I helped make an acoustic guitar for Colin Hay when i worked at Maton guitars. His guitar has my name in it. Watching that clip makes me proud i did that ;)
Nice one : )
Bravo. !!!
Just listened to his last album. love it 😍 ! Cheers from France 🇫🇷
The man "from the land down under"
Good job mate!
Colin Hay just has such a unique voice... no other like him.
That "In my life" cover was amazing.
incredible!!!
@@rjlane6726 he does a great Strawberry Fields too
The Smith/Fletcher jam was hands down the best on this compilation WITHOUT DOUBT!
Fuck off! Lemmo or several others were much better! Ha
No doubt
Even they knew it!
Kirk Fletcher & Josh Smith... JUST WOW 😎
Yas.
Tim Pierce.. the guy EVERYONE has heard before, without having the slightest idea who he is.. Just a fantastic musician..
That Smith and Fletcher piece just changed my whole day. Man....
That fletcher and smith jam was the reason I started playing guitar four years ago. I still hope to be as good as them someday goddam it slaps so hard
Fuck off!!! No way was better than Lemmo !!
Spanking good jam
Is it only me? Or Any body else feel how much Kirk Fletcher and Josh Smith are always CLASS ACT’s and deliver the tastiest licks 😱
Laurence Juber playing In My Life gave me chills pretty much the entire time. So well done
The album he made with Al Stewart (Between the Wars) is magical. Brilliant work, every song is stunning.
Wonderful stuff !
I scrambled to the bookshelf and found my "Fingerpicking the Beatles" after I saw that Juber arrangement. (but I thought 5 sec of Orianthi was sublime & the most impressive)
Colin Hay is an absolute beast. His solo performances are spectacular.
Albert Lee doesn’t get near enough love. Dudes a legend. It almost pains me to see him old. In his day he was an absolute killer.
Colin Hays performance has a magical mixture of wistfulness and experience to it. Wow.
I love this guy; he's so underrated.
@@robertdore9592 sadly. Unlike joe. Hes so overrated... Gah
Loved it...
He has such a great voice
LOVE HIS VOICE!!!
Colin Hay - legend
Hay you men, get to work.
Not going to lie I had know idea who he was until he started to play.
His albums Looking For Jack and Wayfaring Sons are epic.
The the MEN went to work one day & Collin never came home back to us here. Do M@W went over well there? Where is that Guitar shop anyway? Collin seems to just wonder around & play snippets of old hits turns up like a bad penny in sit coms, buskimg & now he can't even afford a Razor. I hope they have good security. NO really he looks Great for his age!
Scrubs
man, that Nichols/Lemmo stuff... could listen to that forever. bravo
Can never get tired of Colin playing that song. Classic
That Nichols and Lemmo bit hit my soul. So damn perfect.
It’s perfect I listen to them over and over 👍. So easy looking effortless, flow out of them.
jJ Nichols IS the best
2:32 Jam !
It’s amazing that the best part of all that was Colin Hay. I coulda listened to him for hours. Pure soul
Colin Hay is so underrated...his guitar playing can calm anyone down.
Yeah put you asleep.
Underrated in an overrated sort of way
I got to hang out with Colin Hay one night back in '85 watching a Mets playoff game at a buddy's apartment in NYC. No ego, no attatude, just a real nice guy. Glad he's still getting it done!
The jam with Jason Scheff and the guys was exquisite!
Laurence Juber performs the best cover of 'In My Life' I have ever heard in this video. Such a beautiful song and done so well on that vintage acoustic, so fitting. Never forget The Beatles and their proof of love and the love of life.
Man Colin Hay is such an underrated musician. That is still one of my all time favorite songs, that was back when even (pop) songs could be deep and take you to a place! Now I'm going to pull out all of my Men at work CD's and binge out!
Colin Hay killing it! I'm such a huge fan of his acoustic versions.
something about his voice really gets me! so glad he was in this
Awwww Don McLean!!! Love you forever!!! Still sound fantastic!!! A true American treasure 👍💯🔥❤️
Colin Hay!!! Sir, you have saved my life more than once. Thank you for your music.
