Excellent review of the FN 509 midsize. There is a distinction between single action and double action striker fired pistols, they are not all double action. Double action pistols like Glock, FN 509, M&P and most others are DA because the striker is only particularly cocked and the trigger pull cocks it the rest of the way and releases it to fire. Most striker fired pistols are DA. SA pistols have fully cocked strikers, called single action because the trigger only releases the striker, these are more uncommon. The XD and XDM are fully cocked and it’s why they have a grip safety in addition to the trigger safety. The original canik tp9 was SA but are now DA. The distinction is important also for competition because the XD and XDM have to compete against the 1911 and not against other polymer pistols that are DA.
