacause Sun wukong lost to them in the original book. After wukong lost, he fled away and borrow those items, beat them eventually. For average chinese, this is the story we familiar with since we were kids, it took specific items to beat specific yaoguai. However, I understand why someone who have no knowledge of the book ran into a specific yaoguai and treat it like any other bosses in the game. The pattern is the final boss for every chapter requires a specific item to beat, at least in the book.
These two bosses are easy to beat as long as you do the side quest it will help to defeat the boss idk why people will complain about these bosses when you can use these items to easily beat them but people just don't use the items for some reason when literally those items cause people genuinely just gonna complain when there are straight up weaknesses to those bosses
The secret boss at the very end of the game has entirely different move sets to counter the spells you bring with you. As much as that was annoying I love it. It’s hard as shit but it’s not hard for the sake of being hard it’s just hard cus he’s fast with massive strings and he plays different based on how you play.
@@jessemach5817maybe bc you shouldn’t have to find random stupid fucking secret you don’t need for literally anything but one single boss. Game is so mid it’s crazy
The most remarkable thing is that the development team consisted of just over 100 people, most of whom had no prior experience in AAA game development. However, the final product shows no signs of cutting corners. In fact, even in the most easily overlooked aspect, such as sound effects, they put in considerable effort.
In their resume in future, only have one experience Involve directly developed BMW when working with Game Science... The CEO directly fired their team manager and employed him with ten times what others offered ... Worthy to own a superhuman game designer... .
i dont think one needs a 500 man team to make a banger game. just give 100 people time and money and they will produce gold. that's just how artists work
well you can feel sometimes it lacks contents, like the invisible walls all around the levels. But, it is not a big deal to me, game used to be like that back then. And it's refreshing, to say the least, that game devs do different choices than all ubi-garbage-like game
The free respecs is truly the best feature of this game. Getting to try all different kinds of builds and stances really lets you have fun with how you decide to play.
So many games would lock you out (or worse.. *shiver* micro transactions) Love that it lets you play the game how you want when you want - no restarting needed
If you’re in any way familiar with Chinese culture: yes. If you like cool ass scenes and action: yes. If you like challenging gameplay and stunning graphics: yes.
Not only is this game incredible quality but it's also China's first AAA flagship game, and a truly culturally significant one at that. It's amazing to see how many people have become fascinated with the lore and story of "Journey to the West". It really is one of the greatest literature classics in human history. And it's done by only 100 people with their prior experience being mobile games. Can't wait to see what Game Science will bring to the table in the future with more experience under their belt. Also looking forward to seeing how well Marvel Rivals will do later this year, from Chinese studio NetEase Games.
25:38 The knucklehead thing is not a mistranslation, is just because the pig in the book represents the basic primal desires or 'seven emotions and six desires' of a person, essentially our base instincts. As a result, he often messes things up because of his need to sleep, eat, have sex, and so on. Sometimes, he's basically just an asshole. On the other hand, the monkey represents a person's spirit, intelligence, and creativity. In the book, he is mainly responsible for fixing the messes caused by the pig and the monsters, which is why he likes to call the pig a knucklehead.
@@Ohenry92it’s hard to have direct translation sometimes especially if you need to dub it and fit the character’s time used to time, Chinese is a very concise language so 3-4 Chinese words may correspond to much more words when directly translated to English
@@Ohenry92 Having a direct translation to any East Asian language is not that simple due to the weird syntax most of them have. Japanese for example: its structure is basically backwards, almost like how Yoda would speak if translated in English. Plus some use phrases and sentences that we as westerners wouldn’t understand.
@@ulfberht4431Chinese syntax isn't actually that complicated. It mostly maintains the basic SVO word order that we use English. There are only a few different rules that are fairly consistent and easy to remember, like words indicating time or position come right after the subject (in Chinese you would say "I today going to the store" instead of "I'm going to the store today")
Are these comments from BOT accounts? I’ve seen 3 different accounts saying almost the EXACT same thing about the “chapter end animations.” I’m sure they’re great but for so many different accounts to be making almost identical comments is EXTREMELY fishy. I wouldn’t be surprised by Chinese super-fans botting comment sections about Chinese games, honestly.