Love watching Tim Pierce play. His facial expressions reveal that he loves every minute of playing and watching others play.
I absolutely love Colin Hay. What an endless talent.
Colin Hay...my first three words...oh my god! I saw Men at Work at a warehouse show in Lacawanna or Tonawonda, NY...cant remember now over 20 years ago. The best!
Man, I'm a drummer, but I could watch this all day long. Just a great bunch of super-talented musicians.
When I’m down and really out I tune in to the “ Best of Norms “ . Cures all your aches and pains, sets your mind at ease and let’s you cruise out of their with the world by the tail and it’s all down hill.
Mr. Juber's interpretation of "In my Life" is just beautiful...
Colin Hay has a sincerity in his singing that can't be ignored. It's the soul of a true artist. Here it was just a snippet of a song yet I was deeply moved.
Joe Bonamassa is a true Olympic athlete on the fret board and I would love to have that skill yet I'm never moved by his playing.
As for Larry Carlton. Well, He's a master musician, plain and simple. He's got the skill that very few have and the soul to move anyone with the heart to hear.
mrfester42 i
Right. Joe has skill. But thats it... He has no soul. No feeling. Hard pass..
I fully agree with your assessment of Bonamassa. I don't find his playing interesting at all; it does nothing for me. I mean he knows his pentatonic scales and does all the stock licks, has technique and speed but how cares? It sounds so generic and uninteresting. There's a huge gulf when comparing his part of this clip with Larry Carlton's.
You have written exactly what I had in mind; in that order. The honesty and sincerity of Colin Haye in his performing this song "Overkill", of wich I thought was titled "Night after night"..and mr. Larry Carlton who has this way of playing and the sound, with his heart and soul, down to earth man I admire and respect greatly!! (As for the show-off..no soul, no blues on a big jazzer..olympic medal for runnin up and down the stairs)
@@philsarkol6443 Right! ,,, except I wouldn't go so far as to call Bonamassa a show off. In fact, I think the opposite is true.
The feeling I get when he plays is that he's turned totally inward. Maybe that's why his playing sounds so flat and uninteresting. He's just conversing with himself in his own language.
All the musicians that I would call great have a heart that has something to say and a "soul" that wants to connect with others and be heard with a language that everybody understands.
All the great ones, no matter how reserved and humble they are when not playing, are just aching to connect with the world and THAT is what we hear.
Black and White fella can REALLY GET DOWN! They are SERIOUS GOOD!
Said it before..I'm colorblind...but thank God not deaf..yeah they hit a mean chop.
badian ou812 I was always wondering what y’all see? It’s like grayish right or what ?
They are grooooooovy!
if your not serious,''don't even bother tryin to play like this..just sayin.
@Mud Dobber Don't be getting in my head like that! Do you know what band they are in? Must be awesome. BB was such a nice guy! I pulled up next to his tour bus, on the offramp for Harbor Blvd. He was playing at the Galaxy that night, a couple blocks north. I am in my "94" S10, with my son right next to me in his child seat our dog sticking his head through the slider right above my son's head. I have the windows down, and am listening to Tab Beniot. I look over and BB is standing in the door of the bus, Big smile on his face and waving at us. Amazing!
It's wonderful, Norm, how you have relationships with so many famous guitarists.
After looking at the comments I see I'm not alone in thinking that Laurence Huber playing 'In my life' is absolutely incredible. To stand out amongst all the other talent speaks for itself. Full of emotion and pure raw talent. Have to mention Fletcher and Smith playing together too. Made those strats sound like Tele's to me.

My favorite Beatles tune. Juber's arrangement made me tear up.
Makes me sometimes wonder if The Beatles ever realized at the height of Beatle mania , the impact their songs will have on the world and how they will influence and inspire musicians for many many years to come?
Will never get sick of seeing Laurence Juber on here, unbelievable player
Only knew him from Wings, his acoustic playing is excellent!
