Your werewolf characters eating the hearts of your enemy is one of the coolest parts of Skyrim.
I wish there was the option to kidnap the leader of the silver hand and turn them into a werewolf. Then just release them in their werewolf form in a silver hand location. It would extremely cool
I love how the Hircine/Werewolf heart eating, Molag Bal/Vampire drinking blood, and Ideal Masters/soul gem filling all have an interesting relationship.
@@babygurleatsshickennuggits4201that seems a little excessively cruel
my headcannon was that the companions had control over the werewolf form due to either their pact with the Glenmoril or their willingness to ritually become werewolves without being infected, something Hircine would appreciate
The best hunter after all is one that is in control of themselves. Clever, patient, cunning. Not a feral beast lashing out at everything within reach.
I hold a similar headcannon too, but I also think that it also involves the nature of the Underforge as part of the ritual, as Skor says "The Underforge taps into Olds Magics" or something similar.
My only guess is maybe how you contract it makes a difference. Say getting scratched or bit by a werewolf you get lycanthropy but with more downsides and less upsides. Where drinking the blood is the ideal method.
@@eddw7650 that too indeed
Just jump into being a wolf
They always scream 'werewolves' but they never ask 'howwolves?'
A true shame, at least Hircine cares about them 😓
We’re werewolves, NOT “swear”wolves!
Werewolves.
Were wolves what?
@@scarletbard6511
Were Wolves harmed in the making of this video? 😳
I'll do you one better, whywolves?
If Hircine was bored enough, he would probably make a Weremoose and set it loose somewhere just for fun
That’s all we need is a Wereroiddeer.
It makes you wonder, if moose existed in TES they'd be in either Highrock or Skyrim most likely.
The were's tend to be predators due to him being the God of the Hunt.
Consider this for Black Marsh... wereotters.
@@Deepkeel Wereturtle?
To challenge Drew on the Lycanthropy as a disease and Hircine not wanting random non-hunters to become his "children" so to speak. I personally disagree heavily. Part of "The Hunt" is survival. If the prey can survive a skirmish with a werewolf I'd say Hircine would see them as worthy of indulging in the hunt to keep on surviving. The fact you are rewarded in his Skyrim questline for either choice you make proves this to me
Yes exactly, Hircine is a fair Daedra he is a big proponent of "Survival of the Fittest!" If you defeat one of his Beasts he respects that and grants you a reward if you fail too bad. Also during his hunt if he wasn't fair he could smite you with barely a thought but, he respects and likes people to have a fair chance. He basically Nerfs himself during his hunts.
Plus he is not above calling a hunt on a werewolf he finds unfit. In that case the prey having lycanthropy just makes the hunt fun for Hircine.
Best ESO Werewolf: Ulthorn the Hound
The Hound is one of the few villains in ESO that you can sympathize with. His society took away his love just because Y'ffre says she is destined for another. He also leads the Houndsmen who worship Hircine because he frees the Bosmer from the restrictions of Y'ffre's Green Pact.
Uthorn is an entitled incel who felt entitled to the green lady regardless of her rejection, and i very much enjoyed making a rug out of him lol
@@autumnalHalcyon The Green Lady loved the Hound until she was literally drawn to the Silvenar by magic after being chosen as the Green Lady.
He was screwed by magic and destiny.
I really hope they don't miss a golden opportunity to give us Wereboars in ES6
Beer-Whores?
Schorry too much to drink. - There is a pub near me called the Boar's Head... which is known, obviously as the Whore's Bed
Definitely let us play as multiple lycanthropes. Maybe a questline where Werewolves are in a territorial war with the Wereboar's and you get to pick a side. Depending on the faction you join determines what would be the dominant strain of lycanthropy in the province. The quests could involve taking territory from the other strain, and finding artifacts of Hircine to ensure your dominance over the area. You'd also gain new powers over the questlines as a gift from the Huntsmen himself, of course he sees this as a bit of sport.
The other strain would still exist after the quest, but they'd be in far fewer number and a more rare encounter.
The questline wouldn't be forced after obtaining lycanthropy. If you get infected with lycanthropy of either type, it would be entirely possible to go at being a lone wolf without a clan backing you. Thus never starting the questline.
