It was until he wrote ‘Wings pt 1&2’ … he’s said he’ll never get that personal or introspective at that level again… love his lyrics and approach he takes to writing, it’s like an onion, layers upon layers upon layers
I wonder why he called it Sxx Prison...was it literally intercourse that he's (tool leader) been through, or sxxUAL abuse, but No penetration?? I ask because of the title.
Stevie, you went into the deep end, bro! This song is SUPPOSED to make you uncomfortable. It's a hard subject to approach from any angle. I thought you did a great job, man. As far as a meaning, I believe it's about the cycle of abuse. If someone is molested at a young age, their life will be hard for sure. I believe the song comes from the perspective of someone who has endured abuse as a child and now is in prison and "doing unto others what has been done to me". It's the cycle of abuse. He only finds Peace of mind in abusing others the way he was abused. But relief only lasts for a moment. I believe the "holy medium" is sex in this case. He has attached his pain and past suffering to what is normally a sacred act, and can only find a release from it by that act alone. This is a dark song, for sure. Props for tackling it head on. Please don't be scared off from doing more TooL, man. They're not all this dark, I promise! 🤘🌀🤘
U got it partially right but it's actually a metaphor for society the "do onto others what has been done to u" and he's using sex as a metaphor for whatever bad habbit we are passing onto others or in a more specific case our offspring(I was so younge vestle then, u know it hurt me) as children tend to follow in their parents footsteps which means they also tend to pick up their bad habits.
@@bbqpickle4033 I know Maynard loves his metaphors, and he uses them brilliantly, but in this song I believe he's referring to abuse, and specifically sexual abuse. I know you can look at it as any sort of abuse, but the fact that the song is called Prison Sex, and he is very graphic(man, oh man...) With sexual imagery in regards to the abuse itself, that's what makes me feel it's aimed in that direction. Maynard's gone on record as saying he was abused sexually as a child(not by his dad, but someone unnamed) and he wrote this song as a way to deal with it. He had a lot of anger in tool's early work, and now he most certainly is in a better place emotionally. I guess what I'm saying is no one who interprets Maynard's songs will ever be 100% correct. Only Maynard himself knows. And I'm enjoying the ride he takes us on...🤘🌀🤘
"Do unto to YOU now, what has been done to ME" , understanding the abuser is an explanation, not an excuse. awareness and acknowledgment go a long way. Look how much as changed in the just the last 1.5 years culturally.... the bi-product of awareness and acknowledgment. Be Real, Talk Yo Shit.... needs to be happening on all issues in our society.
Mad respect to tackling this emotionally difficult song. This is one of Tool’s darker songs, because of what it’s literally about. Compared to something like Stinkfist (which uses some sexual imagery as metaphor for something non-sexual), at least. If you’re gonna check out more Tool, might I recommend The Pot, Vicarious, Jambi, or Right in Two?
By far their most controversial song. Talks about the circle of sexual abuse. "Do unto others what has been done to you". Tool isn't afraid to tackle taboo subjects.
I work with sexual abuse victims and the most profound statement I've ever heard in my 13 years in this field is "The perpetrator is often the victim first." I work with children, boys 11-17 years old, and the story is typically most kids subconsciously have a feeling the abuse is wrong but is as normal as a family sitting down at dinner or watching a TV show together. To them it's a normal way to express love and typically when they found out and understand that this is not what normal families do the trauma and guilt begins. Most abused at a young age do this to others as they think it's normal hence the "do unto me now what has been done to you" verse in Prison Sex. Sad cycle and fucked up life to have to live and hopefully break away from.
Fuck bro what you said hit really hard for me. The "is as normal for a family and sitting down for dinner or watching a show together" is crazy because as a kid when I was enduring the abuse I went through I thought it was normal. The manipulation I suffered is so close to what you said. Other therapists have never understood that. Idk if you are a therapist/psychiatrist but you are bang on in my certain case. I was manipulated into thinking all family members do this. "It's just practise for when you get older" I appreciate your comment
Wonderfully said. 😢🥹👏🏽💪🏽 These topics are Controversial and Very Displeasing to the Human Psyche. But All Demons like such Will Pay, in 1 way or Another. The Righteous will Never Go Unpunished.