Colin Hay singing a great classic! Priceless!
So great to hear that Glaswegian accent there ..!! MEN AT WORK, BRILL ..!
Colin Hay is so lay back ... it's simple but great to listen to
Josh Smith and Kirk Fletcher are like peanut butter and jelly. They belong together! Excellent duo.
There is so much over produced music in the world. Spontaneous organic music can bring so much. Love it!
COLIN HAY! My word! I'm speechless
The In My Life cover is the best thing about this video. Just wonderful.
7:32 I love when someone plays Beatles tunes fingerstyle like that
SellMe YourSoul. LJ might know a thing or two, he played with McCartney for years 🤓.
What's the name of the song he is playing?
Fran Man in my life~beatles
@@ciccio40105 ..in my life ( I have loved you more)
It is a John song. Very touching.
Colin with that Iconic voice.
Larry Carlton! What a treat!🍬
COLIN HAY lives here in L.A. (i'm L.A. born and raised) i've actually seen him out in public a few times.
and yeah i'm a total instrument geek and NORMAN'S is truly amazing even if they are a little pricey.
Damn Colin! Overkill just never gets old no matter how many times I've heard it.
Over 40 years ago, when I wanted to learn how to play lead guitar, all I could afford was a book on blues guitar and Albert Lee was the main inspiration of that book. The author felt that if you needed a mentor or goal for guitar playing, Albert Lee would do fine. Still proves to be the case.
Right on man
7:33 Laurence Juber covering "In My Life" was beautiful.
I'd give my left nut to be able to play like that.
Very Savoury
there’s so many incredible players on the planet I’ve never heard! And I’ve been playing & listening for 58 years!
I hear you on that one. Ive been playing on and off here and there for over 50 years and thought i had a good backround, i guess not really. What really gets me is that while yes i can play, Im not any good. I just don't get it.
Gotta love Colin Hay, fantastic voice and composer
To have the foresight to compile all these great mini performances was genius.
Saw a lot of bands in the eighties, without doubt one of the most memorable was Colin Hay and Men at Work, the talent and sincerity shone through, the music still brings me joy.

I am Australian so Colin Hays is special to me, I saw him live in his last ever show with Men at Work at the Penthouse Nightclub on the Gold Coast.
Thank you youtube recommendations, this time you did not disappoint.
hahaha totally right. I clocked only for seeing stuff about Bonamassa but I'm not disappointing at all as long I'm looping vibe at 2:32
Omg! Colin Hay. I’d literally die. Such an under appreciated genius.
Colin Hay always takes me back. Great Band, great tunes.
I could listen to Josh and Kirk play all day. Great music, I hope to get there one day.
Kirk always looks like the happiest musician!!
Guys are grooved like they play together day & night
I had a beer with Colin mid 80's in a club in Melbourne, glad to see he is alive and kicking !
No Stairway? Denied!
Alive and picking*
This is why I love the internet.
I could listen to Tim Pierce all day...every day. Something about his playing I just connect with. Phenomenal!
Agree. He's so damn smooth with his note transitions.
Do you know what song he’s playing at 11:58? I can’t for the life of me figure it out! I know it but can’t remember
I come back here every now and again to hear Colin Hay play that song of his. Such a distinct voice. Such a talented dude.
Me too, it's everything I need every now and again
Asked my wife, "why are they all old guys?"
She says, "that's how long it takes."
you must not play guitar.
Because norm is old and he knows who they are , if that held any weight why were these once great songwriters & players that wrote hits in there youth but you never hear of them now there old
Have a look a Taj Farrant for an old soul😳
Wife is talking out of her arse then.... sure, you need some time in but not 40+ years.
@MJW bullshit, new talent all the time.
That Nichols/Lemmo jam is great.
Incredible
Can't stop watching it, i need to tab it 😂
@@niklaskoeberl0 I did....