@@user-dj9iu2et3rWhat’s the issue with gamers showing love for a well designed game? Does it matter what the gamer's nationality is? I never saw any comments on a video about a game from other countries trying to find their BOT. Why questioning Chinese BOT?
cringe indeed, cuz there are few words that simply cannot be translated into english😂 game science did their best by keeping words like yaoguai instead of monster
As a Chinese American who grew up on Journey to the West while being bullied in American public schools for being weird/different if I mentioned Chinese culture, Black Myth Wukong is my Black Panther moment.
I can't lie, the boss stunning you, and then yoinking your gourd and taking a sip to heal himself was lit as hell, reminds me of when Thor straight up gave Kratos the defibrillator treatment
The brilliance of this game is having clear cut chapters with a super well made animation and illustrations to make you feel good after whatever frustration you had with the bosses
I love the fact that it isn't a souls games. Sometimes you just want to enjoy battling some badass looking bosses without having to learn all their moves to avoid being one-hit killed.
Black myth wukong is a game that gives you the feeling of those old cool games where they don't try to trick you into spending money on a battle pass or skins or game currency, you just start and go through the game with full access to the gameplay, all quests and items. It is sad that there are very few such games now.
The answer is yes I spent 10 minutes just basking in the ethereal glow of the opening fight and cinematic. My only regret is not buying it earlier enough so I could finish it before classes started
Wukong sticking the landing, Lies of P being shockingly polished, & Stellar Blade turning out to be decently solid has me sold on the Chinese&Korean dev scene. Looking forward to Crimson Desert and Phantom Blade Zero.
@asfasfasfasf360 you can go watch some streams of it if you'd like. Was on the fence for it too, and it seems somewhat like god of war like what Charlie said, very hack and slash (and not very souls like to me). No idea how Lies of P is like, so you'll have to see and compare for yourself 👍
Chinese here, i cant believe how deep they went into the myth. they probably have couple PHD consulted them, plus the action in this game is just so good i cant believe they delivered it as their debut game
@@dichen4495 In my country its HK version starring Dicky Cheung, and the opening song is dub into Rap Monkey King singging Rap is basicly what I remember lol
I know how rich the Chinese language is and that will affect how hard the translation process is going to be , from your perspective does the English dup mistreat some aspects of the story telling of the game ?
@@سهيلالزهراني-غ9ت I think that because the development team was too small and the signs of rushing the release date were too obvious, they also initially thought that this game only had a market in China and did not put much effort into internationalization. In addition, it was mixed with various ancient Chinese and classic Chinese stories. If you don’t have enough knowledge of these knowledge systems, even Chinese people would need to look up information. All of the above caused great trouble to the translation work.
The highlight for me was the healing system. Being able to customise so much is insane, and the fact that you can basically use the gourd as an attack buff is also insane, love it
Ive heard people saying that this is bad game design, but it is a reward for exploration and the Fuban boss isnt that easy either. Furthermore in the JTTW story, monkey kept going to look for divine help so actually it makes sense
@@aizoid4735exactly. Charlie beat us 3 tries I think with no wind tame lol. The ppl comparing are ppl who came in expecting god of war and never played souls games
When i looked at rumours of the game being more gow than souslike, then i played it myself, i was like- wtf? How is this GoW like? Its way more soulslike
For some reason, I beat yellow wind sage on my second try .. The white snake on Chapter 1 took me longer as well as the Tiger temple boss. No, I didn't do the secret boss first before that.
My 2 favourite animation moments are; 1) the injured white wolf love story with a young man that eventually have to kill it after learning what she will do to their family.. 2) the pig unrequited love story with a demon lady
Brother, I think you misunderstood. 1. The story of the white fox is about the young man dreaming that something like this would happen, not knowing it. 2. Bajie and the spider are not in unrequited love, but love each other. If the pig reveals his love for the spider, it will put his lover and child in danger, so he has to do this.
@@snalxe4366 Bro, I'm Chinese and know what I'm talking about.. I grew up on these stories and have the whole book collection to prove it.. OK, it's a fox, my bad
That's awesome but just being Chinese doesn't make you an expert no disrespect, but yes its a fox, and from reading the text Bajie and the spider demon do in fact love each other it's not unrequited love. Amazing game though, hope you're enjoying it.
