Indeed! I was fortunate to be a bassist living in NYC- I met Jaco in that very club! I also saw Word Of Mouth at the Lone Star Cafe- thw horn section had to stand on the stairs, the band was so large (with TUBA!)
@@nabilgowdey5180 As a fellow bassist, Manhattan was choc-full of places to go! This concert was barely a year after I moved there (and 38 years later I moved here to Germany) and it remains unmatched as the most memorable home of all my musical experiences! :)
Thank you very much for sharing this! It is rather incredible to hear how Jaco fills up the space left by having no piano or guitar with Harmonics and beautiful "in tune" chords on fretless! He was just fearless and a real model for ALL the electric bass is capable of! RIP Jaco Pastorius.
Rick, about 10 years ago I came across an amazing video I can no longer find. It was a couple of superb players who weren't big names playing together unacompanied and both on some vintage jazzes. Very informal at their house or even a music store. They were doing the Jaco kind of stuff but had their own thing too, very jazz oriented and nuanced. Rich changes, just amazing cats. For some reason I think it was in New York, very East Coast. Do you know of this and could you post it?
Jaco spent the summer of '82 in Fort Lauderdale frequently playing at the newly opened Cafe Exchange. Any insight into what he was working on at that time, was he producing Word of Mouth at that time?

2 GIANTS JACO and MICHAEL BRECKER 😢
So great! Thanks for putting this out Rick! You are the man!
Brings back such lovely memories of NYC when venues were everywhere, and this one was at the top of the list for me! Love!

Wow thanks. What a pleasant surprise. It remains miraculous to hear 'new' music from that golden era by all those heroes. #Gratitude

Outstanding! Thank you so much for sharing!
Sasha king crimson !
Jacos solo sounds like a tuba and a trombone here. So cool. You have to learn from all instruments, not just bass!
