People will go to great lengths to put down budget items to justify what they overpaid for. A $10 knife that holds a decent edge is more valuable than any $200 knife to me. A knife to me is a tool, the most abused tool I own. I will never go through enough $10 knives to justify a $200 knife. Lose a $10 knife, go buy another one, lose a $200 knife and spend all day looking for it. Being a bit gritty only affects people sitting around flipping it open, not real world users. The best knife I have ever carried, and still carry today, is a $15 Benchmade 940 Chinese knockoff.
I agree, if this Ozark trail knife is used for normal pocket knife stuff and not as a fidget toy, it will perform just fine. It's a $10 knife not a work of ART! On a side note, I have a couple of these Ozark trail knives in use and I have found if you put some light oil in the pivot before you start using the knife and don't over tighten the pivot ( trying to get rid of any tiny bit of side play) it will break-in very nice and run smooth.
@@wayneanderson991 nah, it’s not much easier when you have a fixed angled sharpener. I have lots a D2 knives, and that’s what I carried for years before 14c28n was invented. 14c is way easier to strop than D2, and it takes an even sharper edge. Yes there are two ways to look at it. 1. It's only ten bucks don't expect much and if you lose it or it goes to shit well you don't have much invested. On the other hand it's ten bucks that could have been put towards a better knife. I have several Chinese knives. Oddly three of them, two civivis and one cjrb that I noticed the liners are rusting which is weird because none of my other knives have that problem and I take good care of all my knives. I have a dozen or so knives in the $100 - $225 range those are the knives that over time I continue to really like and would feel bad if I lost. But yeah it's ten bucks.
You don’t get it Lance English. It IS a ten dollar knife. What if Walmart fixed everything and charged $15 for the knife? You wouldn’t want to promote discourse and take that chance? We want knives that work well, regardless of the cost. I don’t want a knife that I can hear fucking breaking everytime I open it. Knives aren’t THAT disposable to me or a lot of knife guys I know. No one wants to use a knife that’s breaking faster than the blade is wearing.
Thanks for doing this! As impressed as I've been by the performance I've gotten it's nice to get a peek under the skirt. Nothing here is too shocking, I still think it's the best burner knife on the market.

You probably love the knife for its positive impact on the community availability of d2 and axis lock for such a good price. You’re simply sharing your object findings that the knife has mechanical issues that may hamper its long term use and longevity. You’re probably wanting to promote discourse in the community to raise awareness and help fix this problem or have Walmart fix these issues. You took the time to take the knife apart and sharpen the damn thing 8 times. THANK YOU BRO. YOUR WORK IS IMPORTANT. WE NEED TO LET WALMART KNOW WHAT WE THINK. KEEP IT UP. MAYBE THEY COME OUT WITH A $15 KNIFE AND IT FIXED EVERYTHING.
I was lucky enough to get one when this knife first went viral. I've carried it and used it basically as a fidget toy for the past 3 weeks, or so. I noticed the grittiness in the action. I tried super lube Grease, prolong and WD-40 silicone. What seemed to work best was all purpose wheel bearing Grease. I should have greased it up when I first got the knife to prevent the wear but I didn't because it had bearings.
Finally, someone takes it apart! On the upside, it looks like those omega springs would be compatible with the Bugout, so that's nice for $10 and likely eventually easy to find at any Walmart. These could be a good source for mod parts, or a good platform to mod/test on.

Behaves like anyone who’s actually used a $10 knife should expect, which is why people typically don’t recommend $10 knives. I’m still perplexed at the hype around these. Especially when at $25+ you’ll start getting into knives that’ll last the average person years/decades.
I've got knives that cost the same or less than this (from Ozark Trail and others) that have lasted for years as daily users/beaters opening foil coffee packets at work, collapsing/cutting up cardboard boxes, opening Amazon packages and all the other odd jobs I run into around the house and at work... I'm not saying they are as good as knives that are $15, $20, $25, or more from budget companies like SRM/Ganzo/Opinel/Victorinox... They aren't. I'm just saying that dismissing knives out of hand because of their price or implying a cheap knife won't last for years (provided you don't abuse it) is short-sighted. Sometimes you get a knife that is good. Sometimes you get something that is junk. As for why people get hyped by these sorts of knives... For what they cost if they're a decent quality beater knife, people feel like they've gotten a bargain. Most people love a bargain. And TBF, most people aren't as picky about knife quality as enthusiasts tend to be. The "average person" just needs a knife that cuts. And assuming the user can sharpen even modestly well, most "cheap knives" will cut and continue to cut for years as long as they aren't abused.
