If you do have the AV1 option, then give that a try! It’s the latest and greatest (and should be better than H.265!)
Can you do a vid on the difference between av1 and 265?
Was honestly annoyed you didn't go over that on the premise that it was a studio only feature. Do you just assume people don't have/use the studio version or something?
@@Skapo Well I think because only the newer higher GPU actually supports Av1 on a hardware level
Will UA-cam convert h265 to h264 when you upload the video? I've seen that stated here and there, but I'm not sure if that's changed now?
@@Skapo chill - the amount of people that have cards capable of AV1 encoding is really limited right now. He also explained that.
I should be going to bed but I'm learning so much here.....yet another awesome tutorial.
Excellent! Thank you! It's great to see you posting again!
Great explanation, thank you for being there for us noobs!!!!
This is by far the best DaVinci resolve tutorial channel on UA-cam
informative videos everytime! very thankful to have come across your channel
That was great! Thanks! You do a great job of walking us through the process. I really appreciate it!
Hi Alex, as always, you provided the most comprehensive, still understandable content on this topic. Thank you! Cheers Martin
Thanks a lot, Alex. I was having some issues with a project I’m doing and before I started asking a bunch of ppl, I decided to have a look, and boom 💥… I have to increase my bitrate number! Very helpful 🙏
AWESOME! As always!
Have a Productive and Healthy Day!
That was a great slab of just the right information about getting to UA-cam. Excellent. Thx Alex.
Thanks for this handy video! It saved me a lot of time figuring out the best settings for UA-cam :)
Happy New Year!
Your videos have been so helpful, keep up the awesome work!!!
Super useful as always. Cheers Alex 👍🏻
Your videos are an absolute godsend to me. Thank you!
Some great tips. Will try this out. Thank you.
Always helpful and in good humor. 👍
you explained EVERYTHING i needed to know clearly and easily. thank you for an amazing video/tutorial :)
Always great information on your channel. Thank you for sharing your tips and tricks they are a huge help!
Awesome, thank you, I knew about the presets, but could never do auto upload to UA-cam. But now I can, as I guess they have changed a few things over the updates. Thank you as always for awesome content and information.
So helpful as always, Alex - cheers man 🙏
Excellent, thank you!
Great video Alex. You rock. Keep up the amazing work my friend. God bless!
Brilliant as always 🙏 learned a lot
Super helpful, thank you!
Thank You Alex ! I needed a good reminder. ⏳
Good stuff! As always learned, stuff and had fun at the same time!
Fantastic tutorial. Thank you SO much.
Great helpful video. Love it!
Thank you Alex. Very helpful.
Well done, Sir. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for making this video very detailed and helped me a lot!
In my latest video I noticed that the quality of my game footage is slightly worse compared to how it looks like ingame
I checked and it was set to H.264
Switching it over H.265 brought forward all of the missing detail, and made the entire composition look so much crisper!
Thank you very much for this video
Thank you so much for the video, very useful information and great explaining everything 🙏🏾📈👍🏽
Thank you so much! This really helped me out! ❤
This is really helpful. Thank you
Mind blown learned again !👍
I shoot all our videos in 1080p, but I upscale everything in DR to 4K for UA-cam. I find the YT compression makes 1080p video look awful! DR does a nice job upscaling so all my source video saves me space and on UA-cam the final render I upload looks much better at all resolutions, so it is a win-win for me. Only my final render file is a bit larger, not all my raw video files.
Thanks for the video! Cheers!
I edit in 1080 and upscale to 4k during render also. I saw a tutorial that said right before the render to change the timeline setting to 4k, but he doesn't mention that in this video. Do you know if that step is necessary?
@@TuesdaysTurn Yes, you absolutely want to change the project to 4K and then render in 4k.
@@dadstalktech Thanks much! I've done several comparisons, and on a HD monitor, I don't notice the upscale much better, but on a 4k monitor, it is night and day. I hate the huge file sizes, but the quality is so much better. So I'll keep playing the game!