@@ryklatortuga4146
Wait, how is a Pub called the Boars Head the same as a place called the Whores Bed?? You got me confused now 😅
well if it's really in hammerfell and highrock. I kinda hope we get two forms of lycanthropy
It shouldn't be too hard to just use different skins or even to put in effort to animate two. Considering how ham they're going on ES6 to begin with.
Wereboars from high rock. Maybe werelions or hyenas from hammerfell?
@@thalmoragent9344 look up "Spoonerism" - it is an English ... thing ... of swapping the first consonant on two words. Bunny Rabbit = Runny Babbit
I think Hircine's quest in elder scrolls 6 should be a blood hunt to determine if a man can stand against his various werebeasts and you end up in a large field/forest with all his werebeasts spawned (1 of each) in various random areas and you kill 2 or 3 before Hircine deems you worthy and you get to choose your form as his gift.
On the lycanthropy as a disease, it could be a way to both bless and punish one who managed to kill a werebeast.
In order to catch it, you need to survive a werebeast attack, something unlikely to happen if you're just an ordinary peasant with no interest, let alone experience in hunting. Average man or mer would only survive if a hunter (experienced combatant) saved them, where the affliction could serve as a way to taunt those who lived. The random merchant due to not actually being saved as they are now cursed, and the hunter for failing to do their duty.
In the cases without a random farmer about to get mauled. The illness could be seen as a reward for being able to best one of Hircine's chosen as you proved that you were the superior hunter, but it could also serve as a curse because you embarrassed Hircine by killing one of his chosen hunters, declaring that they aren't the apex predators Hircine boasts them to be, mocking their existence.
Just a potential view of things.
*Edits: typos mostly
I like this! I also feel that Hircine would punish/be pissed at one of his Hounds for “failing” to kill their intended prey. If a hunter got in the way and their prey escaped they’re is an idiot for not properly scoping out the area, or for not judging what prey they could handle. If their prey is a random adventurer and still survived, then man Hircine would consider them a weakling.
Either way, if a Hound fails to kill everyone they attempt to kill, they probably get punished.
I love moonlight tales as a werewolf mod, I have it set to transformations only during a full moon and I would plan out where I could go and when, hold off on going to town until morning, and every now and then I would forget and would show up in town and would accidentally start transforming so I would scramble to get away.
Growl is another really good one that also has lunar transformations. It's not as feature heavy as Moonlight tales but it feels much cleaner, how Lycantrhopy should have been in the vanilla. It is so much more immersive when you have to think about the moon phases and avoid being in town when the moons are full or near full.
"accidentally" transform in windhelm or your least favorite hold. or challenge yourself with a big city like riften.
i don't remember witch mod, but theirs a perk tree mod where it converts your magica into bonus health, would be cool to play as a glass cannon mage until the full moon hits your skin, morphing you into a juggernaught beast.
no theirs one that turns your magica into HEALTH. sure it's not as usefull as more sprint juicel but it's perfect for a jeckle and mr. hyde like roleplay.
I use moonlight tales as well, I personally use the warg preset because the full moons were a little too easy to prepare for, but the full moon one is more thematic
I have it set to always transform on a full moon, have a higher chance of transforming the closer the moon is to full, and never transform on a new moon. Keeps things fun and slightly unpredictable, with me occasionally having to book it outta town if I’m about to transform.
Silver has been well established in general media to be a werewolf's weakness. It's usually used in the form of a bullet, but any kind of silver would work. Because silver is a "holy metal," unholy creatures such as undead and werecreatures cannot touch it.
Hircine is my favorite Daedric Prince
2:21 "Furry army"
...
That image is somehow both super funny and super scary at the same time. 🤣
the glenmoril witches could have something to do with the companions not losing control of their wolf. i mean you do need their head to cure it
Since the "lycan" part of lycanthropy refers to wolves, were boars and were bears should be porcinthropy and ursinthropy respectively or something like it.
Yep, also if you look at historical legends/myths like the Greeks/Romans. According to the legend a mortal king named Lycaon (something like that) was favored by the gods but he decided to test Zeus by offering him human flesh disguised as a meal Zeus recognized it and killed the king's children and turned Lycaon into the first Werewolf and thus Lycanthropy.