@@brianstokes7687 Mix out of the 2 Guitars or 1st and 2nd? Would you share, I havent done it so far 🎸🤟
Geissman is a beast. I loved his playing in the jam with Tim Pierce et al
thanks for letting these instruments be used they way they are meant to be used and sharing it
The 2 guys shreddin blues together was off the charts!!
Laurence Juber - fantastic guitar player, he is a true master player.
This is one and only priceless place on earth. Amazing shop👍
The In My Life cover was beautiful
Anyone can be a musician, all it takes is 100,000 hours of damn hard work.
i literally have rewound at 12 mins about 50 times
that tim pierce and crew has blown me away
the four of them are insane.
My daughter lives in L.A. I'm from mich. Norm found out I was a petty Fan and he showed me Tom'ssighned S.G and his top hat. I almost cried. Incredible moment. Norm is such a cool, nice guy. Thank you .
Love Colin Hays voice. So many memories from childhood... and more. Thank you, Mr. Hay.
Colin Hay killing it!
How amazing was Colin Hay's performance
My whole life just flashed before my eyes.
That's because you're awesome!
👍😎🤘
‘Ghosts appear then fade away……’ thank you Colin Hay…..simply great songwriting, singing and playing 🤘🏻
This sort of stuff inspires me and makes me feel inadequate at the same time. I don't know whether to practice (lots) more or just give up! (-:
Hell don't give up if you do so will I
Right!?
Amazing : guitar's masters on wonderful instruments. Could easily spend the weekend listening to them all.
11:55 such a good jam session, love how Tim is looking around asking with his eyes who else is gonna pick it up when he was about to be done.
This was freaking awesome. Amazing guitars and amps at this shop with some of the coolest artists coming in to jam.
Thanks for this jam video, Jen. Keep up the great work.
neun Arme I
Jared James and his buddy jamming on Wes Montgomery's Bumpin' on Sunset sent shivers down my spine! They really made it their own. Amazing stuff.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this video. Thank you Norman! So much talent!
Laurence Juber doing “in my life” is the best moment in Norms history
I agree.
gave me tears
best part of the video, I replayed it a couple times
while I appreciate the talent, the genius of "In My Life" is the lyrics, so no matter how great a job someone does playing it on guitar it just will never be in the same universe as the actual song. In fact it relies on the listener already knowing the lyrics to have any impact at all.
What an incredible opportunity to watch from front and center such talent perform. They were also like mini lessons to me....loved it!
Oh my first time to hear Overkill in acoustic. Nice one Mr. Colin Hay, men are still working.
Newo Tacis,
Men at Work had a lot of great songs - unfortunately you only hear "Who Can It Be Now?" and "Down Under" on high rotation on radio stations.
ua-cam.com/video/5iuhQ2QWjKA/v-deo.html
I’ve known Norm many years and it’s always a gas to stop by and have fun
Amazing, soo much talent. Awesome to listen and appreciate people who work so hard to develop what comes from the heart.
I am strictly an avid listener, not a musician in ANY sense of the word BUT, of all the guitarists on this Part 1 session,
the duo of Jared James Nichols and Michael Lemmo was, to me, totally in a VERY creative groove; the transitions of the leads
were so smooth and there seemed to be no end to the variations each player developed.....a delight to listen to, many thanks for the posting!
I wouldn't recognize Colin Hay ...How wonderful to see good musicians ,really great moments
Man, that dude playing "in my life" on acoustic was the crown jewel of the whole video!
That dude is "the" dude. 😉
yes, I agree
The whole thing _In my Life:_
ua-cam.com/video/F15OHzhHnWI/v-deo.html
Any guitar playing is always great, but when you get vocals with it, damn, that is a rare treat!!
Laurence Juber...wow! Incredible.
Agree!
tasty "in my life" cover
7:31
Great video ,good vides, good music, really enjoyed watching music bring smiles to faces, make you move......
What a great look at some of the most talented group of guitarist's ever, Thanks Norm.
Incredibly Entertaining! Flavorful Styles! Talent Unleashed! I Love it!
So much tone variety, I got my wife to watch this video to try and explain why I always need more amps, guitars.
