Please consider doing a Studying from Home series or video for all of us students struggling through social distancing. You've always been my #1 source for productivity tips :)
One downside of using spotify for it's work/study/focus playlists is that spotify will start to think ambient is your favorite genre of music, and include it in your daily mixes. So when you're driving at night, it will try to play music that puts you to sleep. So far, haven't had that problem with Pandora.
I remember a time I had a "mobile office". When I drove my husband to dialysis 3 days a week, I took 2 TV trays, my laptop and scanner with me. (My tip: buckle your equipment into a seat belt in the car -- less chance of damage that way). I only had about 31/2 hours to work, but it sure helped. I have become more attached to my cell phone lately -- yes, i still have a land line at home -- "if it ain't broke on't fix it". My cell phone is my primary number now due to this virus. Thanks as always for your wonderful videos. I highly respect you and your colleagues for having this talent.
The first thing i did when I moved into a new apartment was setting up my working-desk. The environment in where i m working, definitely affects my productivity. Thanks for the great advice!
Oh, man I've not done any work since this lockdown. But I've cleaned my kitchen so many times and done a lot of cooking. All the household stuff. I seem to be programmed to do home chores when home and can't focus on my work at all. To make things worse my family is trapped on the far side of an airport, no-one is even here to disturb me.
Great points all round. Separation and Isolation was one that stuck out as it's incredibly true in the role it plays in our psychology, but also having the need for a space that's free of distraction is critical.
Having a seperate space for studying and/or work is really helpful. I study outside the house now, under the mango tree. there's a table around it so I can focus on my work. It's not really noisy because I live on the countryside. When I study in my room, I tend to get distracte and watch youtube whole day.
Thomas, took me years to set up my perfect office -- two, in fact -- the living room and the dinning room, L-shaped, and I self-installed a 1/4" plexiglass wall and door over the pass-through doorway between the old living room and front foyer to make the office more private. This plexiglass wall also separates office/work sounds from living sounds in the rest of the house. Also, just set up three monitors, which makes me very efficient.
WOW. Your progression as a person in all aspects is so amazing to see....Thank you Thomas Frank!! You've really inspired me to be the best person I can possibly be...with strategies, techniques, and etc. Much love will be sharing as much as I can :)
Usually, I don't watch videos with such great vocals for voiceovers (Yes, I keep hearing these soothing voices all day long)... So I joined this video with my eyes at 2:04 and this amused me that how accurate that was!
Hi man, I just wanted to make a pause on my day here and doing some research to improve my work from home, I've been working from home and physical office like around 2 years now, but by the rest of this year and the next one I'm going to move and start a new home office set up and routine, and this has been the most helpful and efficient video I had seen so far to give me some guidance, thanks man!
Just seeing this video today, I can attest to the fact this has been a game changer. I've always struggled with focus and staying on task and wfh really crushed that for me and effected my performance in work (I do dev work). I worked in my living room which is my play space and where my desktop lives. The mixing of the two was so vague and really started clouding my mind. Even the lack of routine of the whole commute disrupted me immensely since I would need to find a new substitute for the sense of stability. Generously last month, my mother who lives a 15-20min drive from me, has a great spare room which she has let me build into an office. I decorated it with a calm palette, got some nice plants, a crank standing desk and a great productivity monitor. I treat going there like a normal commute. I also get to spend more time with her when she isn't working which is nice after she lived out of country for 10 years. Everything was about the psychology of the space in particular keeping it minimalistic + the stuff mentioned in this video.
THANK YOU for this new series. Really. I'm going through my 1st year in college, and this 2nd semester just got a hell of a lot harder now that my motivation is dying from being at home.
The timing of this video is great. I had just made a plan to fix my workspace and it just so happened I saw the notification. Here’s to killing bad habits!
Awesome advice! And you included all our favorite UA-camrs. I'd be interested to know what you're take on setting up a group work space would be because living in a household with 3 people working in a home office is a zoo of cables and a looming fear of an exploding surge protector..
Getting a laptop mount and wireless keyboard was a such small thing but made a MAJOR difference in my productivity. I feel more alert now that my screen is eye level and I sit up straighter.