Baconthropy.
Well if you look at the evolutionary line of bears, you’d realize that they are related to canines. Through the sub-order genus Carnivora. So it would fit into Skyrim lore quite fine. Not 100% accurate which bothers me, and I really do like the idea of giving it a proper name like ursinthropy or porcinthropy, just tryna say that it technically fits all right!
@@halfbakedhooligan then there's weresharks and werecrocs and lycanthropy falls apart lol
Yeah but Lycanthropy sounds real cool
This might sound selfish, but please, keep doing these podcasts and lore videos as much as possible! I realise finding relevant content for games of this age is increasingly difficult, but I always look forward to the next video or podcast. Thanks as always Fudgemuppet!
On your point about Hircine changing his rules I'd say he doesn't change his rules, they just follow a strict hunters code derived from nature and instinct. If an individual were to dedicate themselves to hunting werecreatures simply because they want to kill them, or prove they're better, then Hircine would act against them. However if someone became the prey of a werecreature but used wits and guile to flip the hunt and become the hunter, then Hircine would show great respect to the display of skill and instinct and would likely reward the survivor.
if vamp npcs slept during the day, a stealth based execution using wooden stakes would be cool :) i'd go for the stakes needing to be blessed by god-tier entity via a shrine or acolyte.
Make the wooden swords useful, increased damage against vampires.
I read some theory that the companions aren't "true" werewolves, because you are never bit, it's some weird blood witch curse. It was really in depth I wish I could find it, but how to cure it had a lot to do with it, all you had to do in Morrowind was drink a potion, Skyrim you have to burn witch heads and fight a ghost wolf that was inside you, like it was possessing you.
We need more were-creatures in TES 6!
If its Hammerfell/Highrock we could see Werewolves, Wereboars, Werelions (since its close to the Elsweyr boarder), and the elusive Wereshark potentially. That's all dependant on if Bethesda makes it happens.
@@lazilycatharticone4191 don't forget wereswords. If TES6 will be taking place in Hamerfell, I hope to see werecurvedswords🙃
@Matt Volkien i hope we see Griffins.
Werecrocs
@Matt Volkien some of the mounts were a bit much, and ESO retroactively re-wrote lore just to make microtransaction mounts make sense. I personally don't think every aspect of the game needs to be fantastical. Maybe a few interesting unique mounts would be cool, but if I see farmers riding atronarchs in a trailer, I'm not playing it.
With the summoning of spectral werewolves and wolves I thought of it as how it's described, it's a totem, like totemic beast magic. Something in like a profane druidic power.
Canis root smearing and the companions wiped out all the werebears in Skyrim
I guess those two things were unBEARable
There is a temple of were bears at the top of the mountain with the ruins solstheim?
@@alw2839 well, yeah but solsteim isn’t part of the mainland of Skyrim. That’s why it was considered part of the province of Morrowind for a long time
@@alw2839 Yeah, Solstheim was a neglected part of Morrowind for a long time, like IRL Alaska before the US discovered oil there. I feel like Morrowind bought Solstheim for cheap, too….
@@Wired_User They did buy it for cheap, considering all the goodies on it.
Back when the game came out, werewolves were the coolest thing. It is safe to assume that due to the popularity of it we will definitely see it again in TES6. While Werebears came later in the Dragonborn DLC, I would assume that they have taken note to diversify the Werebears in their own lore. They may not let players become a wereboar or anything else besides a werewolf, but you will definitely fight one.
On lycanthropy referring to either man-wolf only or man-animal generally. I just watch Shadiveristy talking about boomerangs where he says most of the actual examples of throwing-stick-weapons did not return to the wielder but in popular parlance that is what people mean when they refer to the boomerang-effect.
The word boomerang comes from aboriginal language/s and that is what stuck.
We could headcanon the word Lycanthrope based on Cyrodiclic scholars being familiar with werewolves and then foreigners like Nords/Brets taking the Cyrodilic term, not understanding it fully, and then applying it for all shapeshifting things of daedric origin.
