15 years have passed since the first and last time I visited Bergen. I was very young and inexperienced. More than 30 countries later, it´s still one of my favourite cities. I thought about moving to Bergen more times than I can remember. I've never taken that step, unfortunately, and I fear it's definitely too late to do so, with a baby and everything. Thank you for your videos.
Thank you very much for this special tour through Bergen and taking us to your friend's shop. It is easy to see why you are still attached to this beautiful place surrounded by wonderful mountains. Looking forward to another outing there. Greetings
An assistant coach I had aside me in my long tenure of coaching Soccer was from Norway. Over time I began exploring your country from our little town in Ohio, USA. Harison Ohio. Over the past many years, I have become enthralled in your country. I have wanted to visit for many years. Well, the time has finally come! My wife and I will be married Fifty yrs. in 2024 and in June we fly to Oslo! I tell people curious why, Norway. I tell them it looks like when God finished the earth and your space open, and He thought, I have to make this void, VERY special, and He did. We have time in Bergan, and I will make note of your insight. Hope to meet your friend and buy a print to bring home. Thank you for making your video, We are so excited, and already thinking a return in 2025 on our own. Be well, and Gods blessings.
If you haven't already left, enjoy your trip! I just returned from my first visit. I expected it to be wonderful and to have an amazing time, and it exceeded all of my expectations! That's not easy to do, either. I hope you have the same feeling when you return.
Being born in bergen and living there gives me so much nostalgia This is one of the most beautiful videos I've seen on UA-cam honestly, i watch a lot of movies and this video with the camera and you talking in background is like a movie that's so beautiful thank you for this beauty ❤️❤️❤️
One day soon I am going to buy an interail ticket for the over 60’s and do this trip from Oslo to Bergen and the on up to the Lofoten. Thank you for your tour. I am going to start saving now before I get too old to travel.
Great video giving nice insights into where to go in Bergen. We were there last July and it was great and we saw several of the places you are showing. We were also lucky with the weather and had four days of sunshine and no rain! We hope to go back and see more
I will follow your wonderful advice on heading toward Skansemyren and then on to Svartediket when coming down off the mountain, looking forward to a beautiful walk...thank you
I stopped in at AKB Illustrations in October 2024 and purchased a couple of lovely paintings for my granddaughters. Thank you for the wonderful recommendation!
Aww, you're just so friggin cute, Maria! And you captured Bergen so beautifully, it's clear the city miss you too, even if you break some railings along the way! 😅
Hi Maria, I'm new to your channel. Thanks for the great tour of Bergen. This city has been on my list for over 10 years and I can't wait to visit it soon. It looks absolutely stunning and like a place where I can see myself living for some time. *keeps dreaming*
I'm at that point in my life where I'm considering leaving the city l'm living in to go settle in the countryside for a while. And it's not because I don't love my city, on the contrary, but I feel a need for change. I also changed places a few times in the past, so what you say really resonates for me. Thanks for your always beautifully made videos !
So glad you could relate! I am happy about my choice for now, once the thought crept in I would not have been able to shake it I think. Hope you find a beautiful place to grow some new roots
I so enjoyed seeing Bergen from your special perspective, and meeting with your very talented friend. You are so right, the best parts of life you cannot push , they just unfold.❤
Thanks for the mini tour of Bergen. It is so funny, the one day that I spent there (I think I mentioned in a previous comment that I took the train from Oslo there just for one night and one day) was a beautiful sunny day in July and the temperature was perfect. It really is a beautiful city to visit. I took the floibanen up to the top but wasn't sure I would have time to walk down in time to catch the train to Oslo. This was about 15 years ago and there was only one train in and out a day from Oslo. So I was very lucky with the weather, but sad not to be able to walk down the mountain. I think it is a brilliant idea for you and Anna to have a podcast. As a newly emerging artist I found your conversation very interesting and I love the angle of you both having businesses - in the city and the country. And yes, please, share more of your tour of Bergen. I love those narrow steep alleyways of steps. I wish I had found those before I went. Your videos are always interesting!
Yes I remember you mentioning this! I love that you chose to go there even with that small window of time, and so glad you had a good day with wonderful weather just like me here 😎. Hope you get to go back one day so you can go in search of those deep alleyways :-). So glad you like the podcast idea, this is making me so excited for it, Thank you
@@Mariaandtheforest I hope I get back there too! I'm looking forward to your podcast! I bet it's exciting, especially doing a project with a dear old friend!