I recently started uploading videos and I noticed UA-cam lowers my resolution 😢 thankfully I use davinci and this makes sense to me lol thanks for the tips!
@@DreamyJorg The initial UA-cam version may be at a reduced quality. Check back the next day when the highest quality version may be available.
You just saved my channel, man
Thank you so much!
Great explanation!
Awesome Info. Thanks
thank you!
thanks for this!
You are Awesome!
TOP Alex !!!
Will have to check my settings
Thanks this helped a lot 👍
nice instructions, thx for it
Thank you so much
You're awesome. I learned a 100 things in less than 12 minutes.
🥰
big help!
Thanks for this video, MrAlex! Uploading directly to UA-cam was something I had not contemplated because I like to review the video first. Thanks to you, I now know I can do this as part of the automatic process. Awesome! Now I need DR to allow multiple accounts for us creeps who manage more than one UA-cam channel 🤣
great video. been slightly losing my mind with this stuff thank you for the info
Thanks for the video. I do a lot of mountain biking videos and quality setting under render is something that's always given me issues. I shoot in 4k/30fps on my GoPro. For the quality I'll push the restrict to 250,000. It just seems like a good catch all. Sometimes when I don't push the number so high everything on the sides of the video looks like I just engaged the warp drive on my bike. But doing this it seems to make objects (trees/grass) a bit clearer/more visible on the sides.
I may have to go back in and do some playing around using lower settings. As always appreciate the videos.
For UA-cam with a nice internet connection... I just upload a ProRes export. When I don't have good internet or need to upload quickly, I export ProRes then encode to H264 or H265 in Shutter Encoder using the CPU. I set a CQ quality target of about 18 and the exports look absolutely incredible vs any of the hardware encoded videos.
I find that upscaling is necessary for my motovlog footage because any clips with a lot of motion (i.e. from my motorbike) look awful in UA-cam with blocky-looking video at 1080P when YT streams that video in the AVC1 codec. If I upscale to 1440P or 4K at a decent bitrate, YT streams the video with the VP09 codec which looks loads better 👍 Large files/rendering times are the result, but for me the image quality is worth it.
Thank you❤
Great video as always. Thanks. I'd love to see a video on optimising renders for platforms that need smaller video file sizes (whilst limiting compression they do themselves on that platform) to obtain the best video quality possible, within their size constraints. Examples would be those shared through Facebook messenger (25MB), Whatsapp (16MB), Signal (100MB) and Instagram (650MB
Thank you for the video! I forgot to change 'Render' to 'Entire timeline' on the delivery page, which meant I only got one clip of the video I made. Good tip to make sure it renders the entire timeline instead of just one clip.
Another great tutorial 👍 I do more Instagram reels at the moment and it would be handy to know the optimal bit rate and settings for Instagram reels too 😊
Have you had any issues with recent uploads to youtube using these presets? I'm getting random artefacts on YT, while play back is fine on my Mac... usually uploading h.265 4k at 60k bitrate...
Thank youuu
Thanks
Thank you! i can't believe i almost paid $300 for final cut pro when this helped me do everything needed.
thank youu brother..antony from kenya
Thank you for your tutorial Handsome
thanx!
Quality 👍

Hi, thanks for the stack of very useful videos. In this one you've suggested that you could upscale an existing 1080p timeline to 4k using Custom settings. That seems to work fine but I've noticed elsewhere that others describe from the outset to first set the Project Settings to 3840x2160 or "4k" then drop your 1080p media in as normal and use Superscale. Then Export / Deliver at 3840x2160. But their method may conflict with smooth editing especially on modest workstations obviously.
Many people recommend that in order to obtain a better UA-cam result they always Deliver in 4k even though the actual media is 1080p, apparently because UA-cam uses a superior codec called VP9 if it identifies an upload as 4k.
