The Ordinary's Niacinamide Serum didn't become one of the best selling skincare products for no reason. It it works, people will buy. End of discussion.
People buy this product because the price is cheap compared to the ingredients they offer. You can find better products with much better formulations. But the price will be higher.

I agree with you 💯 I have used also every product on the market that promises to clear my acne up but nothing. I have been suffering with acne since I was a teenager now i 38 with a teenager of my own and was still suffering with acne till I started using the ordinary product about 4 months ago and my skin is the clearest I have ever see it in years. No acne break outs in about 3 months now.
I would recommend patch test. Thankfully I took it off after one minute yet my skin burned for 30 mins straight and I had red bumps all over my face. It worked on my mum though so it's better to check first.
He's a dermatologist for a reason.. and he's trying to educate you all. As he already mentioned, if it suits your skin keep using. So atleast maintain the decency to respect him. Isn't really necessary to be rude :)
I think a good point to add here is that this product doesn’t irritate ALL skin, only some. Also, you may mix this product with your moisturizer instead of under it to avoid or reduce any irritation.

@@thepink3798 hhhmmm..... I don’t know exactly what combination doesn’t make my face looks oily. I think u should know the cause of your oily skin. Knowing your skin need is important. Although i have oily and acne prone skin, i always use oily skin cleanser and moisturizer in my combination.
Been using this for 4 months now and I absolutely love it. I pair it with their Azelaic Acid 10% Suspension and that's the only combo that ever worked for my stubborn, acne-prone and oily skin.
Same thoughts. I feel like these products are never "one size fits all". If it works for you, great but if you are not sure and worried about it then just dont drop it. If you are still persistent, then dont forget to do patch test for a week and dont use another product with it to really see if it is compatible with your skin.

I thought I was purging but it never stopped. I had high expectations for this product but eventually ended up not using it anymore.
It works perfectly on my skin. I've been using it for quite a long time. My skin is brighter and lesser breakout now. This serum amazed me and I start to explore other The Ordinary serums. I apply it after using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum. I think it's suitable for oily and acne prone skin, if your skin is dry or sensitive, maybe it will irritate your skin.

