I appreciate what you have to say about the percentage used by the Ordinary and practically every product out there selling Niacinamide at 10%. Skin of colour can not afford products that will irritate it because irritation leads to hyperpigmentation in skin of colour and who needs that? Thank you for explaining ways we can dilute the product which has so many other benefits in the right concentration.

  • @ostcx

This product is working great on my skin. In my opinion, this product is meant to regulate sebum production but it does its job too well so I highly suggest to put hydrating toner before (or even hydrating essence) and moisturizer after. This product is far less irritating on my skin than vit c or aha/bha. But different result might arise on different skin type/condition though.

Don’t use it on dry face, put it on wet face. after you wash your face, don’t towel dry, just wipe water off with your hand and use only like 2 drops on wet skin. This way, 10% niacinamid won’t be too strong.

@@christineaaskov5842 one or two drops are enough to even cover your neck. Drop the product in your palm rub your hands together and pat the product into the skin and then very gently and softly blend it a bit. You should not have a wet-like face after applying it.
Over applying is bad. The skin is not going to absorb the product in the best way possible, it better applying less and adding a little bit than over do it.

I used to use this product and I can say that it works well for me for the first 1-2weeks which is my skin getting less oily and pore seen smaller. During that period I do have new acne but I consider it as purging and continue using it. After like using for 1 bottle and a half, which is most likely 4-5monthe of me using the niacinamide, I decide to stop as my skin become more worst. I discontinued completely and this is when I start to use BFC from nihon and the most well know local brand Kayman and Zarzou.. those work wonder on my skin and it’s getting better. For those who are interested in using niacinamide, I would suggest you to find any skincare with low percentage of niacinamide in it. Now I’m dealing with scars. So wish me luck for a better skin.

Great info! I might be one who can handle larger doses of it. I suffer from adult acne and have tried everything. The ordinary niacinamide is the only thing that has cleared it up. I don't use any other products with it except a basic hydrating cream. I've read there are a lot of products that don't do well with niacinamide and can cause breakouts and irritation. Keeping it simple has worked for me.

I think this product is a hit or miss. A lot of people use this as their holy grail product, but for someone like me who has combination-sensitive skin type, it broke me out. Maybe because the Niacinamide amount is too strong for me, because when I switched to a cream with Niacinamide, it worked so much better, and did lighten my acne marks.

I have small pimples across my face and sometimes, during periods, I would get bigger bumps but those go away pretty quick. I’ve heard so many talking wonders about this product so thought I should give it a try. There were a few minor bumps from after period and this product exaggerated those. I would wake up to horrible acne, ones I’ve never had before and it was devastating. After a while it keeps getting worse, I stopped using it and put on a clay mask with probiotics. The bumps disappeared literally in the next day. After 2 days they’re all gone just some light pigments. I’m using tea tree oil product that contains salycilic acid and my face is doing fine now. I had so much expectations in this product, sad it didn’t work out.

I wouldn't warn people to avoid this altogether. Skincare is either you are suitable with it or you're not (although there are some straight up dangerous skincare that is not approved by FDA or smth).
Most people I know get along well with this TO Niacinamide, I know few people did break out using this. I also personally used this for 1 bottle. I personally feel it just improves my overall skin, like it looks healthier and when I do get acne every month before my period, it makes my acne less severe. I never feel any irritation, tingling, or everything else you mentioned, it could be because I used only 1 bottle. I don't know.
My point is, I just don't think this is a product that is so dangerous that must be warned to the public to avoid altogether. I still would recommend this to everyone and if it makes your skin irritated or breaks you out, stop the usage. Just make sure that you are buying the original The Ordinary products because there are soo many fake TO products, especially here in Malaysia.

when I applied this over my breakouts I did get the stinging, but I thought that was most likely cause they were open cuts and spots. I've been using it for a few months, not as consistently as I should, but it doesn't hurt and I don't notice any irritation. it feels smooth and doesn't give me any immediate redness. for reference I have paler mixed race skin of black descent, I know different ingredients are different of skin of colour!

So I used for a couple of days I’ve noticed that instead of healing my pimples It became worst like when I woke up another 2-3 small pimples came out so I decided to stop it. And I really regret using it. So my advice better stick to the product which your skin suited well.

Oooooooh that explains a lot, i actually love my niacinamide and zinc serum it is not from the ordinary, and it is 12% and 2% zinc, it is amazing, i really love it but i noticed less is more, i usually use just 3 drops diluted in another serum, i do it directly on the palm of my hand and apply, and it did wonders, but as soon as i tried to use it pure my skin started to break out a little bit, so that's why! And that's why the brand actually recommend to use it with a moisturiser or another serum xD
