To the King of DIY.... You have great videos.. And in these great videos, you say that we can follow your lead and be inspired.. To try out “Your” ideas.. This guy did.. And he’s not claiming it was his design(even if slightly different than yours”.. He was inspired to “Create” something that wud be gud for his system.. He added a silencer.. He gave instructions.. And he made a video.. WoopDeDoo!! Stop the bellyaching and give props when and where it’s merited.. Job well done!!
This video came 6 years after Joey's first video and 1 year after a follow up to the original video. Though people may came up with the same ideas but this is pretty much a remake of Joey's updated design. Did he reference king of diy in this video? If not then he's plagerizing. Joey have every right to make his point heard.
For me I learned a lot of things from the king of diy, I recorded all my project creation, sump, tank and the overflow, and didn't claim any for me. At the end Joy is not the first one who created this design too. Search well and you will find other videos before joys video. So don't judge me please.
AnjuABCDE nonesense! The whole point of diy is to look for cheap ways to either improvise or improve on other products that would cost money. This is what “diy king” himself is all about. For him to turn around and chastise someone else for doing the same is ridiculous. Why is he feeling ripped off? Did he lose sponsors because of this video?
This method works well. Those who have growling problem, adjust your ball valve from long inlet pipet, the issue is that the amount of water pulling from pump not equivalent with drain water.
I just built this using your video. I did everything except the 3" cap for the silencer. Definitely going to get one! Little load, don't bother me..but does my wife when she is trying to sleep! But thank you!! Works great though!!
Video is very well put together. Love the list of parts which is easy to figure out. Love the methodical way you show the process. Other DIYers on UA-cam should take note. Complete job here.
Im making one myself with a few different modifications to fit my application. I also have a channel where I might touch on it but it won't be a "how to" video. I do love the design and im always about saving money when I can do it myself cheaper and give my animals the same benefits.
Hey man love the video. I have 20G tank , may I know what is the suggested size of Paip I should use ? Thanks Tank size is 60cm(length)x30cm(width)x40cm(height) Your reply is much appreciated
Hi. Could you please answer these questions? 1. Is it good idea to use this overflow system with Eheim 2329 canister filter? 2. If yes, what diameter of the PVC pipes needed for my paludarium tank 100cm wide, 47cm deep and 60cm hight. I am planning to have rock waterfall with water level 20-25 cm. Thank you.
Bravo..Very detailed video. I'm planning to start this project my tank is 120cm width and 54cm height. Can you please suggest what the length of the pipes should be.
Is this fail safe vs the hob eshopps overflow? Im scare if either this or the hob overflow loses siphon when there is a power outage that last hrs or even days
Hi I don’t know if you will still reply because this is so late but I’m trying to replicate this is my 30g which is obviously smaller that your tank. And I was wondering if the pipes lengths need to be any certain proportion to work? Or does it just have to be the same general shape and design of what you showed here? Thanks
Well this overflow work for a 150 gallon tank I'm going to use inch and a half pipe noticing that there's measurements I'm thinking it should work I'm just upgrading to inch and a half PVC or if anybody could point me in the right direction
How has the pvc overflow held up since you installed it. I was thinking of doing the same, but my biggest concern is losing syphon. Have you had any issues?
That silencer cap is very simple but clever, im mad at myself for not thinking of that... Put my overflow on the shelf cuz of to much gurgling noise from it. Now i might get rid of it! Im using this type of overflow ( ua-cam.com/video/vBzToBedQ68/v-deo.html&ab_channel=perchFIX ) but got the same weir as you do.
@@ReefAmorous Well crap. That's what I have. Do you think it will be a bid deal if I make yours exactly since I already bought everything or should I return it all and get 1.25"?
ReefAmorous wow its pricy, although I will order it. Is it strong enough for me not to need a wavemaker? My tank is 5ft long. 18 inches wide and 2ft high. Thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions pal. - tomo
If we don't want to buy or built over flow system. What will be the best method for sump filter ? Can we use 2 submarcible pump for that. 1 pump for sucking water and 1 pump for pumping water.?

