The box is whatever he’s addicted to, he keeps trying to get away, but he starts shaking (withdraws) and is in pain. Every time he has to go find that hidden box, possibly because he’s ashamed of it? He opens it and is lifted up (getting high, drunk maybe?). But the box is in a trap, like the nails and razors etc. so getting his hands on that substance hurts him, but he needs it to stop the withdraws. Stuck in a cycle of trying to escape, withdraws, hurting himself to get his drug/alcohol. Any time he tries to reach out to the people on the other side of the foggy glass, he can’t get through because of the withdraws and has to go back to his drug. Unfortunately if you’ve ever had a family member addicted to hard drugs the visuals will be very familiar..
Probably by far the best explanation of this video I've ever come across! Being a retired fireman, I've come across alot of addiction. Alot of narcan and seen people's lives destroyed by addiction. Well said. Oh also I grew up on Tool from the 90's epic group
I'm glad he listened to the original first. THEN anything else… HE CAN DECIDE which is better… or that there is any difference at all! You know… just like we were able to?
The Conjuring franchise! 👍🏿, This song takes me back, when I was younger I worked as a bouncer and doorman at this club called The Lizard Lounge in Dallas. When this song came on, the dance 🕺🏿 floor would go insane! Oh, it was mainly played on Thursday and Sunday night when the club was called, “ The Church “ and played Gothic Industrial music.
The box is always black inside because that’s what you inevitably get with an addiction. No matter how many times you try to slake the “thirst” the box, that is you, is still empty
I think for the most part of the video the little guy opening and closing the box represents the addiction of whatever substance, and the visual of him looking like he has the shakes probably from trying to stay sober but just cant help himself.
Been a Tool fan since I heard Opiate back in the early 90's, there is one song that has bars BEYOND bars, & that is Right in Two that essentially tells you the evolution & demise of humans upon this earth.
The guitar player Adam Jones is largely responsible for the production of their videos. He also worked on the visual effects of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
Tool is a band that don't spoon feed the listeners. They make music that makes one think. Many of their songs don't have a narrative set in stone, but can have different meanings/interpretations.
You gotta do Tool - Ænema. H. Stinkfist. Pushit.Opiate. Def songs worth checking out. Have some lyrics pulled up also. The more you listen the more you will get it, def a band that grow on people.
I still think Tools most meaningfull song is Right in Two. a very powerful message that hits the bar Stevie Knight is looking for that he mentioned at the end of this video
The box is his addiction. He floats when he's around it (high, drunk) but when he's aways from it he's weak and shaking (withdrawals) he wants to leave and connect with the outside world but can't bc of his addiction
Your way behind cuz, the singer of Tool is also the singer of Puscifer and A perfect circle. Have a nice trip down the worm hole. Maynard is incredibly brilliant. He's the Em of Rock music.
A perfect circle, The outsider Same lead singer. It's off the 13th step album. From start to finish I walks you through addition When he says bullet. It's about a bag of dope. Your pounding on the fault line. Needle in arm
This was my little brothers fav songs to do karaoke to. He passed away 4 years ago. Usually hearing this makes me cry but this time I smiled a little bit. Love this song.
The live version of this song is so powerful, you should check that out at some point (even if you don’t do a reaction). There’s so much passion behind the song from every member of Tool in that particular music video.
You have got to stay on Tool!!! You will not regret it!!! Lateralus, Stinkfist, Vicarious, Wings for Marie Pt.1 and 2, Third Eye, Parabol and Parabola, Jambi, hell I can go on and on! If you wanna work your mind and really start thinking about shit.... TOOL
This was the song that really launched Tool. I had never heard them before this was on MTV in the 90's and I was like wow, a real ass genuine original song for once holy hell what is going on.