True. My $24 Ganzos in 440C flat out get it done and have never let me down. I buy expensive Spydercos, Benchmade, ZT etc as well and work them hard too but when it's time to open 20 bags of concrete or scrape silicone from a porcelain bathtub etc 9 times out of 10 I reach for a junker. And a $24 Ganzo, Eafengrow or whatever fills the role perfectly. And if it's a couple months before I clean the concrete from the pivot, so be it. I'm not gonna cry over it. Conversely, when it's time to show off my daily carry, I grab the Benchmade, Spyderco or Quiet Carry. I use the right tool for the job.
I don't get the people spending $20. to $30. in gas driving around to every Walmart to buy a $10. knife either. I really don't get those paying $100. to $300. for a knife either. I EDC a $9.97 Kershaw Hotwire assisted opening knife. Razor sharp, small enough to not no it's clipped in my pocket and will poke holes in a kidney or sever a vein if need be. I also have a cheap $15. Chinese Amazon knife that resembles the old school stiletto's sort of. It's heavy, came dull but is now razor sharp. Assisted opening. It had several issues like a burr from a screw hole that wouldn't let the scale seat properly. But I cleaned it up, lived it with microlube. I carry it around the yard when I'm out there just in case. My favorite knife is a Ruike 105B. I can't say enough about the quality of that one. It's a beast. A little on the heavy side and too nice to carry around. The most expensive knife I bought was a SOG Flash 2. That one was $50. lost it at work for a couple of hours and spent time looking for it before an engineer found it and asked if it was mine. That one is razor sharp. The most expensive knife I own I found at the movie theater on top of a toilet paper dispenser. It looked like a cheap knife to me. Turns out it's a Skallywag Blackwater Folder. Runs $200. It doesn't have a scratch on it. Flicks open smoothly. And has an aggressive looking blade. It's D2. I don't like the metal scales. I think that's why it looks like a cheesy knife. I have a thing for finding knives. I found a Swisstech knife in the box, in a Walmart bag, in a cart in the parking lot. I don't know what Walmart sells them for. I wish it had the receipt and I would have returned it. But I gave it to my brother for Christmas. Lol
I took mine apart as soon as I got it home several weeks ago. Absolutely no threadlocker on any of the screws on mine. IMO, this is a nice blade attached to a POS handle. If the blade is off-center, you can apply pressure with your thumbs to the center of the side the blade tip is closest to, while applying pressure to the ends of the scales in the opposite direction ( kind of banana shaped pressure). That will center the blade. But that also demonstrates how flimsy this knife is. I'm tired of hearing "THIS IS AN AMAZING KNIFE, (for the price)." My $19 Ganzo G721 auto in 440c is immensely better, and sturdier, than this OT knife, IMO. It will be around long after this OT has failed.
bought one and have been playing with it for 2 weeks. Not a bad 10 knife. I am suspicious of the steel being D2. I like D2 and love power D2 like PSF27 this steel took flats on the blade cutting a 1/4 weed in the back yard. Edge geometry is nice for a general purpose blade. Its worth 10.oo for sure....btw sending the blade out to get spectrographed to see what steel it is
There is way better out there for 30. But its the best 10 knife I have ever owned for sure. After carrying for a week I'm even more suspicious of the D2 claim. But this one is going in my glove box and the other in my off shore tackle box. Its a good 10 bucks spent
You're dissecting this $10 dollar knife like it's an overly expensive super premium knife! 😂....people it's $10 bucks. It's not going to be the best of anything. It has a great edge on it. It cuts stuff. It goes in your pocket. It has a handle. Voila....a knife.
I dont understand why you nit pick this knife. Its a 10 dollar knife ==what do you expect. throw it away and get another one or buy a better made knife. just my thoughts.
What an absolute turd. It's guaranteed to not be actual D2 as well. Wal Mart's Ozark Trail brand is every bit as dishonest as any other clone company like Ganzo, Kubey, Sanrenmu, Eafengrow, etc

Lol
It’s a $10 beater pocket knife. ‘Nuff said.
. . .$10 beater pocket knife with D2 steel that has a descent heat treatment. . .
My greatest concern…is SpaceX using those bearings.
It will be around long after this OT has failed.
cat saying hello @ 2:53
I knee someone would notice. They just don't leave me alone anytime I go outside.
This is the first video I’ve seen of someone taking this overhyped pos apart, thank you 🙏
@@jordangas8817 you're welcome
ITS A $10 D2 KNIFE! 😂😂😂 well worth the price.