To be fair, the title is worded in such a way to invoke strong emotions and get people interacting with the video so most hardcore fans/“haters” are going to go straight to the comments to voice their opinions lol. You’re right tho, people should watch the video first and it seems like Niacinamide is one of the TO products that people really love or hate 😂
@@avivaklein are you sure it's a break out and not a purge? Or maybe just an irritation reaction (in case you applied it twice or more times in a row without training your skin to adjust to it)?
@@avivaklein As they've said above, maybe it's purging as it ocurred only 2 days after. For me it's being a process of months, until I realize it was the Niacinamide that was causing more breakouts. I stopped it 10 days ago and I can already see a difference...Right now I switched to the Hidratating cleanser from Cerave (I have deshidratated skin), and as serums: on the morning I use HA from the ordinary . At night Vitamin C . I have tried to stop including too many products in my face, and it seems it is working. But I assume for every person can be different :)
I guess I can try to slow it down. I’ve been using it twice a day and lathering it on my face. After reading some comments maybe I’m applying to much of the product? When you were putting it on was it looking like soap on your face at first? I’m not doing a ton I know that sounds excessive but I was doing about eight drops on my whole face
I have been using it for more than 6 months and it has made changes to my skin at the age of 50 years, it is getting chewier and tighter, so I continue to use it.
I've been using The ordinary niacinamide for 3 years now and my skin has never looked better. I used to have super oily acne prone skin. Now my skin still gets shiny, but never greasy like before. And I only get the occasional pimple during my period or ovulation. So definitely works for me. Not everyone's skin is the same.
I appreciate what you have to say about the percentage used by the Ordinary and practically every product out there selling Niacinamide at 10%. Skin of colour can not afford products that will irritate it because irritation leads to hyperpigmentation in skin of colour and who needs that? Thank you for explaining ways we can dilute the product which has so many other benefits in the right concentration.
well, i do agree with this video that at high concentration (solely 10% when i first used), i had a lot of issues. now i dilute it (2 drops only) with a water-based moisturizer in the morning and my skin cleared soooo much.
I’ve been using this for almost a year now and it has significantly improved the texture of my skin. Along with other Korean and Japanese skin care, the Ordinary niacinamide has been one of my staple skin care products. It has helped a lot with my hyperpigmentation caused by hormonal breakouts. My skin have never been so good, i only use tinted moisturiser and sunscreen now, no need for concealers or foundation!
I just started using it. My skin was horrible. Red rosacea cheeks and nose, hormonal breakouts. My skin colour is coming back faster than expected, almost day by day. If you have any suggestion for japanese/korean products or channels, I would be so grateful since I just started addressing this issue.. and finally feeling hopeful. ❤ ty for sharing!
the ORDINARY products were NOT BAD you just have to choose the RIGHT ONE. As a beginner in skincare community, the Ordinary helps me in the first 6mo. to achieve better results. Now since the skincare industry is growing, there are so many options to choose from, and my number one factor is AFFORDABILITY.
The ordinary niacinamide has definitely make my skin so so so much better. It’s the only product that I’ve noticed a big difference from. The first time I ever heard of it was from Hyrams UA-cam videos about the ordinary. Soon as I heard about it I got it and I’m so thankful I did. My skin isn’t great but it’s extremely better than it used to be.
That’s okay!!!! Not everything works for everyone!!!!! Try inkey list. Their niacinamide has a diff formula that works pretty much for the opposite skin than the ordinary (was told by professionals they recommend the ordinary one to oily types and the inkey one to dry skins). Use little to build resistance. I was told their formula was pretty gentle!!! And remember not to use any products with vit c with niacinamide bc it makes the skin react badly!
Jamie it’s normal to Break out after you begin using it . How long did you used it ? If you really don’t see any improvement after 1 month than it’s not for your skin. You should try krave beauty or the inkey list
@@hayley8077 !! Yes!!! @@akina7450 even BETTER!!! Especially with Niacinimide. As for Vitamin C, as long as it's your first step. And make sure to leave the Retinol for your last. Bu gotta remember ph balances when applying these serum bc if they're not applied in the correct order, you're just canceling them all out.. Vitamin C has the lowest PH usually of around 3 or 3.5 so that should always be your 1st step in any skin care. Niacinimide carries a ph of around 6... so make sure that goes on towards the end of your application. Then of course followed by your Retinol. And unless your skin is really adapted to it's strength, make sure your face is mostly dry before applying your Retinol. This will help you fight any redness or irritation✌

@@akina7450 Everything sounded perfect, except I would apply the Hyaluronic acid right after your Vitamin C🥰 HA generally has a ph balance that is closest to our natural skin barrier, at around a 5/5.5. So that's where I would place it in that particular regimen you listed👍And most definitely before applying your Niacinimide and Retinol
@@akina7450 Oh! And if you want to use an AHA or ABA in your regiment, you totally can. I would just alternate it on the times when you're not applying your Retinol. Those two are dangerous to mix! But say you want to use your aha toner in the morning and your Retinol at night... you could do that too!
I've always mixed the Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid with the Niacinamide just because it was easier and they pair well together. I've never had any problem with any form of Niacinamide, but that's good to know. Their AHA chemical peel also gets a bad rap because people don't read the label that it is a high dose, and to only leave it on for a few minutes. So thank you for both sides of this particular item.

