Indeed, couple with how these programs are very feature-rich and thus have big learning curves. What matters in the end is that the program can consistently do what you ask of it.

@@noisycarlos You got the right mindset tho. Most people come to a different software and expect it to work exactly as the one they're coming from, like this video's uploader. That's a problem every software company has - users who want to change the software because of changes in price or policy usually don't want to change anything in their own behaviour. They *expect* that if you create a product in the same category that it behaves exactly like the one they used to use. Honestly - we should all be more vocal towards these people and tell them to stop behaving like a friggin baby.

@freakyco1dz id rather feed my balls to a vending machine bill collector than give Adobe more legitimacy.
Even if you steal it everytime you Google "how do I... In Adobe" your giving it another user.
Meanwhile the alternative listens to it's customers. Provides access to people that need it. And needs the support to put Adobe in its place and create a fair competitive space for Adobe to become better.
Stealing isn't helping. It's just not making it worse.

This while ignoring the fact that, Resolve, if you know what you're doing, is much better than Premiere and half-After-Effects. Adobe, in no shape or form, is better than the alternatives. I'm still paying for After Effects, because I recognize it has no real alternative for the kind of work I do, but that's it, everything else it's just worse. SPECIALLY PREMIERE.

I've been a resolve editor for years after switching from premiere. it was definitely a bit of a learning curve but now I'm completely accustomed to resolves default shortcuts. it seems like you're trying to apply effects in the same manner as premiere which isn't always the best option. its much easier and you'll have more control when doing motion graphics or any sort of movement effect in the fusion tab. it also includes simple 3d rendering which is essentially after effects and premiere all in one software. it's not very intuitive to do any of the zoom ins, digital pans, or any cropping in the edit tab because of how clunky the key frames are. fusion nodes are intimidating at first but allow you to see key frames, spline, and automatic motion blur, and a lot more tools not accessible in the edit tab. I used to be very intimidated by the nodes in fusion, but after getting over the learning curve, my workflow has been seamless. hope you continue to use davinci resolve because it's so worth it!!

@@TheKidler77I just started video editing a few months ago and can say you just have to dive into it. I had never edited before that in resolve and had very limited experience with premiere pro. Resolve took a bit to get to where I can pretty comfortably edit without having to constantly look for something but it wasn’t super hard and I ended up learning so much in a small amount of time. Don’t worry if it doesn’t initially make sense because Casey Faris and Mralextech make great videos on pretty much everything you need to know.

Honestly it's quite infuriating seeing you forcibly apply the same exact workflow on a completely different piece of software. It seems to me like, instead of treating it as an alternative, you're looking for a clone of premiere. I'd first try to experience it with default features and keybinds, with a really slow initial workflow, and then adapt it to my needs. This way you'll end up learning ways to do things which might be faster, or better than in the app you're trying to replace.

the "laggy timeline" issue you had is actually just becuase davinci resolve is finnicky about where you grab the slider. You just need to grab it at the very top and it'll be smooth. The tools also have keybinds, so switching between them is actually pretty easy. The sequence B + M1 + A for example will place a cut where your mouse is. I find this approach much nicer than having to reach for alt, ctrl and shift keys all the time. I feel like if you're going to review davinci resolve you should also start of with the default settings. You look up keybinds, and then are surprised they don't work when you've chosen a different keyboard layout.

    Few things:
Resolve works with databases, so it would be more protected during a crash or file corruption, unlike premiere which works by having random project files locations like you showed but suffers poorly with file corruptions.
The timeline lag often can be caused due to different codecs being heavier than others, not a problem for me, but it may vary.
The audio mixer in the timeline is small, but you can click on the mixer button at the top right to get a much better meter, even better than premiere pro.
Needing to remove, the mouse click only applies for ripple delete, but is not necessary for ripple start or end to playhead.
Instead of needing to click somewhere else to grab the playhead, just pause and then move the playhead.
Doing freeze-frame or transform effect feels slower than premiere to you is because you haven't even opened one of the most powerful panel of resolve which is the inspector panel which has everything about a clip.
Well Resolve has guides, next to the time code, but there's no way to do custom guides yet.
Also, instead of manually cutting and adding transitions, you can do your editing first and then select the clips and apple the default transitions much quicker IMO.
If you want it to search everywhere when you are looking for an effect, click on the arrow next to the magnifier and change to all folders from current folders.