Yo Stevie...you want a tool song with bars and a sick Instrumental???? LATERALUS!!!! Also any member of the Tool Army will tell you keep away from the music videos cuz the visuals can be distracting...lookin forward to c ur face on that one Big Dawg!!!!
Excellent Steve I'm glad you enjoyed it! There is sooo many songs to take you down the path you want! Try SCHISM OR STINKFIST, ENIMA OR A REAL JOURNEY.... PNEUMA
Tool is one of my all time favorites, I had the pleasure of watching them live and they did not disappoint especially when they had a light show with it. 🙌🙌
Agree with those but mostly NIN. He could start by Wish, Somewhat Damaged, March of The Pigs, then go into The Fragile, The Great Below, Right Where It Belongs... There's no way to be disappointed about Nine Inch Nails. Hell, last week they uploaded the HD version of Reznor's remix for "I'm Afraid of Americans" of Bowie. That too would be cool.
Tool - Pneuma (Live) | Drum cam the whole time, one of the best drummers in the world Tool - Lateralus | Do a bit of research before this one, like 46 & 2 Tool - The Pot | Bars Edit: You might also really like the show Legion. It deals with a of things that are so real they stray into "scary" The live performance of this is best visual, I think. This one seems to be an abstract representation of a demon/internal struggle. There's probably very deliberate imagery if you break it down, I just haven't.
Stevie! I appreciate your passion to understanding all genres of music and actually taking the time to read lyrics and understand a message that may not entirely come over naturally. Keep it up brother.
Live version of this song is even more haunting than the video. Also 'Ghost Stories' was a pretty good movie, i saw it live at the theatre so i might be a little attached to how amazing it was. The video is representing pandora's box and people not being able to face themselves, as far as i interpreted it anyway.
Is anything from tool is fantastic but what's cool to watch is it is on drum Cam the drummer Danny Carey which is probably the best percussionist alive on the song "Pnuema"
Another music video worth checking out is "PAIN - Just Hate Me". I believe its made by some of the same people that did a lot of Tools stop motion music videos.
Love your Tool reactions!!! Ahhh to be a new Tool listener ❤ since you like bars and the lyrical message, Lateralus should be next on the list. Enjoy the ride Stevie!!!!!
the visuals are showing the little clay man is the addiction... he is waking up inside the addict and walking through the halls of the persons body. at the end breaking into the veins of the addict. At lest that's how i took it.
Yess!!! Thankyou! This is my all-time favourite tool song... The instrumentals are epic in this song along with the lead singers cadence ❤️❤️❤️🙌🤙🤟😝🥰🥰👍 You've made my day ☺️🙃
You nailed it most people don’t get it the first time listening but yes it’s addiction talking to the person. This is my number one most favorite song so bad ass ! The connection in the video is the box in the very beginning is where he held his drugs and he was sober in the beginning, but he got out his box and opened it up and the rest of the video is just tripping. All of Tool songs have deeper meanings and there are multiple meanings to the song but for the most part we’ll start there. And as far as scary movies go . Check out the exorcism of Emily Rose . Or event horizon
Stevie..:) This song deserves you to watch the Live version, even if you dont do a reaction to it, just watch the live. Its visceral. its about addiction, and what your mind tells you, and the singer Maynard , acts that out for you in the live, plus his incredible vocal talent, no studio bandaids ...You will see what this Tool hype truely stems from
The official vids are Adams creations. Some advice....stay away from the official vids for your first listen. If you are lucky enough to find a fan made lyric vid....watch that...most were taken down when Fear Inoculum was released.
The box is whatever he’s addicted to, he keeps trying to get away, but he starts shaking (withdraws) and is in pain. Every time he has to go find that hidden box, possibly because he’s ashamed of it?