@@MichaelJohnston0130 good pick dude. He seems to be into the “deeper meaning” stuff since he enjoyed 46&2. Maybe Lateralus, Parabola, reflection, I mean we could go on and on between the 2 of us I am sure. 😆
TOOL is so completely original. From musicality to storytelling... No band ever is anything like them. I love your genuine reaction because it says a lot about you in many different ways. This is probably the best reaction video I've ever seen. You nailed it, bro!
Stevie is the BEST reactor on YT, this video being a prime example. He breaks shit down and gets to the meat of things. Tool and Stevie are a match made in Heaven for this very reason.
Keep doing tool reactions. You’ll see how much they evolve in their themes from pure rage, to tranquility. Their albums and discography does a great job at capturing the essence of becoming the best version of oneself and shedding the dark parts of oneself to find better.
best comment. once you're familiar with the sequence and succession of their entire discography, it feels like it helps you understand them and their experiences on another level. It's a wonderful feeling.
Your reaction would shed light to all individuals who ask us tool fans “why”. “Because it makes you FEEL…good, or bad. Don’t be numb people , think, feel, and live. You rule SK 🌀
Watching you push through this song, as real and uncomfortable as it is, while reacting in true form to how you feel about it came full circle when I read the words on your shirt. Real music, real thoughts, real reaction to real shit. Be Real.
The song has a lot to do with the cyclical patterns that can occur, where the abused becomes the abuser. The song feels angry and is supposed to make you feel angry and revolt against this type of shit. Disconfort is part of life and sometimes needs to be explored, otherwise shit just gets ignored. Anyway, this is from Tools first album, which deals with a lot of dark stuff. As their albuns progress they go into different paths. You'll enjoy it all in the end, because it will be a rollercoaster of all kinds emotions and insight into yourself and society. Also, a side note, this and all other Tool videos were made by Adam Jones, the bands guitar player. He used to work in Hollywood film industry as a Special Effects artist.
As someone who's favorite band is TooL, I have to extend my appreciation to you. While I know this isn't necessarily your lane or cup of tea, you take these reactions on the chin and give them a serious listen and attempt to understand. While I'll never expect you to bump TooL in the car....you at least don't just give lip service to your listens from other genre. Nothing but respect, homie.
There is an extended version and he says, I thought I could make it end. I thought I could wash the stains away. I thought I could break the circle if I stepped right I to your skin. So sweet was your surrender, we have become one! I have become my terror and you my precious lamb and martyr!
I use to cry so much to this song because I was sexually assaulted from the ages of 6 to 8 years old. While I've somewhat overcome, I can always relate to the sensory experiences of that time. E.g., if I smell Vienna sausages, I nearly pass out. Yes, it's uncomfortable and awful. But Tool had a way to transform each album into something else.
I just realized how the attacker was an alien to the doll. These people have lost their humanity and have shaped into something unrecognizable. But, in my case, my predator was a neighbor who's daughter I became friends with. In that case, they're not so distant from a serial killer.
@@michaeljoseph577It’s been a while since you’ve made this comment. But I pray that you’re doing well. It’s monsters like that that make me hope there is a hell
Your reaction restored a sliver of my hope in humanity. People do talk about shit like this and we do everything we can to avoid feeling it. You jumping in and being willing to feel that was brave and speaks to your strength of character.
I’ve watched a dozen reactions to this song and not one other has faced this tough song head on like you did. This is one of my favorite Tool songs because it makes me so uncomfortable. Music can take you to places you want to go but sometimes where we don’t want to go. Thank you for taking this song as seriously as you did.
