in 2:19 you mentioned the tilting motion of the internal box... that tilting motion is for people that don't have a 100% leveled tank and need to adjust the leveling on the box to get even water flow.using a rubber gasket, rubber Washer or a drop of acrylic solvent cement once you have it set to the perfect level. in 3:07 you showed us the Foam insert for the "back Box" and the noise reduction tube... I agree with you about NOT using the tube but I have the foam insert on to pick up any "Large Trash" and instead of cleaning my sump's filter once a week, I clean out that foam every night about 10 minutes after feeding the fish and and before the filters turn back on. in 5:50 you mentioned that you had trouble with priming the U-Tube for the back box... You should be able to remove at least 75% of the air from the tube with the airline tubing. what I do to get it 100% is get it going with the airline tubing in the U-Tube and once the water starts flowing it will push the air bubble to the opening of the airline tube where you will be able to suck it out OR just stick the overflow boxes unto your tank sideways until the two boxes "AND the U-Tube are full" , straiten them out and lift them out of the water and the back box, the internal box and the tube will be filled and the tube WILL be primed 100% ;) The only problems I've had with those types of boxes are simple fixed problems. The first is that the back boxes on most of them don't give you enough space to place two U-Tubes into it and the second problem would be that the internal box's baffle is not open all the way up to the top to empty the tank if you get too much water flowing into the tank all at once. but in case of Emergency I don't have to worry because I had enough problems with those boxes that I (NOW) have two overflow boxes in every tank so that I never have to worry about the tubes getting clogged
They sell 60$ sensors that’ll shut off your pump when the syphon breaks and display starts to flow. Good thing to have as well, 2 overflow idea is also cool
I also fitted a bleed valve with a tap in the top of ubend if you send the bleed tube into the exiting water on outside of overflow box it pulls the air out perminently without using an aqualifter
I agree only one wing nut come on man: but..... overall that joint looks nice and solid I agree again. Thanks for sharing I can’t wait to hear the full review.
you can easily remove air in the pipe by lowering water level and then pouring a lot of water all at once into one section. This forces a large rush of water thru the pipe and flushes out the air. Much easier than sucking out air from a tube.
JDO Fishtank I discovered a better method. Bought two rubber plugs from Lowes for $2. fill tube up full and plug up ends under water so no bubbles present at all. Then deploy tube and remove plugs. Easy! if space is tight to retrieve plug, simply drill a hole in it or screw in a small screw and tie it to a string so it can be pulled out.
I have a 1800 I used for a few months, double tube style of course. My complaint is that no matter what I did I could NEVER keep air from building up in the siphon tubes. ( the water flow into the intake box causing at least some bubbles, adjusting that box did not help at all) After a some months of using it I determined there is no way I can TRUST it not to break siphon on me, a potential to cause a disaster! So I removed it and reconfigured my whole aquarium set up.
Brads Tropics The air comes in because of the falling water from the overflow slots that create micro bubbles that eventually aggregate and build up. What I did was I removed the overflow black box, put a sponge at the end of the siphon tube (to prevent fish from getting in) and put a plastic tall bottle into the external compartment that was cut to overflow at the right water level. Then the siphon goes direct to this bottle which then overflows at the right height. No more bubbles. Basically I moved the overflow action to the external side where bubbles don’t matter.
Mikesb69 - true but hard to know how much stronger is needed. I suppose you can get an adjustable flow rate pump but they are costlier. I like my solution better as it removes stuff from the tank.
It won't work testing it like that it needs the pressure of the tank volume and works on how much return flow from sump I have this and a don't have thd air lock in u pipe
What is this for? I am a newbie wanting to start and hide a filter. Its just a 10 gallon tank in corner of kitchen and i want o do a saltwater reef. I like things tidy. I dont want things hanging out. I am painting back black and thought of buying a hagger I thik, it called its submersible and has a spray bar and doubles as a powerhead, so (tidy) would blend in with black background.. I thought of buying a used one with a stand and could put a canister. I saw some clear pipes. Can I use clear pipes and tubing. Just anyway to keep things tidy. I don't know if I need a skimmer, i heard someone say that nanos relied on water changes so not necessary. I also heard of a HOB refugium. I have a 2inch space behind the 10 gallon thats painted black. Should I get a refugium, or maybe later down the road since I am such a newbie, and i think he had a skimmer in a refugium, so maybe I would have to change water once a week. Thanks for any advise
Karen Nation This is an overflow system for a sump. I’m no saltwater expert at all as I’ve never kept saltwater fish. But from everything I know a 10 gallon is too small for saltwater. And if you’re new to the aquarium hobby you may want to start with freshwater
I need your help, I have a 30 gallon setup (26 gallon main tank and 7 gallon sump) I have a 370GPH return.... Can you let me know if I should get the PF-300 or the PF-800? Really appreciate the help as i am thoroughly confused
OMG do not drill the U pipe .......................... read the instructions, you will void the warranty, just place air line tube up the pipe and suck.
I think you have the screw backwards, don't you? I doubt the head of the screw is supposed to be against the aquarium. Harder to adjust that way. Also, if it was me, I'd definitely use that sponge. The more surface area for beneficial bacteria the better, right? Having said all that, I'm not even really sure what an overflow box is, so take everything I said with a grain of salt.

