The five reasons given in the video for leaving America and retiring early to Southeast Asia are:
1. His wife is from Southeast Asia
2. The spirituality and pace of life in Southeast Asia
3. Less consumerism and materialism in Southeast Asia
4. Disillusionment with corporate values and focus on profits over people in America
5. Prioritizing his physical and mental health
Thank you for summarizing! 🙏
Hahaha. Everyone in South East wants to get rich. They are spellbound with Wealth and worship the Chinese crazy rich Asians. So no nonsense. You there for cheap living and poon!
I'm just turned 51 and in about 4 more yrs roughly at 55 and Laos here I come
That’s great! Congratulations!
Laos. Lol. You guys are nuts. You won't last 2 years in Laos.
One year down, and loving life in Laos. Crazy like a fox! 🦊
@@retire_recharge_roam you be out of there with few years. You will eventually will go insane there watch ....you will first leave Laos and go into Thailand for more civilization. Then that will get to you. And if have the $$$ you will start spending half or most of year in West.
I left Los Angeles after an early retirement from Telecommunications. I just retired to Udon Thani.
We spent some time in Udon Thani just recently. Great place! Congrats on your retirement. Thanks for watching our channel!
Two reasons I live in America: Getting an education and making money. When I am done, I retire in SE Asia. I love Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia. People are polite.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Totally agree.
Really enjoyed your talk. I’m a 58-year-old American living in Hawaii with my Taiwanese wife. Hope to retire someday in SE Asia, and I enjoy watching UA-cam presentations from retirees already living there. We’ve got at least another decade before we can consider this seriously, so trying to keep it young!
Thanks for watching! We spent some time on the Big Island in Kona a while back…lovely place. Here’s to keeping it young!
I retired at 55 in 2011. The push was the very significant technology changes in our workplace that essentially was going to make me and my engineering group obsolete. The pull was the generous pension plan that was available to me at that age. I decided it was more desirable to retire than to start over at work. I moved to Thailand in 2017.
That sounds amazing! Sounds like you navigated the transition from work to retirement well! Cheers!
Are you happy living in Thailand? Which part of Thailand do you live?
Wow, enjoy your retirement!…. I’m from Minnesota too..
Thanks for watching! Hope all is well in the land of 10,000 Lakes!
I’m so happy to hear that you love ❤️ Laos. I love Laos too.
Laos is a great place to retire!
As a Thai retiree in England so it’d be interested to see more options. I’ve been watching a lot of foreigners settling for retirement in Thailand. I thought it would be interesting to see your channel to see lifestyle in Laos. Good for you to retire at your age so you can enjoy life more rather than waiting until you hit 66 because as you get older, you’ll have health issues. I bet your wife is very happy to be back home! Happy retirement…
Thanks for commenting! We’ll be back in Laos in a couple weeks and look forward to sharing more on Lao lifestyle. 🙏 🙏
You make some great points, thank you and happy retirement! Keep up the good work on these videos!
🙏 🙏
Very well said
🙏 🙏
Wow 49…. Congrats 👏👏👏
🙏
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m very close to doing the same. Corporate America is getting very stressful. I believe you made the best decision which I’m considering soon. Don’t think I can wait till 65 to get social security. Keep your awesome videos coming! 👍
Glad to hear you’re going down your path! Best of luck to you!
So is corporate 🇨🇦 things are soo corrupt and dirty I can barely tolerate it they say they are an equal opportunity employer yeah right 90% nepotism and hard to tolerate favoritism people on the gravy train while others get dragged through mud daily
And this is a large reputable employer
Be I plan on making it difficult for them when I do go 🫡🫡🖕🖕😅🤣🤣
I would rather be poor ( chill and drink a tea with my family and friends), than work all day like a slave
I hear that! 🙏
In process. Thank you for your reasoning for leaving the states. All of it makes sense and I too an am attracted to the Faith of Thailand. I wish you and your wife the best and am grateful to see you arise on UA-cam. 🙏🏻
🙏
Very informative, thank you!!!
Thanks for watching!
Very cool Café. I love seeing your adventures. Please keep doing them.
All your reasons for early retirement is the same as ours as well. Especially for me wanting to return home to Laos. Hopefully the kids will be independent and see the globe as an adventurous path to explore. Husband is already retired but I have to work until 55. 2027 here I come!!!
Ah, that’s so exciting for you. 2027 will be here before you know it!
Wow the view looks so cool..raining season coming 🎉
Yes, rainy season is coming! Finally start cooling things off, hopefully.
Thumbs up 👍
🙏
I’m so happy for you bro 😎 continue doing what you’re …….
🙏 🙏
Congrats!

Awesome! Welcome to the channel!
I plan to retire in Laos. It is less expensive than the USA
Yes, it is quite a dramatic difference in cost of living!
Thanks for watching.