Thank you, Maria, for your thoughtful introduction to Bergen. I was there for the first time last week and had the opportunity to see many of the things you mentioned in your video. I, too, fell in love with the city and badly want to go back. We even tried to get to Anna's shop, AKB Illustrations, but it must have closed a bit early the day we were there. The advice you gave to explore the tiny streets was a wonderful tip, as we really enjoyed seeing "real life" in Bergen - instead of all of the tourist places. You made our visit better, so I thank you for that!
We spent about a week in Bergen at our friend's house 4 weeks ago on our 18 day trip to Norway. It really let us experience the city as a local and we fell in love with Bergen. I wish we were Norwegian. A lovely tour to let us relive our time there. Tusen takk.
I am amazed how much I remember of Bergen…although the newer parts have sure grown. I remember when my mom was sick, I had to go wayeeeee down the streets to the Pharmacy for her. Thank you so much for sharing! ❣️
Thank you, I enjoyed this video. I am heading to Bergen, in November and doing the Havila Voyages, round trip. I have two days pre and post Havila to explore Bergen.
I loved your video! Got a bit "homesick" but in a diffrent way that you were (are). Im waaaaaaay older and everytime im in Bergen i miss the old typical 'Norwegian' shops. Everything is starting to look like one big shopping mall filled with restaurants and pubs. But i still love to come there, and that's how i started to look at your video's.
thousands miles away from your place I am still feeling the beauty of your city and your love with her and the community within, all the best to your next plan and journey and podcast and putting your beloved city on the world attention. best wishes from someone also just moving to Sydney second for a change of life focus...... God blesses you Maria
Your calming voice would work beautifully for a podcast, not to mention the unique perspective you bring to any subject. Thanks for the lovely tour of Bergen today.😻
Just watched this for the first time. Wow. Very good video. Very personal. I'm an American who is retired but does alot of backpacking through Southern Europe and the Balkans. Never been to Northern Europe yet but if i do I'll stop by your friends little "art store". Looks really nice. Cheers and good luck to EVERYTHING you do in the future and good luck with the podcast. Thank you so much Mike! Backpacking through Southern Europe and the Balkans sounds like such an adventure, I hope to do it to one day. Even though I am sure it's very different now in many ways. Cheers 😊
I’m travelling to Bergen from the UK in August to meet my daughter and her family who are driving around Europe. Your video gave a lovely , personal insight into the City. I will try to visit your friends art shop and go up the small back lanes like you suggest. Take care and thank you.
Thank you for taking me back to Bergen. I went many years ago. Actually a few days before we left for vacation, I got a call that my father had only about a month to live. I said I was canceling and coming to spend time with him. He told me no I had to go because as a young man he was sent to Bergen and wanted me to go see its beauty. So my husband and I went. A few days after returning home, we booked a flight yo go spend a few weeks with my father. This year, I am the same age as my father was when he passed away. I feel like Bergen is a special place that connected us. Thank you for allowing me to see that sunset with you!! Stay restless in your soul because it helps you to seek things that you would otherwise become complacent about. Seeking new things brings us creative moments.
Oh wow, what a story you have with Bergen. I am really sorry for your loss, even if it is a while ago now. Glad you got to experience the city and still be with your father after. Thank you, that is very true, I will keep those words in mind
Hi,i loved your video. I've been to Bergen ten days ago and i loved it. How can you describe Bryggen to a tourist? What is the most important to know about it?
Bergen is such a special little city. Endlessly sprawling suburbs but a city centre that feels more like being in a large town. All the beautiful and cosy back streets with cobblestones and small wooden houses. The proximity to varied and beautiful nature. Studying here now, hoping I'll be able to get a job here so I can stay. Bergen in my ❤
Thank you for this fabulous video. I’m retracing my mother’s footsteps, as she worked in Bergen as a young physiotherapist for 2 years at the end of the polio era. This area was her happy place and we heard about it all of her life, but it’s only recently that I’ve managed to get here from Australia and appreciate her love of it. Your beautiful representation of this small city was spot on. Now how about one on your (rapidly retreating 😢) fjords.
Thx from MO USA. Beautiful, interested in seeing the art shops and hearing your podcast. Love your life vids in the countryside also. So cute how the dog sat on your lap. 2:00 pm CDT
Thank you for giving us the tour. The town is beautiful including your friend and her art. I would like for you to share more of the towns you go to with us.
