Hi. Thank you for making this. I'm considering switching from Premiere, and this is exactly what I needed to see.
Sorry for the rare serious comment not about Outback Steakhouse.
Lol... as I was reading it, I was just waiting for something else to happen it never came. I'm really glad that the video was helpful my friend! You know how to get ahold of me if you need help with the switch.
@@dunnadidit There's no Outback Steakhouse in Victoria so I guess we have to meet in Edmonton
That was a very easy and simple way to follow along. Thanks for being so chill and putting out free education for those of us trying to learn every little thing we can 🙏🏽 #DunnaDidIt
Just want to say thanks, I'm a photographer kind of obsessed with colour grading, but very new to video. My exports were looking way different than what they look like in Davinci. I watched a bunch of videos to try to resolve this (no pun intended) and nothing was working. YOU saved the day, they match almost perfectly now, so thank you. You're a legend
This has been by far the best Davinci Resolve 101 video I have seen. I finally downloaded Davinci Resolve to make the switch and have been consuming so many 101 videos but this one is great, especially the discussion on nodes which everyone else seems to shy away from discussing how they work.
Love the workflow and lessons on how to make the flow better and set up presets as the majority of my work for social media tends to be in the same space all the time. #DunnaDidIt
Most useful video I have come across, for somebody switching from Premiere to Davinci: excellent!
I’m ready… I’m ready for an episode that is 3 hours long and is the deepest dive of all time.
We are ready
I've been working with Davinci for several years now, and I'm still learning new things. And today was the first lesson with my student on Davinci Resolve, and thanks to this video I decided on the structure of the first lesson. Thanks #DunnaDidIt 🥳
Switching from Final Cut Pro to Davinci. Appreciate how easy and informative you’ve made it. Will search your channel for more tips.
You have no idea how great the timing of this video is. Recently furloughed from job and am using my time to learn Resolve so appreciate your help! #DunnaDidIt
I've been editing on Premiere Pro for years now but recently have tried to switch to DaVinci because I needed a good and free editing software on my iPad. In my opinion, It's the best editing software available on an iPad right now since it's almost as capable as the desktop version and it's FREE. Now I'm in love with the software and even considering switching to DaVinci Resolve completely. Winning the license to DaVinci Resolve Studio would definitely push me to switch immediately😆 #DunnaDidIt
You are the guy I used Premiere Pro after your video. I was struggling with personal problems, but it was all ok now. Maybe you remember me,I made a weird video for your 100k video content but not even listed anywhere. I have been asking you for ages to make a video like this one. And right now, I have the best guide, tbh. You made me go back to video editing again. How much I thank you is not enough! Huge Thanks, #DunnaDidIt
You clearly put a ton of work into this and for a newbie like me, this is GAME CHANGING! Thank you so much for this. Time to throw PP in the trash lol
I’ve started and stopped on my last 5 videos mostly because I’ve been too afraid of going too far and then not being able to do what I want and have to go back to my old editor to get it done. #DunnaDidIt and made a tutorial that made sense.
I'm glad to hear the video was helpful! Let me know if there is anything else you'd like to see from me!
What a video!!Mate, just switched a day ago into Da Vinci after almost 3 years with Pr your video could not come across in a much better time. I look forward to use it some of my fellow creative mates told me long time ago to make the switch I would say better late than never lol. Lets see how it goes. Salutes from London keep inspiring us!!!Mate😀😀
@@dunnadidit 100%Mate all your videos are helpful.Keep it up the good work!!!We all appreciate it!!Salutes from London!!!😀😌
What a great starting point for me. It’s truly a gem. Thanks a lot. Very helpful
Really appreciate all the Davinci content you’re putting out man! Starting to build my own channel here and contemplating the move from Adobe for editing my videos, this vid may have helped convince me. Cheers! #DunnaDidIt
Davinci rocks! Best move I’ve ever made, having tried both Final Cut and Premiere Pro and being honest Davinci scared me, and that was a mistake as it’s way way more intuitive to use and I got up to speed faster than the other two! Great Video as always .. thanks !
@@dunnadidit you covered months of many other videos I’ve watched, in 30 mins. It’s a true talent !! And thanks for the rec709-a advice, I didn’t know that and just tried it and it’s fixed a problem I’ve had since using it !!!
@@dunnadidit I have spent the last week going back in and re exporting my Videos to rec709-a, what a difference in the colour accuracy !!! You da man !!!
I’ve been using DaVinci for a while now but since Im “self taught” I still watch all the getting started videos and a lot of times I can find a tip or two I didnt know about before. #DunnaDidIt
This video gave me the confidence to start it out. Thankyou for breaking it down. Can't wait to try it out myself now!" #DunnaDidIt

