Thomas always gets a 👍 and as an aside I used this exact overflow and it's been holding up great for about 2 years now. My first time ever drilling a tank.
I used a marine sources sb2 hang on absolute pain I wish I would have drilled now it's full of sponges and vermitant snails can't be cleaned I have to run a venturi pump to remove the air from top twice a day
I think i am going to buy one of these overflow boxes. I just dont know what size i would need for a 75 gallon and dont know what size sump i would need for the same 75 just trying to plumb seems hard to do
I would suggest the medium size for a 75 gallon. This will allow you to get up to 800 GPH, which is more than enough. www.bulkreefsupply.com/eclipse-m-overflow-box-800-gph-eshopps.html For the sump, check out something like the trigger 26-30" size sumps. Before you buy, look at each filter chamber and make sure that the filtration equipment like your skimmer will fit.
I have an older tank that has already been cut. How would I go about find out what size hole is need? For the eclipse S. I bought the M model and it requires a larger hole than what I have.
I'm not very familiar with external overflows, but don't Herbie and Bean Animal require three drains? Are you saying people give up the emergency drain and run these setups in the small/medium two-drain sizes?
Herbie has the second drain as an emergency drain, so it's pretty safe. Bean animal is a Herbie plus 1 more emergency drain for the ultimate peace of mind.
could you please help ???? im looking for a overflow box but its for a shallow tank that's on the verge of being classed as a nano but not quite the issue is all the over flow boxes ive found for sale in the uk are just big and chunky i need something designed for medium to nano sized aquariums especially as its a shallow reef tank cheers
I did the bean animal on mine , but I am not able to make it silent . I cant raise the water level inside the overflow , when I adjust the gate valve the water level inside the box stays the same and water starts going through the secondary pipe which makes even more noise lol I am sure I did something wrong but can't figure it out ! maybe i should make my secondary pipe taller ?(Should the air hole be at the same hight as the emergency pipe ?
It sounds like you need to make the secondary drain taller. The secondary drain should have just a trickle of water going down it and will set the water height inside of the overflow box.
If you can't find it locally, you can always use a mail forwarding service to order from the BRS website. Details on that are at this link if you're interested: www.bulkreefsupply.com/international-shipping
Hand tight + 1/8 or 1/4 turn with a wrench should do the trick. Here is a video where Randy talks about properly installing a bulkhead if you're interested. ua-cam.com/video/w4GmHKsGwt8/v-deo.html
I’ll stay with my above tank onethat drill bit is pretty expensive. You can’t go on vacation the water will evaporate and the pump will burn out. To expensive
In that case, your glass cannot be drilled. There are hang on back overflow boxes that will work in those scenarios. www.bulkreefsupply.com/pumps-plumbing/overflows/external-hob-overflows.html
that drill press though!

Awesome!
Like for tip 5, I had added a piece of pipe, but I wasn’t sure that was ok, since it specifies 6” between the main and emergency drains
Thank you Thomas! ❤
Are they made of acrylic ?

Can you tell me what kind of hoses I should get too attached to the 1 inch drain fittings?
If you want to use flexible tubing, we would suggest installing a 1" slip x barb fitting on each drain bulkhead, then vinyl tubing attached to that.
i need this one
how can i find it?
You can find it right on our website here: www.bulkreefsupply.com/eclipse-m-overflow-box-800-gph-eshopps.html
I have an older tank that has already been cut. How would I go about find out what size hole is need? For the eclipse S. I bought the M model and it requires a larger hole than what I have.
The Eclipse S and M both use the same size transfer bulkhead, so the hole size will be the same for both size overflow boxes.
I'm not very familiar with external overflows, but don't Herbie and Bean Animal require three drains? Are you saying people give up the emergency drain and run these setups in the small/medium two-drain sizes?
Herbie requires 2, and Bean Animal requires 3, so it depends on which of the 3 models you choose from :)
Herbie has the second drain as an emergency drain, so it's pretty safe. Bean animal is a Herbie plus 1 more emergency drain for the ultimate peace of mind.
What diameter pipe do you need to run down from the bulkhead to the sump?
This overflow uses 1" bulkheads, so we would suggest 1" plumbing all the way from the bulkhead to your sump.
that is A LOT of money for some cheap plastic parts and a hole saw