@JA that's my interpretation also, but only after watching the video probably 25 times through my years.
Exactly! Great job explaining!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💜 -x-
I envy anyone who gets to listen to Tool for the first time
And record the reaction! I only wish I could go back to that time and record it.
@@TiaBoNStuff absolutely
I would love to be able to listen to Tool for the first time again
The first time I've listened on paper🌌 was almost like the first. Can't Even explain it. Such a experience 😅😂
I feel you❤❤❤❤
The live version of this is one of the best performances I've ever heard.
100% agree.
Literally one of the best performances ever.
Agree!
I'm glad he listened to the original first.
THEN anything else… HE CAN DECIDE which is better… or that there is any difference at all!
You know… just like we were able to?
The Conjuring franchise! 👍🏿,
This song takes me back, when I was younger I worked as a bouncer and doorman at this club called The Lizard Lounge in Dallas. When this song came on, the dance 🕺🏿 floor would go insane! The box is always black inside because that’s what you inevitably get with an addiction. No matter how many times you try to slake the “thirst” the box, that is you, is still empty
Adam Jones, their guitarist makes the videos. He has actually worked on a lot of movies like terminator 2 and jurassic park to name a few.
I think for the most part of the video the little guy opening and closing the box represents the addiction of whatever substance, and the visual of him looking like he has the shakes probably from trying to stay sober but just cant help himself.
The Second verse isn't the alcohol talking. It's the realization of the person under the addiction, of what they are to others. The people they love.
It's both.
Right in Two, Vicarious, Jambi
Been a Tool fan since I heard Opiate back in the early 90's, there is one song that has bars BEYOND bars, & that is Right in Two that essentially tells you the evolution & demise of humans upon this earth.
Possibly one of the best Tool songs and absolutely in my top 5
Schism was my intro in the mid 90's, but Right in Two has been my favorite since the day I heard it.
Opiate was the shit!!!
"bring that Bob Marley lookin muthafucker out here"
The grudge or third eye shit parabol and parabola
Sinister was one of my go to horrors.
The guitar player Adam Jones is largely responsible for the production of their videos.
He also worked on the visual effects of the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
The video is Claymation
Correct it is claymation done by Adam Jones who worked at Industrial Light and Magic before Tool broke big.
And Terminator 2
And Edward Scissorhands
Oh I didn't see this. I just said the same thing.
Tool is a band that don't spoon feed the listeners. They make music that makes one think. Many of their songs don't have a narrative set in stone, but can have different meanings/interpretations.
very well said
You gotta do Tool - Ænema. H. Stinkfist. Pushit.Opiate. Def songs worth checking out. Have some lyrics pulled up also. The more you listen the more you will get it, def a band that grow on people.
Stinkfist is a banger.... Probably my favorite Tool song
Definitely Pushit but the salival version.
It’s mind blowing!
Fucking love that album. Front to back. Classic.
I still think Tools most meaningfull song is Right in Two. a very powerful message that hits the bar Stevie Knight is looking for that he mentioned at the end of this video
Lyrics aside, the most prominent part of "Sober" is the constant bass riff. It simply drags you into the song.
If you like this you'll really like A Perfect Circle - Passive. Great Vid as ever.
The pot is their best song in my opinion, he killed it lyrically
Vicarious. Or JUDITH from Perfect Circle. Lead singer of Tool
The box is his addiction. He floats when he's around it (high, drunk) but when he's aways from it he's weak and shaking (withdrawals) he wants to leave and connect with the outside world but can't bc of his addiction
Calling it now, the views alone will have you going down the tool rabbit hole.
Tool army do your thing! lol
Sargent Sandwich 🥪 reporting for duty!
Let's take him through the whole ride!
Your way behind cuz, the singer of Tool is also the singer of Puscifer and A perfect circle. Have a nice trip down the worm hole. Maynard is incredibly brilliant. He's the Em of Rock music.
🤘😎👍
Tool is my favorite Rock band, Pantera is my favorite Metal band.
Vicarious is a song full of bars
A perfect circle, The outsider
Same lead singer.
It's off the 13th step album. From start to finish I walks you through addition
When he says bullet. It's about a bag of dope. Your pounding on the fault line. Needle in arm
I was meaning the album start to finish walks you through addition. Not just this song. The Outsider is just one chapter 👍
I second this request. ❤️
@@saracunnington8476 perfect album. A I'm going through alcohol right now. I need this whole album on loop.
Tool is a door. Once opened, things change. Eulogy, Pneuma, Stinkfist, The Pot, Ænema, Schism, Forty Six & 2, please.
Don't forget Jambi. It's probably my 5th favorite tool song
This was my little brothers fav songs to do karaoke to. He passed away 4 years ago. Usually hearing this makes me cry but this time I smiled a little bit. Love this song.
If you dare to go harder and darker check out Cradle of Filth. My favorite is Bathory Aria.
Yes...TOOL!...."Rosetta Stoned" next please!!!
Tool is the best it’s hard to not like them
The live version of this song is so powerful, you should check that out at some point (even if you don’t do a reaction). There’s so much passion behind the song from every member of Tool in that particular music video.
A perfect circle- same singer different band. check it gets deep aswell
H. is one of my favorites by Tool. The history/background of the song really makes it different in my mind.
Enema is one of there greatest songs!!
Finally back to Tool. Best band!!!!
Judging by your 46 & 2 reaction, I think Lateralus is a song you would definitely appreciate
Tool Tuesday’s….tool is amazing group and especially with their newer songs they are all open to interpretation and would to see your thoughts on it
My son was a huge tool fan. Now that I have listened to their music I see why. A phenomenal band. Omg.
Soooo many songs for u to check out! Vicarious, stinkfist, push it, laterals, Jambi, right in two! And many more!!!
Scar movie suggestions: The Shining. Nosferatu (1922), The Haunting (1963), Carnival of Souls.
Yo Stevie...you want a tool song with bars and a sick Instrumental???? LATERALUS!!!! Also any member of the Tool Army will tell you keep away from the music videos cuz the visuals can be distracting...lookin forward to c ur face on that one Big Dawg!!!!
Lyrics videos are where it's at with tool. Please.