It sounds like Black Myth Wukong is an exciting experience, especially with its dynamic combat and impressive boss fights. The issues with the health pool and some design choices are notable, but it seems like a game worth trying for fans of action-packed gameplay.
The yellow wind sage really is the boss that made me realise how much the devs wanted you to finish the obsession before fighting the final boss because the item you get by finishing it makes the boss 10 times easier. For those who aren't aware, getting the item allows you to just disperse the tornado placed by the sage, and also stun certain bosses like the dragon. If you are having trouble with him, I highly recommand doing the obsession to get it. + This obsession is quite cool.
That hundred eye Taoist master bs second phase, it’s actually the result of dev trying to be lore accurate. In the original Journey to the West. That hundred eye guai’s second phase shoots out rays of lights from his eyes and those lights restrained Wukong’s movements. Wukong couldn’t pass through those lights, and they were giving him pain. (Wukong is nearly unkillable) so instead of grinding through the pain and fight him toe to toe, wukong asked roaster god (owner of the golden needle) for help.
Is interesting that in game just burns your stamina, also the needle is in the smae chapter and the animation for breaking the illusion wall is amazing
@@thorinhannahs4614 A lot of big shot fantasy stories tend to be like that. The number of heroes who relied only on themselves(and their parent's inheritance like batman) are incredibly few. And if it aint getting blessings from gods, it's from sticking their fingers in radioactive spider nests or being born into a race of supermen.
@@Green.n.Purple At least it made sense to me in that the ordeals had restrictions placed on them and asking for help was part of the Journey especially considering Wukong before he got Buddha clapped.
Yes, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time being an adult I dont get time to play PlayStation but coming from work playing wukong is nothing but joy and excitement
@@makasete30At the moment, imo playing on balanced mode (I believe 40 or 45 fps) is the best course of action, since Performance mode has a noticeable delay, due to it reaching 60fps through frame generation.
You really did yourself a disservice by not doing the true ending boss before this. By FAR the best boss in the game but also by far the toughest and healthiest. The segments after the fight are so fuckin cool as well. And yeah, it's so hard it makes yellow loong look like a tutorial enemy. For reference, yellow took me 9 attempts, secret boss took me like 50, consort radahn took me 15. This boss is actually one of the most cracked bosses I've ever fought. There's also so much cool dialogue and counters. He doesn't just counter 1 thing, he counters EVERYTHING. Dodges your charged heavies, reflects your immobilize back onto you, dodges your unveiling strike and counters with owl strike, counters your transform with his own transform that cancels yours if it hits and even if you dodge it he can still instantly knock you out with eye lasers if those hit you. The thing is, he doesn't just counter you, he reacts verbally to what you do. If he reflects immobilize he doesn't even hit you while you are frozen, he just berates you verbally. He has unique dialogue talking about each of your transforms. Also, even though he CAN counter everything, you can counter his counters and still get use. He dodges your charged heavies, but not if he's in the air. He dodges unveiling strike, but not if he's in a combo. He has moves that can cancel your transforms but you can dodge them. The only thing truly not good is immobilize. ALSO theres solid uses for virtually your whole melee kit, even the staff twirl. Unrelated to that but I don't know shit about journey to the west and this story made no fuckin sense. They kept talking about people and places and events that I just never heard of. The true ending just left me confused. All the story stuff seemed cool but basically unrelated to anything I was doing outside of chapter 4. Didn't stop me from enjoying the game and the presentation of the story, but I got pretty much nothing out of that aspect. I also do think combat does end up feeling a bit repetitive against most enemies except transforms which is honestly a crazy amount of movesets to lock behind something most people will only engage with like 20% of at most. Spear light combo also kinda jank between hits 3 and 4.
never seen journey to the west until post end game. Gotta say, I think that's an issue with you paying attention to the game. You learn a majority of information you need to appreciate a lot of areas at least a bit. in the first are you understand the mountain was wukongs domain and now it's in disarray. The bear clearly knows who you are and even calls your great sage then correcting down to young sage. thus you learn wukong was called the great sage. In the second area it seems like the rat knew wukong and maybe even fought him before. because he seems to have a bit of a grudge against you. In the third area very clearly yellowbrow is trying with you and once more the legacy of wukong follows you. the 4th I interpreted as showing wukong is not a hero as we may have been lead to believe. we see the desolation left in his wake. Again in the 5th lots more desolation as somehow we damaged the bull kings family. Then a lot was explained in the end of chapter 6 and the true ending definitely can be confusing but at face value I saw us getting his memories. Us inheriting the mantle, then it looked like maybe we were the second wukong that was leaving the room with weapons.