I think this product is a hit or miss. A lot of people use this as their holy grail product, but for someone like me who has combination-sensitive skin type, it broke me out. Dr. Dray and Dr. Sam on UA-cam ,both certified board dermatologists, recommend this product. Anything of course in high concentrations, can be irritating to the skin. But even at low concentrations Niacinamide can be Irritable for some people.
Where does Dr Dray recommend this? She consistently says that high strength (10-20%) niacinamide serums are not necessary and can be irritating. She consistently advocates instead for niacinamide-containing moisturisers (or essences) at a concentration of 2-5%.
High % niacinamide made it to Dr. Dray's Top 10 Worst Skin Care Trends of 2020: 10%, 15% and 20% and warned about potential irritation. Paula's Choice was a special mention. But at the end of the day, it's up to the consumers to buy and use.

Maybe you're using wrong or using too much , you should start with once a week and work your way up , and always use two drops of the serum between your hands and then apply it , don't pair it with other active ingredients , use a moisturizer after , a sunscreen, and if your skin is breaking use the moisturizer before the serum , the moisturizer in this case protect the skin from direct contact with the irritated skin

Do patch test first before using it 😊
I agree though. It made me break out so badly. Like huge cystic acne and redness all over my face, even on areas where i dont get acne. I've heard of other people having the same adverse reaction to TO niacinamide. I was super hyped to try it but it's too bad that it doesn't suit my skin :((

This product breaks me out but i keep convincing myself that it's purging instead of breaking out then keep using it. One day I decide to stop using it for 3 days and bump, my skin is so much better. Then a month later I want to try it again and just for one day, 3 or 4 whiteheads comeback. I think the problem is this product, not niacinamide
I broke out when I started using it, and couldn’t figure it out because I thought it was supposed to clear acne. I read reviews of it and connected the dots. Stopped using it and my skin immediately cleared up.
Like he said in another video "If it hurts, it's bad for the skin." Everybody has to try products. And for people, who think it's to aggressive, it's a great tip to mix it. Don't be rude.
I destroyed my body taking roaccutane decades ago. I wish niacinamide had been on offer then to reduce oil. I do need a really low low dose though or else I burn and get dry dry.
I am asian and have been using this 3years and it’s actually really good.it only kind of tingled for the first few uses but it doesn’t afterwards. My acne is way clearer now only get a few pimples here and there. my face is also less oily so it does depend on the person using it.it could be good for some people but bad for others
I wouldn't warn people to avoid this altogether. Skincare is either you are suitable with it or you're not (although there are some straight up dangerous skincare that is not approved by FDA or smth). Most people I know get along well with this TO Niacinamide, I know few people did break out using this. I also personally used this for 1 bottle. I personally feel it just improves my overall skin, like it looks healthier and when I do get acne every month before my period, it makes my acne less severe. I never feel any irritation, tingling, or everything else you mentioned, it could be because I used only 1 bottle. I don't know. My point is, I just don't think this is a product that is so dangerous that must be warned to the public to avoid altogether. I still would recommend this to everyone and if it makes your skin irritated or breaks you out, stop the usage. Just make sure that you are buying the original The Ordinary products because there are soo many fake TO products, especially here in Malaysia.
I’ve bought this product as my colleague recommended that it has a lot of good reviews. So I used for a couple of days I’ve noticed that instead of healing my pimples It became worst like when I woke up another 2-3 small pimples came out so I decided to stop it. And I really regret using it. So my advice better stick to the product which your skin suited well.
I’ve only been using the niacinamide for a week now and I notice a huge difference in my skin, i live in humid climate and it makes me skin less greasy and adds a glow! also i use it with a HA moisturizer and i have no irritation and redness which is surprising because i have dermatitis!! I am not dermatologist but I can say that it has helped my skin so far
As someone who has had acne since i was 12 and im 23 now, let me tell you this product WORKS but i feel like it’s more for skin that it’s recovering from the worst part of acne, like scars and some little pimple here and there. I don’t feel this product is for acne that it’s really bad since these are acids and i feel like they can make your skin worse so you all should be careful with that. It’s doing wonders for me right now but i think it’s because my acne is really no that bad anymore and im just struggling with scars.
I keep my routine simple, and this along with hyaluronic acid are the only serums I use. I'm 35 and just started to get acne for the first time in my life and it has changed and help my skin so much. I get some cystic acne spots and they feel better when I use this serum. Niacinamide is meant not to be used just by itself the percentages are just too high mix it with your regular moisturizer or other serum that suit to be mix with it. Plus all The Ordinary products can only be used if you have a strong basic skincare routine as you will receiving the direct acid solution from it. Without it you will definitely get more breakouts rather than healing your skin problems. I am not professional skincare person but i just talked from my experiences. I only use 2 The ordinary products in my life. The rest are just Khiels, SK-II, neutrogena, laneige, inkey list and lush

