Hello Pål, your captivating videos showcasing the beauty of your country are truly impressive. My wife and I are embarking on a road trip from the UK to Hamburg, then onwards to Kristiansand, Stavanger, Bergen, Flåm, Oslo, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, and finally back to the UK via the Netherlands. Your insights have been invaluable in our planning process. Thank you once again for your assistance.
Thanks for the video.... Last summer we went to Bergen and only visited the centre where all the big boats are, we thought it was very touristic. But now that you have shown us the other side of Bergen we are defenitely coming back! ....
I went to Bergen 2 years ago, and hiked up Stoltzekleiven on my second to last day, as a disabled (not so hiking fit) man in my mid-30s it took me about 1.5hours I think. Well worth the view, the mini adventure and the workout. But I was so exhausted some Norwegians actually stopped to ask whether I was doing ok, or needed help :D. I decided against going straight down and hiked from there to Fløyen and then took Fløibanen down to the city again. Don't forget to have a cinnamon roll when you reach Fløyen ;).
What a terrific video!! Thank you for the insights into some places we didn't know of. And the Stoltzekleiven hike looked fantastic. We will be visiting and staying in Bergen in September, we will certainly visit everything you pointed out in this video. Hoping it won't be too crowded in September!
That's great, thanks for watching the episode! If it is crowded or not usually depends if there are many cruise ships in town, but September is typically not the high season. All the best and enjoy Norway
I didn't realize Bergen is a sister city to mine! I'll definitely have to visit the totem pole while there next summer. I love your videos - they're so helpful, and I love knowing the Norwegian pronunciation for a lot of these places I'm researching.
I didn't realise Seattle was sister cities with Bergen! I grew up around Seattle and have ancestry from Vang that fished out of Bergen before immigrating. I can't wait to see it someday.
I've just found this channel and I love the way you deliver the information through your journey. Hoping my visa is going to be granted dan off to Norway this summer.
Just got back from Bergen myself. Well about 2 months ago and loved it! I even went to that same cafe and its the best. Also, had a reindeer hotdog from that same spot. I wish I knew about some of those other spots you visited. Dang. Maybe next time.
Thank you so much! Amazing video! I spent a day in Bergen 10 years ago and loved and I am planning to go back! If I cut the penninsula, the maritme museum and hike is your tour feasible in 6 or 7 hours? I would like to do it after arriving from Oslo early in the afternoon.
Ahh, we went there when visiting Norway in 2019. Unfortunately, we were both ill with some cold virus and felt dreadful, so didn't do as much as we'd hoped but still managed the main 'must see' things, I think.
Hei Jan & Mike, perhaps some day we'll eat that hot dog together :) Btw it's not so visible in the episode, but the cat scratched my hand, leaving an almost permanent mark from Bergen ..hehe
@@norwaywithpal Thx. I had detected it at 20 Skostredet via Google Map! This image is an image on the Scott’s Emulsion bottle which my mum used to give me in the 70s. Will take a photo when I am Bergen this June. Thx again
I am a bit of a home body, I don't do much traveling, there are not many places in the world that I want to go. Now having said that I would love to see Norway, Finland and Sweden in the winter and summer.
Thank you, Pål for your really great videos. I am currently in the middle of my family summer holiday planning. We will arrive in Oslo on a Friday at around midday. We will then take the night train to Bergen, where we will spend the weekend and subsequently start our staged journey back to Oslo with a rental EV with stops in the Hardangerfjord region and Rjukon. I already learned from another video of yours that we don’t need to keep the rental car for our stay in Oslo because of the very good public traffic system. From your Bergen video it appears that we would actually be well advised renting the vehicle only from the point in time when we leave Bergen and return it once we arrive in Oslo, because there is actually no need or even use for a car in either of these cities, right? Appreciate your short response. Cheers, Urs
Thank you for your reply Pal. I will check it online. I can see it looks cosy and warm on you. I am planning to visit Iceland soon and need good jacket. It is really difficult to find good jacket with reasonable price here in London.
It was filmed in February, I have no idea what the weather will be like in December. The weather is more and more unpredictable every year due to global warming
This is the place my great great great grandparents left from Norway 🇳🇴 to America in 1860. They traveled from Osvåg Etne to Bergen. Then arrived in New York. After that they traveled to Iowa and ran a farm. They had several children who then had a lot of grandchildren. The grandchildren went to 4 different parts of America. That is California, Montana, Arizona, and Texas. Most of the family became very successful and to this day they own several businesses and make far above the national average. I still have family who live in Osvåg Norway 🇳🇴 and we keep in touch via Facebook.
Hi Pal, We loved our visit to Bergen and your show was a fun reminder. We have a few more things to do the next time. Question - how did you get down the rocky climb after sunset.? Looked a bit rough for a dark walk.
That was a wonderful video. Thanks for sharing all this knowledge with us. Bergen is definitely a must see. How did you get back down? Are the stairs lighted up or is it in darkness at night. Does reindeer taste different than beef?
Thanks Alex! We walked down again, and used the flashlight on our phones to navigate all the steps..hehe Reindeer is pretty lean meat, a bit more "wild" flavor than beef, but to be honest not a huge difference
