My dad has stage IV cancer and is currently in hospital on his last days. I can’t visit him because of carona. It’s heartbreaking. Your video really cheered me up. Thanks rob.
Rob don't worry about the short length of the video, it's 12 minutes and 18 seconds of absolute RS quality and class - I'll take every second of RS Sierra any day.
Sound deadening back in the day was a bad rust trap. The guy who removed it had alot of sense and ultimately saved the floor from rusting out. Looking forward to the next vid.
Jamie B Wet feet, minor water ingress from dodgy seals, we have all left the window or door open walked away for a cuppa and it’s started raining!!! Even condensation. Tiny amounts add up over time. Sound proofing materials, even by today’s standards can hold a lot of moisture, without you ever knowing unless you regularly check.
Love your videos guys, and what a beautiful car!! If I were you, I wouldn’t bother about the sound proofing, that floor is clean because it was removed, if it’s not going to be a daily runner you can put up with a little road noise. The proofing just holds moisture, without it, any moisture will evaporate quicker, plus any moderate or major water ingress will be spotted quicker, therefore dealt with quicker, reducing the chance of major rust issues in the future. The proofing wasn’t removed because of its weight, it only weighs about 2kg, it was removed to prevent damage, and you can clearly see it has worked. Keep up the good work guys.👍👍
The fade out of the ' getting involved' house music is good so that it stop before the bass part before the end. Good to see you keeping motivated , always a pleasure to watch with a cold beer . We really appreciate the effort , integrity and patience put into all these uploads .
What a beautiful Cozzie! I've followed this thread from when you saved her from the barn! She's probably worth more than any car you've ever had on here. I hope you don't sell her once she's been restored because she's absolutely beautiful. You and Chris are gonna make her look like she did in her glory days and we can't wait to see her when you two have finished 🙂
Great video again gentlemen Love the RS Cosworth Friend of mine, Philip had a Black RS 500 Cosworth. Red pin stripe as opposed to grey. Always driving around Dartford. Have many a memory in that car
I couldn’t afford anything near near this motor in the naughties but I did get my hands on a rare three door Sierra. I did a full Cossie rep and this brings back some great memories. Keep up the good work guys.
Rob the car totally original cant believe no holes in the floor pan and looking forward to the paint correction video and the rest rest of your plans for the car. Who did not want one of these cars in the dayd many of us still do
I only found your channel two months ago and I absolutely love it!!! The content you boys provide is something unique. I’m from faversham and there’s something about the way you talk (I can relate to it easy) us boys down this way have our own language lol this time next year you and Chris will have a million subs if you carry on with the content levels you’ve had recently! Keep up the good work boys 👍👍
I forgot about the headlight stalk lol, once up for side lights and 2 for headlights. Also the position of the hazard light switch that flashes bahahahha man, so many memories. I remember as well the wind up sun roof and wind one way for up and the other way to open lol. look forward to more videos. I had the exact same car and colour and i've got 100's of photos, loved that car.
Those brake light warning symbols on the dash of the car go off when you press the brake pedal... My dads old Ford Sierra Xr 4x4 did it every time you started it up 👍🏻 lovely car mate
I'm not 100% but something tells me that on the car diagram on the dash the tail lights go out once you press your brakes to show you that they are both working if 1 of them come back on you have a brake light out. I could be wrong as its years and years since I had my fords with that display. She seems to be a solid car in all fairness but they were bought to be driven back in the day and a lot of them changed hands a lot so to find a survivor car like this is a very lucky find. I'm loving the content 👍
A Great tip for your sagging parcel shelf is lightly spay it with water till it’s damp on both sides then sandwich it between 2 large pieces of wood and clamp them together, when the shelf drys out it’ll be lovely and straight again, worked on my 3dr a treat, those parcel shelves are very Rare indeed the compartment with the lid that lifts up originally contained a 1st aid kit 👍🏻
Treat them inner floors to a good does of Krust rust treatment and black smooth hammerite paint 😉👍👍👍👍👍👍 tho as someone else has put in the comments who ever had taken the sound deadening out has surly saved that floor for sure🤩🤩🤩
Oh boy, you really have landed a beauty here Rob. Big money power Mods, standard body in really good nick, everything that matters is looking tip-top. The behaviour of the warning lights is as per the car (one on the left is brake pad warning), the rear lamp warning is basically an early bulb failure check system, pressing the brake pedal will let the system check resistance and it will then either remain lit or pass the check and go out. Yes it should have sound deadening, even the RS500 had that. I doubt they took it out to save weight, most people got rid of the back seats first to do that. My bet (although I could be wrong) is the floor looks so mint because its not original and they struggled to source new matting once the job was finished. These things were surprisingly technical given the era, and Ford seemed to trial some of the cutting edge in-car diagnostic stuff with these. New wheels and tyres plus a new battery will be great but i really can't wait to see this come back from the shop in a fresh coat of paint.
