Hi Tasteless, I made this. Really glad you enjoyed it. If you (or anyone else here) have questions that aren't featured in the paper but could be answered from the data, go ahead and ask and I'll query the database. I also saw someone in the chat asking to see "the actual data". It's in Sqlite3 database format but I'll gladly share it.
You are a friggin champion
Great Work! Could you add statistical errors to the numbers & plots?
Up!
Brood War is the diamond of gaming
yep, it continues to hold up great
Don't forget SSBM ;)
To get a 3 race game to be that close to 50/50/50... that is amazing balance.
But its T>Z>P>T balance, which is not the ideal
@oguzcanoguz5977 they're pretty close to balanced with the rotation. No race is bad either.
With 4+ you leave room for a bad race(s). Much harder to balance.
@@Zraknul Even with 3 or 2 you can have bad races, so I dont get the point.
Map makers make it real
Wtf everyone talking about? As an ex-WoT player I find those race winrate difference OUTRAGEOUSLY high. You guys do have a perfect statistical foundation to an REASONED WHINE, so why you let it slide? I do not understand.
Shout out to the unsung heros. The map makers!
Flash stats are ridiculous
It’s crazy that all races have a 50% win rate on 3 player maps. I guess 3 player maps are the most balanced maps, I would’ve thought it would be Zerg favored
If that is the case, it would be nice to see more of them. ASL only seems to run witb 1 of them.
As a back seat scBW gamer this info is soooo useful to then scream it at the tv when my favorite gamers are under performing lol
Super interesting! I enjoy these kinds of things, not enough of this kind of statistical content out there.
As a numbers nerd this breakdown made my day.
just a few points love about this.
Love contrasting your response vs RTs. He was both proud to be proven right, but also inside he was probably dying seeing how bad TvP is on 2v2 maps, worse factoring out flash.

Also about JD, I suspect it has to do with him working on stylistic change, from an aggressive, instinctual player towards more "honorable, good guy, macro zerg". I liken it to mobile, option QBs vs pocket passing QBs. stylistically, JD was Colin Kaepernik, when niners were literally running roughshod over league, then when he worked on transitioning to a more mature pocket passing style, it was difficult time totally changing his body mechanics and instincts to new, polar opposite style.
Light reminds me of Maru, when he's on he's on, but you never know if this is his season or he's gonna drop out in the ro24
Awesome stats! It is also very important to have you commenting this, because of your deep knowledge of the game and right interpretation of results!
The stats were great.
It would be fantastic if someone wrote a replay analysis plugin that could live update these, and then get into more granular queries, as the data looks broad enough I imagine it was hand collected (and human limitations don't allow for really minor variables to be evaluated). Probably very hard since I don't think the code is as accessible as it is in other games like the source engine.
Things like worker kill ratios, damage tallies for certain unit types, etc, could all be really invaluable in both understanding the meta, but also being able to historically categorize how things grew and changed.
I agree, that would be so cool. There would be so much to measure, and stats like that would probably even change how the pros play. But yeah, I have no idea how to create such a tool...
I think another reason cross spawn is horrible for Terran is because siege tank range is a lot more vague and dubious diagonally than in a cardinal direction.
Flash's games as random are all counted towards the race he played in them, while "Race chosen" (where Random is an option) was also recorded but hasn't been used. A lot of this was much harder to do because Flash played random that one season.
I saw chat of big stream watching blizzcon and they all laughed how no starcraft mentioned at all. But when you realize that this new "blizzard" ruins every IP they touch ,the joke is on those laughing that love their warcrafts and diablos . We have a perfect game in Sc Bw and we Dont Want Blizzard to touch it and ruin it forever.
Great video
Saviour - he whose name can’t be mentioned.
This was great! xD
CJ sAviOr still one of my favorite players, even despite the match fixing scandal. Sad thing that that happened. Great video thanks for posting.
Statistics are pretty dope.
Very interesting
I wish I could play this game
5:15 Ten percentage points better :)
If i were you, i would be careful refencing some of the points from this analysis. This is a nice descriptive summary of the data, but.... it doesnt seem to include the correlation (if any). So how does the win rate changes for Protoss against Terran given the spawn location? The given word is the key
Yerim2 was the guy who qualified asl but give up. I think test in university was a reason.
Artosis saying he was right all along 🤣
I would LOVE to see this for SC2 statistics, PLEASE do a video on it it happens!!!!
3:30 Terran needs to be able to turtle and in the 2 spawn maps that is nearly impossible against protoss
i think flash is one of the best gamers of all time
Need those numbers for SC2
What is Terran win rate when you take out yhe greatest gamer of all time?
This is data quality I wish I had at work. And even better to have it in SC2
The Perfect Game
Can tastosis now stop in casts repeatedly saying how "if only there is zvz then jaedong has a chance to win" and "oh no soulkey facing a zvz so probably will fall out" . Jaedong literally is among the worst zvz-ers in asl and soulkey is literally 3rd best .
Well jedong had 73% winrate in kespa era. So people who watched that era may have that bias.
@@kya6816 now he has 33% so it may be time to stop thinking just from that bias .
If you remove Flash, terran doesn't do very well at al
The pure matchup stats were done without the top player per race, so FlaSh, Rain and EffOrt were already taken out.
Stats with FlaSh in them would look totally different.
Tell me you watch artosis without telling me you watch artosis
Tell me you watch artosis without telling me you watch artosis
@@jeff2209anything wrong with watching Artosis casts?
@@havior6617the first set was with all; the second set 0:37 had those players removed