All i can say (I RARELY comment on yt) is that I very much appreciate you comments. I have loved Tool since the 90s. I looove them. Recently i astually payed attention to the actual lyrics to this song. It destroyed me. For the last several months I haven’t been able to listen to Tool because I wasnt sure what this song is really about. You explained it word for word. While it makes my heart fill with sadness. I now know the intensions behind it. Makes me love them even more. Its a graph depiction of childhood reality for some kids. I believe they are heros for being brave enough to put out music like this. Sick beat with an EXTREMELY important topic. Makes me uncomfortable and sad but its worth it to get the message across. Thank you for your honest reaction. Helped me a ton! Thx
Props for running the song brah. Your in the Tool army Knight. Their catalog scope is life from the darkest of the dark to the brightest light. Tool army is not being blind, being real to real life and this song is ugly and they make you FEEL it same as the enlightened songs. The deepest band ever
Maynard has a way of pulling you into the lyrics , sometimes uncomfortably . But he always makes you think !!!!! He always has a message if you you can hear it . Again , welcome to TOOL
I grew up on Tool. Love how you listened to the lyrics. He rebells and kills his father in the end. (after the “ive found some kind of temporary sanity” bar to the end of the song)
i mean, no offense but thats just your interpretation. Nowhere does it say that. IMO, he finds temporary sanity in committing the same acts that were done to him, to someone else. He perpetuates the abuse to find some sort of relief from what he has experienced and what is affecting him. The song is about the cycle of abuse, not revenge on his abuser. That said, thats just MY opinion. Maynard doesnt tell us, and wants us to come to our own conclusions.
A good storyteller provokes an emotional response & refuses to avoid the dark side of humanity. A necessary evil to some, therapeutic for others but reality to us all. Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not!!!!
This is the darkest song on their darkest album. This whole era for Tool was a display of some of the worst characteristics in humanity. Even in their live performances, Maynard portrays himself as more of a twisted creature than a man. Watch any live performance from 92-93, it's uncomfortable, intense, and incredibly impressive all at once.
This song is about a guy that was raped as a young man and now has actually become the rapist as an adult. That's why says "do unto others what has been done to you" and that's why he started off in the first person, then switched to 2nd person. The guy was raped young and now he needs others to share the experience with. Hence "I need you to feel this." That's generally the case in these situations. The predator was once the victim.
I assume at some point you're gonna jump into Meshuggah, it seems to be soonish after Tool on the reactors checklist. Remember to do lyrics for Meshuggah as well though, very important.
Buddy, you went straight down to the deep shit with Tool... Yet i'm really happy to see you evolving with this and I say to you , WELCOME empathetic man !! (I feel happy for you)
Tool's music is completely interpreted how you perceive it. For me, this song is about generational abuse. It hits home for me and too many others who have endured the same trauma. This song really helped me grieve what happened and work through the emotions that surface later in adulthood. This song is so important to my healing and to be the individual who ends the cycle of generational abuse. Peace and love my friend.
So much of Tool's catalogue are heavy topics like this and extremely serious - sometimes really dark - imagery. It's part of what makes Tool as deep as they are, they explore this stuff in a way that few artists can, and I'm glad you're diving in with an open mind. I'ma stay with you through this journey, because I can't wait for you to get to some of their better music too.
Steve bro just how genuine you are and how you articulate your feelings in live time with your reactions, man you aint gotta worry about offending nobody bro its real and its you and thats so rare on yt or any platform for that matter. You a real one brother 💯
Another classic, Korn-daddy . Shit was sad when I let the cd just run and I heard what comes at the end. I bawled. I love Korn like I do tool. Anyways listen well past the end and look for extended version.
Such a rough song to make it through knowing the context. Even Korn refused to play it live for the longest time. But a masterpiece of an emotional rollercoaster.
