Japan's weakness is that their cavalry units are very expensive compared to others, so raids can be difficult starting out compared to other civs. Their artillery units are limited to 2 units. The shrines are vulnerable and easily tracked down and destroyed. Their age 2 is very weak to start. Their villagers being unable to hunt forces you to build and upgrade expensive rice paddies earlier on. Their play style and unit composition is easily predictable based on what wonders they are building or what deck the user has, so countering them is simple, with the caveat that you can't just hang back and let them boom, unless you yourself are also booming and plan to match their force.

I feel like brits are misunderstood. Yes they are solid, and yes they are among the best civs in the game. But they also have clear weaknesses that good players knows how to exploit.
They dont have very good army. Yes musks are kinda strong with all the upgrades, but many civs rely on skirms, and this results in musks primarely being meat shield for artillery, rather than a strenght in itself.
The brit army is veeeeery food demanding. The usuall composition of musk and huss demand 75 food from musk and 125 from huss. This is okay when vills got good hunts to gather from, but during age 2 brits usually need to take map control. Many brits player lose at this point because they dont have good enough army to stand against civs like india, dutch and france because those civs are in age 3 at that point.
If the enemy knows how go raid, the brits will struggle to get the good mass that they want in age 2.
Brits are very good in age 2, but if they dont utulize that strenght they will soon meet age 3 units. Brits going age 3 and 4 fast is often a more viable option, but their unit mass will not be big enough if they do this.
So, brits are very strong. Deffenitly A or S tier. But they have certain weaknesses that many players knows how to exploit. Thats why i wouldnt call them OP like i hear many people say.

3:39 Germany is one of the civs that over-upgrades their units the most, i think they are probably the most upgradable in military of the european at least; their Skirmishers do fall off for the lack of upgrades even though is RG, and their WW also don't have too many, but their uhlan gets a little higher in upgrades than the most upgradable european units, and their doppelsoldner gets way higher...
The one thing in what i do agree is that their units late game could be a bit better, SPECIALLY because they receive A LOT of upgrades, and that's kind of their identity also, it's dumb to me that i spend like 5 HC cards and shipments and like 6 techs for a unit and still with all that it's not as good as other european similar units, even more when those cards affect ONLY that 1 unit, and for example with Dutch you have only 3 cards that affect all Infantry as well and that unit it's still kind of better than the German one... So thats my point, they don't fall off in late game, because they get better with upgrades, but their base stats are not really great, only the Skirmisher, it does need more upgrades.

I would like to point a couple of things I noticed playing a lot these civs:
-swedes: they have surprisingly very good mercenaries, and can unlock Landksnetch in age II, wich, if you don't mind spending 300 coin in a shipment and 500 later doing them, you get 5 Landksnetch, wich are op as hell. But that's up to you, in age III you get the chance to do Giant Grenadiers and in the Bar you get always Hessians and Black Riders
-italy: get age IV and do Papal Lancers and ship from the home city their charget attack. Do more Papal Lancers. Do more Papal Lancers. Do more Papal Lancers, maybe do some Bersaglieri if your enemy is trying to do dragoons to counter Papal Lancers. Did I say that you have to do more Papal Lancers?
-malta: the +2% hp shipment doesn't apply to infinite shipments (resources, units), and only apply to regular units; hospital, docks and artillery foundry (yes, falconets and culverins with extra hp), Commandaries, Native Warriors and Mercenaries are not affected by the +2% hp. However German, Spanish and French tongue are for me _must have_ shipments, so in late game I can ship Knights of Rodas and get 24 knight hospitalliers just in one shipment xD
also the best is to do early pike/crossbowman since they are stronger than the regular pike/crossbows and then when you are more mid/late go for knight hospitallier/fire thrower. Sentinel can be available early, but are quite demanding
-U.S.: weakness for United States are early enemy hussars/similar, I already have my favorite route for gameplay with them
    - incas are kinda "quantity over quality", but I feel they can do a lot better with the Kallanka, their "better unit" building
    - aztecs _are_ the "quantity over quality" in the first huts, and noble huts is a weird mix of "quantity over quality"