Hey what's about your open pores ... Does it minimise or not ?

I've always mixed the Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid with the Niacinamide just because it was easier and they pair well together. I've never had any problem with any form of Niacinamide, but that's good to know. @@zarithbritney3127 yes. Initially i thought my skin can't take this product, but after a while i noticed a pattern.
Usually, my skin welcomes acne (lots of em especially my cheek area) 2-3 days before my period. However, when i started using it, they arrived earlier - 1 week or so, before my period. All this is happening within half a year.
Now, acne rarely appears when my period is about to start and some of the acne scars diminished (not entirely but to me it is a sign of hope). Hope this answered your question.
I cancelled my order right away after watching this video!! You saved me from regretting! Thanks !
I used this for a while but couldn’t get through a bottle as it started to sting my face.
Might have been using to much or too often. I watched something that said start with once a week and see how it goes.
Nice call. Many derms always say its fine to feel tingling on the skin but not stinging
I was using too much when it made my skin sting.
My son is fighting acne for last 3-4 years and we were sick of antibacterial ointments, face washes, prescription medicine as none of them worked and as he turned 12 he became more like a recluse, but this one solved the problem within a couple of days, it works. not only that his skin is brighter.. Those complaining maybe need to try small amount only and just once in the morning after cleansing your skin and not go overboard and then see the changes. Always washing off in the evening before going to bed may help with bad reaction.
Omg I thought you guys agreed to avoid it. It indeed really ruined my skin lol. I purchased it because of the hype but I regret using it so much 😭 It was the only change I made in my routine and I got non-stop breakout for 6 months, 6 MONTHS, I gave up and now I’m still recovering.
I just brought mine today now Im afraid to use itttttt
@@unniejihyo3647 I’m sorry to scare you. Maybe it just didn’t work for me. Please do patch test and mix it with moisturizer to dilute it first.
@@niadegushi ty for the advice!❤️
Maybe you're using wrong or using too much , you should start with once a week and work your way up , and always use two drops of the serum between your hands and then apply it , don't pair it with other active ingredients , use a moisturizer after , a sunscreen, and if your skin is breaking use the moisturizer before the serum , the moisturizer in this case protect the skin from direct contact with the irritated skin
@@unniejihyo3647 don't be afraid to use it if you have oily acne prone skin , just do your research before on how to use it then you should be good to go , in general you should always research how to use a product, watch different reviews on UA-cam, they really help
It's a holy grail for oily skin. But for dry skin it's harmful if used more than it should be. Saying from my own experience
glad i'm oily skin, planning to buy this, thank u
@@superdaemon yeah it will control sebum production and acne. Try if you want. But research more
I am using nicinamide frm past 6 months I can tell u it has done amazing to my skin I had lot of acne marks redness but nw almost my skin is clearing I am very happy with this product my skin is sensitive oily and acne prone but I hv nt seen any irritation or other disadvantages
That's great
Which moisturiser you mix it with ?
@@dhurgarajendran7503 I don't mix it with any moisturiser I use nicinamide has a serum and the moisturizer wic u use is frm dermafique cell by cell moisturizer and I use the serum nicinamide only at night
It has been a game changer for my acne.
Hello @@hazellbianca that's a good idea to buy this amazing product use this only in night and I to have a oily sensitive and acne prone skin I had lot of red marks to I started to use a less percentage of this serum like 5% and after 3months I started using this serum with 10% concentration when ur using 10% one please use it very less like I use to put 4 drops of nicinamide on my palm and then would dab it on that area where I had marks
