We have had an easy vegan sausage recipe on my website for a couple of years now, and it has been my most visited post. People have really liked these easy vegan sausages. So today, we want to make a variation of these sausages. We will add some oomph and make them Easy Vegan "Spicy" Sausages.

    I made these sausages (without the hickory powder) and they came out great. I use the same recipe to make hamburgers. I fry these sausages with onions and bell peppers to make an Italian sausage sandwich. I also use these sausages, cut in sections, to make Gyros.
    I'm planning on checking out more of your recipes. Your website is done so professionally, a pleasure to peruse.

    Looks pretty good.i got everything except the gluten.i have a friend that does her vegan meat with walnuts and some of your ingredients and its pretty good.i made some curry with indian curry and i have bern eating it over the past couple days n its pretty good.but your sausage has aditional flavors that i know will go well.and it looks so good.good to know u didnt need maple syrup,because though i love it,i have to make my money stretch a litle.its making me so hungry.i am not fully vegan but i do much of my food vegan.n i would prefer it over any meat sausage because its healthy if you arent gluten intolerant and i know its flavorful becausr of seasonings and it looks pretty good.i will definitely try it.

    I would love it if you could make a recipe using barley. I plan on making these sausages with about a third of the chili flakes you did.

    Can you make these into patties? Thankyou

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, that should work just fine. They still need to be cooked, either steamed or baked. You could try cooking them in a broth, but it does significantly change the shape and consistency.

    Ani, quick question, would it be possible to cook this recipe as one log (as a whole) instead of multiple sausages? Would the steaming time still be approximately an hour? (I am really lazy :-))

    Hi Chef! Coming up with VEGAN and SPICY recipes, as an Indian fan that's all we want to ask for! Btw can you suggest any substitute for wheat gluten as that's not so easily available here?

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому +1

      Good question! It is hard to substitute the vital wheat gluten as it is the binding agent, but I wonder if you could use my mushroom roast recipe as a base (without the stuffing). It does not have the gluten: chefani.com/gluten-free-vegan-holiday-roast-with-mushroom-filling/
      If you have TVP available, you could also try this recipe as a base: chefani.com/vegan-breakfast-sausage-patties/
      Hope this helps.

    Chef Ani, if we use the gluten-free recipe and adapt the technique to the sausages, should it work? Ie will the shape hold using the gluten free ingredients? Thanks so much!

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому

      Great idea! I have not tried it. It has been on my mind to experiment with this, but have not had a chance yet. If you try it, let me know how they turned out.

  • @chozart88
    @chozart88 3 роки тому +1

    I think I would skip the Saran Wrap, not sure that is safe to have heated with food 😬 I know they help with the shape though. Is there a food-safe alternative? I imagine foil alone wouldn’t keep the shape as well.

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому

      You can use foil. They may expand a little, but not too bad, and they are usually slightly dryer, but they are still good.

  • @mindy144
    @mindy144 3 роки тому +1

    I am sensitive to plastic that's why I asked if I can make them into patties. Can we do these in a broth? And cook them that way?

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому

      You could wrap them in just foil. But if you would prefer not to use either plastic or foil, you could try to cook them in a broth. It will change the consistency and shape significantly, but they may still be amazing.

    • @carlcat
      @carlcat 3 роки тому +2

      Mindy: I omitted the plastic and just used foil, they came out great.

    Can I leave out the oil without it compromising the finished product?

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому +1

      Yes, you can leave out the oil. The oil gives a slightly softer texture, but it should work just fine without it.

  • @EliGrey57

    Spicy? Now you're speaking my language. Tho I feel that's not nearly enough red pepper flake.
    That's like half a bottle of braggs right there. Well, half a normal sized bottle.
    About two years ago I was trying to make a vegan sausage, i made a few batches. Yet I lost the notes I had taken. All that progress wasted. Anywho, moral of the story is don't lose your recipe notes.

    • @ChefAni
      @ChefAni  3 роки тому

      Haha... Well you can add more red pepper flakes, EliGrey57! Sorry about your recipes notes. No progress is wasted. You would probably remember if you tried to make them again.
