rob, i caused a hit + run when i was 18. my dad grassed me up to the coppers
i nearly lost my licence + job, [apprentice mechanic] my insurance went through the roof, never mind the massive fines + 8 points on my licence...
even though i cursed him at the time, it was the best thing my dad did for me, it made me who am... RIP dad, 28/11/38 - 18/2/24
I got caught riding a motorbike when I was 18 no insurance got hammered financially fined about six weeks wages also got into a bit of trouble with the police when I was 13 definitely changed me for the better like you said it made me who I am.
My friend's son did the same years ago, they had him charged 😁
Which is exactly what should be done.
Not that he/she had the cheek to take it with out consent
Not that he/she even crashed it
The cheek and disrespect shown the then continue to vandalize it once its crashed ... holy sh*t
This is the next generation ...
amazes me someone in their own family would do this its a horrible thing to do
So the kid who wrecked it and then smashed it up has clearly never been told 'NO!' in his / her life. This is what entitlement does.
And now the family make the kid feel justified by not prosecuting. Sometimes some tough love is the only way to bring some reality to young people.
Exactly. No sympathy here
And now the cycle will continue...
So glad the insurance didn’t pay out. Rare time I’d ever say that!
The accident damage is on thing but the tantrum vandalism is shocking. I would have proceeded with prosecution.
Good vid tho as always 👍
If one of my sons took our car for joyride and did this, no way I would try protecting them. F*ck about and find out.
There are some strange people out there. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Huge call out on the respect shown for the use of SR UK number plates to show respect to the family as we all know what the internet can be like.
Someone can be found from just plates?
@@misterzee5736 I'm not sure if that is possible, but anyone who knew the family and the car, even just by sight could have picked up on it and given them unwanted attention.
I understand not wanting to throw a family member under the bus but what a disgusting lack of respect displayed . Looks a nice little car under all the damage - I’m sure it will be great after the SRUK treatment
seeing a lot of negativity towards the owners decision and family member, can we take a second to think they are probably watching this build and feel awful enough without the comments, as a community lets not make it worse, whats happened has happened... fair play to SRUK. looking forward to the end result on this one
Should have prosecuted and taught them in life you can’t be doing 💩 like this , regardless who you are.
I was thinking the same. They aren't going to manage in the real world until they learn how to control themselves. Still.....
Agree, but probably didn't want them to have a criminal record that would set them back as they're starting out.
I agree, I suspect they are out laughing and joking about it with their mates and have learned absolutely nothing. I just hope whoever they are, this doesn't give them a misplaced sense of confidence and bravado for repeating twoc, as next time the outcome may be far more tragic.
Lets hope whoever did that doesn't ever get a licence! Could you imagine coming across someone like that on the road!
Somebody’s teenager has thrown a tantrum. I can understand the parents not wanting a prosecution. A criminal record could screw up his or her life before they have even got off the ground. I fully understand the reaction of the insurance company though.
exactly what I was thinking, don't want that kind of thinking on the road. Needs to mature
If they'll do this, they won't think twice about driving without a license 🙃😂
Kenneth Noy springs to mind.
My thoughts exactly and I would be most surprised if drugs weren't involved, also not necessarily a male.
Hi Rob I was in a similar position last year when myself and son had a major disagreement. He decided to jump on the bonnet and the roof police and everyone got involved.Lookey for me the insurance paid out but when we went to sort the insurance out for the new car it had doubled.Tbh I almost offered you the car but it was 2014bit old for you but it was a Octivia Vrs estate at time just didn't have the energy to get you involved sorry I was a bit broken at the time.
Family or not they would be prosecuted. I might be a hard b---d but someone needs to be accountable . Unless they’ve got mental health problems it needs to be done.
Mental health….if they’re sane enough to get a drivers license they’re sane enough to suffer the consequences.
Seems to me most youngsters have mental health or drug problems these days, DOH.
Senseless behaviour of some people. Hope you guys get it fixed up for a good profit 👍🏻
Also a Renault Twingo! If I’d have done this to anything I’d have ever been given I’d have been on the run still and I’m in my 60’s now!
