What I loved the most about Voyager and their first contacts is how they are by chance, not Starfleet scheduled design. It gave them the ability to bring in deadly foes they never would have chosen to meet making the Delta Quadrant often feel like Australia on Earth, something lurking around every corner wanting to kill you.

This video features some of the "AI enhanced" Voyager episodes I've seen online. Honestly, the edges of peoples faces looks "off" - everyone looks more like a changeling than human. I am surprised that paramount hasn't updated DS9 and Voyager to HD. I'm aware that they lost money doing a "proper HD" update to TNG, however, I know that there are ways to make the picture better but not the "Odohansed" version!

#10 That episode "Course: Oblivion" has the BEST flyby sequence in all of Star Trek. When the real Voyager is is at max warp tying to get in range of the doomed crew, something about how the camera angle is a skew, how fast Voyager flys by, and the camera isn't keeping pace with Voyager. It's one of the only times in all of Trek I've ever felt that the ship in question is actually pushing it's limits based on the visual alone. Normally this is told out with a narrative, but in that 4 second shot, I can see it, and I feel it.
I would like to see a list of similar flybly shots.

Maybe you should do a video about Janeway's crimes, the choices she made that would have got her removed from command, demoted, or imprisoned if there weren't extreme circumstances, like Kirk stealing the Enterprise got him demoted, but if Janeway did the same in the Delta Quadrant, the brass would just say good job getting your crew home, here is an Admiral rank

I've been of the opinion that, thanks to Mulgrews comments about Janeway, a lot of her issues are due to having a mental issue that may have been exacerbated by other things along the way, but the treatment isn't one that can be easily replicated or at all, meaning that she's across the galaxy and her mental state degrades rather quickly, perhaps a cure is found in the time they're gone or she's just back on her meds for later appearances post Voyager's return...or it's something that future Admiral Janeway gave her to fix it.
I also, kind of, think that her Admiral rank is also a way to put her out of the way. I believe she was present during Borg Encounter, in charge of that research station as an Admiral while Voyager was being worked on, which would work since Seven was supposedly there as well and the entire Borg thing with it that she might have a clue about her future self's anti-Borg virus.
Not sure of the timeline, but I think that information she might have had about things could be why Picard and the Enterprise was ordered to stay away from the Borg attack in First Contact, thinking of what happened with regard to Seven with the Queen fucking with her head there...

Janeway followed Starfleet directives, so any culpability lies with their shortcomings. She wasn't a war criminal like Sisko, she tried to get her crew home with Starfleet rules.

    • @scorch2155

The reason it was forgiven was because of the situation, yes in the Alpha quadrant things work different, there is an entire fleet and safe harbor not far away so easy to hold accountable and expect behaviors.
You can't exactly expect 100% following those same rules by a ship that has zero support, back up or safe harbor. Its why it was forgiven for the rules that were broken because strict aderhance to the rules in that situation would be the pinical of stupidity and how you get yourself killed.
Rules are fine and dandy when not in a survival situation.
Plus for the vast majority of the time she did follow starfleet rules but we've seen before the rules are not black and white and habe been bent and broken many times without issues. Starfleet clearly undergrads rules are not black and white.

there was that water planet that Paris did somethign so bad on, he got demoted for it.
or the planet that in the past, received a "Friendship 1" probe from Earth, and ended up using it's technology to unintentionally destroy themselves. The Voyager crew found the wreckage later on.

    • @AzraelThanatos
      @AzraelThanatos Рік тому +4

The Water Planet one is kind of a mess since it's one where Voyager involved itself in what was, essentially an internal dispute that would have killed the civilization...someone on the other side convinced Tom to help and fix the problem...and that's what got Tom in trouble on Voyager.
It was basically Voyager only talking to one side in a Civil War, which is revealed during how Tom conveys the events in the letter he's writing to his father...sure, they weren't giving arms, but they were only talking to one side which IS getting involved by giving more legitimacy to them...and to make things worse, it was the other side that actually turned out to be correct there because the conflict was due to one side not believing that the machinery that kept the water spheres together and functioning was breaking down and needed repairs, the side Janeway was talking to was, essentially, claiming that nothing was wrong and that going there was, essentially, heresy...
It was a really fucked up situation...
For the Friendship 1 probe, that's more of a Second Contact after a disaster coming from a first contact...and got Kerry killed over it

  • @michaeltortorice9876

Thumbs up for L. E. Fontana alone. And for my own sake, that's all I'm going to say on that.
A Voyager-centric video without Ellie on lead... I'm calling shenanigans.
I found the demon planet clone Voyager endlessly fascinating, and no less so because no one but we the viewers ever knew they existed.
This video is another in the long list of examples of why Janeway had it the hardest of all Star Trek captains. We like to joke (or some of us do) that it's Tuesday, Janeway must be breaking the Prime Directive. But realistically, in that quadrant (I always get Delta and Gamma confused), she IS Starfleet. There's no one to report to or ask advice or permission. All of these disasters as well as any triumphs (like getting home in seven years as opposed to seventy, or successfully dodging the question of Harry's potential promotions in that same period), are squarely on her. And I think it's safe to say she handled it like a champ. So when the question of who is the best Star Trek captain inevitably comes up again, it's hard not to say Janeway.
Edit: And I just realized "Delta Flyer" might possibly be a clue as to the quadrant. But I still may not be smart enough to get it.