Thank you for another lovely video Maria. I've only just seen it now, having been away doing a show for the last week. Bergen looks very pretty indeed, and far more interesting than I had imagined. I really must visit one day. It was lovely to see your friend Anna too and her delightful dog. A podcast would be interesting, or maybe just more videos of the two of your chatting on the sofa. Either way sign me up for it ! Perhaps you will soon do a "local guide" video for Stavanger as well.
How lovely Mark. I feel curious as to what show this is, I hope it went well 😊. I am glad you liked Bergen, hope you get to see it with your own eyes one day. Glad you like the idea of our podcast. It will most likely be a video version of it too 😁. Stavanger would be wonderful too! I am touring there next year so it might be a good idea actually 😊
It's nice to see a video from someone that has lived there for a long time. You know the weather better than some tourist that makes videos of the places he/she visits. I have heard good thing about Bergen and in this video too it looks stunning. But me... I like sunshine and hate the rain so maybe not a place for me.
Oh I love your city Bergen ! And I love the countryside of Norway ! I get why you’re torn between the two . Also, Bergen reminds me of my hometown in parts , how I love that ! Thank you for showing these sights and aspects of your life. As always , looking forward to more vlogs from you ❤
Right? Its truly tricky, also having wonderful friends on both sides :-). So nice that it reminds you of your hometown, can I ask the name of it? Thank you for watching and waiting for my videos
@@Mariaandtheforest I’m very late to respond to this but it is a small city called Solvang in California . Maybe it’s more similar to Denmark but I find myself thinking of it when going through your video in parts . Sidenote - I am looking forward to watching your latest video when I get some time ! So glad to see another from you ❤
Wow that was a fantastic guide. I didn't even skipped a video for a second all the scenes were just amazing and your communication with friends was so cool I enjoyed it the most honestly. It's my first video that's I watched completely from the start to end. I have no words to appreciate your hard work lot's of love from Pakistan keep it up and I hope we all will enjoy the journey as a family and again your work is beyond from appreciation ❤️😘❤️
Going back to places we've lived can be quite powerful, I relate so much! I make UA-cam videos in a similar spirit as yours and I'm currently also revisiting old places I've lived... I used to live in my dream house in the country but last October I knew... even though I resisted it, that it was time to leave... so after packing up my whole life and my two cats I've been traveling ever since... up until recently we had to go back to where we once lived and I've had many similar reflections. It was so lovely to feel like we got to hang out with you and walk around the city! Sending love from my corner of the world to yours! 💛
Glad you can relate too Gabrielle, it sounds like you have been on quite the journey lately! I hope the road brings you to many good places ♡. Your channel is really nice by the way 🥰
@@Mariaandtheforest Thank you so much - it has been such a journey! And every time I think I know what's about to happen it changes. Such a powerful teacher. Your complement about my channel and videos means the world, thank you so much!
Oh no! I was in Bergen on the 7th of March and it was a beautiful sunny day but I didn’t know to walk behind the shops at Bryggen. I would have loved to visit your friend’s shop. It would have been super fun if I had bumped into you filming. 😊. Thanks for a great episode. Now I know for the next time in Bergen. ❤
Thank you for this lovely tour of Bergen. You live in a beautiful country, and I'm so glad that I get to learn about it from your blog. ❤👏👏👏👏 Thank you.
My boyfriend and I are planning to move to Norway and we're considering either Bergen or Trondheim. We'd love to live in countryside, but realistically, we also need jobs (but, on the other hand, we felt so close to nature when we visited Norway even though we stayed in Trondheim, so living in a town would probably not take much away from that). I could potentially do some illustration work remotely (and also finding out there's an active art scene in Bergen makes me so happy and hopeful), but my boyfriend would like to land a good position in hospitability or try working on a ferry. Feeling really nervous, but also so excited about the idea of going to Norway.
Such a nice job you did. 👍👍👍I was really pleasantly surprised. It’s something I never seen in a while…Really! If ever. Because each of us is one in their own kind . Ever. Forever. Without beginning. Without end. Limitless. 👏👏👏👌😎
This video is great. I'm really happy I came across it. Bergen look stunning. Really looking forward to going in July. Do you gave any more recommendations on affordable coffee shops?