@@bigmud3293 would be awesome but since I'm not patreon I highly doubt it. Sucks too I've supported the channel since the early days. I'll continue to support though
The thing I love most about this channel is I feel like you're talking TO me, as if we're in the same room having this experience together. I really appreciate that man. You've been my favorite reaction channel for a LONG time now because of that. You also have a really open mind with a willingness to dive down rabbit holes of new shit. The other thing I love is that you're someone who is a true rap fan, so, you're up on what's going on currently in the rap world. I'm not so much up on modern rap, but I'm a massive MM fan, and he makes references I don't get sometimes. I know now, I can just come to your channel and look for the song, and, if I missed the shots fired, you catch them and break them down. I really appreciate that perspective. Much love from Ohio, bro. Thanks for the fun
So, the whole song is about bringing full circle the violence that is inflicted on children and how no one stops it. 2. It's also metaphor for the way the economic and social world will sodomize you andd leave you for dead. 3. Tool videos hardly ever go with Tool lyrics. This is one of those. The video is art in itself and seperate from the lyrics.
I don't think the video is too separate from the theme of the lyrics. It's a trapped and tortured doll, that eventually traps a weaker life form given the chance.
@@lot3kness the video is a complete representation of its lyrics. I think tool will say their videos have nothing to do with the song to make the people who dont get it, stop trying to get it but those that do, have no problem
@@garyalexanderjr yeah. Their creative process is certainly a unique one, and it can lead to seemingly disjointed things, but they always seemed grounded in something from the total piece in my experience following them. One thing informs the other and so on until the work is complete. Although if you've been to their shows you also see how they continue to evolve their own music and often give new meaning to the work. Truly a unique group, even in so much that they get out of the way of their own work to let it speak and rarely impose an expected meaning.
I was referencing a 97ish interview in which they discussed their creative process. Music alone is given to MJK to compose lyrics based on feeling the track and the same composition is given to Adam for creative process for video concepts. Essentially saying the lyrics May not match the video. I meant for Stevie personally to not try and match the lyrics with video. But going back and checking the Tool catalog, some moments in some videos match up, but to say a Tool video is a visual representation of the lyrics is a bit of a reach on most of the catalog. IMO
It’s about the cycles of abuse. How in many many cases the abuser was themselves abused as a child. Hence “do unto others what has been done to me, do under others what has been done to you.” Also in the video, how it shows the victim in a room filled with drawers and the very end it shows that the victim was in its own drawer in the abusers own room full of drawers.
It's both...he's trying to understand why as the victim and why as the perpetrator it happens. He's digging in the psychology of what makes us abuse/hurt each other. And then makes those that were hurt repeat the vicious cycle. Maynard shines a light on uncomfortable topics but it's necessary for healing.
I think this is my favourite Tool video… it’s darkly beautiful and makes a lot of poetic sense I think… when he paints himself with the paintbrush, I mean… I get chills
Appreciate you doing such a tough and uncomfortable song. This song brings to light the circle of abuse and how some statistics show that abusers tend to have been abused themselves. The idea of doing onto others as one has been done creates victims that could potentially turn to abuse others themselves. It’s takes a lot of strength to not only openly talk about this sort of abuse but even more to find help and support and stop the cycle from happening again and again.
This song is actually about what the singer went through as a child when his pastor father would sexually abuse him the white legless figure represents him and the tall black figure represents his father and the reason why the little white figure has no legs is a reference to how the singer felt trapped and helpless so in a sense it's about child sexual abuse
This is one of those rare times where Tool's music video actually matches the song. This is their second song from their first LP, so it was probably the second Tool song for many people to listen to.
It’s a disturbing song for sure. Musically I love the aggressive feel to it. The lyrics fck me up a bit, even while I appreciate them. Bc my dad is a p€do, I’m repulsed and triggered by the subject, but I’m also curious to how ppl become monsters who prey on others. I’ve watched documentaries and read articles on the subject, but can’t watch/read them in one sitting bc it is so incredibly triggering. But at least for me and a lot of the ppl I know who were absed, there’s like a darkness and rage that lives in you. So hearing music that is able to represent that is, idk, cathartic maybe. But I also like the song points out how abuse can become cyclical. Me and my ex both had SA happen to us, and while my damage led to self destructive impulses, my ex became outwardly destructive. He could be scary. When a kid gets hurt it’s not just this bad thing they move past, it has lifelong repercussions.