Just picked up the game this week and I'm having an absolute blast with it despite already being slightly familiar with the vanilla classic from 2005! I'm particularly in love with Malta just because I'm well into the "Quality over quantity" + "Lots of healing so I don't have to replace my losses" style of attrition Fabian strategy. Knight Hospitallers can absolutely wreck numerically superior groups of enemies of even medium quality while suffering minimal or even no losses if played correctly and then recover back to full health behind a hospital with no resource cost for that! Like, I don't care if your Strelets are cheap and disposable, the loss of even one of them still equals the loss of 45 Resources while my only "casualty" here is a little bit of time spent with the healing. That is what *true* cost efficiency looks like and you cannot convince me otherwise! I almost came to try out India for good too because of their war elephants hoping I'd do the same, but their lack of healing compared to Malta's was a "no" for me. Oh, well. Just get French Tongue and get access to their Cuirassiers and use the same healing tactics. Not as upgradable as the actual ones used by France itself, but they get surprisingly close, lol. What matters for me is that the unit is tanky and survivable enough to be healed and keep fighting another day and so on as "indefinitely" as possible. Helped a lot by their amazing +2% HP per shipment too. Hit, run, heal units inside the overlapping AOE aura of 2 or 4 hospitals, rinse and repeat. Even those "1HP left" situations are still a win for me. Which is the main reason I also liked the Ottomans a lot for their Sipahis. They easily became my second favorite just for that alone as soon as I realized their HCC has become of infinite use, lol. Although their comparable lack of fortifications to create a strong forward base of operations to solidify map control is what keeps Malta as my favorite (it's also difficult to get the XP for shipments to readily replace them just in case things don't go as planned and a mistake happens. There's that too). And Malta has a LOOOOOOT of fortifications and defensive options to synergize with that regenerative playstyle. Seriously, having an upper limit of up to *5 FORTS* along with those fire towers is just insane! I've also managed to get out of some very sticky matchups against the Hard AI by Fort Rushing in Age 2 with that HCC that allows your Grand Master to build one that early. Risky and not very easy to pull off due to the build time, but worth it. From there I keep fortifying my position and create a solid base of operations in the middle of the map. Turtling without the drawbacks of giving away map control. And if there's spare pop space left, well, Fixed Gun. Not my first option to do when fortifying, but they're there. Hella tanky and extremely cheap to repair just like every building. Only major problem is potential culverins, but that's about it. Again, not very easy of a strat to pull off, but sooo rewarding to pull that off with the tools Malta has at its disposal. Because although a bit more "secondary", I also like to "Sim City" with fortifications and base building in general like a military engineer and Malta offers the best experience to me that I've seen so far (Haven't tried Hausa yet). Although I still haven't mastered the use of Gunpowder Depots nor Sentinels yet. Too afraid and worried about the double edged sword that GD's are and sentinels aren't much good on their own in the early game. But do I hope to eventually manage that too.
Maaan, it almost seems like the entire Civ was made just for me as a birthday gift XD! Like, I know from a few searches that healing isn't very popular in this game due to the time constraints that it imposes for making your units idle doing nothing, but the extra defensive play of Malta with defensive buildings and forts to hold the enemy off and buy said time more than makes up for it.

18:11 i would disagree a bit here, Japanese does have very high quality units, but no way all their units are ridiculous and monsters... Their best unit is probably the naginata or the ashigaru; naginata it's not good in a cuirassier way, that they are really good vs skirmishers, but are also very good vs everything else, and the naginata is probably the best cav in the Game if youre fighting Skirmishers, they are really good, but vs everything else, they are only good, so it's a very good unit, but not in a broken way, and it's more specialized so you can't spam that as your only unit; the ashigaru, is one of the very best musks, if not the best in the late game with all bonuses, although is not way stronger than all others, just a bit stronger, you destroy 1 wonder or kill their daimyos and they are not the best anymore, also in the early game they are not so good, o would even say they are worse than normal musketeers... Their next unit is probably their yumi, etc.
    My point is that:
    - Naginata is between S and A tier
    - Ashigaru is S tier in late game but B or C tier in the very early game
    - Yumi is A tier for the most part
    - Yabusame is between B tier and A tier at the most
    - Samurai is for the most part like a B tier
    - Morutaru i think it is S tier
    - Flaming arrow is something like B tier
    - Naginata (S tier)
    - Morutaru (S tier)
    - Ashigaru (S tier)
    - Yumi (A tier)
    - Yabusame (B tier)
    - Samurai (B tier)
    - Flaming arrow (B tier)
Thats far from all 7 units being S+ in my opinion

    • @KleinerGrenadier

    • @pabloduarte1722
      @pabloduarte1722 Рік тому

@@KleinerGrenadier well, in supremacy they are quite suitable and comfortable, but still, they don't pass from A tier...
They make a decent job as culvs, although as cannons they are not really good, they don't deal much damage, nor do they have much area damage, and fire rather slowly, not to mention that they don't fire instantly and because of that the shoots can be bugged... Maximum is A tier.
