Truly a beautiful and magical city but I disagree entirely that Bergen has a 'cosmopolitan' character; far from it, Bergen has a distinctive Nordic and national character. A cosmopolitan city is one which is modern, functional, soulless and could be anywhere, Bergen feels especially and particularly Norwegian. It has a unique and local character, and that is exactly why it is such a beautiful city.
That's absolutely true. I think the guide perhaps was referring to some of the building techniques and the influence from abroad. But I also think Bergen has a local character and feel to it. It has always had a big international influence because of the trading of stockfish, but at the same time it has manged to keep the uniqueness and charm. We use to say that Bergen is a big city with a small-town charm. I think that is quite fitting :)
@@visitBergencom You are both wrong! 😁 There is nothing like Bergen. It is a unique world in itself and needs no comparison to other places. 😉