This niacinamide really wrecks my skin, way too irritating to my skin. I m Asian, been using 3% without any problems at all. I heart the magic of this serum and went out to buy it only found my skin to itch, to get red, dry and flake horribly. Thank you for spreading the info, which is so needed instead of the craziness over this product. I now ditch it and return to my 3% old niacinamide.
Don't blame the product it works great with everyone else... it is your responsibility to choose whatever you want... atleast you knew your skin does not react good with high conc of niacinamide
Thank you doc. No wonder, since im using niacinamide 10% i noticed got more acnes than before. And part of my face became drier. Best regard from Indonesia.
Ya its not suitable for everyone :(
Same
I am also one of the asian guys who swear by this Ordinary niacinamide 10% + Zinc. I've been using it for more than a year and it never breaks me out. However, at the very first time of using this high concentration it might feel a bit tingling but not that bad. Eventually my skin looks pretty much better than before.
How u use it?
@@virgogirl5763 Sometimes I use it with my Vit C serum and some days I even use it alone or followed by a moisturizer and then a sunscreen for A.M.
@@VirgoKC okay thankyou :))
I legit put on niacinamide today and woke up to red face after my nap. how did youtube know what i was facing without even saying anything 😳😳😳 sussss
Magic :P
u probably have a fake one. the ordinary niacinamide works wonders. try to check the legitimacy of the product that you have.
It doesn’t suit everyone, like any other products. It really made a positive difference for me.
When I first used it, my cheeks was burning and red. I stopped using it but after a few weeks, I started using again but in the smallest amount. It’s lit soo good
@@spooderman132 i got real one, and got breakout. doesnt matter
Totally agreed with you doctor, I have used this and experienced tingling effects on my face and it became red and itchy. Now I understood that it’s because of 10% concentration of Niacinamide on it, thanks for explaining it!
I used to have forehead acne until I started using The Ordinary's Niacinamide. I once ran out and couldn't use it for a week or so and my acne came back. It must be down to individual skin 😊
I have forehead acne too,, do you recommend the ordinary? Pls let me know
I have terrible forehead acne scars and thanks to niacinamide, it’s Way better now
@@joaquinamarques2676 thank you. Does it sting when you first use it?
@@suzeeabdelrahman6978 I tried the ordinary azelaic acid, been doing amazing job to my skin. And paula’s choice BHA liquid exfoliant but I’m using them on day or night routine
I tried this product last summer (2022) and found it irritated my olive combination skin a lot. I definitely found it too strong to the point I thought I had an allergy. I'm in agreement with Dr Ingky on this one.
Good to know!
The Ordinary ruined my skin. Don’t get fooled by the low price point. Your skin deserves better. Haven’t found one single Ordinary product that didn’t break me out (not just purging) or ruined my skin barrier, and I don’t even have acne prone skin.
• buffet
• hyaluronic acid
• niacinamide & zink
• glycolic acid
• squalene
• rose hip seed oil
Just to mention a few.
Sensitive, or even allergic.
Not everyone will have the same reaction as you.
You're just unlucky!
He said that if your skin works well with the niacinamide 10% then YOU CAN CONTINUE. He meant that it is better 1-5% only. But I don’t understand the comment section people don’t like how he review this product lol. He even say it in a nice way to prevent people get breakouts, for people to understand more about the product. Not everyone will get the same results. Btw my skin is good with niacinamide 10%. Do patch test first before using it 😊
I agree though. It made me break out so badly. Like huge cystic acne and redness all over my face, even on areas where i dont get acne. I've heard of other people having the same adverse reaction to TO niacinamide. I was super hyped to try it but it's too bad that it doesn't suit my skin :((
I think your allergic to niacinamide why not try vitamin c
Try diluting it, i had redness from using it alone but now i combine it, redness subsided, great product but one just needs to learn how to work with it...
I agree @Gail, the same thing happened to me, even when diluting it. I tried the 5% and it worked wonderfully
@@HansensUniverseT-A how to delute it?