Family or not I would be pressing charges, that is bang out of order
Nearly crapped my pants when that spider bolt came out
Hi guys, I hope the little s**t that had the tantrum never gets a driving liscence. I'm sure you will get it looking perfect again.👍👍👍
If my son had done that I would have prosecuted so he learned a valuable lesson. My father would have tanned my arse. Great video lads
Exactly but this is a very different generation with all this can't smack your kids so they get away with murder if this was me growing up the smacking on the arse & the being stopped from going anywhere to paying for the damage would've learned me a very hard lesson to many do gooders in the world now
@@chrisstyles4630only with some people. Others still parent their kids properly don’t lump everyone together!
I can see the insurance companies point, as I understand it the driver was a provisional licence holder, driving without permission and without supervision so unless they "stole" the vehicle the owner could not claim as they were not in charge of the vehicle at the time of the crash.
I Don’t blame the insurance one this rare occasion for refusing
Looks like the learner driver is totally unsuitable to be in control of a car. Obviously can't control his temper and has no respect or regard for the owner of the vehicle.
He would still be in hospital if it was my son, and homeless.
@@mickc7388well said
Same as a Renault twingo, so you might be able to get parts from one of them, if you can’t find any for a smart
A very nice find guys, a pity about the brat! Its going to be a busy Rob....Thanks guys. 👍
That’s it Chris sends Rob out for parts while he hunts the shrapnel 😂😂
Back in the 90s my sister had a cracking Ford Orion Equipe . While she was out her 14 year old son decided to take it out for a spin and rolled it . The insurance although fully comp did not pay out . They said because somebody from the household had access to the keys they would not pay the claim . She lost her car and he lost his licence before he was old enough to have one and his ban started once he was 17.
Great to see the confidence you both have each and every time you get a vehicle. Hard working professionals - well done.
Im pretty sure that cars been painted at the front before as the wings, bumper and bonnet are a different colour from the doors.
no, that's as they came - parts are interchangeable, like the original Smart car.
They will say the child has undiagnosed ADHD or something so they need to go easy on him and be understanding. Horrible little brat. Certain future jail resident.
Adults Denying Harsh Discipline 😉
Nothing stranger than family’s. Indeed a sad story 😮
A lot of damage, some unexpected due to an angry person but you guys get stuck into a car you’ve never worked on before and hey ho a list of parts to replace. Very inspiring chaps, you’re not afraid of tackling anything. Nothing phases you and it will be another perfect motor when finished. Love it!! ❤❤
I bet the little runt that nicked never makes up the loss to the owner.
Learner driver, you can segue marks on the rear. Slid into a kerb, in the wet, coming off a roundabout. Hit both NS wheels. Interior, I have no clue unless child was told “I am not buying another car”.
By not pressing charges they have created someone with no sense of consequences.
Strange story ! best keep my thought's to my self
3:57 that screams at me *L plate* pretty much sums up the story of what happened
Good spot 👍
Or P 😂
Rob, Chris, keeping the plate covered is a considerable thing to do. The Smart car looks like a Smart purchase. Very nice little runabout once you guys work your magic.
I'm sure that is the same running gear as the Renault Twingo, I went to a Renault that had a flat battery and couldn't work out where the bonnet catch was lol keep up the good work guys, watching from up the west of Scotland cheers
bonnet like the old Audi A2 from 20 odd years ago.
SR20 .. as a Yorkshireman, that's more like it! 😄
A lot of work ahead but the A Team will do their magic 👍👍👍👍
So a difficult call if it’s a member of your household, but sometimes tough love is the only way. That’s my view.
im fascinated with the BMW i3 and really stressing the wife out with wanting one.
Sounds like who ever the driver was at the time doeant deserve to be driving. And needs anger managment sessions. Who then trashes the interiour of there car just because they have had an accident. The parents should have agreed to prosecute then the driver may have learnt a lesson. Buy not prosecuting the driver is gonna do it again. Nice little car either way. Look forward to seeing you guys work your magic
Nice homage to Larry Grayson Rob 😂, “ Shut that door “ Chris 😂
Should get that recovery vehicle wrapped with salvage rebuilds to promote the channel.
No people will follow them back to there yard.
Do you know how much printed wrap costs? It would cost them a bomb to promote something the don't need to
@@rickderby12 no idea just a suggestion
@@rustynut9uk897 lots of ytubers do it . Just a suggestion. I’m sure they won’t do it .