@@Boogerdick69do you have a link to the sensor ? If so can you post it here..
Thanks man seriously that was some good info
There is an air bubble because your aerated water from the sink is feeding it bubbles 🤦🏻♂️
Your silencer is upside down, the clear acrylic tube is supposed to be up in the air, not down in the bulkhead.
I am using this PF 300, I usually just shake side to side up and down to get the air bubble out, it works great with my 75 gallon tank.
Does is fail or is it reliable
thinking of getting this one too. Do you have a standard 75 gal aquarium?
@@severin1136 ima build mine. I m using a pump of 6000l/h. I can't spend $350 on overflows😂😂😂
@@ritesha8050 🤣 lmao. Did a little more research on hang on back overflows and I am gonna try this on my 75 gal

I agree with oiling the nut to adjust the level. I got the 1000
Thanks
If shake the tube it will get rid of the air bubble no need to drill.
Do not put oil any where near plastic it will cause it to perish and go brittle use ptfe plastic safe lubricant.
GREAT review! Thank you, I completely understood everything you said!
PF 800 has two wing nuts !
looks good👌

You need a stronger flow pump to push the air bubbles through the tube.

Eric Lind can you post pictures somehow?
This was very helpful. Thank you!
Patrick Gornet no problem
never used one before looks neat
David's Fish Tanks Thanks
Once you have the black box adjusted to proper height, lay a thin bead of super glue on the top, similar to a bead of caulk.

So I have on of these overflows but do not have that piece of pipe to quite it down. What exactly is it? can I make one?
You could, or add a small piece of sponge
What’s the purpose of the acrylic pipes that are glued to the pvc? Mine broke off not sure how important they are
did u ever get an anwser

How did you silence this monster? It is loud!
Thanks for the video. Did you ever do the video with the tank and sump?
Yes
Looks like fun ahead can't wait...🐠🐠🤙🤙
Rob 93 Thanks
What’s the max flow rate it can handle
Cool I hope you show it when is your tank,, thanks for sharing
George Calderon Will do
Do i have to suck air all the time ? Anything that can prevent that issue?
Definitely looks 100 times better than a traditional overflow weir and gives you more room in the tank!
Yep
Good points. Thanks for this video super helpful.
I know im late but did you do this before you built your own?
@@yeayea2499 yes
Do you have a video on how you added the air line? Did you use silicone to attach it?
I originally used silicone but it didn't hold, now the airline is just pushed through the hole. Works.
JDO Fishtank thanks man!
Nice video!

Here is the solution for the air bubble instead of drilling the tube. ua-cam.com/video/vDRYrMfuGJo/v-deo.html

The bubble wouldn’t go away because the faucet was creating bubbles
Glue rubber drawer stops at each end . Don’t glue the overflow box to itself .
Your wing nut is on the wrong side. I did the same thing at first.

Would you recommend just making one of these on your own, rather than spend the money?
Jacob Keller You could, but you need to the geometry correct
By the time all is said and done, you could have just bought it for the price
The kitchen sink is causing the bubbles
I think they over price for this box
I got this box brand new for 35 bucks at my LFS
Cuanta agua desperdicias, que nefasto!
Put it in corner. Can’t be moved then by fish hitting it
Add airline tube first to suck up the air. Don't drill it. It ugly 😂
Ady Yanto Too late lol
JDO Fishtank hahahaha. Sorry late to comment 🤣
Cuba Auto Sales, LLC I tried all that, nothing worked
Won't buy this one.