I realise that you are using a 4k camera anyway. But do you happen to know whether if you use 1080p you can get better results if you go the Project Settings > 4k Superscale route or is the result of simply upscaling in Deliver just as good. I'm using 18.1.2 Studio on an Alienware windows 11 Ryzen 7 5800H RTX3060 32GB 2x SSD's laptop so I could do either method. Thanks.
Answered my own question with some more testing. Saved an existing 1080p Project as a new Project, changed Project Settings to UHD and included Image Scaling > "Scale Entire Image To Fit" for both Input and Output Scaling.
Then selected video files in Media Pool and applied Super Scale 2x with Sharpness on High & Noise Reduction on Medium (n.b. you can't select Super Scale by selecting clips directly in a Multicam timeline).
Delivered UHD MP4 h.265 50,000 kb/s constant bit rate (twice PAL 25fps) with Advanced ticked both Force Settings To Highest Quality and Force Debayer to Highest Quality.
Appreciably better quality than straight deliver without Super Scale especially compared to a normal 1080p uploaded directly to UA-cam.
Takes much longer to render but still lower than real time.
Studio version needed for Super Scale obviously and the GPU being RTX3060 or equivalent probably needed.
Hey, if you're thinking of getting Studio you will love its Voice Isolation function.
@@AshtonLamontPhotoVideo not a lot of replies here, but I'll gladly be the one to say thank you!

Excellent video. I have DR 18 Studio 18.1.3 Build 8 and noticed I don't have a couple of these settings you showed. The first one was in quality. I only have the option to choose "Automatic" but nothing with a drop-down for 'least' to 'best". I also don't have UA-cam options to choose from within Custom Export. I only have the option to go to the UA-cam export profile. They must have changed these in recent versions.
He's got the studio version.
Hi Alex, excellent all your videos. This year I am making videos only in H.265. I think the use of the codec should be promoted. Now a question about video export in HDR, I have seen videos on youtube that indicate to be in 4K HDR for example.
Now, if I make a video in 4K with HDR, is the option to export a Video with HDR in Davinci Resolve only available for the Studio version?
How is this option displayed?
Thanks
If audio quality (eg for music) is important than you should render to Quicktime which allows using uncompressed PCM audio. For music video UA-cam recommends 24bit 44.1 sample rate PCM audio in the video file.
yes this is a feature available only to partners who use UA-cam's Content ID matching system.. edit. although i have uploaded a video with this setting. strangely I was able to upload a video with a .mkv format with h.264 codec. audio was true PCM 24bit. . even though youtube says it wont accept .mkv
Nice
just so you know, h265 has massive licensing issues attached with it which is why AV1 is becoming the standard
Feel sad a little coz not explained GREAT section with "Chapters from Markers" on Delivery page - this do really helpfull Job for you by uploading vid's to youtube.
I have a really big respect for chapters in EVERY Alex's videos 😊👍👍
Great job ever! 🤘🤘
Perfect video. Thanks. What about rendering a clip you will use over and over on youtube but that is not itself a whole video? Is there any reason to render with different settings that that of ones uploads? Higher quality for example? Or should it be kept the same? Liek is there any loss form dropping it on a timeline and rendering it out again with the exact same settings?
Hey Alex what about "network optimization" under Encoder? thanks for the tips
Excellent tips ! I have an unrelated question. I upgrade to the current D.Resolve update and when I open D.R. I only see my saved projects that are saved on my PC harddrive.. I have project saved on an external drive...can I still find these and use this projects.... or are they lost forever? is there an easy fix?
This is great stuff! Is there a way of uploading to a channel you have editor access to and not just your main account?
EZ PZ! Danke!
This is great Alex thank you! It's strange however, why do I not have some of the same options you have? I am on an M1 Ultra Studio with decent power and running the paid Resolve Studio version. The dropdown for Quality>Automatic Best is not available, just "Automatic" Also, for the YT export, Resolve on my computer only goes up to 2K.... Thanks for the help!
