- Welcome aboard an Re 420 push pull train on its way to Däniken, where it was used for the practical examination of a number of ticket inspectors, who were required to be able to assist the train driver with shunting in reverse up until 2017.
They also had to prove their ability to couple and uncouple wagons, which is why you can see the locomotive leaving with just one wagon at the end of the video.
It was said that the marshalling yard of Däniken would be closed within the coming years, the overhead wires removed and possibly the tracks too. SBB Cargo ceased regular shunting operations there at the end of 2016.
There has since been talk of it being kept as a storage location for trains. This is no surprise, as the SBB rarely stick to their plans, often scrapping locomotives after saying they will remain in service a while longer and at other times keeping locomotives in service long after their proposed withdrawal date.

Ich liebe es mit Re 420er zu fahren und bestaune wie gut sie noch zurecht kommen mit den heutigen Anforderungen. Wenn ich den Ae 1042 anschaue die um die gleiche Zeit gebaut wurde ist die Re 4/4 II sehr modern und innovativ daneben. Ich hoffe dass sie noch lange im Dienst bleiben!

Was this train a freight train or a passenger one? It did not stop at any of the stations. It stopped only when the signal was red. A lovely rainy journey otherwise. A thumbs-up to it. One tends to want to drink coffee on such a day.

This route has a very intense movement.
Even the ICE (InterCity Express) from Deutsche Bahn (DB) circulates by this route.

The Hauenstein basistunnel is really interesting especially when you approach the the speck of light from inside the tunnel. 8134 meters is a good distance! .... I’ve always wondered if you may have a video of the Simplon Tunnel . Any chance of a future video? 🙂👍🏻🌸
Definitely at some point. The Hauenstein Scheiteltunnel us also quite interesting to see (between Olten & Läufelfingen). It's the first major tunnel through a Swiss mountain. The Olten end was also fitted with a steel door during wartimes. It used to be double tracked and is now just a single track, with some interesting renovations visable inside. I have 3 videos passing through it.

Ozzie signals change to red as soon as the first carriage or loco passes, Swiss signals seem to allow for tailgaters.

9tomato9 Thanks! There are many factories around, however that Ikea building is a storage facility for Ikea and Tobler is a logistics center.

Sometimes on signals apart from the usual array of lights there is a number, what does it signify?
The speed limit × 10 at the next signal (orange) or current signal (green).
Beautifully quirky assignment shown here - can we assume that the Swiss Express Re420+EWI/II push/pull set near the start is reserved for our football - loving friends?

It sounds like an older unit - I don't think it's a goods. It could be either a crew training exercise or an enthusiast's charter. Will be interested to learn of the official description. Lived in Switzerland for 9 years so am familiar with the railways. Incidentally, Olten was to the right just after the train left the Hauenstein tunnel. You could see the turn-out as it passed the DB ICE train.

Was ist das für ein Zug , daß er in Tecknau drei schnelle einschließlich ICE vorbei lassen muss ? Güterzug ? Lok ? Leerzugang ? Denn bisher hat er ja an keinem Bahnhof gehalten . 🚊🚊👍
Das war einen Zugpersonal Prüfzug, EW I/II Pendelzug. In Däniken wurde dann entkuppeln, kuppeln und rangieren geprüft.

Bei 26:42 bestimmt etwas geschnitten. Hauptsignal/Vorsignal wechselt auf grün und da braust schon der ICE vorüber.