I'm sure we do the same with Latin terms today, and since Cyrodil is basically fantacy-roman empire... when in rome :)
Bro I also just watched Shads vid on that ! Lol
@@pelinalwhitestrake1176 Yea I'd imagine there is a lot of crossover with Shad and Fudge viewers :)
Yeah. Also note Lycan technically lykos means wolf and Anthropos means man or manlike. Lykos Anthropos to Lycanthrope.
The last time I was this early the fast and the furious series was about street racing and stealing dvd players.
If iron weapons did bonus damage to Sprigons, I’d be down
'were' is a saxon word originally meaning 'male'. thanks for reading my ted talk and thanks to the fudgemuppets for all their fantastic content :)
It feels like a missed opportunity that in the Dragonborn DLC you can't become a Werebear. Imagine wandering the Solsthime wilderness and bumping into three men in ragged trousers. At first they seem normal enough, but then they suddenly transform into large bipedal bears. You run for your life, but not before one scratches you, and the next time you look in your active effects, you notice something new...
*-25 Stamina, progress to Lycanthropy*
(Basically, I wanna be a Werebear without having to join the Companions...)
THEY DID IT! THE LORE KEEPERS HEARD MY HUMBLE PLEAS AND DID THE EPISODE!
I feel like the term therianthrope would work best as a catch all term for lycanthropes because lycan usually refers to a human turning into a wolf due to the legend of Zues Lycaeus. Whereas therianthrope refers to the general concept of a human turning into an animal or human-animal hybrid. Maybe they could retcon the term into existence in ES6, plus introducing terms like the ones @Sine Nomine referred to would also work well to make this hypothetical retcon to the lore feel more authentic in its introduction.
I like the idea of a lycanthropy system that has times where you are assured to transform and not transform, and some times where its not assured. so you get a bit of both. like, for example YOU WILL NOT transform while the moon is waining, but there is a chance that you might transform while its waxing or some time after the half moon. and when its the full moon you are guaranteed to transform.
that way you can have times of assurance and times of uncertainty. or maybe something more regular. you might always transform on sundays, monday-friday you wont, but Saturday is up in the air.
"Beasts all over the shop . . . you'll be one of them soon enough."
- Father Gascoigne
Companions came from a curse so that would explain why their lycanthopy was modified due to the Magic of the witches
I thought they can control the transformation because they are great hunters/warriors and have Hircine's blessing.
@@MoraqVos They have his blessing now but what about back then. The beast blood has been in them for only a couple hundred years. Which over time they could have earned his blessing
@@garybirch2520 At the start of the Beastblood in Companions wasn't a curse was also a blessing of sorts. Yes Kodlak, Farkas, and Vilkas consider it a curse. The first Harbinger who turned them to Beastblood regretted it momentarily before accepting being taken to Hircine's Realm the rest of the Companions went willingly until Kodlak who was given the choice. Anyway all the Companions with the Beastblood could control it. For example Kodlak, Farkas, and Vilkas choose to not change until could be cured (unless surrounded like in the Companion Questline.) They succeeded with that and then be cured by you.
I am slightly disappointed this episode isn't named "were-lions, were-tigers, and were-bears... oh my" lol
I'm very impressed and happy you guys still make elder scrolls content
If there isn't a pirating quest and I don't see a wereshark I'm gonna be disappointed.
Silver does x2 damage to werewolves, same in Bloodmoon and Skaal silver weapons did x4 damage!
Pretty certain for the companions lycanthropy not forcing changes is a combo between the gift being blessed through a magical ritual and the fact they are strong willed.
I like what the original moonlight tales mod did where the screen starts to get orange and shaky and you can adjust forced transformations with the moon phase. If you had hircines ring you could revert form after it being forced.
"Iron isn't effective against ghosts..."
~The Winchesters have entered the chat.~
Electricity is the best thing because it harms spirits
As usual you come up with content just as I'm about to begin a project. I'm making homemade pretzels. Since I'm going to attack them like a werewolf it's fitting.
Pretzels just remind me of Kingdom Come Deliverance 😂
Adorable😂😂😂 also I felt that in my soul.
Was literally binging some of your podcasts all day. This podcast got me so much more into both elder scrolls lore as well as you guys’ channel. Good on you guys :D
Ah yes, the *Fudgemuppet Tribunal,* once again you've returned to Mundus, welcome. I do believe that a podcast for _Vaermina_ is in order, she's a rather forgotten, neglected Daedric Prince.