It never goes away. I'm 49, my childhood experience is still at the forefront of my mind. You can put it away, and aside, try to get rid of it but.... I've been stepdad for 21years now, two girls and a boy. Adults now. Never told them. Wasn't relevant. They know other parts of my childhood was crap so, I just left that one out.
Thanks for sticking with it even though it made you uncomfortable. The song to me is about the circle of abuse, the narrative is from the victim who later becomes the abuser. I narrowly escaped being abused as a kid and I saw it manifest as a teenager. Thankfully I was smart enough to recognize it and stop the cycle, but I understand how it happens
The medium is the deed itself, the person was the victim and then became the predator and when he came full circle he only finds temporary sanity in doing to others what was done to him.
It's awful, but I appreciate you sharing the evil of it. We all seem to know someone that has been raped, either as a child or as an adult. We also know people that rape. We just don't know that they do it. My wife has nightmares every night, after 30 years. This is a serious issue. Thanks to Tool and to you for getting it out there.
This is definitely one of their most uncomfortable songs, and its interesting that you'd dive into this of all their songs. If you want something a bit light in tone and topic, maybe check out some stuff from Lateralus
Also, NEVER take Tool meaning at face value. The singer purposefully writes in obvious, relatable form to help express his deeper, more thought-provoking points.
Aenima is the moat controversial song. It is about hoping the world ends and being frustrated that you are alone in this feeling no soul counterpart to share the misery.
@@joeyattaway756 wow you have a much smarter interpretation of that absolutely great song than I! I just thought it was about his hatred for LA and Cali basically. But that album is a masterpiece all the way through in my opinion
LA is also the manifestation of greed. The people the writer hates and frustration. But it is more about how lonely life is when you see and others do not and the anger that one feels when alienation is constant.
D@mn they trolled you hard with this they just wanted to see you squirming. So many better songs dont let this song discourage you from the rest of the tool catalogue.
This isn't from his own experience, but Maynard always writes in metaphors. He's using prison sex, and "do unto others what has been done to you" as a metaphor. He's making it graphic with the details giving examples with the rape description as a way humans fuck each other over and then retaliate throughout history... An eye for an eye etc. If you look again, he flipped the line to "do unto you now what has been done to me" and in the end "I've come round full circle" because he's now the one doing the raping. So it's also a song on nature/ nurture and how negative experiences and trauma can create the continuous cycle
His mother, Judith, was severely abused as a child. He hasn't admitted to experiencing anything like this himself, but was still affected by it due to issues his mother had from being abused herself. Almost everything he writes comes from his life either directly or indirectly.
You'll spend a life time debugging Tool's code. 46&2 was a great start.. the rage flows from Opiate to undertow to Aenima. Lateralus, 10,000 days, and Fear Innocuoulum will peel your muffin cap back, blue.
First saw this video on a friend’s vhs copy of Headbangers Ball back in 94 or 95. I had no idea at the time that it would change my taste in music forever.
Just finished this video. Yeah, this song’s rough because you’re not meant to be comfortable with it. I’d try either “the pot” or “lateralus” next. Either video, you’re going to want the lyrics. But if you do lateralus, I’d definitely recommend pulling up a video that simultaneously explains the lyrics.
I find those "explanation" videos overload reactors who are already juggling listening the music and lyrics for the first time and watching the video AND talking to us, which most of us don't have to worry about doing. I'd rather hear SK's take on it than watch him read someone elses. I mean Tool even mixes their vocals down so it isn't the focus of the song, seems weird to encourage reactors to focus on it.
This is a rough second reaction to Tool. Tool will make you uncomfortable sometimes (just like the real world),It will also make you think. Keep up the great work, there's a lot of amazing Tool songs out there. Keep em coming
This song is about the acknowledgment that a circle of abuse does exist. The abused becomes the abuser. To break the circle you must first acknowledge it. Maynard is one of the few lyricists to put such an uncomfortable topic down on paper.
