My first CBG, I kinda made it on a whim. I had seen Shane Speal on internet selling his guitars and thought they were cool. But if I am going to buy a new guitar, I want a real guitar. I have regretted that guitar snobbery attitude for about 8 years now. Since I decided I’d make ONE. I was so amazed that I could actually make an instrument and play it. I made it for slide with high action, nails glued in as frets. And I didn’t have a slide so I used a spoon . And I had to reach myself how to play slide. I started using a copper coupling as a slide and built one or two more and that was it. I got better and better at making them and started using actual frets, adding decorative items, creating useable art. Right now I’m working on my 69th CBG.
Great video. Chickenbone John's kits were my way into this. I love the sound you can get from such a simple instrument. Thanks to John for passing on his expertise.
This was on BBC here in UK, and sparked a real interest in me, despite having no previous musical knowledge or experience. The "I'm pretty sure I could do that" kind of spark. So, I bought a kit from Chickenbone John and it was a success, despite my limited carpentry skills. Now, nearly 3 years later, I'm on build no,5 and I scour charity and second hand shops for suitable boxes, metal wall plaques, license plates and metal tins. I started building three months ago... got to build no#8 in 2023 :) 6 of then 3stringers 1 2tring fretless bass and one 3stringed fretless guitar ! i still look at my other guitars but only play on my boxes!! :) sooo fun building and playing!! :) No# 9 is on the way and 2024 is only been for one day! :)
When I found I could build a cbg and play most of the rock tunes I wished I could play it was an epiphany!!! 6 strings are 3 strings too many!! I don't have much interest in slide blues it's AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, ZZ Top, Neil Young, Green Day etc that's what gets me going!!! 19:50 ... OMG! There's a Slade Room??!! ❤❤❤
Interesante! I build guitars for 5 years now, learning a lot on tutorials from this guys i have about 60 already muchas Gracias!!! Por el amor a la música y a las guitarras de caja de cigarros !!
Cigar box guitar redefined my music. I love building them, love playing them!

Great vid, enjoyed thoroughly.
I'm expecting my first cbg mid January. This fabulous video has given me so much incentive to get started on my cbg journey. Thank you
Glad to see the interest on the other side of the pond!

Mine is not going to be a fantasy soon
This is why I do not understand modern youth, it has all been handed to them on a plate, and I think they have thrown it all away.
