What a cool idea! This is called 'Log Cabin' in the quilt world, I've made many quilts in this kind of pattern. I love the idea of doing it in crochet. I do not have many scraps, but could buy whole skeins of new yarn. Thanks!
I am a brand new crocheter and I found this to be the most helpful tutorial I’ve found for just having fun and making something while I learn. This is so great… thank you so much for sharing this. It’s so unique and the perfect project for me.
Love this idea!! Most people wouldn't think it, but single crochet will use up more yarn than longer stitches. If you wanna eat your stash, use single and half double. Yarn will go more bang for the buck on double and treble crochets, so you can adjust your stitches according to how much scrap you have of a color!! Thanks for the inspiration!! Ps: I tie my tails, too!!
If you are trying to 'square' up an uneven line, you could single stitch to the part where it indents a little, then double stitch to the end to even out the row.
Thank you Thank you Thank you, for doing something with scarp yarn. I have SOOOOOOOO many that I have no idea what I can do with them all! NOW I know! Thank you thank you!!
Great idea! I had a similar idea 2 days ago and I started to turn all of my scraps into a blanket - but every rectangle a different size, a different stitch (crochet and knitting mixed) and another color. It will be an adventure :D
Wow this is so cool !!! I am going to try and make a few lap blankets and then take them to a retirement home this Christmas. I'm so excited to get started 👍
So very beautiful and creative! I had thought about this, yet had not tried it. Your tutorial is delightful, informative, quiet and calm and easy to understand. I absolutely enjoyed watching and have given you thumbs up and subscribed. Thank you for sharing 💚☮️💫
I took small balls did invisible join to add another and continued until I had a big ball that I could barely hold and I started aripple stitch to teach myself from what my grandmother had told me but when I got the bla ket done my dad claimed on me and took it home to put it on his couch
Great tutorial! Do you think it would work to just keep going? Just keep turning to make one giant square. Maybe you addressed this, and i missed it. If so, i apologize
I'm still learning. Did you start with a foundation chain? Are you using single or doubles stitches? Do you always chain one before you flip your work? Sorry. I'm lost.
Hi. You can do whatever stitches you want as long as you keep each section squared up if that makes sense. For example, if you had 9 rows of sc and then turned to work the side it would get 9 stitches, but working in hdc you might need to add a stitch or two to keep your section square.
Yes. If you use different weights of yarn you’ll probably have thick and thin sections that are different sizes. But, what you can do if you want to use up different weights is hold a few strands together to make a new weight. So, if you have mainly #4 weight yarn, but some #3, you can hold 2 strands of #3 to make #4. This is not always true depending on your yarn, but can often work.
Would have been nice for you to tell us how many stitches you started with I know you can start with as many as you want but I wanted to know how many you started with
Hi. Thank you for the feedback. I don’t use UA-cam for full patterns or videos but rather just to help with my free blog patterns. Here is the blog post if you want to see more: www.theburgundybasket.com/you-me-and-the-abcs-crochet-abc-toys-q-is-for-quilt/
You have to make sure you are working even on each side. What I do instead of making sure I have a perfect count is keep working and lay it down flat to make sure it’s flat and not going off on any angles. If for example you have 10 rows and want to work down the side of those you should have about 10 stitches.
Genius! It's like a log cabin quilt. I love scraps of anything.
I LOVE this idea. It’s just like a patchwork quilt. Wow.
I’m gonna give it a try!
Thanks for showing us.

Yes, definitely
It was the log cabin quilt, I believe
I'm still learning. Did you start with a foundation chain? Are you using single or doubles stitches? Do you always chain one before you flip your work? Sorry. I'm lost.
Can I do one row as single crochet and one row as half double crochet?

@@theburgundybasketkristiber1494 thank you ma'am
How would you do a single crochet patchwork blanket
I would do it just like in the video ❤️
Should the different colour yarns all be the same weight, ie, all dk or all aran or all chunky?
It would look best with all the same weight.

Need written pattern
All of my patterns are usually on my blog written out, but this is more of a free form project.
