    PSP Vintage Warmer 2. Used it in the mastering chain for all the tracks in the latest TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge videogame (i mixed and mastered), which was nominated for best audio in several big videogame awards. I still love it and use it in 99% of my masters.

      After over 10 years of using Vintage Warmer on my bus. I tried a major mix project without it. As soon as I put it back on. The mix just came together. In terms of Glue.... Vintage Warmer is the best plugin for me.

    14 years for me. It’s been on every mix since 2009 .. Great explanation of how it works!

    I've also been using PSP VIntageWarmer since the first version of it -- probably my first PSP plugin (and I have all their plugins) after their original MixPack (and maybe StereoPack). It's probably been on pretty much every project I've done in one context or another. For years it was a constant thing on my mix bus, specifically to simulate mixing to tape.

    I remember using it when it came out. It was like magic. So analog for real. No cliché.
    It had that warmth not in terms of mid-bassy frequency response, but like a Scott receiver from the 70s and 80s with good paper cone speakers kind of warm, big and cohesive sound.
    No other plugin sounds like it. This modern version 2 is even better. It just has THAT sound that is hard to put into words but when you hear it, you know that's exactly what you were looking for. 🥴

    Got the Vintage Warmer when it came out. It still sits on my mix bus for every mix session in multimode with FAT on - ahead of the final limiter, but it probably does most of the limiting to be honest. The final limiter just does maybe 1 or 2 dB gain reduction and all the usual checks and balances. I'd be lost without it.

    I really just don't care for modern plugins. Every time I try new stuff, I don't like it and feel like I'm wasting time. The oldies were so good I have never felt something was missing. I do feel the PSP is missing cos I don't own it but did use it many moons ago and it is so nice. Also wish I had some McDSP too.
    I feel like video after video is which limiter, which clipper and Fabfilter this, or that.
    I literally never chop more than 0.5-1db off with a limiter. I use it to chop any wild peaks down and that is it, I never go driving for volume but feel like half the music tech videos now are all about which limiter can be pushed most.
    This was nice to see a fantastic oldie getting a look in.
    Another great set is Waves Renaisance. The EQ has the best Q curve. The R Comp is amazing. There are so many oldies that are killer and even better the interfaces don't take up 60% of your screen real estate.

    Still louder when you tried level matched. is it that hard to level my by hear. its easy to feel when something is louder, even with RMS higher, peak reduced, saturation, compression.. anyway good stuff. take care

      He already said he knows it sounds good which is why he didn't bother to level match by perceived loudness. I'll take his word for it considering he's been using it for 20 years!

    In my opinion this is one of the examples in which digital is superior to analog. Thanks Dom. Its a pity PSP does not have a subscription mode. Native Apple.

    Level matching is not the panacea so many suggest it is. Sure, it’s helpful sometimes, but I rarely toggle bypass when mastering so it doesn’t matter to me. I know what I’m hoping to hear so compensating is both part of the process and always happening in my head. Auto compensation is rarely correct and actually ends up bugging me more than no compensation.

    • @DomSigalas
      @DomSigalas  2 роки тому +1

      I 100% agree! Indeed, when I first try out a plug-in I do compensate to see what actually happens and for Quality Control. However, I also try to stress this enough: if you know what you’re doing you don’t need to level match. Part of your job is to know your tools !

    • @artysanmobile
      @artysanmobile 2 роки тому

      @@DomSigalas As for matching in mastering, the processes I’m using are SUPPOSED to change the ‘volume’, so comparative levels are meaningless.

    Analog gear has true grit and drive, digital gear sounds neutered and limp. Vintage warmer is a good digital plug-in, but analog is a different level of quality across the board.