Wow can’t believe a family member would trash the family car not good , will be a nice car once done a bit of work there Good luck guys 👍
Remember that Family's Brother who borrowed that Range Rover and thought it was a submarine. 😂
He bought it 👍
What a lot of work for a small car and there are no excuses for vandalism.
It didn't look that bad till Chris went through it Blimey ,interesting Video something different I like the stories behind the damage, to many E Numbers.....
In the first 5 mins when you were describing all the things wrong I began to wonder what was right with it? Another good video.
Nice to see different content. Really interesting how Mercedes got the price down and it's almost what you'd expect from a domestic cheap Indian import quality wise. Smart cars are built with user swappable body panels so you should be able to get them in colour.
An old college friend did the same. Borrowed his mum's punto, drove to college in it and showing off on the car park he pulled a handbrake turn and hit a kerb sideways. 😂. He had to get it towed away. That's likely what this guys done. I'm sure he'll love getting the bus for a few years
I was looking forward to doing my ironing tonight, so I could stick on SR UK ok UA-cam!! Great work lads!
Not providing evidence is the worst possible course of action. A family member with no anger control needs a reality check. Otherwise they will do this again possibly ramming another driver off the road or otherwise find a way of killing somebody. That is not an exaggeration. To do so much damage is a methodical act not a flash of temper.
I would've had them charged
If that happened then it's left to the conscience of those who let them get away with it the first time!. Very good luck with that!.
It will probably be down to mental issues again as norm, hopefully the kids were taught a harsh lesson, I’m mid 50’s and if I’d done that to my dads car when I was 17 I would have seriously paid the price
We would have, that's not to say there weren't plenty of idiots around in our day though! 😊
I have owned 2 Smart Fourtwo's the 2 door version. Absolutely brilliant little cars did 130,000 miles in 3 years in both cars motorway and city driving only had a turbo go on first one replaced under warranty just serviced as per schedule mine had all plastic panels around a Tridion steel safety shell. I feel I need to buy another.
Brings back old memories. My daughter 17, took my car from the garage while I was away on a weeks course for work. I came home, noticed the car had been moved and discovered that when she attempted to put the car back she had scraped all down the nearside. I was not happy. Do they really learn?
Good luck lads, this is gonna be an interesting one!
I think Kevin and Perry went out in it without mum and dad around. 👍👍🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧
And had it large!
@@mrstanhope1516 🤣🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
My son 17 at time was doing similar thing and was using my E34 Bmw years back but we had a massive long private road up to our house out in the sticks . One day he tore the complete side of car all the way along it coming out garage . Insurance also wanted me to prosecute so i dropped the claim paid bodyshop myself . Sadly All lads will be lads with cars and cant wait to drive . A lot of people said at the time i should have said it was me driving the car but im too honest for that and would fear being found out . These things always bite you in the end . I wouldnt sit comfortable knowing i had forced prices up for others either etc . Like the family involved i just bit the bullet and accepted the loss . Irony is my son is now 36 and a driving examiner . He would never have that job if i had prosecuted him for twok .
"Get Owt An About An Get Some Bits" Love It.
Imagine coming back home after a whole day of work and seeing your car destroyed by your son with his 18ys old friends 🤦♂️
An angry brat i guess 😂😂
Boy better run 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He would be in jail if he was my Son /Daughter, lessons have to be taught and his/Her actions have to be paid for. Let him/Her off with this one and what is going to happen next time and believe me it will get worse if he / she is allowed to get away Scott free.
I think it was the childs car as got l plates on it but still I’d have had to consider running away from home wen I was a kid to say the s**t would have hit the fan is an understatement 😂
@@russnunn2456I suspect it’s a car bought for the child to learn, but I very much so doubt they paid for it
Dont give up on the cockney accent rob.I'm a forest gate boy and I'm very proud of my accent
Sounds familiar! Someone did the same to me. Fortunately not so much damage, but I was promised the reimbursement of my costs. If I had known I wasn’t getting paid I’d have pressed charges.
Family or no family, they should face the consequences of their actions. Yet another reason why I don't want kids.
To be fair most things should be cheap because unlike early Smart cars - this is a rebadged Renault Twingo. Literally just a badges difference. Great video guys
Always thought these and their Renault twingo cousins were quite interesting cars with their engines in the rear which is quite unusual these days. Looking forward to seeing these videos as it progresses.