My uncle was a fleet manager back in the 80s & 90s, and I remember him saying that they always had a problem with a lot of the Sierras. Even from new, the front screens didn't always completely seal, allowing moisture in which would soak into the sound deadening pads under the carpets. They changed cars every 3 years, and company policy was to MOT them before sending them to auction as it got them a better price. However, nearly all Sierras would have some rust in the floor plans, some really serious. Cavaliers were fine, but Sierras would always have rust at only 3 years old. They actually switched fully over to Vauxhall because of it. Obviously, we ain't talking about Cosworths here, but I imagine that they would have had the same sound deadening pads as the sales rep specials.
Entertaining as ever... just wouldn't be the same without your trademark tap tap tap, really solid, tap tap tap, just a bit of surface rust. Keep up the good work Tap tap tap!
Another great video Rob. To answer your question on under lay ,there should have been the mixed fiber with hard top type . I just confermed this on mine and it looks like you have a left hand drive , driver's seat as the back rest winder is on the inside on yours when it should be on the outside. Can not wait for the next video , hope it can be a little longer.
The floor looks in superb condition- one less thing to worry about- fingers crossed all the arches are solid -if they are you’ve both had a proper result!
Yeah it should have sound deadening but they was like sponges that held water and made the floor rust under the pedals where the inbuilt rubber mat is. Someone loved that car. Mick
Fabulous car Rob. Can't wait to see it finished. Would love to see you save a mk1 Granada like Regan had in the Sweeney. They were a gorgeous motor. Take care lads and love the content. 👍
Hi, yes this should have soundproofing, also the rear lamps shown as being out is just a check lamp. Touch the brakes and these will go out. Also the rear window trims are incorrect as is the time clock. All the best with the restoration. Cheers, Derek.
Looks solid under the carpet. It amazes me to see these old Fords that are still solid after 30+ years, as I had a 7yr old XR3i that had to have a new battery tray and floor pan welded in, due to the water getting in to the passenger side foot well and rotting the floor, which was quite common. Get some soft nylon drill brushes for the carpet as they are great for helping remove stains.
Rob, 100% it should have sound deadening. Also when you were inside the car you said that the display was showing that your brake lights were out, that is actually to make sure they are working. If you you tap the brake pedal the brake lights on the display will go out. The clock in the centre console is wrong....yours has both a digital and a analogue clock....but a three door /RS500 should just have a digital clock. The instrument cluster surround (the part that goes around the heater controls) is out of a Sapphire...3 doors ones look slightly different. Hope this helps👍.
Nice to see a little peak of the inner workings, r.e carpet have a go with tfr and jetwash if that doesn’t work out you can get carpet dye spray it on with a trigger spray loads of colours out there black, grey etc, if you got an old car carpet kicking about give it a go, you will be surprised, oh and stay safe.
Amazing work and thanks for the content and wow them floors and interior looks great especially for the age of the car Edited Rob yes it should have sound deadening as when you search it on the internet it comes up with it
If I remember correctly from when I had a Sapphire Cosworth in the late 80s, the brake light warning light goes out if you touch the brake pedal to test them. Great video, thankd for sorting a bit of my Friday night Rob
Yep, correct, my 4i had that too, a quick touch on the brake pedal to check the lights go out :). Well ahead of it's time. I had the useful fuel /trip computer on mine too......to tell me I was doing 28mpg mostly.
Rob, are you going to give the floor the treatment. How much will it cost to replace carpet? Anyway thanks for lightening the day during this horrible time, hope you , Chris and all the u tube watchers keep safe.
Flipping ech 28 mpg I was lucky to get 21mpg. The trip/mph computer was a rare option. Both of mine was basic steering as power steering was an optional extra.
Hi Rob, great condition that floor for the year. I’d keep that original carpet, look lovely scrubbed up with a new set of mats. Quality upload once again 👍
Another cracking addition to the series and great to see a solid floor and sills. Guessing you will treat the surface corrosion to prevent further creep in due course. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment, and moreover, the finished product. 😋
The sound deadening has definitely been removed there Rob, they used to be beige coloured on all those cars if memory serves me correct. A lot of people who are restoring them and finding difficulty getting original deadening are using a memory foam layering
the original sound deadening killed a lot of fords as it retains water and rusts them out period , . some things are better modded better than original
Hi Rob... boots noted..lol, if my memory serves me correctly they all had sound deadening fitted from new, floor looking very good indeed. Carpets still obtainable I'm sure, overall the Cozzie is a fantastic Base to work with, look forward to the journey to completion. Cheers, Alex.