(I know you made a short video on her once, like 2 years ago, and that was the last we heard of her, and just like you guys, I don't like how the Thalmor supposedly were using her artifact, given how anti-Daedra they're supposed to be. Sort of takes the nuance right out of it)
Yes! I wanna hear more about the mean dream grannie!
@@Etticos.
Yeah, and also, one of my characters I play is a Dunmer Werewolf, one who actually has devoted himself to Vaermina so he would always have good dreams at night, and give frightening dreams to my enemies, probably those who would dream of my character hunting them or something.
It could be very possible that the companions use their Transformation during the hunts they go on and Hircine allows them to control their power at will. Kinda like an additional reward I suppose.
I love the idea of having different materials having different effects on certain enemies. I just think it would be annoying to carry several swords and shit
Yes very annoying and I hate the idea of larger number of weaknesses. One of the biggest issues with Oblivion was the number of weaknesses.
a slower transformation cycle for involuntary transformations, with maybe a partially changed stage with different social modifiers and responses from npcs would give your character a chance to try and get out of civilisation before they fully turn: this first stage (big teeth, red eyes, more hair) could have npc's only recognise you if you directly interact directly with them, agro dogs to you, and panic livestock.
Is that....Fur?.Coming out of your ears?. Me as a Khajiit.
Damn son, just in time for my morning chores. You guys are the shit ❤
I want to play as a Weregrummite when Sheogorath invents them lol
For the iron vs fey in TES universe, it could work against Hagravens, BriarHearts, Wisps, etc
Also, silver weapons do do extra damage to werecreatures. It happens in Daggerfall ("you need at least a silver weapon" pop up) and Skyrim (it's not mentioned for some reason, but it does happen in the math behind the scenes while attacking one).
I feel like the companions got the benefit of full control through the ritual where they all 100% chose this and as such get more. I think in werewolf mythology it worked like that pretty much where those who did it willingly had more control and power than those who had it forced on them.
I'm with Scott on not liking the ethereal werewolf summons for the exact same reason; makes the werewolf more magical than physical might.
I have a mod that replaces those summons with proper werewolves, which makes more sense and fits with the theme of wolves being pack hunters.
Last time i was this early Skjor told me to meet him near the underforge
You forgot the campaions got their power through the hagravens. Maybe they did something for them to control themselves.
I wish that Drew would start to make audio books! He has such a great voice..
You guys are great. Thanks for the hard work.
Always look forward to these videos. Keep it up guys! You're doing the work of the divines.
love nerding out with you guys every week
You guys are keeping the elder scrolls alive. Keep up the good works guys!
Yay! Been waiting for my Sunday fix! I would love to see a podcast where you guys discuss the mods you can't live without, not necessarily just the graphics ones, but ones that affect gameplay. For me, I have One With Nature, & Run for Your Lives, as well as crafting revamp ones. One With Nature is my absolute favorite because I don't like killing all the animals, so I can set it so they don't attack me.
I should clarify, I meant mods for Skyrim. I haven't played Oblivion in far too long, & I don't have ESO yet.
Just encountered three wear bears in Skyrim I was sooo shook 🤣😭
As a whiterun guard once told me "ugh been tending to your hounds? You smell like wet dog."
Come one 1 million soooo close, I can smell the 1mil subscriber special!
Thanks for all the effort you guys put into these videos!
Yeah they pronounce Wyrd as "weird" in ESO, I wasn't sure either while playing in game until I heard NPCs say it
Might not be a long podcast, but if you've done Vampires and Werewolves you should do a deep dive on Liches!
The were bat looks so cool!
I hope they put Wereboars in es6, be a Redguard with red hair and call myself "Ganondorf". That'll be fun.
Wish that we could have had more werewolf transformations in skyrim, once the models were made and it's behaviors, some minor tweaks and re hashing of some animations we could have had werebear hybrids, but it would be crazy if we could have gotten a unique weremammoth transformation side quest from a mage who was messing with powdered mammoth tusk and werewolf blood and it transformed him and then we could make the potion and become one, just my thoughts on cool stuff
The fighting transforming sounds like a great way to implement quick time events
Ever since this was mentioned in the vampire podcast I’ve been excited!!! Great podcast guys!!!