i ordered it today and I’ really afraid to use it. I believe it works for some people and that it doesn’t for some and that it depends on the skin type. But what type of skin is it for then? My skin is quite sensitive and I think it’s combination skin and my skin barrier is healing because it was damaged. Should I use it or no? pleasee help!
It really helped my acne prone skin.
I still use this product and again I will continue using it.
Thank You, I actually bought the product 2 weeks ago. Upon using the product for about 5 days, my skin was very irritated and I immediately stopped.
I actually had this happen after using the ordinary brand. I had to stop using it and to make things worst it left me scars
Is this man trying to start a war? 😂 don’t mess with our Niacinamide
Lol...
I keep my routine simple, and this along with hyaluronic acid are the only serums I use. I'm 35 and just started to get acne for the first time in my life and it has changed and help my skin so much. I get some cystic acne spots and they feel better when I use this serum. The inkey list serum is also on my routine, it doesn't sting in case you have that issue with the ordinary and is a little less runny.
Do You apply both at the same time? Which one do you apply first? I'm New on this.
I’m Vietnamese and live in VietNam. I’ve used this products for 2 years, It changed my life made my skin and my sister skin so much better I haven’t had acnes for many months and had no side effects. I keep restock and restock.
When I used this last time, my skin becomes oilier & did not help the acne at all..
Maybe it's fake, since Ordinary products tend to be little on legit Markets because it's popular. There are a lot of bogus sellers online.
If you use to much it can cause that. I only use like 2-3 drops and I mix it in my moisturaizer like 2-3 times a week and is perfecttt. I have oily skin and it did wonders
It can also be because your skin is purging like all the stop that’s in the feels of the skinnn
It's literally the only product that stops my oiliness and I have very very oily skin, like an oil spill. Is it possible that the batch you got wasn't authentic?
It might be because you're using the wrong moisturizer
Ugh I hated this product. Definitely the worst I’d ever used. Felt horribly tacky and sticky even after using just one drop and it left my skin irritated, red, burning and breaking out. Never again.
This makes so much sense now. Lots of other UA-camrs were hailing this as their saviour. But when I tried using it, my skin just couldn't handle it. Super disappointed over it. And what's the difference between breakout and purging?
Common issue with Asian skin with TO's niacinamide.
We will be launching a new video on breakout vs purging soon
First time Use was unsuitable, I started alpha arbutin first, after 1 month, i tried again and then I say I will use this forever 🥰
sorry doc, i cant agree this time. this product has brightened my skin and made my pores smaller.my holy grail.
Im asian and this is my fav serum. The first time i use this product make my skin red and breakout. I stopped it and i try again after 1 week.. and this product make my skin better until now.. my acne is gone and the skin barrier getting better 🧡🧡🧡
Nice! :)
Do you use it in the morning or at night ??
Thanks for introducing the products. After reading all the comment below, I decided to buy one for myself
now im on my 3rd bottle TO niacinamide n suitable to my skin .. from breakout to flawless .. 😊
Sounds great!
Same here!
Same!
Same!
when you first tried it to your face do you have breakouts?
Niacinamide is meant not to be used just by itself the percentages are just too high mix it with your regular moisturizer or other serum that suit to be mix with it. Plus all The Ordinary products can only be used if you have a strong basic skincare routine as you will receiving the direct acid solution from it. Without it you will definitely get more breakouts rather than healing your skin problems. I am not professional skincare person but i just talked from my experiences. I only use 2 The ordinary products in my life. The rest are just Khiels, SK-II, neutrogena, laneige, inkey list and lush
Thanks for getting in my recommended after I just bought it 😃
If you read the comments, this video is complete made-up bs lol.
inkey list must have paid this man under the table
