I'm sad Garrett Wang never got to really stretch his acting muscles on Voyager. He was deliberately told to be stiff and wooden most of the time. I think he's also the only cast member who never got to direct an episode.
1st off, Garrett Want got to be Captain Plot Device more than anyone else on the show 2nd, Mulgrew, Beltran, Phillips, Ryan & Lien didn't get to direct episodes either.
@@fredcasdensworld My understanding is that Wang is the only who asked who didn't get to direct an episode. I see no reason any of the people you mentioned would have wanted to direct an episode.

One of the great things about Star Trek is how the family ends up staying together in kind of a life-long way because of the cons. Most TV casts, even of the big juggernaut shows, do their time and then go on to other projects and never or rarely see their old castmates again. The cast of Seinfeld is famous for each individually commenting that they're not close these days, although they're all still friendly when they do see each other, for example. It seems like these folks all like each other a lot more now than maybe even they did creating their shows (rumors abound of uncomfortable working environments and cast members who weren't always happy to be there on the DS9 and VOY sets - the TNG cast have always maintained they were friends). But the cons are an easy way to supplement and stabilize your income when you're a performer (even the in-demand folks have lulls they can easily fill with convention income), so they're pretty much all incentivized to participate, and that means getting to be together occasionally (instead of every day for 16 hours a day) year after year. I can see how that, and just the benefit of age and wisdom, might soothe old regrets and build really meaningful friendships. It makes me happy. :)
I love Kate's accent. There's something classic about it. It sounds like a cross between the classic TV accent (that one commonly heard on TV in the '50s and '60s) and East Coast, with a little bit of British thrown in there.
@@jbwarner8626 It definitely must be a cathartic release for actors who play those kinds of characters. If you watch the TNG bloopers, Michael Dorn is always super giggly and breaking character. Same thing with Stargate, Christopher Judge is a total clown between takes.
His impressions were very good, but they were definitely on helium. Kudos to Kate for trying to remind people that children were present in the audience.
His impression of Janeway was actually on less helium than the Doctor... Accurate, I think. Mulgrew's capable of hitting a darker timbre than the Doctor ever did.
I met him at Awesomecon I think 2018? I don't remember which year but he was very funny and did a Kate Mulgrew impression for us. He said don't tell her because she hates it when I do this 😂
A possible reason is simply that it ain't cheap getting so many actors there to attend your convention. They all need free accommodations, travel, and most likely a nice check for attending. Therefore, considering if you have to make a choice between getting one more actor there, or more mics, you choose the one people actually will attend and pay a ticket for. :D
@@MrDoenyon I think you overestimate the cost of renting a mic, like vastly vastly overestimate it. You can buy good wireless mics for around $100. Renting one, as part of an audio/visual package, should just cost a few dollars.
@@AdeleiTeillana Of course, but don't forget how small the budget for those conventions is too. Though you are correct, it's also mostly due to bad planning.
The same reason they only have one mic at a time open for the audience: five people talking at the same time becomes utter incomprehensible gibberish if five microphones are involved. Having fewer forces them to think about who's talking.
It would have been funny if somewhere along the series, someone had threatened the Dr. with, "I'll see to it that your program will end up running a Taxi Cab. "
That's a really good impression of the doctor, I could tell right when Robert started his and I thought his was better. However Janeway did sound like she was on helium, great actress/character but not my favorite speaking voice.
Awesome to see the cast laugh and joke together. All of them except Kate are at a convention right near me in Philadelphia, tonight, and I am not there 😢
The best impression of The Doctor is when Jeri Ryan plays him in Body and Soul.
She was amazing as the doctor 😂
