Hendrix was Hendrix...Gary Clark, Jr. is Gary Clark, Jr. Let's stop comparing and sit back and let the music take us into a journey. That's what it's all about. Let's all be lucky to have had Jimi and have him as a breath of fresh air 42 years later. Cheers!
Every new version i hear of 'When my Train pulls in', it gives me chill. I listen to many performance of this song and still i can listen to it more version. It looks like every performance by Gary, he tries new thing and it just gets amazing.
Why? just why? why didn't I ever hear these chaps before? This needs to be everywhere. Hendrix influence is visible but that's an awesome thing. Very few people are keeping that vibe alive. Just amazing guys. Pure brilliance!
When so much has already been said before in the genre of blues, it takes a great artist like Gary Clark Jr to come and make it sound fresh again. Fantastic stuff.
I disagree. Not saying I don't like Gary Clark Jr, but if you think the music today sucks, you are not listening enough. Yeah most of what you hear on top 40 isn't that good, but there is a ton of music that has come out in the past few years that is great.
I just saw Gary on Austin City limits not too long ago... what a player! I don't know if he's channeling Jimi, Albert or whoever and I don't care. Anybody that doesn't like the Blues is missing out big time on this very talented young man.
September 29, House of Blues Anaheim. Looking forward to that date and location. Considering he is playing the Wiltern a couple days before, I feel lucky to see him at the smallish HOB. I was lucky enough to be in Anaheim the day the tickets went on sale. Its gonna jam. Good to see someone big coming out of Austin, again...
No comparisons made mate...Still, everyone needs some time to acknowledge it is Rock'n'Roll. Without playing it would have been dead by now. Hence - keep the spirit alive. Equality.
The. " double entendre" of this song is messin' with my head after two public figures committed suicide this past week. But I cant stop listening to it. Gary's a genius !

aaaaand, now I've found a new artist to binge listen. holy crap he's good.
I know right
Yes he is amazing. He is coming to Reno soon. I would love to see him but tickets are spendy.

Of all the versions and mixes, this one is by far the best for this song.
Rudolph Mare sounds Purdy goot, but sheck out the jam in the van version
This band plays really well together. Love to see them live.

Love that dirty bluesy sound. Between Gary, the black keys and band of skulls I'd says his neo blues needs no help being saved.