Drinking a lot of water while watching your DVR vids.... This is a great place to start when learning DaVinci.. Shout out from the Philippines.. Still on the process of transitioning to DaVinci Resolve. #DunnaDidIt
@@dunnadidit just finished watching ur last vid about DVR subtitles.. now its easier to do it on my online job.. haha when will u announce the winner?
Such a useful video for those of us trying to create short-form content and making the switch to Resolve. Is there any chance of making a video that shows the basics of editing using Resolve? For example: A simple explanation of how to Cut, Crop, Zoom, transitions, fades, repositioning, adding images and subtitles etc? Where all those buttons and options are etc? Thanks again!
I've been meaning to switch over to Resolve for a while now, and this is kicking it off! #DunnaDidIt
A belter of a video! I’m still on the fence about switching, but feel more comfortable and confident to switch if I need to! #SNACKS! 😂😂😂😂😂😂 LOVE your work D!! LOVE IT!!
Super informative video. I’ve watched a few others and they weren’t nearly as easy to follow as yours. Thank you for the patience and thoroughness! #DunnaDidIt
I was looking into beginning with Premiere or Final Cut and I found out literally everyone is making the switch so I decided to start out with DaVinci! Not gonna lie, kinda scared since it’s super overwhelming at first but this video has been a life saver. Thanks! #DunnaDidIt
I'm so happy to hear that! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions, I'll try my best to help!
I started editing with DaVinci Resolve, switched to Premiere, bought a MacBook Pro and switched to FCPX and now wanna go back to an even better DaVinci Resolve. So thanks for this video #DunnaDidIt
Thanks so much for doing these tutorials, they're so helpful. Not that many people out there doing them, I'm glad you switched over! Keep em coming

I'm blown away by this video! As someone who has been using Premiere Pro for years, I've been contemplating a switch to DaVinci Resolve, and this overview has given me a solid understanding of the software. The interface seems intuitive, and the comparison to other editing software was really helpful. I'm especially excited about the color grading capabilities and Fusion effects. Thanks for the informative content! Keep up the great work!
#DunnaDidIt
(Your color grade is lookin' pretty sweet tho.)
Man, you've been putting out some great Davinci content! I learn something new every time - even though I've been using it for over a year lol #DunnaDidIt
Excellent introduction. Coming from Avid Media Composer & Final Cut Pro Studio, the transition appears to be seamless and look forward to your tutorials as I use the "Studio" version. Thanks!
Some very important things to note if you are using Windows 10 and are unable to upgrade to 11 - AAC audio is fundamentally broken for all exports that use that codec (which is nearly all of the presets!!!) do not use the UA-cam presets instead use quicktime h264 and select PCM audio - Resolve uses the windows 10 AAC codec which cannot handle high frequencies ie in music and anything similar to audio noise, you end up with horrible metallic sounding compression and audio drop outs and the AAC is limited to 173kbs (instead of the 192kbs in the profile) - this is known by Blackmagic and they refuse to fix it (their solution is upgrade to windows 11). Also MP3 is limited to 192kbs and Blackmagic told me they will not pay for licensing for higher Bitrates for windows (on Macs its 320kbs). In general Resolves Deliver options on windows are pretty broken ie Quicktime DNxHD 100 exports with incorrect aspect ratio metadata so you have to use QT DNxHD 145 which are much larger, and MXF OP1A DNxHD has no audio when imported into other editing programs ie Premiere. Resolve also has many audio bugs on export which will cause audio to duplicate (make dialog sound like there are random stutters) or drop channels - this is really annoying as you cannot trust exports you have to watch them through carefully listening for audio glitches.
@@dunnadiditWith all those issues, if I’m on Windows 10, not looking to upgrade, and simply trying to make videos for UA-cam, should I consider a different program?
Thanks!
Thanks for this epic vid Dunna! I'm transitioning to Da Vinci and it was a perfect jump back in! 🤘
Thanks for creating this, I've been procrastinating on truly learning Resolve beyond the Color panel, and now I feel a little more confident just embracing it. #DunnaDidIt
Fantastic overview Dunna, I’m already a user and want to spend more time educating myself on how to use the programme to it’s maximum. All the best. #DunnaDidIt
This was a great all in one tutorial, for such a complicated program you did a fantastic job at simplifying it! #DunnaDidIt for the win!

Thanks for the crash course with DaVinci Resolve! I’ve been learning over the last few months and there’s so much I have yet to learn. I look forward to any audio editing tutorials you may publish in the future. Thanks again #dunnadidit
Great video #DunnaDidIt . Short yet included everything.
Thats the first time I've had someone say that my 30 min video was short haha. I'm glad that it felt that way though! I was worried it would be too long and people wouldn't want to watch.

