This is freakin hilarious. People are reviewing this knife like its a $150 spyderco. Its a cheap $10 knife. Mine has been completely fine and if it breaks it was $10 lmao 😂
As a standalone video, yes you’re right. The reason he made this is because some people in the knife community are talking about this knife like it’s a market killer when it’s no different in quality than the $15-25 Ganzos and Eafengrows that have been around for years.
It really is ridiculous! A $10 wal mart knife and every nerd on the internet is over evaluating every aspect of its build… if one nerd does a video and it gets views then the next nerd has to have one to compete.
@@gabrielM1111 considering the use and abuse I’ve put Spyderco folders through over 20+ years across 4 continents - they are more than worth their price if you actually use your shit. I’ve seen many cheap folders get thrashed pretty quickly while also being mediocre cutting tools. Meanwhile - I’ve got Spyderco folders that were retired because they were used so often for so long that I’ve worn the edge back significantly from many sharpenings. The geometry gets thick, but the pivot and lock still functions flawlessly. And during all of that use - the knife is enjoyable to use, the heat treat is spot on, and the ergonomics are world class.
I bought one just to check out the hype. Did a video on it, comparing it to other Ozark Trail knives I have. It's pretty good, action really good. I did tighten the pivot slightly. No play up and down or sideways. The worst thing on mine is roughness on the part of the blade where the crossbar lock slide over the blade to lock it. Mine was very rough, but getting better. Hard to beat for the money, but does feel a bit cheap.
Arkansas Edc did a video beating his in to a log and his lock didn't appear to fail nor did it have any play after. He pried with it and broke the blade and it still looked solid. Maybe all aren't like this but I have another to see if it's a repeat issue or not. My email is in the description, contact me so I can talk with you about sending something your way.
I saw Arkansas EDC's videos, he shows up at my live streams pretty regularly. I got 7 hours of cutting cardboard with one of mine and another went 6 hours but I had to tap out. There was still some edge left on it though.
Thanks for the video. I picked one up the other day just to check it out since everyone's talking about it. Mine had a lot of left right blade play out of the package. The pivot screw was really stiff but I was able to tighten it until it would tighten no more. It's better but still has a little bit of play and no room left to adjust it. Hard to complain too hard for a $10 knife I guess but it's one I'll just throw in my glove box in case I forget to grab a knife when I'm heading out the door.
I bought three of these knife last Saturday (that was Walmart limit) before they sold out. I then ordered one more the next day and that one was canceled by Walmart on Tuesday because they are sold out. the pivot screw adjustment is pretty close to what I want from factory. I used my torque driver too adjust it and ended up a half turn from what is originally set for.
Got a few people trolling this knife, because the reviews are overwhelmingly positive , for good reason .Anyone who doesn’t think this is a fantastic knife for the price is clueless or lying.
The problem isn't people saying it's a great knife (for the price) it's people comparing so favorably to much more expensive knives and saying it could replace a $150/$200 knife.
@@dakken74 you're switching up your own logic. based on that it can replace the 1000 dollar knife too which is nonsense. What I obviously meant was it can replace and do better than much more expensive knives under 80. Meaning as a tool not as a collectors item.
@@D2G10 but that's not the way these UA-camrs have been reviewing it, their reviewing like it's a really high quality knife that just happens to be $10 dollars.
Mine had issues with the crossbar lock out new. The crossbar was rubbing the paint off the liner on one side. It would stick to the point where it wouldn't lock open or closed. Tightening the pivot at all stopped the knife from opening, and it wouldn't really loosen up past a certain point. The lock has since worn in and stopped sticking. I'm not disappointed for $10, but I'm also not going to edc it or anything. Just something to keep in the truck or a bag as a beater knife.
For an easy user it may last a while. I've accelerated the use to see I it would have any issues. It is one I'd leave around the house for anyone to use. This does make me wonder if the crossbar or liners are heat treated at all. Kind of like the replacement over seas Bugout liners that aren't.
@Outpost_76 that's a good point about the heat treat. I wouldn't doubt they're extremely soft. Have you tried any of the Vosteed knives? I got a button lock Raccoon for cheap and it's been great for the ~$50 I paid for it. 14C28N, micarta, and a decent lock. They also do some crossbar locks but I haven't tried one of those.
Thanks for the video. For someone that just needs a basic knife that won't get used much and is on a tight budget maybe it's a decent option. But for me it seems like a false economy when there are really good knives available for $30 or so.
I agree, SRM has had a crossbar lock knife out for years that's far better for $23. It is 8cr13 but it's an aluminum handle with no pivot, lock or blade play on washers that's smooth. It's still available on Amazon today and mine was gifted to me used and has been a far better value.
It's interesting to see how it holds up. There are plenty of sub $30 knives that are decent out there. Still been seeing videos saying OT is not too bad. I'm not its target market but something that cuts for $10 will appeal to many.
My only problem with it is that it doesn't open easily. I don't know if it's because the spring on the cross bar is too strong, or may I need to grind a little off the blade where it rubs against the cross bar, or maybe it's just my technique. I did notice that while it's almost impossible to open one-handed when I'm holding it upright, it seems to open better when I'm holding it parallel to the ground. But it's still difficult. I've worn my thumbs raw trying. It doesn't flick open as effortlessly as I see on every other videos I've watched about it.
Mine was flexing at the pivot when i tested it for blade play. There wasn't any play (after I tightened the pivot) but there was easy flex. I was concerned that the thin, possibly soft steel liners combined with the plastic scales might cause just the play you are seeing. Thanks for the heads up. Thanks for the video. You think maybe the pivot screw is bottomed out and you need a washer or two, because the plastic handles are compressing under the pivot screw heads?
Nothing unexpected in a $10 knife. I picked one up and it's convinced me that I need to just pony up for a Bugout. I'll keep this one for the ugly stuff and scrap it when it falls apart.
Read the instructions. Obviously this is due to operator error. 😆 JJK. Seriously, thank you for the review. Do you think it would help to dis-assemble the knife? Put blue Locktite on all scews, torq down screws... before use?
I’d say it’s a cool novelty for $10 to keep around the house to open boxes and nothing past that but I don’t ever see myself carrying this or relying on this knife for anything but that
In the usecase for it, gradually developing lock issues aren't so much of an issue, you know? This is for throwing in a glove box or an emergency kit. Decent D2 steel for short disposable use in a pinch, I'll take for the cost of a fancy Starbucks coffee. I totally agree with you that it's way overhyped by "influencers" just to drive their clicks, but there's still something to be said for solid steel you can forget about in a pinch. I would not trust it with regular use, but it's a solid short term last-ditch.
I said the same thing in my comment on another channel comparing my Ganzo G721 auto for $19 with this $10 Ozark Trail POS, and got trolled by an Ozark Trail fanboy. I took both of these knives apart when I got them to see how they work. The Ganzo has a very rigid and sturdy stainless frame with G10 scales. This OT has flimsy metal liners that you can bend by hand EASILY and cheap plastic scales. Yes, it has a nice D2 blade, but the rest is 💩, IMO. I much prefer my Ganzo as a cheap, but slicey, workhorse. This OT is junk that will stay in the garden shed. Not a chance in hell I would carry it.
I can’t see the logic in buying this when someone can get a cheap sencut, ruike, Ontario, qsp (or even something like a honey badger) for 30-40 that isn’t going to wear out the lock and pivot after some use. People saying “well you can throw it away and get another”… I don’t want to buy a knife I expect to throw away
I bought one and am not impressed. The side to side pivot play is there somewhat when new. Seem to me there is not enough pivot bearing diameter. Would not trust it for even medium use.