There is going to be some refused insurance somewhere, this will be the gift that keeps on giving.
Perhaps best for everyone's sake.
abusng the interior after says it all for me.
Great video again fellas do not know what goes through some people's minds too do this kind of thing wether you know the person or not i am sure you will get it back too its former glory 😊 glad too see that it comes apart pretty easily. I hope that their is some coffee ☕ money 💰 in it for Chris take care and stay lucky and healthy 👍 looking forward too Wednesday's video 📹 already 😊❤.
I can’t believe what they’ve done to the interior
Great project gentlemen. As always, great to see how you work so well together. Thank you for sharing.
Hate to see vandalism like this to me this person deliberately set out to crash this car and carried on afterward.
As always great video… there are some strange situations that you deal with… I love your tact in the way you explain it all. Hope it urns you good money. As always you deserve it… 👍💪👏👌🍻
The n/s front wing is a different shade
I used to work with a lad and his dad was in higher management at the same work place. He used to drive in with his dad when learning to drive, but on two occasions he took the keys from his dads desk and went out on his own and smashed the car (two different cars) and his dad bailed him out each time. He then switched to do his bike test and again come into work a day before he got his license, tried to show off pulling a wheely lost control and went all down the side of my 6month old car. I was going call the police but his dad said i couldnt do that and he would sort it out again so his child didnt get into trouble.
This is problem these days we try to give our kids things we didnt have, but its not the correct way as the person who did this has no respect for their parents and what they do for them and by the parents protecting them from prosecution all they have learnt is that i can do what i want and my parents will sort it therefore promoting this behaviour. One day they might do something that the parents cant bail them out for.
Good evening Rob and Chris, looking forward to see how you get on with this one. How the previous owners family get the support they need and hopefully no one was injured. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Very sad back story to this rebuild. Hope the family manage to sort out their problems. All the best for the rebuild.
Loving the different selection of cars and the selection of the things wrong brilliant content nothing really puts you two off just getting better and better
Parents must be very sad.try your best to help your children and that’s what you get.
Lovely video- thank you
Hi Rob and Chris, nice to have a back story, bit of a shame though. However, great content, lots of bits needed inside and out. Alex.
Had one of those as a courtesy car recently, was ok to drive, found the driving position a little strange, but got used to it after a few days. Enjoyed the video, thanks.
The reason the wipers went on, is its a failsafe designed into the steering column switches. So if theirs a failure, the driver would have wipers still, if needed.
... if there's (contraction of "there is") a failure ...
what a great video....some one who trusted a family member was so kicked in the teeth....yet the family stuck by the idiot.....i would not have.....a lesson needed to be learnt
I don't care who did it family member or not I would've had them charged with twoc
Well done guy's a totally different video that's a lot good content can't wait to see the next one
I know you said you've never done one before Chris just makes it look so easy 👍
Would be interesting to know the price difference on parts between merc and renault.
It's so fascinating watching you two fix vehicles. We'll good. My first time I watched you two was when you fixed a dark blue vauxhall combo van with electric windows which mine has exercise windows. Take care Lads.
Great vid guys! Nice new project!
Brilliant car Rob and Chris it will look amazing
Around fifty years ago I parked my company van at my parents house and went off for the weekend to my then girlfriends house. On Sunday morning my dad arrived and told me my 14 year old brother had taken my van out with his mates on Saturday night and ran it through the front wall of a neighbours house and into their lounge. It was a Marina van about a year or so old. My boss was not impressed.
Interesting different video. Thank you
Bad enough that it was taken without consent, but what is going through a person's mind to vandalise it? Mind boggling.
Difficult choice for the owner, but family come first. Looking forward as always to seeing this one back on the road. As usual you guys make it look so easy and I know it's not it's your experience that makes it look like that.👍👍👍
Your right of course but it won’t do the kid any good in the long run, no discipline any longer!
nice to see something different, not that it stops you guys from dismantling it, parts should be reasonable.
Whoever did this must have mental problems, or have been taking alcohol or drugs, maybe that’s why the owner didn’t want to press charges?
nice vid as usual thanks lads
They should have prosecuted, sometimes tough love is needed so they wont be walked all over like this again, but the spaz attack inside the car really wasnt necessary, i hope whoever did this grows right up