I say you fake tool fans if you don't like it all
Excellent Steve I'm glad you enjoyed it!
There is sooo many songs to take you down the path you want!
Try SCHISM OR STINKFIST, ENIMA OR A REAL JOURNEY.... PNEUMA
THE POT!!!!!!!!!
Maynard once jokingly said Adam won't even let you in the room when he's working on the videos. They're all him.
The Pot by Tool won a grammy, hint hint.
@blackhaze better be happy😆😆
Five finger death punch and linkin park are really good as well
Pantera domination live in Moscow.. lyrics, music, performance, and audience🔥!!
Rob Zombies "House of a thousand corpses", and "Devils Rejects" are a couple of my favorite halloween movies
One of my top songs of ALL TIME‼️💯
Stevie watching TooL = stop what you are doing and watch.
Worth noting, you listened to a clean version of the song (edited)
If you like how they do horror videos you should watch the fan made video to 46&2
Tool is one of my all time favorites, I had the pleasure of watching them live and they did not disappoint especially when they had a light show with it. 🙌🙌
Should check out Maynard's other two groups a perfect circle and puscifer
NIN is a band to look into, maybe even Ministry and Living Color? Also vids were done by one of the band members Adam Jones!

I would love him to do a Hurt Battle with Trent and Johnny Cash.😍
Way dope ! Check out 3 Libras
Tool - Pneuma (Live) | Drum cam the whole time, one of the best drummers in the world
Tool - Lateralus | Do a bit of research before this one, like 46 & 2
Tool - The Pot | Bars
Edit: You might also really like the show Legion. It deals with a of things that are so real they stray into "scary"

Lateralus bro! Most spiritually inspirational song of theirs played in line with the Fibonacci sequence. Look it up. It’s a masterpiece!
Stevie! I appreciate your passion to understanding all genres of music and actually taking the time to read lyrics and understand a message that may not entirely come over naturally. Keep it up brother.
Opiate- BARS

Lateralus is a must.... so your research first.
As an amateur drummer, I fucking love Tool. Their abrupt and unique time signature changes are both complex and beautiful.
it's so ironic for me, because this is my 1st tiol song that got me hooked back in 1994 and just last week my gf of 21yrs just passed from alcohol😥😥😥.
Aw man, I'm so sorry to hear that Penny. Anyone reading this, send some love out to Penny.🙏
Its so nice to here someone actually dive into the lyrics of Tool. Shits not easy

Stevie, You need to review Pneuma, Invincible & Tempest by TOOL.
Notification gang! Never clicked so fast.....
Side note: the drummer created all the stop motion for the video. Hell of an artist.
Gotdammit, can we stop dipping his toes in now? He's ready. Lateralus is waiting for you.
Please keep reacting to TOOL!!

“The Strangers”. Took my wife and I like 3 nights to watch. Should check it out Stevie. The 1st one, not the second one.
Adam the guitar player creates all of tools music video's. He has also worked on the dinosaurs on the original movie Jarrasic Park.

Its claymation, the clay is moved inches at a time and pictures are taken every time there moved, kinda like a flip book
Anyone else wants to introduce Stevie to Rammstein? Could start with Du Hast live Paris
Great suggestion!
They are the best rock band in the world.
Awesome vid! Hope you continue with Tool. You definitely have to check out Lateralus from them. Anything from Tool would be lit! ✌🏼