I like the Werewolf Behemoth, Hircine grants his loyal followers rewards for their hunts and victories. A stronger version of themselves is a type of that reward. Also artificially making them is interesting since it’s like taking the power of what a god can do into mortal hands
Id love to have my own mountable Wereshark/Werevulture in ES ngl.
lets hope ES6 brings more light on this affliction as there are quite a few varients that are still to be introduced in the game world
You just see a Nord riding into battle on a Weremoose
I had a mage named Paston-One eyed. He was a Breton, and when I was playing him, the playstyle slowly turned into this weird but fun sneaky battlemage hybrid class. I did all of the guilds with him and completed all of the DLC’s, and he was completely vanilla, no mods at all. Even though I had hundreds of hours played before that character, that was the first character I made that I actually fully played Skyrim with. But, recently well I was clearing out saves to make room, I accidentally deleted him. I probably put a quarter of my 1,000 hours played into him alone. He was level 70. But, I did console command in the ebony warrior and fought him, and won, but it’s not the same as winning against him legitimately at 81. Rip Paston-one eyed, you will be missed.
Great podcast. Completely agree that there should be some negatives to these afflictions to enhance role playing. I hope Bethesda uses the older games as an influence on TES VI
How much do we know about Werebats? Could they be more related to Molag Bal than Hircine? Could they even be hybrids between the curse of vampirism and lycanthropy?
Nah, they’re a Hircine creation through and through, and they’re far more beastly than any vampire, including the vampire lord. However, I did read somewhere that a few Werebats have been known to ally with vampires.
i found one werewolf out in skyrim when i was playing years ago it killed me and i never saw one in the world like that agin
For the point of nonhunters that become werewolves:
Hircene needs worthy prey as much as he needs worthy hunters.
So excited for this one
this podcast is the best thing to happen to me entertainment wise
I think the lore reason its a disease could be the whole concept of the prey becoming the predator like in his realm, if the prey is skillful enough to escape one of Hircine's chosen hunter's then maybe the are worthy of the beast blood in his eyes (regardless of if they want it or not)
FudgeMuppet and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Sunday is now complete
I've been waiting for this topic!! Fantastic video gents!
I think it would be neat to define the advantages you gain depending on the type of transformation it is. For instance, a wolf/shark would have a better sense of smell in human form, be a good tracker. A bear would be noticeably stronger, able to brawl with the best. A boar would have thick hide, able to take more punishment. Lions more agile, able to run faster, jump higher. I don't know how they'd go about implementing any of this, but it would add so much in terms of building a character for the way you want to play.
They could make a alchemy Potion or whatever that when you take it you won't transform randomly for a set amount of time. But you can transform willingly like once during that time. But make it to where you need specific criteria to craft the Potion.
I would love a were bat and were wolf plus vampire combination.
A wereboar!? That concept is kinda badass 😎
This is the one I've been waiting for!!!
I JUST checked your channel because I was going to watch the video on Were-creatures from 4 years ago 💀 Sum ain't feel right 😂
I think one of the coolest were-creatures is David Eddings' Poledra, a wolf who magically turns into a human. Not Elder Scrolls lore I know, but still.
Instant like for doggos!
Nice road to 1 Mil
Almost there
The Companions don't necessarily contradict the lore.
Their Lycanrhropy is not a curse from a bite like others. Theirs is a power bestowed. So they can control it while people like Sinding got bit or otherwise cursed. Sinding stole the ring to try and have control but Hircine decided to troll him.
Personal lore, some Bosmer are allowed to practice Lycanthropy because of the Wild Hunt. If there weren't some who could control themselves then no Bosmer would be left anytime the Hunt was used. These special werewolf priests make sure the Wild Hunt leaves at least a few Bosmer left.
I think it would be really cool to see the Drawbacks change with the difficulty setting. Casual players get to goof around in Hound Town, and more experienced or RP players have to track the phases of the moon while they are trying to buy antiques.
The wereboar looks a bit like manbearpig
Werebears? Where? Bears? Men that are bears?
The Companions became werewolves after making a pact with some witches, maybe they did some witchcraft to bypass the moon thing