Premier can suck ahh , I had to redo 3 hour long projects because adobe with new premier update disabled auto back and then they removed names from audio file , resolve was pain at begining but then it all made sense and it is quite faster than premier especially footage stabilizing and smart ai masking stuff

Also the free version isn't as great as most lead you to think. You don't get hardware acceleration for exports which leaves you with pretty big file sizes. Keypad +, Keypad 5 then Keypad Enter will jump forward 5 frames (or any amount) - use the minus key to go back. On Avid you can press +5 Enter to go forward 5 frames, then every time you press enter it goes forward 5 again - I don't think Resolve does this. Some tips:
14:30 Yes, it does mean that. It allows you to change the curve of your keyframes.
14:49 These icons on the top change "easing" type (I guess that's how it's called)
26:00 You can also freeze frame in the Inspector tab in "Speed change" menu (snowflake icon)
35:24 In 19th version you now can expand arrow near magnifying glass icon and select "all folders" option in order to search everywhere
36:50 You can double click word "position" or "zoom" to do that (not sure)
37:28 Instead of grid as guides you can use Anchor Point to zoom exactly where you want
43:14 Motion Blur effect is actually available in free version. You can add "Transofrm" effect (yeah, sounds strange beacuse we already have it) from effects to your clip and enable it there OR in the Fusion page add transform node to your clip > animate it with keyframes > then select transform node and in setting check "Motion Blur" (and it's customizable)
43:35 You can customize it using "Dynamic Zoom" parameter in the bottom left corner of your preview window (it's in the same place where transofrm is, just expand the menu)
44:40 You can manually change bitrate using Custom Export > Quality > Restrict to: *set your value
    Hope that helps ;)

I feel like the first mistake you can make with any software is to use shortcuts made for a different software instead of using the native ones. It just messes with your ability to learn the software properly having differences between documentation/tutorials and what you have set. It's also that (usually) all the tons of shortcuts have a reason for being set to what they are that - without having used the software for years - you naturally wouldn't know/understand. I'd like to imagine that usually the developer knows better and I should trust them for these kinds of UX things. In this case I think the difference between you and what the devs thought would be great is that you're still using a mouse. Try to see if you can just not do that. 🤷🏻

I've never had such a hard time watching a video. 90% of your complaints are your own lack of understanding of the software that stem from you trying to force the 'adobe way' on it. DaVinci Resolve isn't Premiere and never claims to be. Forcing the workflow and specific behavior from a completely different program onto another one accomplishes nothing and will obviously slow you down because that's not the way the software was created to be used. If you actually wanted to try the actual DaVinci Resolve experience you should've used the software defaults

If you want to achieve more close to Premiere experience while applying zoom or other stuff with clips you need to do it from the Effects/Fusion page. The way you did it apples your changes to the entire video track, not for the independent clip. Another way is to keep different clips into different tracks but with time you get used to switching to the Fusion page and it allows you to make some stunning effects quicker and easier.

The first start of Davinci always takes a little longer because the program first collects information about your hardware and Davinci optimizes it.
If you have an nVidia GPU, it first determines the performance and optimizes it, which is then beneficial when editing and exporting videos, etc.
Davinci is free in the free version but is also limited in some things, especially when importing and exporting files.
This is only unlocked with the studio version, i.e. the paid version.
But depending on whether it is on offer or which retailer you buy it from, it costs just under €300 to a little over €300, which in the end is still cheaper than the Adobe stuff because it is a lifetime license.