@@malvarado9912 yeah but "this guy knows us" "this guy maybe fought wukong before" is not sensical. HOW did he know us and why is it important to my character (who is not wukong)? Why am I dying at the start of chapter 2 but can get revived? Hell, what even happens between chapters? Why does my character want to collect the relics? Despite these people knowing wukong, I still don't know much about wukong except that maybe he was an asshole except they showed like 2 very different versions of the bull king stuff that were happening at different times or maybe they didn't happen at all and somehow the bullking is super big now and all wukong's friends betrayed him and got a piece of him (the relics) but maybe not? Like I just have no idea which information I can trust or why it matters to destined one or what wukong even wants to do with his revival. How do I know boar guy with the rake who is clearly best buds with us? It's not a coherent narrative without past information. You can glean some info, but it's without context.
@@AWanderingSwordsman You can glean info, and you can glean enough to understand what you need to know. Especially if you read the codex entries. if you really want to appreciate the story to its fullest. then go read, learn, or watch things on journey to the west. loved the game the first go around, but now that I better understand about 70% of the story I'm fully enamored with it. The game itself was never meant for westerners. it was a love letter to journey to the west 1986
@@malvarado9912 i mean, I don't think you can glean enough to have a satisfying narrative without prior information. I still enjoyed the game, but the story line is not remotely compelling. The game also was meant for westerners to enjoy as well. Was a pretty big part of the game and the reason they advertised it at so many western events. They were talking about how they hoped it would succeed enough to effectively build a bridge for more chinese devs to sell full games (as opposed to mobile game slop) to the west. When i get a piece of media, I'm not really looking to have a bunch of assigned homework alongside it. Also no one wants to read codex entries.
Depends on your build and level in God of War. With some builds, the bosses can be squishy. Others melt right through them. Most notably, Zeus's armor gives you the ability to do it. Only downside one hit equals death

Theres so many things that were inspired with Sekiro in this game, like the bonfire that were close to the boss, the progression character that impacted similarily, and ofc Erlang shen that plays like Isshin Ashina. There was a rumour that an easter egg even exist in this game about Sekiros journey to the west to bring back the dragons immortallity.
@goncalopereira4361 If you had actually watched to the end of the video, in the last 3 seconds or so, he says, "If I had to plug it into the moist meter, I'd give it an 85%". Glad Gen Z's attention span is still awful!
it really does feel like the devs wanted the players to be able to fight with the freedom and joy that Wukong himself always showed in his battles they let you play however you want and if you get bored you can just switch everything you have on a dime into a completely new build without missing a single step and i freaking LOVE that
They did so much justice to erlang, Wukong, red boy and others with their boss moveset Erlangshen perfectly encapsulated the "xianxia" trope in one fight.
The reason the secret item to counter final boss in each chapter is actually originated from the Journey To The West novel. They were all previously defeated by these items in the novel. This part of the game is super lore accurate in a way.
The only thing thats driving me insane is how much some bosses just run away from the player, its infuriating, YOU ARE THE BOSS, COME HERE AND FIGHT ME
Simply put, most mainstream media didn't even beat the game when they made the reviews, many conclusions showed that they haven't even passed the first chapters.
fun fact: yellow loong has a habit of just walking around on a certain distance and keeping that distance while charging a smash heavy is what made me defeat him.
For the Yellow Wind Sage, we are suppose to use the item we got from the 'fat pig patting his belly' side quest to stop the tornado. So it's reasonable to feel bad fighting in the tornado and can't see the boss's movement.
I dont understand people complaining about the "shallow combat" while praising Souls combat. Oh, THIS light attack, heavy attack, dodge is sooo much deeper than THIS light attack, heavy attack, dodge 🤦🏻♂️ Wukong actually has way more mechanics to its combat.
The counter to this argument is that Dark Souls/Souls games has so many different weapon types that all have their own playstyles.. Elden Ring has much more depth.