If someone were handy enough to put in a thicker pivot, then it'd be perfect.
Yea, that's not good lol. Guess people should stick to ganzo/srm for cheap d2/cheap crossbar
bought one and have been playing with it for 2 weeks. Not a bad 10 knife. I am suspicious of the steel being D2. I like D2 and love power D2 like PSF27 this steel took flats on the blade cutting a 1/4 weed in the back yard. Edge geometry is nice for a general purpose blade. Its worth 10.oo for sure....btw sending the blade out to get spectrographed to see what steel it is
Other channel tested the hardness at around 59hrc
So you proved that it's worth $30! Cool!
There is way better out there for 30. But its the best 10 knife I have ever owned for sure. After carrying for a week I'm even more suspicious of the D2 claim. But this one is going in my glove box and the other in my off shore tackle box. Its a good 10 bucks spent
You go through alot to put down a $10 knife.. Everyone in the world likes to cry absolutely anything and everything your proof..
@@JohnPeters80 not about absolutely anything, just a $10 knife that has issues.
nice
You're dissecting this $10 dollar knife like it's an overly expensive super premium knife! 😂....people it's $10 bucks. It's not going to be the best of anything. It has a great edge on it. It cuts stuff. It goes in your pocket. It has a handle. Voila....a knife.
$9.96 knife. 🤷🏻♂️
Whine whine whine
@@sarahdoyle1658 which clone trash company do you work for?
@@dualsportoutdoors
Dont cry little trumper
@@dualsportoutdoorsGo buy a plastic benchmade that I can snap in half
@@rockstarauthority7354 you can't snap a Bugout in half. @outpost76 saw my video back when I ran a channel where I beat the hell out of a Bugout and it wouldn't break. Zach's Stuff still has a video up where he beats on it and runs it over with his car and it's fine. If a car can't break a Bugout, you can't
Ozark Trail is nothing but garbage from Walmart.
Pretty much across the line up.
Generally enjoy your content. Obviously you have a passion for knives. You've outdone yourself on this knife and what it means to folks that enjoy knives. First of all if you're not smart enough to fix it take it back and get your money back! Dude you're talking coated D2, bearings, contoured handles, razor thin geometry for $10 and all you can do is bitch, whine and complain. This knife absolutely outdoes anything ever offered at this price point period. Your persistence to advocate for over inflated companies ,and knife steels is at best incompetent. This knife kicks ass and in spite of your inclination to whine and complain you can take it back to Wal-Mart and get your $10 back.
That's funny the orange Ozark Trail didn't come in a box😂 No worries it's Walmart they'll take it back no questions asked.
Why is everyone going OUT OF THEIR WAY to use a cheap 10 dollar knife...
I have a video coming talking about just this point.
Why not? I would rather use a $10 Wally World knife than a $180 bugout (as an example. One is worth the price one is not. 🤷🏻♂️ Furthermore, this knife will be plenty of knife for most people. Opening packages and processing cardboard.
@joelamaro4525 then order any 10$ knife you want why this one if I need a knife and any knife will do I'm not waiting til this one comes back in stock..... don't understand all the hype surrounding *this* one they made so much money on this
@@AlanMarcaski-hw5mu because from what I have seen and heard from people who have used it is it’s the best $10 knife you can buy. So if you want to spend $10 on a knife why not buy the best one you can? This knife is available at my Walmart but I haven’t been bored enough to buy it yet. I might eventually and just leave it in the garage. But my current carries are a Maxace Mamba, Kizer Towser K in Elmax, and an Orion Cetus. Some people think even those are too expensive to actually use. lol
@joelamaro4525 those are all models I'd like to check out, I carry a second knife to pass to people because my edc endura has hand carved custom cf scales on it and it's usually a Ganzo which for 20$ are the best knives ever made EDIT I've seen a lot online that shows this Ozark trail isn't particularly better than anything else at anything, their QC is not good
It's a 10 dollar knife🤷♂🙄
You need to get a life. It's a 10 dollar knife.
You're a poet and didn't know it.
So they saved 10c by not including a brass washers for the bearings....SIGH
That'll definitely be plain glue, not thread locker 🫤
My question is why do a video that is out of stock and has been for 3 weeks? It doesn't look like they are making anymore.
I've had a lot of viewers ask for this video and that way those that have one have an idea what to expect.
You think Walmart doesn't plan to do another run of a $10 item that sold out in days and had people asking for it at every Walmart in the country?
$10.00 so what, cost more than that to order new bearings - Toss it and buy A new one