I didnt watch the whole video but some of the main things taht stood out to me were the guides, you can hit ctrl+g and it will add guides that you cant move, but with what you were trying to do, is suggest using the pivot point. The pivot point moves the image as you zoom in, at 0 its still in the middle and everything is centered but when you move the pivot and zoom in then it will zoom into the pivot point. It saves me SO much time.
With the keyframes, you need to reset the transform or turn off all the keyframes not just 1.
With the compound clips, if you need to find it, you can double click the clip, look up above the image (top left above the video) and it will tell you time for that specific clip, allowing you to know where in the compound clip timeline to go to.
it didnt show the keyframes because your clip was "minimized" meaning on the timeline you had it smaller to make more room.
motion blur is achievable in fusion by adding optical flow, and then vector motion blur after, studio is better.
About the timeline moving up, im not sure i havent had that problem, maybe because im on 18.5 but i think maybe because you were holding the playhead from the line and not the triangle
The task manager thing makes sense abt having to end task but normally i only need to wait like a minute max and it reopens fine
also if you dont wanna have to select alt in order to move just one, you can click the chainlink button next to the magnet
the best way to not lag your play back aswell is to go to the top set of buttons, hit playback, cache, render cache, auto
also i do like that when i move the playhead it plays after so that if i want to see the beginning of a clip multiple times without having to play again its nice to just click where i want it to play from again but maybe thats because i do anime edits
also you didnt have a problem manually cutting but Peej Ent has a great tutorial on auto scene cut detection that i feel like you would like
if you want to make a fusion video or a remake on this video i would love to help my discord is sweateyt and im just gonna say somebody has it cracked if you would like. God bless

One negative thing tho is that keyframing is a miserable experience. The ui/ux in the fusion tab is dogwater. Something that should normally be a single click (making all the scale & positions keyframes smooth without them janking out) is a convoluted experience here.

Davinci Resolve its meant to be used with databases/library not independent project files like premier.
Its a better and efficient way of working. All your projects lives in a database and you can create backups of the whole database.

Well I finished watching your video and I see your completely beginner which is fine, welcome to Resolve. And I have good news for you, 98% of the problems you faced has an valid explanation and solution inside Resolve.
If I start making a list of answers it would be very long.
The best advice I can give you is:
"If you want to learn Resolve well, forget everything you know about Premier and keep learning"
They are totally different programs with totally different work philosophies.
Being a professional editor in Premier for more than 6 years and now 4 as a certified editor in Davinci I can tell you that Resolve is 900% more efficient than premier.
If you want to learn I recommend you start with the official Blackmagic training page.
      Cheers

There is temporarily snapping. When you grab a clip and press the snap shortkey, it will snap as long as you're holding the clip. Once you let go, snapping will go back to the previous setting. This also works for temporarily not snapping

I learned the basics of DaVinchi Resolve during my Film & Arts class back in 2021, been using it ever since as it does everything I need for casual video editing.

The most annoyances are probably because you come from Premiere. I started on DaVinci. For example, I wouldn’t want the playhead to stop; this would slow down my process. Also, I think that the DaVinci keybindings work better if you learn them.
Also, DaVinci cuting isnt made to be used by mouse; it works well but it's intended to do most things via keyboard or the special equipment from Blackmagic.

Learned a lot from your video...after watching 20 minutes I was thinking "man this guy is so smart--wish he could be part of DaVinci's team in taking this software to the next level--and I should learn to use hot keys more. New sub

I’ve never used an editing program, da Vinci resolve is so intuitive it’s kinda scary, I still haven’t seen any tutorials and it’s still pretty easy to use.

Once upon a time I paid for Premier for my own personal use. I was frustrated by the lack of options to purchase w/o a subscription, so I installed DaVinci instead and haven't looked back.
You DO NOT need adobe for personal use, and Resolve likely works for almost all business cases as well.

08:50 Maybe, bc DaVinci Resolve 19 is still in beta public. If you want to use the stable one, you need to download version 18.6 instead.