@@tachi5408does elden ring have different types of dodges? A focus system? A mid combat stance switching system? Mid combo counters? Heavy attack combo chaining? Distance closers? Jump attack chaining? Transformations?
Well Wukong actually have combination input and elden does not. Yes elden have different animations for each weapons bit you'll still be pressing the same buttons in the same order mostly.
A interview came out with Wukong team few days ago. Originally, there were 13 chapters😱, the scene in the first trailer where Wukong fought soldiers on the cloud, that was in the game, but had to cut off because this game is already big enough, and it really took a lot of resources to do all the art design and architectural build up.
DLC or sequel? 🤔 Since there’s lots of material on the cutting room floor! But man, the replayability from the build diversity alone is great if you think the game isn’t already long enough.
Regarding the Yellow Wind Sage, there's actually a questline for an NPC where you can get a Vessel to get rid of the Sand Tornado Start at the Rockrest Flat, and go in the direction of the Rock Vanguard, but go past that. There should be a small opening in the rock wall, guarded by a Spearbone. There's an open area with a pig man. You'll have to get the Sobering Stone which can be purchased from the Man in the Stone after beating him. He'll then move to Crouching Tiger Temple, to the right of the entrance to the Tiger Vanguard. Give him a the Jade Lotus or whatever its called, and youll need the Arhat gold piece, unfortunately i dont remember how to get it. Go back to where you found him the first time and beat him. You'll then get sent to a secret area. Beat the first boss and head to the shrine (straight ahead). Then, go up the small hill, talk to the NPC, beat the big Beetle. Equip the Vessel, and use it when the Yellow Wind Sage does hus second phase. It can remove the sandstorm and knock him out of that invisible teleporty attack. Hope this helps someone lol!
I heard that the orignal development plan was to make 13 chapters, unfortunately (fortunately) the investors lose patients and pushed the studio to get it online ASAP. Now im just waiting for a few DLCs to drop. 😊
In chapter 3 against the first actual boss on the frozen lake I went around the whole thing and there was soak in there that is useful for the imbobilize spell, which I highly recommend it’s on the right side of it. It’s insane how much secret stuff is in the game.
Boss specific counter item is actually intended. Those items were from the origin novel where the monsters were unbeatable without those item. So, Wukong had to beg for deity’s help.
This is only semi-related to our beloved Charlie’s video, but please… beware of people that say negative things about any game from or affiliated with China. So much rhetoric is non-generic and forced . There’s a political and commercial agenda that is not rooted in righteousness or morality, it is simply disguised as such. The truth is, many organizations and people simply don’t want anything Chinese to succeed unless it serves their agenda. So kudos to Charlie for being honest, brave, nonjudgmental, and to respectful of Black Myth Wukong. After all, it’s non just a “Chinese game” or a “Chinese Story”. It’s a game, telling a story. Chinese people aren’t just Chinese, they’re people. We need more unity and less division. I’m a white guy, an American, and I’m excited as heck about Black Myth Wukong.
Really appreciate your integrity and openness. Sadly, too many people in the West would simply repeat the same political propaganda that perpetuates sinophobia. In the case of Black Myth: Wukong, because of its vast popularity, the truth about the so-called "controversy" came out quickly thanks to many supporters who voluntarily defended the game developers, so the smearing campaign did not work. However, there are many other cases wherein the mainstream outlets just pile on whatever invented accusations against China as if it is a proven fact (like the Xinjiang genocide narrative) without even hearing the other side of the story. Although the Chinese government and many Chinese companies have obviously done problematic stuff, China does not deserve many of the attacks, especially the baseless ones (the same goes for Chinese and Russian propaganda against the US).
@@thefourthrabbit9516 agreed, 100% I believe speaking out about such things is most effective when done with integrity and polite, mature dialogue. It’s far too often that reactionary sensationalism takes hold, and propaganda thus spread via hate and negativity. In fact, it’s literally the M.O. of many public relations campaigns. That is, to utilize public outrage. It’s easy to fall prey to. Who doesn’t want to stand up for what’s right? Hence, why I mentioned the skewered perception of righteousness and morality. Thank you, as well. I will sleep a little more soundly knowing that I’m not alone in my opinion, and that others are working against such phenomena.
