Jaco's solo is superb, but how amazing is the locked in vamp going on that starts at around 3:20, which is absolute soulful and flawless genius...how many other 19 year old's were this jaw dropping...thanks for sharing this monumental look into the early window of the master.
Tommy Strand and the Upper Hand were left stage every night at The Hump Room at Miami Beach's Marco Polo Hotel. Center stage was the main act with Peach on the right stage. Tommy was a great performer/dancer on stage. The Upper Hand band was top shelf, including Jaco.
Great version of this classic and what a tight, soulful band! What happened to Tommy later in life? I looked for him at Discogs but he doesn't seem to have moved onto a professional career in music?
Hey Roach I listened, brought back memories. Man you Sound Great . So Jaco started playing when Wyzard left for Mother Finest. Hey if you like the way Jaco played , you will also LOVE ❤️ WYZARD BASS . Jaco use to listen to him @ Funky Broadway Miami Beach .
I knew the wizard from many nights at the flying machine 1970. Fabulous and just a kid like I was . He could do all Motown and Larry Graham. Great guy . I saw Jaco do this solo at the Wreak lounge a few times. They would close the night out with this around 4 am. I knew Jaco from Woodchuck and when I got off my gig in Lauderdale with the Jerry Baxter trio I’d rush down i95 to sunny isle to hear Jaco. I sat on the stage right wing to listen because I was only 17 and not old enough to be there. lol. Great memories. Little did I know that in a couple years Jaco would be an international Jazz star.

That's me Bro, Scott Kirkpatrick, on drums!! I've never heard this before and am in utter awe of Jaco's bass part....

i recently learned that my wife, then a teenager used to watch them frequently as her father played there with his band.
Roach Thompson guitar, Jaco Pastorius Bass, Jimmy Rivas drums, was the Rhythm Section with Tommy Strand and the upper hand..
That guitar player was probably the best rhythm guitar player I ever heard