I just start subscribing to you video. I plan to retire early at 53 and move to Thailand..Jomtien early next year. I lived in California for 38 years and too much stress at corporate and live to work in this country not able to enjoy life here. I really hate the fast pace life here. Anyway, may I ask how much does it costs for you to retire in Thailand?. I know this is depend on an individual lifestyle question. However, my plan budget will be between $1,500 - $2,000 per month and I wonder if it is enough to live comfortably. I do not drink but like to travel around Thailand. Please let me know. Have a wonder time there.
Congrats on the major life decision! It sounds like you’re in the sweet spot of a comfortable budget. I would advise also having an emergency fund tucked away for any 1-time costs that may come up separate to your monthly living expenses. Thanks for joining our channel! We’ll be sharing our cost of living over the past month in Thailand and comparing to Laos. I’ll also recommend a couple other favorite channels with helpful info on Thailand: RW4U youtube.com/@rw4u?si=ILFXSIsXFNmRCJiW

Good luck!
$1,500 - $2,000 would be a minimum range in Bangkok, Thailand. Outside of Bangkok you should be able to live comfortably with that income. You should have savings as well, say at least $100,000, for one time expenses or emergency expenses. Make sure you fully understand the visa and visa expenses that you will use. Have a plan for healthcare here.
I just can’t retire to a place that is hot and humid. I’m thinking Eastern Europe.
Thanks for sharing. I’ve heard there are some great places in Europe to retire comfortably.
I am planning to retire in the Philippines or Thailand too next year at the age of 50 years old
That’s a solid plan! Congratulations on making the decision, that’s the first step to an exciting next chapter of life!
Been living in Saigon VIetnam since 2015. Much happier than NYC
We’re planning on visiting Vietnam within the next year…heard great things about it. Cheers!
You are the smartest engineer in San Antonio.
Retired at age 49, how many people could have done it in your generation? Not too many or not at all. I retired at age 55 I thought I did a good job in my generation and I’m 63 now and enjoy my retirement every second of it. Hope we can have some LaoBeer together one of these days 🍷🍷
Cheers, and congrats on your retirement!
Hello, I am thinking of moving to SE Asia. I have a question regarding how to manage bank and brokage accounts in the USA. Do you have any experience in this?
I’m not qualified to give financial advice, but I’ve heard most expats leave assets in their home country. You should probably discuss with your financial institution to make sure no problem with transfers from abroad. Depending on your visa requirements (if Thailand), you may also need to have money deposited in a local bank account.
Thinkn bout the same in just over a yr @ 60 here in 🇨🇦 with one cpp and pensions I would do a lot better than in 🇨🇦 Cheers 🤟🤟
I think you could leverage cost of living quite a bit better! And if you miss those Canadian winters you can always go back for a visit. Cheers!
@@retire_recharge_roam good joke 😁😁😁thx
Moving to Thailand in 2 weeks from the USA. 2 reasons. Cost of living as a retiree and I love the people and culture.
I love the US, it was a good place to raise a family and earn a living. But it is changing rapidly and I'll pass.
The last 4 years I lived in the 40-ft motor coach and traveled all over the US to every state. But Wisconsin and Minnesota and I went into Mexico multiple times as well. But it can be expensive and once my dog died I didn't want to do it alone anymore.
Yeah it's hot there but I have arthritis and it makes it better in the heat. Yeah there are other problems there but to say that and ignore the ones here makes no sense. These guys questioning your motives above? That's another good reason to Leave. The politics and the split of American society into left and right. I think I'll pass. Too old and tired for that crap. Enjoy your retirement man. You earned it.
Thanks for sharing your words of wisdom. It sounds like you’ve thought through your move and are ready for a big change!
We had a motorcoach for about a year, and it was a blast. Good luck on your big move!
Did you sell your house and all your possessions in America?
Yes, we sold everything we couldn’t pack in our 7 suitcases and moved from America to Asia. It was part of a 5-year plan we had been working on, but still quite the experience letting go of everything in the end.
Man the food's making me hungry! 200baht?
Where else can you can get sushi and a drink for 200 baht? The best airplane food I’ve had! Take care, man!
I agreed with everything you said 😊similar reasons why I left America.
Thanks for sharing! Good to hear we’re not the only ones!
How about just a simple, I moved because I am happy living this was and I am content with what I have and get living in this part of the world. Going on and on criticizing the USA is only a reflection on you and not the USA or Americans, in fact it only shows how hard you're trying to self auto-suggestion to make yourself feel good about your decisions. I know that part of the world very well, some might say too well, and if I want to, i can write a book about all that 's bad about living in that area of the world.....but I don't, because it is my opinion and my view, and a reflection of my experiences.
Everyone’s story is different. I’ll always love the US, but for retirement SE Asia is the right choice for us. Thanks for watching.
I don’t understand these reasons. Consumerism? Nobody is holding a gun to my head to participate in it. I have avoided it with no problem for years. 24-hr news cycle? Give me a break! Can’t you learn to turn off the freaking TV? Do you really need to move to a different continent to avoid this? Have you no self control? For some reason you couldn’t manage to find a place to hike or exercise in the US? Are you serious?
Everyone has a different perspective. Thanks for sharing yours.
