PHEW… we really shouldn't have started with that low-carb diet before coming to Oslo! 😄 We hope you enjoyed this video - please give us a thumbs up and subscribe, if you'd like to see more of our videos!
Crazy how I can learn about my own city by watching these type of videos. Often you get a new perspective from a tourists eye. For example, I literally grew up in Grünerløkka and still lives here, but Ive never heard of Haralds Vaffel 😂 Need to check it out now
I lived in Oslo for a while in the late seventies. My income didn't always match my expenses, but the local hot-dog stand provided a solution - a bun filled with chopped onion, with the potato-cake at top- if needed, on credit. The vendor called it her "special". She was a good woman.
fun fact: this spot at 07:30 in those stairs between those yellow like brick buildings (Ibsenkvartalet) is from a very popular and famous norwegian tv series called 'Hotel Caesar' that aired for like 19 years(1998 - 2017) with like 34 seasons in total. :)
I used to work in an office in that grey building, to the right of the "SYVERKIOSKEN". The vendor slowly simmers the hot dogs in beef broth. Wich of course enhances the flavour of the hand made sausages from "Strøm Larsen". (Famous Oslo butchers). The potato "Lompe" (tortilla), is a Norwegian speciality. It's a popular option to the sausage bun. Optionally you can get your sausages with home made mash. "Korv och mos", (sausage and mash, a swedish staple food), was a life saver to our Swedish manager, when struck with home sickness... 🌭🏢🤗🇳🇴 😋🌭🇸🇪🏡
That must be nice (and dangerous) to work so close to a place like that 😁 Next time we'll have to try the sausage and mash - also a staple in Germany 😋
We went to Oslo just as the pandemic started last year so we only got a very abbreviated view before we had to leave. We def want to explore more our next trip.
Oh yes, it's absolutely fantastic. But don't mix brunost and sour cream. Both are great for vaffels, brunost on tis own or either with jam. But the two don't mix very well and you'll end up with flavours that eitehr cancel each other or fight each other.
This is a very interesting city, I hope I can visit again sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!
Not gamle Oslo by the Opera. Gamle Oslo is in an other area. But the trainstation is old. Full of shops, restaurants and cafes. Very modern , big hall together with the trains.
Since nearly all your viewers type in English, so I will also. Very interesting video, thank you! I like the Viener Wurst in potato pancake; so lecker! Also, I know Hamburg very well, if that is your hometown. Moin from Hannover! I am using my partner's account, so that is not my profile photo. Good luck with your UA-cam career!
Hey, i really loved this video! I'm planning trip to Oslo soon and I have a question. Are these prices for two people or it's for one person? Thanks a lot!
Thank you, that's nice to hear! 🙂 It's definitely a challenge and we try to eat more or less healthy for the majority of our trips, so that we can also have days like the one in the video, where we go slightly overboard 😁
@@ZoeandSimon Just saw your Thailand videos and having been there many times, it is really challenging to avoid sugar and carbs. Best thing to do I think is to stick to unsweetened tea in bottles. Have fun! Wish I was there with my family!
Google, tells me, Melt in Oslo in 2023,is permanently closed. Incase anyone wanted to go there, when travelling. I will be visiting My Ugly Baby coffee shop that looks great. I've been to Oslo before, didn't know some of these places to eat existed so thank you.
Simon, what happened to you're eye half way through? I hope it wasn't the sweet cheese thing as I was tempted to try next week when I visit?!!!! Shame you only covered junk food, I was hoping to get some cool restaurant and bar ideas.
Why, what happened to the eye haha? 😅 We don't think that we had any negative reactions from the food, so you're good to try the cheese. And yea this video is mostly about street food, which is often not the healthiest, but tasty! 😁
We use a Fuji X-S10 with the Fuji 16-80mm F4. It's not the best low light lens as it's not that fast, but it's a good allround lens with trusty autofocus, which makes up for it 😁
We don't know unfortunately - we were there in the middle of September, but it's probably very hard to predict anyway 😁 We would definitely pack some optional layers in case it gets really cold and rain jackets/umbrellas in case there's rain.
I've lived in Oslo, and I don't think I've eaten any of that. I always went for falafel as a street food, and for eating out I would go for Indian. I'm quite boring lol
We hope not! 😅 Nah, it's just a really expensive city unfortunately. You can of course find cheaper food as well and the places in the video were probably also extra expensive, as the food is more "trendy".
Ripping tourists off isnt really a thing here i think. Everything is just expensive here especialy in Oslo. The resturants have to pay really high rent, eletricity, staff, ingredients etc
@@ZoeandSimonYeah, because it's trendy. I've been to Norway a couple of times and I have eaten Brunost Polse, and laks Fisk, with molte beeren which is healthier than Donuts. The food and especially the alcohol is very expensive in Norway.