Thanks a lot for this video, I did a lot of digging on this topic and found a lot of different approaches and philosophies. But one question: What do you mean by "massive" file size? I exported a 26min 4K Video with your 265 settings and got a file size of about 9GB. Is that ok or too big in your opinion? Thanks again!
Hey MrAlex. I have a question regarding video quality I can't quite figure out.
Is there a significant difference in quality and data loss if I first render my video using h.256 and then upload it to YT than for example if I uploaded it to YT directly using this DaVinchi Resolve feature?
I'm asking this because h.265 did mirracles for me but I'm kinda hesitant to upload my video now because I'm afraid YT will make it look worse after posting it.
Hey Alex, if you're working with BRAW, would you export as DNxHR and then transcode to H.265?
Hello, and thanks for the very informative videos! I'm having a problem I cannot find anywhere. All videos seem to address lagging during render or playback, but the rendered final video is where I'm having the issue. What I mean is, I have zero lag in my games, my original video footage shows absolutely no lag, but when the video gets rendered anywhere, the final video quality shows lag in every second of the video as if the entire game were lagging. I'm very frustrated to the point that I can't even tell you what I'm ready to do to this program. Is there help for this particular problem? Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks again.
In my case H265 is not working....😣
It shows ""Render job failed as the cuttrent clip could not be processed. ""
BTW I have Laptop- HP_Pavelion Ryzen5....
For saving the presets, do you need to save one for each frame rate or will it always automatically adjust the frame rate to your project? (Appreciate worst case you can just change that single setting each time, I'm jus forgetful 😀)
I haven't moved up to Resolve 18 yet.
Is it worthwhile or same/same?
Thanks
This is awesome Alex, but just a question, what if you recorded different clips in different frame rates? is that possible? i found that it crashes out, as what you said in 3:47 you cant alter the FPS?
Ive heard people say that you should use 2 pass encoding to match premieres render quality. Is that actually needed? i feel like the 1 pass is great
What happens if you film in 4k and edit in 1080p what do you recommend rendering with? 4k it 1080p?
i shoot at 1080/30 on my gopro; Question is what should be my proj settings? I was told make it 1080/24 or 25 (lower), or make it same (30fps), or make it 4k/60 (higher than my original settings;) Now im more confused; :( Pls help!
Any idea why a 1080 video would look great on your computer and lose quality once uploaded on YT?
as soon as I uploaded it on youtube the video became grainy and lost detail.
I tried exporting many different settings: from the YT presets, to using several bitrates (up to 80,000 for a 1080 video) I tried upscaling it to 4k and even using Handbrake to have better compression.. the video ALWAYS looks great on computer but loses quality on YT.
i like Casey Farris he makes good tutorials i found him on Kevin stravert's channel!
Ever since switching to Davinci Resolve, my recent videos haven't been getting all of the quality options available. All of the videos exported through Davinci Resolve and fully rendered by UA-cam in SD and HD are missing 240p and 480p. Is this a setting I don't know about or? I have done some digging and many people say it's something UA-cam changed recently for smaller channels to get lower quality but I'm not 100% sure.
Hi there I'm using the paid 18. version and I don't see the rate control etc allowing to choose CBR.. I've seen several youtubers sharing screens having this option, but on my screen I don't have it... Can you please help?
Hey Alex! Thank you for this video and all the others that were very helpful! 😍 I have an issue with my most recent UA-cam upload , maybe you have an idea on what's happening? I used the same rendering settings I had on all the other videos, and yet after upload it looks really shitty, pixelated and just not usable footage. I even came to this video to check if my settings were wrong by any chance, but no, everything is just as you recommend. The version in my computer is crisp and clear, but no matter what I try, upon uploading it to UA-cam, it looks super bad. Do you have any advice you could give? Thank you so much and have a great day!
can you save the render location as a defuault place
Good tips. Does your video loose some quality when you import it to DaVinci Resolve?
What render settings would you recommend for racing gameplay video for UA-cam?
