  • Hey Wanderers! Join us for a pleasant 1/5 mile walk through washes and a slight incline on the South Loop Trail. You'll pass by Tohono Chul's largest group of saguaros and other cacti, thriving here thanks to the perfect soil, climate, and early year rainfall. Oh, and don’t miss the Saguaro Discovery Trail leading to the South Loop, and be sure to check out the rare, crested saguaro at the highest point. On our walk, we spotted a few tiny cottontail rabbits and some unique cacti that you won't see anywhere else. The highlight? One of us spent an exhilarating 6 minutes watching a rattlesnake slither through the garden-talk about a surprise guest! Excitement for at least one of us ha-ha!
The trail also features over 300 native night-blooming cereus, which bloom with large, fragrant white flowers for one night each summer, usually in June or July. Tohono Chul stays open late for this spectacular event, with luminaria-lit paths for visitors. The trail is partially wheelchair accessible.
Join us on this short adventure and experience this desert garden's wonders (and wildlife surprises) with the Wash Wanderers!