I was molested and raped by my foster dad from age 9 til I was age 13 when my mom caught him after saying she didn’t believe me when I told her when I was 10. I don’t really wanna recount or talk about it although it stopped 11 years ago. What I can say is in that situation my body would go completely limp and numb my hearing would go silent and ring similar to if you put music to loud in ur ear with ear buds and my eyes would either squeeze shut so I couldn’t see or my vision would go blurry. Why I don’t really know but everything I can find is that it’s a survival mechanism that happens during extreme fear or pain during the fight or flight reaction. After all this happened and it was found out many guys made fun of me at school and almost every female at the school avoided me like I was diseased even some friends stopped talking to me. For me my escape was eating, ultimately that made me obese over the years. I haven’t even talked to my current fiancé about it beyond saying I had been molested and raped as I child because I’m still afraid she’ll react like the people from my school did if she found out by whom. Also when he said “I need this medium to make me whole.” That was probably from the view point of…the trash bad. Alternatively it’s common that rape/molestation survivors become people who rape/molest people themselves as a way to take back something they “lost”. Normally that’s one ir more if a number of things. Ones the feeling of belonging amoung others so doing that makes others like them therefore they’re normal. Another is feeling powerless so doing that to someone else makes them feel powerful. Another is having mental illnesses that were never corrected so they believe what happened is normal or okay. Along with various other things. I learned all this while in therapy because of certain thoughts or urges became noticeable by me so I went in hoping to have that solved. By age of 17 I had been in therapy for 3 years before I was able to move forward and I met my fiancé 2 years into my therapy. I never talked to her about any of it because it’s embarrassing and I’m ashamed of what happened and how I handled it after it was over. She without knowing it saved me and ultimately was my source of light through it. Now we have a kid on the way so seeing this song now is kind of a cruel fate…maybe it’s a sign meant to remind me of what happened and how I felt so I can make sure my kid never experiences this type of thing.
To me, Tool's discography sort of follows the life of a man. Their early stuff like this is more angry and raw and it evolves through to spirituality and philosophy and then into wisdom and grace. Don't forget to zone out a bit here and there and appreciate the musicianship which is second to none.
Well said I agree tool music has always been about a journey of enlightenment you can see their maturity album after album in both the lyrical content but also the complexity of the music compared to the early albums raw anger
Most of what he writes comes from his own life. His music is telling his story. Sober was written about one of the band members and his struggle with substance abuse. I love Tool so much because the music is real. Because the music is his life story, his experiences, he will never stop writing until there's nothing left to tell. It takes awhile for them to put out an album because he has to process all his emotional shit and figure out which part of his story to tell next and how to tell it. The albums are his autobiography.
It's about religion and the cycle of abuse we put out kids through making them believe the same garbage we grew up with. Hands bound, head down, eyes closed, you look so precious now. Kinda like praying in church.
The song is pushes forward the message of the cycle of abuse not just the victim but who he's taught to victimize as well throughout the song he's constantly told to do unto others what has been done to him
Very fitting you are wearing your Be Real shirt, this song is as real as it gets!! Great job handling a tough song to go through and think about. Love your channel!
Much appreciation for your open-mindedness and ability to translate what you were hearing in this song. TOOL has such an amazing ability to evoke emotion in people and you were the ideal listener in this case. Props.
This song is deep as usual. The cycle of abuse and molestation within a family will undoubtedly create the same behavior for the next generation. He came full circle. Chilling.
Maynard likes to tell stories from all points of view depending on the subject matter. In his book he briefly talks about it. This was something his mother went through as a child. It was done to her by a close family member. So I believe this song is about that abuse she had done to her.
One of the songs that brought me to Tool, as spending most of my childhood though similar situation it really makes you see life in a different light. Great video and reaction, the uncomfortable feeling you get is righteous. Its what should be felt, feel good that you dont feel that in every relationship or close interaction with another.