is that because it covers the holes? does it rattle on top of the weir? I am setting up one right now, and I like the silencer idea :) I have also heard that if the weir gets noisy it may be because the sump pump is too strong, you can crank it down with a check valve. . .
Bro I need to make an aquarium with 100cm height x 120 length and 55 width ??? Can you please advice ! What is the size of this one ? Can I have your email please urgent
This design has a failure point. The 'T' must be ABOVE the level of the inlet tube bottom inside of the weir. Otherwise the weir sucks dry to the bottom of that tube and siphon is lost. I've been screwing with these overflows for a year now in a test tank. See the vids if you want. I've let it sit powered down for a whole month and it started right up when the pump was plugged in. Did a lot of flow rate testing too... and found that a 1" schedule 80 PVC overflow will max out at right around 550 gph.. tops. A sched 40 one tops out at under 500 gph. A 1.25" shed 80 one at about 650 to 675 gph
Oh please, can I watch some more pvc cement being applied??? Not sure I get that part, need to see it done about a 1000 more times..... waisted 10 minutes to see what, pvc cementing??? Let us see it primed, put into a tank, show it working... geesh what a waist of time

It's not needed with canister filter.
Hi sir. Will it automatically function eventho power electricity went down?
Yes, this is the main objective of this design

Great design. Really tried it but keeps losing the siphon after turning off the pump.
what if there is a power failure and then the electricity comes back on, can the water automatically go down
Is this fail safe vs the hob eshopps overflow? Im scare if either this or the hob overflow loses siphon when there is a power outage that last hrs or even days

Can I put corals if I use the DIY PVC overflow method in the fish tank?
Yes, why not, still my oldest tank used this method and I have lots of anemones there
Can't the sump overflow if the pump stops working ? Is a sump filter necessary for a fish only tank ?
I would have like to see it working. Nice video though!
Thank you

And I was wondering if the pipes lengths need to be any certain proportion to work? Or does it just have to be the same general shape and design of what you showed here? Thanks
Hi, the length of the pipes should be related to the diameter, so in your setup I recommend to try the 1/2 inch
what should be the height of inlet pipe if 1/2" pipe will be used.
I don't have such measurements, but I think 30cm is enough
Well this overflow work for a 150 gallon tank I'm going to use inch and a half pipe noticing that there's measurements I'm thinking it should work I'm just upgrading to inch and a half PVC or if anybody could point me in the right direction
I think it will work, but you need to test it
What is the benefit of the bottom hole in the white tube?
No holes in the bottom of the white tube! Do you mean in the top ?
Wow holy crap I've never seen someone use so much glue
Welp... one things for sure... those seams will NEVER leak!!!!
This was actually the first time I use the PVC glue😅
How has the pvc overflow held up since you installed it. I was thinking of doing the same, but my biggest concern is losing syphon. Have you had any issues?
No it's works perfectly, no losing for syphon unless the power outage remain for long time maybe a day or more

you need minimum 3/4 inch, and if 1 inch is better, thank height should be more than 23 inches then you can make the holes on 19 inches height

This overflow designed for what height of the tank ?
This one for 70cm height

Yes, check this link

If we don't want to buy or built over flow system. What will be the best method for sump filter ? Can we use 2 submarcible pump for that. 1 pump for sucking water and 1 pump for pumping water.?
2 pums will never work, because you never can sync the 2 pums to work together

is that because it covers the holes? does it rattle on top of the weir? I am setting up one right now, and I like the silencer idea :) I have also heard that if the weir gets noisy it may be because the sump pump is too strong, you can crank it down with a check valve. . .

A 1.25" shed 80 one at about 650 to 675 gph
So if the 'T' is higher it will eliminate the loud sound of the water falling into the weir??? The weir will actually fill to the top?
How could it be even possible with a higher flow rate with sch 80 over sch40? The sch 80 has a smaller diameter inside.
Background music is horrible bro
