The tracks in Switzerland are so smooth. Here in the United States tracks are bumpy, trains rocking back and forth, horns blaring, smoke belching and bells ringing.
Thank you for explaining “Sifa” I supposed that he had something to do with the engineers awareness but I also thought that the three loud beeps you hear on some videos was the wake up call as well. Great video of an “engine-light” move.

Superb run. I am amazed how extensive the railway infrastructure is around Basel. It certainly puts what we have in the UK to shame. Wishing you a happy Christmas. Looking forward to more from you in 2019. 👍🏼
Thank you! Yeah, I love how many sidings there are over here, however a lot of locations are being deactivated due to the low frequency of traffic. Merry Christmas & God bless.
it is true that the Swiss network is very developed and very effective. I am french and during my last trip in the liverpool and manchester area, i found the british network very interesting, even if during peak hours some trains are overloaded and delayed. (thank google traduction)happy christmas

One thing I've wondered, the speed limit signs like at 40:54, you've got three there, 125/95/100. I presume they're for different categories of train? IS 125 for tilting trains, and 95/100 for freight and passenger?
Hallo lorirocks777, ein ganz tolles Video, vielen Dank. Welche Zug- und Bremsreihe liegt hier vor (nur, damit ich das Ganze in der Streckentabelle mitverfolgen kann...)
Hi! I just recently discovered you website and the wonderful videos you have filmed. I love them and hope you intend to film more from time to time - will you, I hope ??? Warmest regards, Dana.
One question for you.......at each signal mast or signal bridge there are two or four square pads located between the rails spaced about two meters apart. Are those detectors for the central train control to affirm train location and speed?
No, they transmit information on signal status, gradient, speed restrictions and so on, to the locomotive which processes the information in relation to the train length, braking capacity, etc to accurately monitor the whether the driver's actions are sufficient.
Train location is monitored either with axle counters near signals (with yellow boxes next to the track) or track sections that are isolated that detect current when the left and right tracks are electrically connected by the axles of a train.
Darth Vader lives! In the suspension/damping system of class 430 locos. Did the loco or a close vehicle in the train have a wheel flat or a worn wheel profile causing hunting of an axle? There was a lot of banging on what I assume is continuous track.
I don't recall hearing the suspension but what you can hear in the corners are the wheel flanges against the tracks. I find the noises coming from the auxillary power converters rather annoying though.
bum bum bum…. seems that Re 482 has a "tire" blown down or, as in plain German said :" die Lok hat einen Platten", or not? Very amusing F1 speed use for travelling around in Switzerland . Nice and interesting as usual Ciao from Alptransit- Luino
, @@captbob3144 Its correct, it should not be so an extended/deep spot as it has the tendency to disappear/be covered by other noise, with the increase of speed ciao Alptransit-Luino
Excuse my ignorance, can you tell me what the signs with black H or T on a circular white background mean? and also the square signs with diagonal alternating black and white lines.
Thanks, merry Christmas to you too! Sifa is the name of the German system that checks whether the driver is conscious or not. First a sign appear on the screen, requiring the driver to release the pedal. If the driver doesn't react (say he or she was looking elsewhere), then the acoustic warning sounds. If there is still no reaction, the emergency brakes are applied. "Störung" means that there is a problem that the driver should pay attention to. Most of these locomotives always have some sort of little problem, so its normal to hear that sound whenever you start one up. The problems vary in degrees - some problems are quite superficial while others could mean that the locomotive is no longer drivable until the problem is addressed.
Nice video! Was just wondering about your user name? Are you a woman train operator in Switzerland? If so, good stuff! Only wish it was a nice sunny day when you made the video. Merry Christmas from Manitoba Canada!

What were those sniffling, snorting noises coming from the cab? Was the engineer clearing his sinuses; gargling; possessed by the Devil; being strangled?
Those sounds come from suspension when the bogies turn. Under the locomotive are big bars what connects the locomotive frame to bogies. Is not center pin in the bogies like in waggons. So is big sustensions mounted the side of the bogies what connects to the frame and those makes these sounds. These sounds are only on Traxx locomotives.
Was it not economical just to leave the engine with its cars being filled at the refinery? It feels like a long way to send an engine back without pulling something to make it worthwhile.
@@lorirocks777 We don't really have locomotive 'rental' in this country, though there is leasing, which is a contract for months, usually. Most often used with smaller operators that don't have their own locomotive shops, like industrial railroads or ports. There's also 'power-by-the-hour' agreements, where the lease is for a fee per horsepower-hour produced by the locomotive.

What was the locomotive fault as you departed from Olten? It sounded like it was being rather uncooperative to drive.