When discussing this topic it's very, VERY important to draw a distinction between talking about China the country, and Chinese the race. Unless you're just quite frankly racist, Chinese people, as is people of Chinese descent, are not the topic of discussion, but rather Chinese culture and government. When people say "Chinese people always fucking cheat in videogames!", it's... not wrong? But people say it for the wrong reasons. A lot of the time, people say it to be racist, but it's not because of their race, it's because of Chinese culture. There's a very predominant "the ends justify the means" lesson that's instilled in most Chinese people. Like, people FROM China. Not people who are ethnically Chinese. That being said, I personally haven't actually seen anyone ragging on Black Myth Wukong for being Chinese. If someone has a problem with the game being Chinese (in an ethnic sense. modern China has no bearing on the story) then that's a racist viewpoint. But let's not act like China as a country isn't flawed, and majorly so. If you want to get an idea for how much kool-aid Chinese regime supporters drink, I suggest browsing r/Sino. Upsetting place, really.
One of the things I thought was the coolest recently... is if you use Pluck of Many against Yellowbrow in his second phase... he'll turn them against you.
One of the fun parts that i noticed, is if you have trouble with a chapter boss (bear, and wind sage at least) you clear the hidden mission and you get the ability to nullify their element. You can literally turn the wind sage's wind off by doing the side story about the beetle.
In China we call them Dingfengzhu and Bihuozhao. In the book, they are treasures that Wukong borrowed from the heaven when he couldn't beat these yaoguai. It's so interesting to use them again in the game to restrain the boss.
@@JasonTom-o8z This is why I enjoy the game so much, there's depth and lore in every little part of the game. Feels like a lot of games nowadays lost the point that it's about telling a story. I would love to see the studio put out more mythological games with this level of detail.
This game is the second since Cyberpunk which made me so happy to be able to run the highest settings on 120fps. Purple cloud mountain was definitely my favourite zone in terms of visuals.
I bought it last night and I love it, I was kinda skeptical because some reviews were talking about the controversy around it but honestly put that aside I love the graphics, I love how smooth the controls feel and I love how cinematic it puts into the gameplay.
Watching Charlie's playthrough was super enjoyable, wish to see more of it. I remember he did that with LA. Norie, but never uploaded the end of the game here.
The game is inspired by a character from a book written somewhere in China from the 1500s, called "Journey to the West". The lore is awesome in my opinion.
I got the game a few days ago and I am on Whiteclad noble. I don’t normally play soulslike games and it’s a bit of a learning curve for me. Even with the fact I’m struggling with figuring it out very early in the game, I’m STILL in love with it!
It's extremely soulslike. Souls games are much easier though, there ain't no one shotting bosses on this or shields to save yo ass. It forces you to get good but then eventually gives you all the tools to make it somewhat easy. It's imbalanced quite a lot in that way, the start can be tough, then it's a complete breeze, when I say breeze I mean only a few attempts to beat a boss rather than 15-20
the secret ending boss is the hardest in the game and one of the hardest i've ever beaten, can't wait to see you fight this masterpiece of a secret ending it is.

@@lajeunesse7988 there's story (telling) and then there's lore. Going out of your way to pick up neat information through codex's is lore. The face value narrative presented to the player is the storytelling. I can agree to some extent about the story telling being "off" for lack of better words.

I read all the journal entries for all the enemies and characters. The short stories are superbly written. The lore is very good.

Very insightful, thank you! I watched Journey to the West as a kid but it was too long ago I can't recall all the details.

Yeah most of Journey to the West is the unkillable super strong Sun Wukong asking deities for help.
I kept getting stun locked by the rays. Such BS. Beating that boss made me so happy

Regarding the Yellow Wind Sage, there's actually a questline for an NPC where you can get a Vessel to get rid of the Sand Tornado
Start at the Rockrest Flat, and go in the direction of the Rock Vanguard, but go past that.

Exploring their culture this close was awesome
@@thefourthrabbit9516 agreed, 100%
I believe speaking out about such things is most effective when done with integrity and polite, mature dialogue.
I feel like people only support black myth wukong because it fits their anti woke narrative, or else it is just a “piece of Chinese trash” for them
When discussing this topic it's very, VERY important to draw a distinction between talking about China the country, and Chinese the race.
I’m surprised there wasn’t more praise on the graphics. This game is stunning. Especially fighting in the clouds that part is amazing