The noise you make at 15:48 kinda says it all. It sucker punches the wind out of you with the perspectives. Strange, but this is one of my favorite songs of all time for the sheer sound of it, but I only read the lyrics once, first week after I bought the cd. That was a couple months after it came out. Today was my second experience of them and I'm glad there's 10,000 of us in on it so far, because that's a lot of rhetorical and experiential weight to shoulder.
Tool will make you uncomfortable sometimes. Makes you think, makes you feel. The Tool rabbit hole is a very interesting one.

Discomfort is what makes us strong. Hug the cactus. Think bad thoughts, confront your worst fears. You'll be freed from it all.

Weird second track to jump into haha Tool's the shit man keep them coming
Seriously! This wouldn't have been in the top 20 imo
Agreed bruh. What a shame, i hope he moves on to something else man. Anema and beyond would be a safe bet.
@@peal1179 no doubt man... Actually I'd say "Right in two" would be my 1st reco. Content wise and sound wise.
@@MichaelJohnston0130 good pick dude. He seems to be into the “deeper meaning” stuff since he enjoyed 46&2. Maybe Lateralus, Parabola, reflection, I mean we could go on and on between the 2 of us I am sure. 😆
Facts. One of my favorites. But what a 2nd pick. Love it !!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I think you’d love Vicarious by tool!
That whole 10,000 days album 🔥
It's a must.
100% Stevie would be on that song for an hour breaking down every lyric.
Eulogy too
Yes
You need to do “Right in two”. Literally the perfect description of humanity.
This is an amazing song.
Yes
I'll back those statements
You're always on point
Think Stevie would appreciate the lyrics in that song.
didn't expect this as a second song to Tool :D pneuma is off their newest album and its fire!
Comment is on point except it's not first album, tools firstvrecord dropped was opiate. Circa....late 80s lol
@@Bryan23201 Opiate is an EP, so Undertow is actually the first album. But yeah, I get your point since it's relevant to mention Opiate as well.
For real Stevie always gives Really accurate guesses.
There is an extended version and he says, I thought I could make it end. I thought I could wash the stains away. I thought I could break the circle if I stepped right I to your skin. So sweet was your surrender, we have become one! I have become my terror and you my precious lamb and martyr!
An amazing version of this song for sure! A gift
Great reaction..... most people can't get past the title. RESPECT!!!
Your reaction restored a sliver of my hope in humanity. People do talk about shit like this and we do everything we can to avoid feeling it. You jumping in and being willing to feel that was brave and speaks to your strength of character.
Very solid reaction, Authentic and that's all we can ask. You were supposed to be uncomfortable and clearly, you were. Thanks Stevie.
i feel like everyone is a predictable biological robot
Thx
Tool - Sober is another banger. And another video in the same style. Tool - ænema is another great song with amazing lyrics.
Tool army here!! 🤟🏻
🤟 on my friend
Tool fan since 98 sounding off!
🤔 Hmmm🤔🤔 Now when you say "army" do you know BTS? 🙃
@Chyrnobyl66 great point/s. thanks for the reply. Peace.
A good storyteller provokes an emotional response & refuses to avoid the dark side of humanity. A necessary evil to some, therapeutic for others but reality to us all. Whether we choose to acknowledge it or not!!!!
Your reaction is the exact reaction that everyone who has ever listened to Tool has. They make you feel, hurt and think.
About the cycle of abuse. The abused becoming the abuser. "I come round full circle".
Just found your channel yesterday due to Eminem, needless to say I'm hype af to see you reacting to my favorite band the very next day lol
🐐 rapper and 🐐 band!!!
Hence "I need you to feel this."
That's generally the case in these situations.
We waiting on THE POT BY Tool
The circle and some of the lyrics represent how many victims become abusers themselves
@@flingonber I agree it is harmful as hell that info messed with my head for years after what happened to me
I'm proud of you for finding a way to deal with this information.
