I enjoy these posts about using up scraps. I’d love to see one on how to store and catalog those bits and pieces we want to hang on to for repairs and such.
I learned alot from this video. I have been knitting for about six decades, so, when I learn something from a video, it is a good video. You never are too old to learn something. Just pay close attention.
Fantastic idea!! I made a really cute Rainbow wall hanging out of yarn a few weeks ago for my UA-cam channel and now I have a ton of yarn left I’d like to use it on something. I came across your video looking for ideas and I’m inspired by you. Thank you for teaching me a new idea. I’d love it if we can learn more from each other!
I adore scrap projects. I did the mitered square blanket but did it with worsted weight. Its my "couch blanket". I have made a bunch of Losy hats (free pattern on Ravelry) and a couple of scarves/shawls. Then there are Frankensocks.
One thing I have done with scrap sock yarn is to hold a strand of it with a strand of worsted weight yarn to make a hat. It sure creates a completely different colorway!!
I made something really unusual with mine , I made little Tabards for Rescue Battery Caged Hens , who had been rehomed , and they had very few feathers , when they finally were released from years in cages to give us all cheaper eggs !! After these hens were given new free range garden homes and went on to spend many more years happy and healthy with their rescuers and hopefully my little pretty colourful tabards helped keep them warm and cosy until their new feathers grew iback again , so remember folks , always buy free range eggs and prevent cruelty to hens !!! Enjoy knitting with all your scraps , Happy Christmas to all !!

I'm just getting into knitting socks but have other scraps that I can use up. By the way, thanks for your customizable toe-up socks videos & pattern. I made a pair of DK socks. Now I'm making my first fingering weight pair without a pattern. I feel so empowered so Thank You! 🤗

I’ve used scraps in the past to make a shawl where I increased then decreased half way through. I simply weighed all the scraps and then determined my half way point by keeping a watch on the weight of the yarn I had left.
Thanx Jana. I never thought of measuring the yarn around anything. I wind small amounts around my fingers counting turns, at the same session. Then I line them up for 2 mostly matched striped shorter socks. Knitting another soon leaves little leftover.
I have always wanted to learn how to make a crochet scrap blanket with my sock yarn. But I just can’t get the hanger of it. But someday I will. I did start a lovely mitered square “pillow” but I couldn’t see making an entire blanket at that gauge!
I attach my info to mini-skeins with a safety pin: amount of yarn, maybe brand name. I've made 5 pairs of MonsterSocks (see Ravelry group) with leftovers.

I'd knit myself a left or right twist scarf and call it a crazy twistie. If I have a lot of left overs, I knit and then sell. Its very convenient to have left overs to let your imagination run absolutely crazy
Oh, some lovely scrap yarn ideas there! Another one I'm currently enjoying is the Memory Keepers Shawl (and also a hat pattern) by Lina Knits on Ravelry
I’ll tell my daughter ;) As for figuring yardage by weight, there are a couple of things you can do. If you know what the yarn is, you could look it up on Ravelry to determine how many yards a full skein was. For example the BMFA Socks that Rock that I mentioned, is 405 yds and 170 gms. So if you have a gram scale, you can weigh your tidbit and do the math. If you have no idea what the original put-up was, then you'd need a yarn balance scale. I like the idea of the Russian join, but, I am very allergic to wool. Don't think it will work with acrylics, etc., or with other natural yarns. I will experiment and see what happens.
Or you could watch a video on how to make puff flowers and how you can do join-as-you-go. Buh-lieve me, if you can nit, you can darn sure do this it...is so easy and so fast compared with knitting hexagons and stuffing them and sewing them and all.. all the... Oh no! This is much easier! It's a lot of looping yarn and then pulling yarn through to make a little slip stitch, and then you're off to making your next pedal and closing it with a stitch and so on and so forth and it's some point you join it with any flower that you already made and you just keep going like that. You actually don't even know how to crochet to do this you could probably even work it out with your knitting needles but why?... you could just use a hook.

I make crazy pattern scrap socks but cut each scrap in half. I get perfectly matched wild socks!

I use my leftovers as Christmas ornaments and sometimes I match them up and make a mini blanket for a doll.

I made my first pair of socks for my grandson the other day but only on 2 needles. They are so cute!
You can also knit socks with the scraps and keep adding yarns until you run out of yarn. Pretty simple.

There is about 50 yards of yarn per ounce for worsted weight. I weigh mine on my digital kitchen scale.

I make crazy colored toys for my dachshunds and neice with leftover yarn. Flowers for the baby and just shapes for the dogs.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your point of view, I have enough sock yarn leftovers for a number of scrappy projects!
A niddy-noddy will also help you with your count.

I've done the Russian join many times with acrylic yarn. Give it a try!

I used some of my scrap yarn to make hats, scarves, coasters, blankets for my nieces dolls or stuffed animals, ect.
The Bee Keepers.... If you don't have enough for the blanket... fill them with beans.. to make bean bags for toss games.

It was a paid subscription to a sock club. Sometimes, with the shipment, they included a mini-skein.
I put them in a bag and just pull out random balls\colors...
