Davinci Resolve 18.6 is upon us!! Here is what's new. There's too major in this but I figured i'd run through some of the updates so you don't have to figure them out for yourselves! Enjoy :)

We really are lucky to have these "Davinci Resolve" youtubers/ambassadors.
Every single one brings so much knowledge. I really think it's the reflection of Blackmagic Design's (and mostly grant perry) "openness".
And we're lucky to have viewers like you too!!
I do think the mentality of Blackmagic rubs off on us. We all like to follow their footsteps in the way we run this stuff 🙂

Honestly, there is something good coming from Grant and his philosophy.
Every time I watch his presentation, I can really feel how much he cares about their products and how to treat their customers. I never saw a big company beign like that...especially adding new software to old hardware.
Man, it's so refreshing.

@@trignite Many changes, bug fixes, and little features are very often NOT mentioned in the change logs. You would know that if you were a Davinci Resolve for many years. MrAlexTech Thank you for keeping us up to date. I go back and forth between different NLEs for different clients. Not to mention learning new camera systems, menus and all of that without even factoring in the creative side ( a lot of input every week/month). This is AWESOME! the cloud storage is HUGE, I work and collaborate with remote editors and although Resolve Cloud is great, the file management was a pain and sometimes proxies were identified as original files and it was a hassle to relink properly. With cloud storage (I hope) that will be resolved.. resolved (no pun intended LOL)

Thank you for this Alex. Adding timelines to the render queue from the edit page is massive! Usually I’m creating a seperate timeline and dragging all my timelines in to batch render them. But this can have all kinds of issues so I’m glad they fixed this.
Yea. I did a few “exercise databases” and had to export 100 timelines. This is epic!
@@mribi Oft... that sounds like a nightmare on the old version! I can't imagine having to QC 100 timelines that might have weird render problems haha
There's a huge bug with this update when using multicams and importing timelines. When you do either and ripple delete a clip it takes forever and the audio becomes un synched.

Thanks for the update Alex, just a heads-up for everyone looking into updating to 18.6
1. Audio of your project could sometimes be out of sync completely especially if you have multiple tracks on the timeline rendering your project useless just like i experienced
2. Playback becomes very laggy especially when you color grade or use 4K footage even after rendering it as a compound clip
3. Keyboard shortcuts take a second to happen from the time you press the shortcut, it is a subtle delay but you can defiantly feel it as it wasn't there in 18.5
I'm sure the devs are working on fixing these bugs, but i wouldn't advise anyone to upgrade until they are fixed, at the moment (at least imo) the cons outweigh the pros for this one, especially when you take into consideration that your library upgrades with different versions, but does not downgrade
I've seen a few similar mentions but it seems like a relatively contained issue as i've got 18.6 running on 3 seperate devices with no issues at all. No shortcut or playback lag etc, all graded 4k footage on a 4k timeline too. In fact, I've literally just recorded a 20 minute video talking about how smooooooth it feels, especially some of the Resolve Specific features. So it's a weird one! I'm running on both Mac and Windows too with no issues,
@@MrAlexTech could be a specific set of variables that makes it act up the way it did for a lot of people including myself, hoping for a quick fix from the devs 🤞

100% agree, I'm regretting upgrading at this point, cutting, deleting or just moving clips around are causing them to not have sound or have sound out of sync. I'm restarting the app to fix it and that works but having to do that every time I want to move a clip is killing my work.
@@reload54I'm not sure if this could be related at all but have you tried disabling all proxies in the new "automatic create proxy" button to see if this helps? I was having some lag now as well, and disabling this option seems to have fixed the issue for me.
This button is on the edit page it is between the Bypass Color Grade button and the timestamp, on the top right corner.
Appreciate the video. The Fairlight page did add one FX, the Loudness Meter.

Exporting render settings is gonna be great for people trying to get things working - stuff like alpha issues, long renders, etc.

I have noticed that the dreaded "Speed Warp" Motion Estimation under "Retime and Scaling" works waaaay faster than before, at least on my RTX 3080.

It's so hard to pick one Davinci Resolve G.O.A.T. when they all cover certain aspects that are all so important. I was going to start naming some but I'm sure there are some others who've come along that I haven't had the good fortune of learning from as well. Great jobs!
I think that now you can transcribe a series of clips, instead of going one on one. Just though of it, updated Davinci, and saw it was possible. a Blessing

Do you have a video or would make one where you explain multiple timelines and how we'd use them in a practical way? I don't know if I could just have another timeline up and make a vertical video at the same time as a standard or work on something on the side and just drag it into the main one to have less mess. Either way I'm looking forward to more stuff!

This may seem like a stupid question but, how do you update without installing a whole new version? Or does it uninstall the old one automatically? And does it affect your existing Projects?
Hi Alex, thanks for your video! Although I have experienced a quite annoying bug after the update: the ripple cut/delete, the start/end to playhead tools (which is set for a keyboard shortcut for me) are insanely laggy. I loved the smoothness of these tools, but now they have a longer second to execute (I noticed that it depends on the length of the clip). //M1 Pro 16GB//
Do you experience it, or do you know the solution for this? Should I change something in the settings? Thanks!

great info! Is there a way to have the clips in vertical on a side so it covers more area? I can't find a way to do it. I always edit vertical format but the clips appear too small. It would be cool to be able to stretch them all the way down on the left.
Hi Alex..Is there a way to keep the play head static in the middle of your timeline? eg. when you press play, instead of the play head moving, your timeline moves and your play head is always centered. Thanks for your vids...great job..👍👍
First off, thanks a lot for your videos. You're really helping me learn a lot!
I just upgraded to the 18.6, and the undo does not restore the playhead to the previous position. Did they get rid of that feature after all the complaints from the power users? Or is there a setting that I need to do to make it do that? I would really like for it to go back to where I was when I do an undo.
Have you had any audio playback problems? I just love the fact that I added a quick button to toggle on and off proxies
@mralextech are you finding that the audio transcription feature in 18.6 is sometimes grabbing waaayyy to much blank space even if it doesn't show [...]? I keep having it pull 1-3 seconds of blank before the section i'm highligting

I tend to carry an M.2 sled with me that's got a 1TB EVO 970 drive in it. I connect it via usb C to my laptop or Desktop and use that as my current option to move between my devices. For me that works really awesome. I can edit directly off it with about the performance of an internal SATA SSD or quickly move those files to my internal storage temporarily for higher performance.
This isn't always the best solution and certainly isn't for everyone as I understand not everyone carry's their backpack around everywhere like I do. It is currently the best solution for me as I tend to edit with no internet connection quite often.

Yeaaah tbh that's what I was doing too. I used to just do a project archive onto SSD when switching across.
Then BM cloud appeared so I use that for my projects, and just put the media on SSD.
But then I started working with someone else as well, so invested in a cloud storage solution and have been using that since.
And now I guess I'll have to move again to BM cloud storage 🤣
Similar for me. Basically for quick switching between machines.
But also to eliminate mechanical drives completely from each project workflow (which eliminates the needless pauses caused by drive spin ups).
@@_Oregon_Sunday_Drives_360 100% buddy. I have only one spinning drive anymore, an 8TB drive for recording. I dump it to an ssd before trying to work on it though

As far as I'm concerned, there aren't enough colors and it kind of bothers me. I hope it happens in one of the upgrades.