"Course Oblivion" absolutely gutted me. As I've grown older, the creeping realization that someday we all will be completely forgotten has become stronger. There is death, then there is oblivion. The only possible cold comfort might be that someday in the future, another Federation starship will visit the system containing the Y-class planet they tried to land on. Perhaps that future starship crew will learn of the duplicate Voyager from the race that controlled it and be able to piece together the story? Everyone deserves to be remembered and acknowledged, even if it is only for a while. When I first watched that episode, I could not hold back the tears.

The plot holes in this episode bothered me way too much, it was established that the duplicates couldn't leave the planet as they needed the planets gases to breathe, yet they still did with no mention of that, also at what point after they left the planet did they start to forget? And did it happen simultaneously to everyone because if not someone should have remembered as they were leaving. Lastly where did this duplicate ship come from? It wasn't shown to have been there when they left the first time 😕 so many questions.

    • @zomfragger

Given their transporter technology it was only a matter of time before the Sikaraians would encounter the borg. Voyager having encountered them before the events in Scorpion in my interpretation would have little effect. The fact that it was restricted to be used by the queen gives weight that the borg might not know enough about Sikaraian to allow for full deployment throughout the collective.

    • @generalilbis
      @generalilbis Рік тому +2

I'm willing to do some headcanon work and say the Borg gained the spacial trajector tech and studied the hell out if it till they found a workaround to the issue of needing Sikarria's special crystalline mantel to make it work. But the workaround limits the amount of mass you can move...which would fix the issue of the tech being an escape pod alternative for Borg Queens.

And people deride James Kirk for leaving a trail of busted supercomputers and primitive firearms in his wake.
The funniest one, though, was a SCE novel where one of the guards was from Iotia, from TOS A Piece of the Action, where a cultural followup team from the 'Feds' shows up and the Iotians have not only reverse-engineered the Communicator Bones lost, but the entire planet is now indistinguishable from a Starfleet base, except for remaining speech patterns, like the guard calling the female security chief "Babe" - which is not Stsrfleet protocol even in the SCE.

Never liked that The Think Tank cured The Phage when they live so far away from the Vidiians in the first place... So either it is a continuity mistake (wouldn't be the first nor the last) or they are simply lying to artificially boost their credentials as their objective was to add 7/9 to their Think Tank.
Sean, you should have left your lovely counterpart present that episode since it's a Voyager centric one.
As for spatial projection tech, many species seem to have it, such as the Iconians as well, not just the Sicarians or the Vadwar... although it doesn's necessarily work the same way.

Voyager didn't have much luck at all. And somehow the ship looked immaculate (ie repaired) every episode. Part 2 of this list should contain the Kazon, the Ocampans - Voyager crew effectively kidnap Kes, the industrial planet (Workforce) where all the crew had their minds wiped, the episode with the Doctor's emitter & Da Vinci and Voyager's gear being stolen, Friendship One, Blink of an Eye...

Hey, Sean. Small slip-up in your narration about the Vaadwaar. It was Neelix who discovered the history of the Vaadwaar - referencing the meaning of the word, "foolish" from the old tongue, and various Talaxian folk tales.

As I understood the problem with the spatial trjector was less of a compatibillity problem but more that it needed their star as a gravitanioal source or so and if they would travel with the trajector they would loos the ability to control the course...

Call it head canon the Borg didn’t seem to make deep forays into the area of the Delta Quadrant that Voyager spent its first 2 years in, possibly due to the Nekrit Expanse. They’d encounter the odd Talaxian or Kazon but we know the Sikarians could travel 40,000 light years. So they could have transported deeper into the Delta Quadrant and that’s how the Borg assimilated the Trajector technology leaving Sikaris as we saw it. Not for nothing but the reason the trajector worked was due to the quartz mantle on Sikaris so would stand to reason that it had a limited number of possible destinations. Not so much a Iconian portal more a smaller Stargate network. Probably why we never saw them again.

The Voth should have been mentioned, and then the extradimensional beings the Equinox crew were converting into extra fuel for their engines. Then there was the race that hated any species that was telepathic, when the Voyager had to cross their space, forcing Voyager to hide in transporter streams the few crewmembers who were telepathic.