So cool you are going in July! Unfortunately nothing is affordable in Norway. But my favorite coffee shops in Bergen would be Nobel Bopel (its a bit outside of the city center but in walking distance and you get to see a different part of Bergen), Bergen Kaffebrenneri (also in the same neighborhood), Kaf (right next to my friend Anna's shop) aaaand then there is the one I show in the video which is called Det Lille Kaffekompaniet :-) But generally, most of them have the same prices, and most of them are very cozy :-)
Isn't it lovely to reminisce about past precious memories, this city is beautiful. I had the pleasure to travel by train from Oslo to Bergen, gorgeous landscape and breathtaking views. Everyone I encountered was very gracious and kind.
I so enjoy your videos always but sometimes forget to comment! So I am saying present! Thank you for taking us along with you to these journeys in places one can only dream of! Bergen reminds me of the Italian City of Ancona. Huge hug! 🙏♥️🌎
A absolutely love your way of portraying the life, storytelling style. Please keep it up. Lot of love from India. Also would love of to see some of your travel clips from India 🙂
I enjoyed this tour of the lovely city Bergen so much and appreciate the insights you shared🙏🏼. I simply love living in a cabin in the mountains aka ‘the middle of nowhere’ as I’d like to call it😁
Such a beautiful tour of Bergen, and was lovely to see you and your friend chatting and laughing, the dog made me laugh when she turned Aron’s and sat on your lap 😊 so sweet ❤
I loved having a her on here too. I always want to bring my friends in my videos, but many are not so comfortable with it which is totally understandable. Haha I laugh when I watch that clip too 😄
Cities are like several different towns rolled altogether with lots of different types of people especially near a water front. So understand the attachment if you have lived there. I however enjoy the country with little to no people. My country area has filled in ,but my disability says land management is hard work along with caring for a home.
Hi Maria, I really enjoyed your Bergen tour. I've never been to Norway, but one day I would love to visit. I can relate to your feelings of restlessness ... I think it goes along with the creative spirit! I'm a musician and composer and I'm always seeking new inspiration from wild and remote landscapes. I'd be super interested in a podcast, that's a great idea 👍 Thanks for another inspiring and insightful video. I only recently found your channel and I'm really happy I subscribed 😊 Alison
Hi Alison, thank you for your comnent. I am glad others can relate too. So cool that you are a composer and musician! I have a lot of respect for the work you do. Glad you are interested in the podcast ♡♡ that gives us so much inspiration.
I visited Bergen a little while ago and fell in love with it. How do locals feel about American expats? I’m learning the language but keep hearing things about how Norwegians are cold, it’s hard to make friends, etc. but when I visited everyone seemed polite and friendly. Any help is appreciated. Takk!
Hi, I have asked my friends that have moved to Norway from abroad about this and mostly they say that Norwegians are friendly and kind to them. Learning the language is a very good thing though, espescially the older norwegians are not so comfortable with english. Norwegians can sometimes feel a bit direct and blunt in a sense to some Americans, which might sometimes cause misunderstandings, but most of the time that works out fine 😊
Hi Maria, I have a question for you in regard to footwear. You say it frequently rains in Bergen and its to resolve the difficulty I have had with waterproof footwear that will cope just as with wet stones/cobbles/pavements as well as the boots/shoes will deal with the rough paths found in rambling the countryside. Thanks for your help
Hi! Honestly I have not figured it out myself. I mostly just wore what I felt like wearing when I was living there, and accepted the wet shoes... Sometimes you can get from A to B with leather shoes and it will be ok even if it rains :-). Gortex in the mountains, or boots on really wet days.

Thx from MO USA. Beautiful, interested in seeing the art shops and hearing your podcast. Love your life vids in the countryside also. So cute how the dog sat on your lap. 2:00 pm CDT
Awesome! Thank you for watching
Loved it! And I think the podcast idea is fantastic! I'd listen 😊
I was ones in Bergen. Not for the last time 🙂. Thank you 💙
It has a way of bringing you back
Thank you for giving us the tour.
As someone who lives on the east side of norway thinking of studying in Bergen, thank you for this! Really helps when I can't go visit ✨✨💕
Your video has truly shown me how magical Bergen is! I am traveling there this summer and cannot wait to explore. Thank you
Oh I love your city Bergen !
Thank you for sharing! That dog is so cute 🥰
My pleasure! Yes he really is one of the cutest dogs I know.
Your complement about my channel and videos means the world, thank you so much!
loved this one Maria, can't wait for Part 2
Thank you!