Wow! You used not only great content as usual but also shots of some of my favorite youtubers! I enjoyed a lot watching! Keep it up! Big hug from a Spanish dancer living in India! 🌟
I like how he chills around while listen to Underoath, A few months ago I've went to your Spotify playlist and you have such a great taste, well done man. Another Inspiring video which really makes me want to start up a motivational vlog like you do. Especially since I am studying in college so most of your older stuff really help keeping up with life.. =Well done to all of you You-tubers that blast knowledge instead of garbage, keep it !
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS! The is the vid I've been looking for. Since the COVID-19 outbreak (and thank goodness I've tested negative for the virus), I'm now a remote employee employed by the same company, but in the comfort of my home (love working in my robe and jammies lol. Plus, it takes me 2 hours to drive to/from work and I'm personally tired of paying too much for gas alone, so I'm personally happy to be a remote employee. I used to model, but due to the mini-stroke I've endured, I can't model anymore, but that's okay. When one door closes, another one opens). I've setup a workspace in my bedroom for both work & play. In addition, I've setup a workspace in my living room for entertainment purposes, and I owe it all to you. Take excellent, and please stay safe (I know the stay-at-home order is very tiring, but by staying indoors, you're saving a lot of lives). YOU ROCK!
I personally feel that MOMENTUM IS KEY to a working from home routine. Transitioning into working from home is hard......like, mentally painful. But getting into a daily habit of it by just spending that initial time getting it established will generally make things flow a lot easier in the long run. (I've been really enjoying your podcasts lately Tom on my morning walks - I think this was something that was mentioned in the working from home episode but i thought I would just share my thoughts) c: Stay Safe Everyone! Keep up the good work!
7:33 also the difference between on- and over-ear is important to note. Budget headphones are very often on ear models, and you should avoid them if you're looking for a more "isolating" experience. I have been daily driving the ath mx50's for years now and I wouldn't recommend them sound-canceling-wise
Recently just accepted a SDR/BDR remote working position and I’m researching different home office set ups and techniques for working from home! Can’t wait to give these all a try
UPDATE: the biggest challenge that I've faced is separation & isolation. My workspace is also my sleeping space, workout space, reading space, video game space, and so on. So it's strange, watching my work performance suffer when previously I've never lacked in performance, but this time it's different. I came back to the video to gather more ideas on how to combat this. I'm going to be working remotely moving forward throughout my professional career. I'm legally blind, so driving around isn't an option for me. Also, I don't want to live in a large city, primarily because that's just too distracting for me (I used to live in Las Vegas, so I definitely know the busy city life). I think I'm going to be changing some things up. Getting some better gear, getting some better lighting, and sprucing up my digital workspace more.
Skillshare has been a lifesaver for me. Anytime I'm lacking in ideas on how to tackle a problem, I'll watch a skillshare series (or even just a couple of quick videos specific to the problem) and usually I"m able to solve the issue relatively quickly.
I love working from home. I've been working from home for a couple of years and I'm so much more productive, but it took me a while to figure out how to set up my workspace!
These things have been game changing in my daily routine from home. With all of this extra time inside, it's been a great way to focus on my business and level up my workspace. Will definitely be doing the Ambient Noise for my next work sesh-- thanks Thomas!
Just in case you do not have a noise cancellation headphones like me. You can get a safety ear protection for 10$ and put an earphones inside it. You are welcome :)
I love this vid... this is much more casual which is what we all want to see. It includes serious points with funny scenes... This is a big improvement.
Great video as always, Tom! Been using the analogic habit tracker for the past 2 months now and it's absolutely awesome. What I love the most about it is that the limited physical space doesn't let me add a bunch of random habits, so I have to prioritize and stick to my most important goals. Definitely recommend giving it and Thomas' course a try!
Yayy I've been waiting for weeks for this video! I knew it would be awesome for you to work from home. Seeing some of my other admired UA-camrs just made it a whole lot more enjoyable. Loved the video!! Oh my God lamas are back!!!!!!!!! Yesss
Thank you for your really cool videos. I like the way you manage to condense important information. One thing we learned: We adopted the idea of having the "on air sign". Now my children (who have to learn at home simultaneously) use our "blue cup". They put it on the table. (Where I can see it.) Then I know that they have a question. I stop my work - when I can and help. The are using the same method to avoid interrupting each other. Looking forward for new videos from you. Greetings from Hannover in Germany.
Woow, great productivity tips, and the way how everything is mixed in terms of film-making it's outstanding. One thing people, don't do all of them at once, pick one, and master it.
