The tilting mechanism became loose on my umbrella, causing it to lean to one side. Here I provide a quick, easy, and inexpensive way to fix the problem. Use 2 hose clamps.
I think the hose clamp is the best solution. Just keep a screwdriver handy to release the clamps when you need to close the umbrella, as mentioned by another viewer. Thanks man.
Can't believe I didn't think of that! I tried duct tape, E6000 industrial glue, and a 'weld' putty. None of it worked. I had even just bought a couple of hose clamps a few days ago, for a new backwash hose. Did not dawn on me to try to use them on the umbrella. You saved us from buying a new patio umbrella. THANKS !!!!!!
This is Fing genius. I was going to try the JB Weld and fuse the thing together, but this WORKS! I keep a 1/4" socket drive with a 8mm socket handy, loosen just a bit, and they slide down the pole, and then crank the thing shut. When the wind calms down, slide them back up and tighten. Genius!!!
thanks for the useful video, I have a umbrella for my motorcycle and each time I drive over rough terrain, it closes on me. Do you think the hose clamps will prevent it from closing??
thanks for your vid. i drilled holes through the pole that holds up the umbrella. then I screwed the 2 screws that hold the umbrella pole in place. that worked for me.No more spinning. you may also try lifting up the metal base, and there's a screw underneath, and tighten that up too.
What size hose clamp? Just put it around where it bends and that will keep the umbrella up straight? I just want one more year it's only a year old not even!
I doubt i could go a week w/o regretting leaving an umbrella open. where do you live that you an do that? I have a shademobile 120lb base which blew over and my tilt lock broke. the lock does not prevent left tilt but right tilt still works.
But you should have the ability to close the umbrella if a storm or high winds should approach your environment. If the umbrella cannot close and it gets caught in high wind, it could cause personal injury to someone or it could damage other property.
they wear out, so I think the best solution is to use the hose clamps or buy a new umbrella. i just bought a new umbrella without the tilt mechanism to avoid this problem. alternatively, they make umbrellas with "auto tilt" which tilts as you turn the hand crank. those may be better, but they cost more.
You bet! Fast forward to today and I now only purchase umbrellas that don't have the tilting mechanism. I've learned that they all fail and the umbrella will never stand up straight. If you have any OCD, this will drive you absolutely insane!
@@bradmizzou I bought an umbrella on Amazon. 11 footer from abba patio. Their customer service is nonexistent. Leans after only 2 months of ownership. I thought of this solution myself but then I'm like damn it how am I going to close the umbrella. I'm upset. Take care!
@@kentdavies1988I got the same one and just unpacked it after finishing the deck. Broken a week later so I'm on UA-cam trying to fix it. What a piece of shit.
It is awful. This umbrella is long gone in favor of a Tropishade 11' Sunbrella with no tilt mechanism. The canopy is black and hasn't faded in over 3 years. It stays on the deck 365 days a year. They aren't cheap but they last and won't sag on a cheap tilt mechanism!
Big Thank you !I tried with zip ties but no go I’m going to Walmart right now to get some hose clamps .

Thanks for posting! Ours broke in a windstorm and I absolutely did not want to throw it away.
Only fix anywhere? Good thinking and nice job but if I can't close it after it's not really fixed.

Works good. You just have to loosen the hose clamps and let them drop so that you can close the umbrella with a hand crank.
Good point
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH. I WAS TRYING TO FIND NEW CENTERS FOR THEM BUT DID AS YOU SUGGESTED AND IT WORKED FINE. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS.
Thanks that's exactly what I needed to see
Just what I needed. Thanks.
Thank you. I have been struggling on how to fix it.
Thanks! Good advice. I was gonna use duck tape lol
I did and it did not work!!!
JB weld the arm straight. Get it inside the tilt mechanism and let dry 24 hours.
Genius 👍
Thanks for this advice

No wind where you live? I'm currently looking up repair videos because ours was left open during a thunderstorm storm with high winds.
I'm going to try it!
Thanks bro. Problem solved.

This is a temporary solution
Si...ma con le fascette non lo chiudi più...invece se infili un pezzo di tubo resistente sopra lo snodo poi lo puoi tirare su e giù per chiuderlo!
I will like to know how to fix or put on track the spring of the umbrella
i wish i could help, but i am not sure how to fix that. there may be other videos on youtube on how to do that, so maybe do a search. good luck!

leave those extra peices on for when you unscrew your clamp enough to lower the umbrella.
It's exactly what I did as well
Any idea how to fix the tilting mechanism?

exactly the same thing i did!
we are brilliant human beings!
What about when it’s windy?
I would loosen the hose clamp and lower the umbrella.
The only drawback is a major drawback lol

That tilt mechanism is awful but it’s unfortunately on 90% umbrellas nowadays.