Kind of a deep track to react to so early in your Tool experience
So much of Tool's catalogue are heavy topics like this and extremely serious - sometimes really dark - imagery. It's part of what makes Tool as deep as they are, they explore this stuff in a way that few artists can, and I'm glad you're diving in with an open mind. I'ma stay with you through this journey, because I can't wait for you to get to some of their better music too.
Completely agree.
Maynard writes these lyrics so he can work through his pain and hopefully heal himself
His mother was abused as a child and her issues from it carried over into adulthood.
He needs to react to it

It's why I wonder if he should go with audio only for future Tool tracks
IMO
The puppets are probably representing the puppets that therapists use to have kids act out what happened to them when they can’t vocalize it.
Tool is a deep dive for real for real
It’s about the cycles of abuse. How in many many cases the abuser was themselves abused as a child. Hence “do unto others what has been done to me, do under others what has been done to you.”
Also in the video, how it shows the victim in a room filled with drawers and the very end it shows that the victim was in its own drawer in the abusers own room full of drawers.
The Song is written from the perspective of the victim becoming the rapist in prison. "Do unto others, what has been done to you"
This is one of those rare times where Tool's music video actually matches the song.
This is their second song from their first LP, so it was probably the second Tool song for many people to listen to.
yup, adam did a great job with this video
Sending you the greatest of vibes and the most love💜💜💜
I have no words but send good vibes as well
Good vibes
My best friends father is in San Quentin because he was like your father. I hope hes getting the real prison sex. Transmutate your pain into gold.
Great video btw nice work!
Watching your facial expressions was killing me. Welcome to Tool.
I'll never listen to this song the same after watching this.
Also, NEVER take Tool meaning at face value. The singer purposefully writes in obvious, relatable form to help express his deeper, more thought-provoking points.
Along with Stinkfist, Prison Sex are the 2 most awkwardly named songs IMO
Hooker with a penis? Another tool song lol
@@harmtouchwound2537 I was definitely ashamed of myself when I seen your comment! One of my favorite songs I don’t know how I forgot it!
Neither do I. I've listened to Tool off and on over the years but never REALLY listened and just now checking the lyrics. I've been sleeping.
I was a victim. From a family member. Unfortunately. Thank you for reacting to this.
Who made stevie go through this? 🤣
Tool is an experience. I hope you do more of their songs.
D@mn they trolled you hard with this they just wanted to see you squirming. So many better songs dont let this song discourage you from the rest of the tool catalogue.
Tool is my favorite band. Listen to lateralus bub, it's incredible.
Video for lateralus is hands down one of the best music videos.
Think you’d really appreciate right in two. The lyrics are some of my favorite.
The pot next for sure
This is the kind of intelligent and insightful lyrical analysis I LOVE. Excellent job, man.
“Want to be bummed out for 2 weeks? Watch this video.”
More Tool!!! Take the journey Stevie, spiral out
One of my favorite tool songs it's about the circle of abuse
wow the lyrics really hit this dude hard...
It's about religion and the cycle of abuse we put out kids through making them believe the same garbage we grew up with. Hands bound, head down, eyes closed, you look so precious now. Kinda like praying in church.
You had every reaction you should have had. Tool is an experience for sure. Uncomfortable at times but real. I appreciate you respecting that.
Tool is all about talking about the things that we like to hide away
The song is pushes forward the message of the cycle of abuse not just the victim but who he's taught to victimize as well throughout the song he's constantly told to do unto others what has been done to him
My guy, this is rough shit to get through. Thanks for hanging in there. This shit needs talked about. That's for trudging through it with us.
Very fitting you are wearing your Be Real shirt, this song is as real as it gets!! Great job handling a tough song to go through and think about. Love your channel!
It's about the cycle of abuse. The abused becomes the abuser.
Please TOOL Tuesday's. Get it in that zone Steve
I second this motion.
"I don't even want to say what I'm thinking about because I don't want that god damn smoke" I love that expression.
Awesome vid Stevie, now we need u to do some real Tool classics - Stinkfist, Sober, Eulogy, The Pot.