The interesting part is, that despite this being the superior way of working and that the world for the first time is experimenting on this. After the pandemic is over everyone will go back to their offices and this way of working will not be adopted massivelly until 20 more years have passed.
For a person like me who has hearing issues, and by doctor's instruction, shouldn't use headphones or earbuds, I tend to use speakers and put up some white noise or any other ambient sound. It really helps me focus on my work, and it really helps me relax whenever I'm done.
Hi Mr Frank...I am a 17 yo girl and I've been home for the past 3 weeks and I've done nothing and I dont understand how I can finish a whole research project in a single night but I cant in 3 weeks any help?
Really enjoying the higher frequency of Anna appearing in your videos :D Great tips. I've been profoundly unproductive over the last 2 weeks, and I really need to take the concept of workspace isolation to heart.
I can work productively in a cluttered and noisy environment. I can selectively mute certain noise at will thanks to growing up with parents constantly yelling at each other at the top of their lungs.
I liked this video Thomas - I work from home and have a video on how to do that effectively - but I love the tips on how to set up a workspace! Love it.
This would all be great if my family would, you know, actually pay attention to my schedule and stop interrupting me when they know full well I'm working. Without my noise-cancelling headphones I'd get literally nothing done. I use Skullcandy Venue headphones, and I love them.
Pausing my productivity day to write that comment :) Thomas, It was important for me to say that your videos are AMAZING! The video quality is 10/10 - 1440p HD + 4K is a blast. Every here and then you are making a joke or something funny that really helps stay in focus, which is fantastic! The footage examples are accurate and super motivating to action as well. I love the way you talk and represent such sophisticated and smart ideas. You are one of a kind, Thank you for sharing your knowledge and hard-worn skills.
I know this video is 2 years old but I have the Q20 headphones you showed here and can confirm a) they are a really good price and b) they’re really really good!
Top notch as usual. I'm actually gonna release a video where I talk about the positive things about the whole Corona situation, (like benefits with working from home). Coming up later this week, stay tuned
0:27 I strongly disapprove of those slippers. Loved seeing a bunch of my favourite content creators in this video, especially since a lot of them are massively underrated (cough cough Nathaniel Drew deserves way more recognition than he gets cough cough)
Thanks for sharing this video :) I have created a workplace that simply motivates me to sit and work there. No distractions around, clean table and comfortable chair. That works fine for me. Also I found very cozy to use some ligh strips to decorate a table. It helps to create an atmosphere Of course I would prefer to have a dedicated room for my work/study.
I have, i got a scolarship with them, and the classes are short and you can choose the "episode". But I recommend you make a list of what you want to learn and make a list of the classes, because I regret not having taken more courses, just out of laziness. But is really cool
Its Really good Watching this video when i have recently/already put up my work space bcz of this lockdown thingy...I am not some hotshot freelancer or rich kid(Don't even have my own room 4 that purpose)...i manage what i have..So I am Currently pulling all-nighters to have my work done in the dinning table by rearranging everything according to me and sleeping in the daylight..Its been fun of a productive nights for these *Nights*...(Also i am watching this video now so i doubt how much productive i really am...!)
Thanks for good guidance video. I have a family business providing legal services; my boss is both myself and my father, who is also my biz mentor. So, even though we have dedicated office room at home, we always are bothering one another because of difference in our work style and habit (and not to mention work tasks that creep into our professional tasks). Not to mention, since he is old-school, he believes headphones = uttery rude work practice. We don't have a big enough home for me to dedicate another room, and yet I won't want to work in my bed or my dining table. Although beggars can't be choosers, this is becoming an issue. I'm enjoying your videos to find inspiration on how to change myself, my family workflow and hopefully find a way to maintain peace.
I think we have the same 2 monitors! Dell 2417DG, I have two of them and I am finishing my fourth semester at home, which, with two monitors as opposed to my school-provided laptop is honestly a game-changer, literally! It also makes gaming quite visually stunning and its awesome having 165hz available on both!
You just plugged so many dope UA-camrs!!! Dude... Nathaniel Drew though?!... I can't believe how you continue to push your creative boundaries. And collaborations are exciting for us. Seeing our favourite worlds colliding is a special kind of excitement you can't find elsewhere

The interesting part is, that despite this being the superior way of working and that the world for the first time is experimenting on this. After the pandemic is over everyone will go back to their offices and this way of working will not be adopted massivelly until 20 more years have passed.
no way! you're on skillshare? I'll totally check it out... or check in your classes, that's so rad! merci beaucoup!