Wow, we were so close to bumping into each other! Would have loved to meet you there too
Thank you for sharing... and for introducing AKB Illustrations i want to visit there. Anna looks lovely [smitten] lol
She is lovely indeed! I have since this video realized I should include a disclaimer stating that she has a boyfriend 😂🙈
Thank you for this lovely tour of Bergen. You live in a beautiful country, and I'm so glad that I get to learn about it from your blog. ❤👏👏👏👏 Thank you.
Thankyou for this video, I am coming in June!
Awesome♡ wishing you a wonderful trip!
@@Mariaandtheforest thank you xx
Thats so exciting! I hope you will have the best time here and find a nice place to settle
Such a nice job you did. 👍👍👍I was really pleasantly surprised. It’s something I never seen in a while…Really! If ever. Because each of us is one in their own kind . Ever. Forever. Without beginning. Without end. Limitless. 👏👏👏👌😎
The dog greeting was so wholesome 😭😍
Please share more!
This video is great. I'm really happy I came across it. Bergen look stunning. Really looking forward to going in July. Do you gave any more recommendations on affordable coffee shops?
So cool you are going in July!
Unfortunately nothing is affordable in Norway. But my favorite coffee shops in Bergen would be Nobel Bopel (its a bit outside of the city center but in walking distance and you get to see a different part of Bergen), Bergen Kaffebrenneri (also in the same neighborhood), Kaf (right next to my friend Anna's shop) aaaand then there is the one I show in the video which is called Det Lille Kaffekompaniet :-)
But generally, most of them have the same prices, and most of them are very cozy :-)
YESSSS! It is my personal fave city. :))))
I love your friends moose illustration!!!
Me too
Hello from North Carolina USA
THANKS FOR TAKING ME ALONG WITH YOU TO SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE
You are so welcome, thank you for coming along
Du er så inspirerende! Veldig fin video av Bergen!
Tusen takk
Isn't it lovely to reminisce about past precious memories, this city is beautiful. I had the pleasure to travel by train from Oslo to Bergen, gorgeous landscape and breathtaking views. Everyone I encountered was very gracious and kind.
So glad you had a good experience!
Looking forward to hear the podcast!!! 😻🤩🤩
Yay! Thank you!
I so enjoy your videos always but sometimes forget to comment! So I am saying present! Thank you for taking us along with you to these journeys in places one can only dream of! Bergen reminds me of the Italian City of Ancona. Huge hug! 🙏♥️🌎
Aww I feel your presence always Saray
Perjalanan yang menyenangkan sekali dan terima kasih kamu membawa saya jalan jalan 😙😙
I have been to Bergen three times, I love this city
So glad you love it too :-)
Can’t wait for the podcast:)
Oh I am so glad
A absolutely love your way of portraying the life, storytelling style. Please keep it up. Lot of love from India. Also would love of to see some of your travel clips from India 🙂
Thank you
@Mariaandtheforest Aww! Anyway, keep going with your present content. It's nice to see the shadows of life through your eyes.
Loved this video. I hope I will get to go there someday :)
Thank you for showing me around another beautiful place I may never see in person ❤️
My pleasure Cindy
I enjoyed this tour of the lovely city Bergen so much and appreciate the insights you shared🙏🏼. I simply love living in a cabin in the mountains aka ‘the middle of nowhere’ as I’d like to call it😁
So glad you liked it! I totally get that, that place where you live looks so magical and special in your videos
Haha I laugh when I watch that clip too 😄
I love your friends art work!!
I dream of Bergen, thanks for sharing
Cities are like several different towns rolled altogether with lots of different types of people especially near a water front.
So understand the attachment if you have lived there. I however enjoy the country with little to no people. My country area has filled in ,but my disability says land management is hard work along with caring for a home.
Nice to see the Bergen. ❤ Lovely video 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it Mia
Thank you Maria. Lot of love to you too. ❤️
Bergen is one off the most beautiful cities in the world ❤️❤️❤️. - and the most amusing people ❤️
Hi Maria, I really enjoyed your Bergen tour.
Thank you for sharing!
Aww probably I would be there.... Just pray
What a beautiful city! I'd love to visit it. Greetings from Galicia, Spain
I hope you get to see it one day ♡
I visited Bergen a little while ago and fell in love with it.
Did you ever see Karl Ove Knaussgard hanging out at Cafe Opera?
No I have not, haha. But I have seen him around :-). I worked a little at Cafe Opera myself too.
@@Mariaandtheforest that's so cool!!!!
Where I can hear the podcast!💙
The name is "Freelance & Friends" on youtube or spotify
I wanna hear the Podcast! :D
Bergen is beautiful!