GREAT OVERVIEW! just what I needed. Can you make a video on color management settings? Theres to many options! Whats best for online distribution? Whats Best for broadcast? Cinema? Netflix? Also I'm really into coloring (im a novice) but still, what are the benefits of timeline color space being DV WG/I? Ive made my last few projects with Rec.709-A color space bc im editing on the studio display, but is that going to look different if someone watches my youtube videos on their tvs? Much Love, Thanks :)
Great suggestions! I definitely want to do a video on that but want to make sure that I have the information down SOLID before I try to pass it on! Make sure you're subscribed and hopefully I'll get to it soon.
I've been thinking of using Davinci more in my workflow then other softwares, and i find this as really good starting point to know what Davinci is. Awesome work. Thanks for the video :) #DunnaDidIt

@Dunna Did It definitely mate thanks. My question is...did the new update put Premiere back on track/make the switch to Resolve less urgent?😁
No idea, my understanding is that premiere still isn’t stable. But I haven’t heard about new updates that might fix that.
@Dunna Did It thanks for this. So can we say that apart from DaVinci Resolve features, the main reason for your switch is better stability?
When Adobe announced they were switching to a subscription model, I quickly bought a student license of CS6 and have been using it for years. I'm finally switching to DaVinci and excited to... (short break to drink my water)... finally be able to handle 4K video, use Fusion, do color grading etc.

Loved the video #DunnaDidIt I just started with Davinci Resolve and this video helped so much.
#Dunnadidit, that was an excellent intro, thank you! (and yes, I did enjoy some high quality h2o, thanks)
rec709-A is very important. if you dont your shadows will look different on export than when you were workin with it!
I wish that there an editing software that combines the file management of Premiere Pro, I love having individual project files for all my projects, the color grading possibilities and some of the pro features of resolve and the ease of use of the FCPX timeline. At the moment, I am really torn in between FCPX and Resolve. I started editing with Premiere back in 2017, it crashed but I was ok with it, I learned editing on that though. Then during covid I kind of moved to Resolve and I liked the fact that it didn't crash that much, it seemed to be slightly faster at exporting. I still was not that huge on color grading but I learned to love Resolve even though a few things weren't exactly as I wanted them. Eventually I moved all my editing to Resolve but then in 2021 I bought a Mac and while I was still editing in Resolve a friend told me to try FCPX. At first I didn't like it but once I got my head around the magnetic timeline and I found out how easy was to install plugin or titles or extra features like that I was sold! The thing I hate the most in resolve(at the time at least) is the fact that if you want to use titles or plugins you have to do weird things like creating a timeline copying and pasting in between timelines the titles. It makes life much more complicated. Although, I really appreciate some of the features the studio version gives like flickering removal. I wish I had it the other day when I had to edit a client video. #DunnaDidIt have you ever edited in FCPX?
Yeah I used FCPX for 3 or 4 months at the start of lockdown. It was not bad, but once I moved on to DVR I couldn't go back to Premiere or FCPX... I really found it to be the best of both worlds. And I haven't really run into some of the problems you're talking about with titles and such.
#DunnaDidIt Your tutorials are direct and helpful. I expect more detailed tutorials in photography also.
I need to do more photography videos... I've been doing so much more video stuff myself that the photo content has been slow lately.
Great Video Dunna, I've been teetering back and forth on which NLE to use. The first few videos I made were done in FCP but Resolve seems wicked, I am excited to use auto subtitles!! #DunnaDidIt
I thought I knew a lot about Davinci Resolve before watching this video but boy did I learn a lot thanks to this video. Now I understand how to work with color nodes for example :) #DunnaDidIt

I drank 2 glasses of water watching this video. (just so you know.) Hahaha. #DunnaDidIt
Hi, Dunna, thanks for this 101! At 9:50 discussing project settings/automatic bkups, I think I'm seeing where this is only a partial safety net for any project in that it only saves the database version of the project, not the entire project. If you have a disaster, retrieving this bkup does not restore your entire project. To back up the entire project with media, timelines, bins, and all, is it true you need to archive each of your projects? By going to Home > Projects panel > Rt click on a project thumbnail > choose Export Project Archive ...
In Resolve, "backup" is a very confusing concept, for me anyway.
My understanding is that all of that is contained within the project library. It's probably a good idea to be backing up your project libraries to make sure you're not losing anything but I don't think you need to archive each project separately. I agree that their use of the term "backup" is a bit tricky, it's not necessarily a backup in the way that we think of a backup.
It was tough, but I made the change after 7 years using Premier. Thanks for all the great tips...Sometimes I do struggle to get things done ( my bad premier habits) #DunnaDidIt