the 'fan light' you referred to is actually coolant, and the 2 rear lights illuminated on the little car pic are to test your brake lights, if you press the brake pedal and your bulbs work in the brake lights, these ones will go out, (or stay on if lights not working)
I think flashing lights on the aux warning lamps indicates a system/circuit fault. They should come on as a bulb check & then go out if all is good. The left hand lamp is brake pads. The front footwell looked a bit lumpy - corrosion gets in the seams where the multiple panels are spot welded together. Be interesting to see it with the kit off as the outer sills tend to go as do the arches as the kit tends to hold moisture in the seams. If it has been reshelled or been kept out of the worst of the weather you might be lucky!
Awesome video mate. Great content and you explain things really well. Glad to see you're into classic cars. Keep up the awesome videos. Liked and Subscribed 👍🏼
The race and rally versions had their shells dipped in acid to eat thickness of steel away to save weight. Also some of the race ones had their floor raised against regs, to lower the centre of gravity. Worked as a sign writer on the works rally cars for Andrews Heat for Hire.
Been stuck in a shitty office all day dodging coughing colleagues with no social distancing. Kept going thinking about a cold beer and some Cossie content!
Beautiful car mate. Seen some people mentioning about using a drill brush attachment, be careful using them on older fabrics, the weave of the material may not be strong due to the age and can tear them apart. Found out the hard way on a old fiesta as it left the bolsters and carpets threadbare. Start off light and build your way up if required. Steam cleaners are always a really good little investment
Nice update video Rob, thank you. I take it that the infamous trainers have gone to the great trainer box in the sky? As we haven't seen them since the Ford RS Cosworth recommission video lol.
The removal of the sound deadening probably saved the floor.....it might have been removed because it was letting in water 🤷♂️ great vid as always thanks rob👍
When you get the carpet out to shampoo it’s worth getting one of those brush attachments for a cordless drill to agitate the dirt, not many pennies off eBay and will make the job much easier. Love this car!

Yep, correct, my 4i had that too, a quick touch on the brake pedal to check the lights go out :). Well ahead of it's time. I had the useful fuel /trip computer on mine too......to tell me I was doing 28mpg mostly.
Great video again.
If carlsberg made cosworths, cosworths would probably be the best car in the world😂👍....nice one gent's 👌
Both of mine was basic steering as power steering was an optional extra.
robert swift cosworths don’t make cars Ford makes cosworths😁
Can't you afford a new car? Salvage rebuild? Poppycock.
Fantastic video rob
Hi Rob, great condition that floor for the year. I’d keep that original carpet, look lovely scrubbed up with a new set of mats. Quality upload once again 👍
I want one of those, so iconic.
Thanks again fella
Another cracking addition to the series and great to see a solid floor and sills. Guessing you will treat the surface corrosion to prevent further creep in due course. Eagerly awaiting the next instalment, and moreover, the finished product. 😋
Excellent Rob
The sound deadening has definitely been removed there Rob, they used to be beige coloured on all those cars if memory serves me correct.
A lot of people who are restoring them and finding difficulty getting original deadening are using a memory foam layering
the original sound deadening killed a lot of fords as it retains water and rusts them out period , .

Hi Rob... boots noted..lol, if my memory serves me correctly they all had sound deadening fitted from new, floor looking very good indeed. Carpets still obtainable I'm sure, overall the Cozzie is a fantastic Base to work with, look forward to the journey to completion. Cheers, Alex.

Nice one Rob, it's always good to see the cozzy 😎😎
Always wanted one of these maybe one day love watching these videos guys keep up the good work👍👍

I’m so glad you’re binning the wheels 👍🏻
The removal of the sound deadening probably saved the floor.....it might have been removed because it was letting in water 🤷♂️ great vid as always thanks rob👍
I love this car, Can’t wait to see more progress on this Rob 👍
Great news, super to see it's solid!
When you get the carpet out to shampoo it’s worth getting one of those brush attachments for a cordless drill to agitate the dirt, not many pennies off eBay and will make the job much easier. Love this car!
What Dan said.
You really want to avoid agitating the fibres as it will do damage to the fabric/carpets. Instead do multiple passes with a wet vac and use a minimal contact cleaning method.
Dan Legge nope just brush it with a wire brush, it will come up looking magic.
Grim Biscuits wire brush will be fine. It’s not a show car that needs to stay completely true to original. It’s a barn find. Get the wire brush on it and get it clean. So you might loose a few fibres? Not the end of the world.
For pet hair a Lily brush will help as used in Autoshine Cars videos and stauffer's garage in the US. Cracking gadget