When he said steam, orgin, and epic. That hit way to close.
The playlist is the best I've ever listened to for study! So easy to snap straight into working mode! Thanks Thomas
Tom, you featured so many of my fave creators in the b-rolls, that made me smile so much 😭😭😭 ❤
I was freaking out!
😳😳 wow 😳😳 superbly produced video. Goals right there.
5:12 I too, have to call the Jedi Council at 4pm :)
Yeah, I particularly wanna know why they cast out a Jedi for fighting in the mandolorian wars
For a person like me who has hearing issues, and by doctor's instruction, shouldn't use headphones or earbuds, I tend to use speakers and put up some white noise or any other ambient sound. It really helps me focus on my work, and it really helps me relax whenever I'm done.
Android 10 has Focus Mode that you can customize to only allow the apps you need during work! It's massively helpful for me.
Abe Kurth That’s awesome. I used to use an extension Wastenotime but when I last checked it with a new old computer it wasn’t available:(
This turned out so well! Thanks Thomas!
Hi Mr Frank...I am a 17 yo girl and I've been home for the past 3 weeks and I've done nothing and I dont understand how I can finish a whole research project in a single night but I cant in 3 weeks any help?
Really enjoying the higher frequency of Anna appearing in your videos :D
Great tips. I've been profoundly unproductive over the last 2 weeks, and I really need to take the concept of workspace isolation to heart.
Someone needs to make a breakdown video of this and talk about all the cameos.
Why dont you do it?
Great video! It is so cool seeing your content evolve over time. This video is getting me excited to set up my space for better productivity. :)
Pausing my productivity day to write that comment :)
Thomas, It was important for me to say that your videos are AMAZING!
You are one of a kind,
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and hard-worn skills.
I like how the video started with other self improvement channels working from home👌
I agree! It was such an inspiring start!
I know this video is 2 years old but I have the Q20 headphones you showed here and can confirm a) they are a really good price and b) they’re really really good!
this quickly turned into tom's headphones review
Ahaha was thinking the same thing!
Bruh your videos always have SO MUCH content and products infos in 'em! Good job, man! Im giving this one a like 😁
Top notch as usual. I'm actually gonna release a video where I talk about the positive things about the whole Corona situation, (like benefits with working from home). Coming up later this week, stay tuned
Quality of video is 🔥🔥🔥 I'm honestly glad to see how content is improving every time through several years.
1% rule in action!
0:27 I strongly disapprove of those slippers.
Loved seeing a bunch of my favourite content creators in this video, especially since a lot of them are massively underrated (cough cough Nathaniel Drew deserves way more recognition than he gets cough cough)
Thanks for sharing this video :)
I have created a workplace that simply motivates me to sit and work there. No distractions around, clean table and comfortable chair. That works fine for me. Also I found very cozy to use some ligh strips to decorate a table. It helps to create an atmosphere
Of course I would prefer to have a dedicated room for my work/study.
Has anyone taken his Skillshare class? I'm curious!
I have, i got a scolarship with them, and the classes are short and you can choose the "episode". But I recommend you make a list of what you want to learn and make a list of the classes, because I regret not having taken more courses, just out of laziness. But is really cool
@@RawWrtochi19 oh is scholarship when they help you pay for your skill share account?? That would be AMAZING. Was it hard to apply for?
Its Really good Watching this video when i have recently/already put up my work space bcz of this lockdown thingy...I am not some hotshot freelancer or rich kid(Don't even have my own room 4 that purpose)...i manage what i have..So I am Currently pulling all-nighters to have my work done in the dinning table by rearranging everything according to me and sleeping in the daylight..Its been fun of a productive nights for these *Nights*...(Also i am watching this video now so i doubt how much productive i really am...!)
10:34 well who was it Tom. Who’s your bias 😂
5:42 OMG it's hand like houses!!!
The elaborate set-up for the extra laptop... just for Spotify
I think this might be one of my favorite videos of yours! It is just so clean
The BTS bias quiz caught me off guard. Sjahha
You just plugged so many dope UA-camrs!!! Dude... Nathaniel Drew though?!...
I can't believe how you continue to push your creative boundaries. And collaborations are exciting for us. Seeing our favourite worlds colliding is a special kind of excitement you can't find elsewhere
