Great to see you back. For $10 that is a win. Kershaw makes models made of 4cr13mov and sell them for $20-$25 The Lifter and Misdirect to name 2. Getting decent D2 for $10 is great. For a lot of people that ozark would be the best knife that they have ever owned. Something I think a lot of us knife nuts forget.
You say it's not great but it's ok. IT'S A 10 DOLLAR KNIFE......... I've only watched videos on it but would think it just may be the Best 10 dollar knife out there.
That was my thought on the D2 at this price point. I hope they keep them in stock and they don't eventually go up in price too high to kill the value factor. I travel quite a bit with carry on luggage and always have fun finding a decent budget knife to use when I am in a location for a few weeks. Sometimes I have even bought and shipped budget knives ahead of me to my hotel at my destination to avoid having to try to find one locally. The idea of a $10 knife that won't break the bank but performs middle of the road for D2 steel until I give it away is very appealing.
It’s all about perspective. For a guy that has tons of knives, including high end, prestigious knives, this doesn’t make sense to carry. But for someone just starting out, or someone that doesn’t have a lot of knives to choose from in their rotation, this is an excellent choice. Another thing to consider is if this is a persons first crossbar lock, that may be a new experience for them. Let’s face it, even for someone that has a lot of knives, they may not have been willing to for over the $150-200 for a benchmade knife, and it may be a good chance to try out that sort of lock on a knife.
But you absolutely could get a penguin for $30...and actually rely on it to hold up if you legitimately beat on it. You could get a Rat. There are legit beater options. This thing will wear much, much faster and you'll end up paying more in the long run.

Yeah, there’s definitely no upsides here…the edc/knife community loses the plot occasionally. The reasons why Opinel and Morakniv knives have widely seen decades of use and still work well, and have been used by generations, is because they were affordable to the Everyman. Why they continue to maintain that affordability. They were used and abused like people do today with utility knives, and still stayed in use through decades of work. Yep. Opinel and mora do the work. I have a civivi folder in D2 and mightve taken this up instead. Wanted a higher wear resistant steel for cheap. Basics just work. One day I'll get a custom knife in a good steel like magnacut, properly heat treated to the max, but until then.. stuff works. I could use a kitchen knife that isnt 55hrc, though, especially with the thin angle I put on them that dulls almost entirely by squishing.

I'm surprised it seems to have a coating vs paint. Many China and Taiwan budget blades I've tested lost the paint coating to bare steel during testing it this still has it for now.
Wow, for ten bucks that competes pretty well with other cheap knives. Is it hard? Usually D2 can't be heat treated to less than about 60, thankfully. Not very durable but hell, its good enough and chrome carbides can be sharpened on ceramic unlike vanadium or tungsten carbides, which are harder than the stone.

Nothing your Bugout can do that the Ozark can’t and I rather spend $10 and I bought a couple to have in my truck and packs. The Ozark is honestly the way to go than pay $200 for just a brand name.
Except I bought that Bugout in 2018 when that version came out. It was $130 back then and the Bugout doesn't have lock or pivot play after 6 years. So you are correct that it can't do what the Ozark was able to do in just weeks.
If anyone has a buyout with broken springs I just swapped them out and they are compatible with my benchmade. But I put the spring back in the ozark trail knife to test it out
I feel like at $10 and having good action and a blade steel that isn’t shit: this knife should be called “The People’s Bugout”. Looks like a great gift knife, or stocking stuffer for non-knife person family members.
For a river knife, or a day you need to really beat a knife it’s really not bad for the price. Much rather lose this than a penguin or something, my typical beater.
Hi, subbed, d2/crossbar/ball bearings for $10 & it's just ok? I can afford $200 plus but I like VALUE. I bought 4, 3 to gift & one to rotate as an edc. No offense, you are a knife snob. Good video, thx.
I also like value and I look at it in terms of cost per year of ownership. I bought the Bugout when the green and gray variant was first released. The price back then was right at $130. Having it 6 years now it's cost me about $23 a year to have and use. It still has plenty of life in it and will continue to give even more value. Sure there is value in this $10 knife , however, it just won't take the place of my Bugout or other light knives I already have.
This guy is just hating that he overspent on Benchmade. I love the bug out but it is way overpriced. I used to be a steel snob also but I’m over it and now I enjoy a lot more knives

If anyone has a buyout with broken springs I just swapped them out and they are compatible with my benchmade. But I put the spring back in the ozark trail knife to test it out
To fly into a random town and go into walmart to get a good locking system and a good steel. Its far worth the buy.
That would be nice except as of late it seems these knives are made once and that's it.
He's Baaaaaacckk😂
Check out kershaw iridium in d2 love to see that tested just got one fit,and finish are actually kinda good.
I have a Kershaw Cargo in D2 coming that was $19. I'll be testing that one.
Fast sharpening is not a good sign for what should be a hard steel with high edge retention
Did you really just compare a bugout to an ozark trail straight up?
Yes I did and a video on value will explain why.
This guy is just hating that he overspent on Benchmade. I love the bug out but it is way overpriced. I used to be a steel snob also but I’m over it and now I enjoy a lot more knives
Everyone has their own opinion, I just like the Bugout much more. If I were to lose mine I'd buy another at the current price without issue.
I tried yesterday to get one. They were out of stock.
I bet after so many channels posted about them they are going to be hard to find.
D2 is supposed to be a good tool steel ??
It's ok
Bro must work for Benchmade 😂 jk jk.
Modify it with a better blade your good to go
Links for the stone?
Search the Grit-o-matic site for Venev resin bonded diamond stones. They come in many sizes and grit combinations for the 25% or 100% concentration finish.
For 10 bux its a good value knife that I wouldnt be to mad about losing if I dropped it into the water while fishing. 😂
The difference is a Butterfly 🦋 and $150 .
This thing is cheaper than even most temu d2 knives. I really don't think it can be beat sub $30.
I'm going to talk about that in a knife value video that will be up in a couple days.
New to your channel, so not seeing you test it was a disappointment.
I have a second one to test and I'll make an old style video of that one. I do plan on doing some other testing on this one and that will be the video.
@@Outpost_76 Thank you, but don't let me push you to do that unless it was already on your mind. I was just new to your channel and don't have the benefit of knowing your testing methods like some of your older subscribers likely do. I do appreciate the work you have already put into it. Thanks!
For $10 bucks, how could you not.....I've spend more for less, many times. Better than gas station knives, and a decent parting gift to boot!
Expectations are really low at ten bucks.
Might be okay to throw in a toolbox. But it is useless otherwise for me. It is right hand carry only.
Has anybody tested that crossbar? I find many of them to be dubious.
I'll find out
